Author Takiya Arevalo’s newly released “Hello Beautiful, Your Pain Was Not in Vain” is a powerful chronicle of how finding God changed one woman’s life

News Image

“Hello Beautiful, Your Pain Was Not in Vain”: a poignant personal tale. “Hello Beautiful, Your Pain Was Not in Vain” is the creation of published author, Takiya Arevalo, a loving wife and mother to three who works as a life and success coach.

At twenty-five years old, Takiya received a mandate by God that would forever change her life. All her life, she walked around in brokenness and pity. She was a victim to her circumstance until she realized that she was more than a conqueror. Takiya realized that she could either be pitiful or powerful. So full faith, she began to heal a part of her that was the most painful area of her childhood. God turned her tragedy into triumph, her mourning into joy. He wiped away her tears and said, “Hello, beautiful. Your pain is not in vain.” Tempted to give in to the enemy, she was riddled with shame until her Father showed up and reminded her that He did not call her to a life of condemnation.

Takiya shares, “God has called you to be powerful. He did not call you to a life of pity. It is time you stop speaking the lies of the enemy and start speaking what God says about you: He says you are beautiful. If you will change your mind, God will change your life.”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Takiya Arevalo’s new book is an honest account of one woman’s experience recovering through faith.

Pairing spiritual ponderances with personal stories, Arevalo welcomes readers to trust in their spirit and renew their faith.

Author Dick Crosby’s newly released “Some Things I Never Learned in Bible College” is an encouraging resource for those entering the vocation of being a pastor

News Image

“Some Things I Never Learned in Bible College”: an encouraging offering to future pastors. “Some Things I Never Learned in Bible College” is the creation of published author, Dick Crosby, a loving husband of fifty-five years to Carol, proud father of four daughters, encouraging grandfather to six grandchildren, and dedicated pastor holding a PhD in Bible and Christian education.

Crosby shares, “This book explores several different aspects of a pastor’s ministry and life. What is written here is the result of nearly fifty years of experience and observations. It is my hope that this will help many pastors who are relatively new to their mission. I wished I had known some of these matters when I first entered the ministry. Being a pastor is a difficult challenge of which I hope to ease in some small way.

The chapters in this book are topical in nature with some connecting to others but often many exploring entirely different subjects. Pastors are leaders, and some are quite opinionated. I would suspect that many pastors will be agreeable with some chapters and opposed to others. That’s okay. I want to suggest ideas and challenge other concepts. Use what you can, and may some of these ideas promote and advance the cause of Christ.”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Dick Crosby’s new book is a powerful offering to the next generation of dedicated pastors.

Pairing real-life experience with years of training and education, Crosby hopes to inspire those who have heard the call and are driven to take up the mantle of preaching the word of the Lord.

Gallaudet University Awarded $2 Million USAID Grant to Advance Education and Employment Opportunities for Deaf Children and Youth in Nigeria

We look forward to building on these relationships, and to collaborating with deaf, hard of hearing, and deafblind leaders and community members in Nigeria to foster awareness, advocacy, education, and employment.

Gallaudet University has been awarded a three-year, $2.05 million grant from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to support initiatives to advance education, employment, and life opportunities toward the empowerment of deaf, hard of hearing, and deafblind children and youth in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

With this grant, Gallaudet University – along with its partners, the Nigerian National Association of the Deaf (NNAD) and Wesley University, Ondo – are launching the Deaf-E³ project.

This project was inspired by Dr. Isaac O. Agboola, a beloved Gallaudet alumnus, faculty member, and dean who passed away in 2017. Dr. Agboola had a long-held dream of self-determination for the Nigerian deaf community. According to Dr. Khadijat K. Rashid, Interim Dean of the Faculty at Gallaudet, “Dr. Agboola wanted to bring Gallaudet home to Nigeria, and Deaf-E³ fulfills that wish.”

Deaf-E³ project activities include:

  • Capacity building: NNAD and its stakeholders. Discovering Deaf Worlds, a U.S-based international deaf advocacy organization, and NNAD will conduct an initial needs assessment and stakeholder survey to identify NNAD’s organizational capacity priorities and design training modules to enhance the advocacy, leadership, and organizational capacities of NNAD and its stakeholders.
  • Training educational professionals on multimodal/multilingual pedagogical approaches to education. This research-based activity will identify best practices and identify effective training methodologies and assessments, with the goal of producing a pedagogically deaf-centric, barrier-free, and multimodal/multilingual educational programming for deaf children. The project will produce two manuals on multimodal/multilingual approaches that can be used by educational professionals nationwide.
  • Promoting best practices related to general and educational interpreting within a Nigerian context. A working group of deaf leaders and Nigerian Sign Language (NSL) interpreters will create and disseminate guidelines to effective communication by enabling deaf consumers and NSL interpreters to work more collaboratively.
  • Collaborate with USAID and its partners to increase capacity to engage with deaf, hard of hearing, and deafblind stakeholders nationwide.

Roberta J. “Bobbi” Cordano, President of Gallaudet University, said, “Gallaudet is deeply grateful to USAID for this investment in Deaf E³. This funding will have an incredible impact as Gallaudet, the Nigerian National Association of the Deaf (NNAD), and Wesley University, Ondo collaborate on education and employment initiatives that will empower deaf, hard of hearing, and deafblind people in Nigeria.”

Dr. Rashid said, “Gallaudet has welcomed students from Nigeria for many years. In fact, there are more Gallaudet alumni from Nigeria than from any other country outside the United States and Canada. We look forward to building on these relationships, and to collaborating with deaf, hard of hearing, and deafblind leaders and community members in Nigeria to foster awareness, advocacy, education, and employment. This will positively impact the standard of living for deaf people in Nigeria for many years to come.”

Chidi Olujie, president of the Nigerian National Association of the Deaf, said, “I extend my great appreciation to everyone who worked on this project. We would not have come this far without our shared commitment to creating a conducive learning environment for deaf Nigerians and their families. We are very grateful to USAID for finding us worthy of being beneficiaries of this grant. We expect this project to have a long-term, positive impact on the Nigerian deaf community’s education, empowerment, and employment.”

Professor Sunday Ndubueze Ukachukwu, Vice Chancellor of Wesley University, said, “Coming this far is confirmation that there is strength in unity of purpose. While congratulating all the persons, organizations, and groups who worked assiduously to bring GAIN this far, our deep appreciation goes to USAID for believing in the vision. Indeed the Gallaudet University legacy of subduing barriers, limitations, building hope and empowerment of the deaf through education, is coming to Nigeria, signalling new hope for the deaf in the country and beyond.”

This project is RFA #72062021RFA00001. The U.S. Agency for International Development administers the U.S. foreign assistance program providing economic and humanitarian assistance in more than 80 countries worldwide.

For more information please visit Gallaudet in Africa-Nigeria and Facebook.

Gallaudet University, federally chartered in 1864, is a bilingual, diverse, multicultural institution of higher education that ensures the intellectual and professional advancement of deaf, hard of hearing and deafblind individuals through American Sign Language and English. The university enrolls over 1,600 students in more than 40 undergraduate majors, master’s and doctoral programs. It also conducts research in many fields, including education, linguistics, psychology, educational neuroscience, deaf history and culture, and Black deaf history and culture.

News Image

“Angel Tots: The Coronavirus!”: a sweet children’s tale with an important message. “Angel Tots: The Coronavirus!” is the creation of published author Brie Grant, a retired airline professional and graduate of Georgia Southern University.

Grant shares, “We love our little angel children! But are we always aware of some of the little things they go through on a daily basis? Children are really little versions of big people. They are full of wonder, emotions, and sometimes fears. And even though we do our best to nurture those range of feelings, we just may sometimes miss or even ignore them. But our heavenly Father misses nothing in any us of, including our beloved little ones. He knows every facet of their being. After all, He created them! When He said He gives angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways (Psalms 91:11), He includes the children! So don’t worry! God has dispatched four little Angel Tots to the rescue! In this book, these little angels have a special assignment. Timmy and Jimmy are needing help in understanding a very real threat to our society today—the coronavirus.”

Center for Disaster Philanthropy Board Elected Kenneth Jones as New Chair

Center for Disaster Philanthropy welcomes new board chair and chair emeritus

“I am honored and humbled to lead CDP as the new chair following Lori Bertman’s impact on the organization. The influence of CDP is critical at this juncture as we partner with nonprofits, corporations and foundations to focus on humanitarian and natural disasters in proactive and sustainable ways.”

The Center for Disaster Philanthropy (CDP) board of directors welcomed Kenneth M. Jones II, Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, as its new board chair, succeeding Lori Bertman, chief executive of the Irene W. and C.B. Pennington Foundation.

“As CDP enters its next decade of growth, I couldn’t be more pleased and confident in Ken’s leadership and vision. With his deep experience in philanthropy and understanding of its relationship to disasters and humanitarian crises, CDP will continue to thrive, evolve and be of special service across the globe under Ken’s leadership,” said Bertman. “CDP exists because good people came together in thoughtful, innovative and generous ways. As I transition into my new role, I’m filled with appreciation to the many donors, partners, staff, volunteers and advisors who made this journey with me.”

Bertman, a co-founder of CDP, has guided the organization to become the only full-time resource dedicated to helping donors maximize their impact by making community-informed, locally focused and equity-centered disaster-related giving decisions. She has been a leading advocate for smart and responsive philanthropic support for long-term recovery so that communities can better withstand future disasters.

Under Bertman’s leadership, CDP has provided more than $60 million in grants to support relief, recovery and rebuilding from disasters such as hurricanes, wildfires, pandemics, complex humanitarian emergencies and other crises worldwide. Bertman will continue to support CDP’s work as board chair emeritus.

“I am honored and humbled to lead CDP as the new chair following Lori Bertman’s impact on the organization. The influence of CDP is critical at this juncture as we partner with nonprofits, corporations and foundations to focus on humanitarian and natural disasters in proactive and sustainable ways,” said Jones. “CDP will continue to use a DEI lens, which has been consistent since the origin of CDP, to ensure equitable solutions to disasters for all communities that we serve.”

Jones, recently named James A. Joseph Lecturer on Philanthropy by ABFE, A Philanthropic Partnership for Black Communities, has served on CDP’s board for five years, including as board treasurer since 2017. Before joining the MacArthur Foundation, Jones served in various leadership roles at the Annie E. Casey Foundation, Danya International, Ford Motor Company, Pfizer Corporation and the Prudential. Benjamin joined Eli Lilly and Company in 2013. She manages the company’s corporate social responsibility efforts, disaster relief efforts, global health initiatives, Environmental, Social and Governance strategy, and community civic engagement. In 2020, she led the company’s global philanthropic response to the COVID-19 pandemic and racial inequity in the United States.

Campbell leads the External Research Office at AMD, which provides resource support to universities and institutions to accelerate technological innovation and science in the public interest. In his role, he led the $15M COVID-19 High Performance Computing Fund that distributed leading-edge technology to 23 organizations worldwide to support the fight against the pandemic and future medical research.

  •     Heather Geronemus, Director, Corporate Affairs and Corporate Social Responsibility, Ultimate Kronos Group.

“CDP is grateful to Lori Bertman for her vision and leadership as founding board chair, and we are fortunate that Ken has agreed to take on the role as her successor,” said Patricia McIlreavy, president and CEO of CDP. “Ken’s articulation of the lasting ramifications of disasters upon communities and his commitment to building partnerships for success will serve CDP well as we enter our second decade. I am excited to work alongside him and the incoming directors as we further amplify the importance of disaster philanthropy and its support for long-term and equitable recovery programming.”

Emotional Intelligence” is a clear advocacy for authoritative parenting style

News Image

“Shaping Your Child’s Healthy Self-Esteem-Self-Worth: Emotional Intelligence”: a potent examination of authoritative parenting. “Shaping Your Child’s Healthy Self-Esteem-Self-Worth: Emotional Intelligence” is the creation of published author Rose M. Ditto, PhD, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who has devoted a significant amount of time volunteering at a local, state, and national level through work with the General Federation of Women’s Club.

Ditto, PhD shares, “The greatest gift that can be given to a child during the early, formative years, is the encouragement and guidance to develop a healthy self-esteem/self-worth. Its development provides the child the probability of having self-respect, having respect for others, believing that they are a child of God, that they have a purpose in life, and that they are worthy. It affects relationships with friends, relationships within the family, relationships when attending school, relationships in the workplace, relationships while serving in leadership, and relationships in general during life. When healthy self-esteem/self-worth is not developed in the early formative years, it is difficult to develop later in life. It is not impossible but difficult. Habits and attitudes that are not favorable are likely to develop and are difficult to change. The parenting style in raising children is important, and this book gives research and support for the authoritative parenting style as being best. Parenting is the most important job we have in life. How we parent can shape a child’s perception as to the importance for becoming a responsible, productive person.”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Rose M. Ditto, PhD’s new book is an intelligent discussion of the key features of authoritative parenting and the potential for more positive behavioral results.

Former Attorney Eric J. Bonetti Appeals Grace Episcopal Church Alexandria Lawsuit to Federal Court of Appeals

Case alleges First Amendment, equal protection, and due process of law claims

Eric J. Bonetti, part of the first same-sex couple married at Grace Episcopal Church in Alexandria Virginia, has appealed a lawsuit filed in the federal district court for the Eastern District of Virginia in the case originally docketed at 1:2021cv00190. The original case was dismissed by the trial court.

The pleadings in the notice of appeal allege:

  • That the Commonwealth of Virginia, acting through its courts, cannot issue a protective order without a showing of a threat of imminent harm as required by the Virginia statute, without violating constitutional guarantees of due process and equal protection.
  • That the City of Alexandria Virginia cannot wade into a civil dispute, provide free legal advice and assistance to one party in the dispute, while ignoring allegations of illegal conduct by the other party, without violating constitutional guarantees of due process and equal protection of the laws.
  • That the City of Alexandria police department cannot repeatedly stop and interrogate peaceful protesters solely for exercising their rights to free speech, as doing so would chill the public’s First Amendment rights.
  • That the Commonwealth of Virginia, acting through the Alexandria Circuit Court cannot prohibit Bonetti from discussing his lawsuit against Robert Hiller Malm, absent some rational basis, including but not limited to an affected privacy interest on the part of the defendant, without violating First Amendment guarantees of free speech.
  • That the Alexandria Circuit court allegedly has displayed irrational bias against the Plaintiff, including preventing him from engaging in discovery and prejudging his case, thus violating constitutional guarantees of due process and equal protection.
  • That Plaintiff has a right under the federal Stored Communications Act to prohibit defendant Robert Hiller Malm and his family from accessing his blog in violation of the relevant terms and conditions.

Copies of the notice of appeal have been sent to counsel for the defendants and Virginia’s Office of Attorney General.

The notice of appeal is online at https://issuu.com/gracealexwatch/docs/p_notice_of_appeal_1_.

Juanita Werrett’s newly released “Balancing God, Science, and Technology in the End Times” is a potent look at science and religion in modern times

News Image

“Balancing God, Science, and Technology in the End Times”: a powerful discussion of the end times. “Balancing God, Science, and Technology in the End Times” is the creation of published author Juanita Werrett, a dedicated wife, loving mother, and lifelong student of science and religion.

Werrett shares, “It is critical in this day of discovery and augmented scientific knowledge that we come to an accurate balance of understanding between foundational science and foundational religion. We are facing a technology that is moving at enormous speed. We need to understand the precarious status of humans as we enter and live through the future technology era that is upon us. Humanity could be negatively affected by technology either unintentionally or by design. As we move forward, ethical and moral decisions will be confronted as to how we manage AI (artificial intelligence) robots, avatars, and the huge data-gathering process associated with the tech industries being formulated at this moment. Controversy will rage, but solutions will percolate. The truth is, you and I are ‘the product’ in the new global technology paradigm, and our information will feed AI, ‘the data-eating beast.’ Pandora’s box is open. Science and technology are leapfrogging forward at an exponential pace. There is no mechanism to stop it…except God!

“God’s children are weighted and wired for spiritual success. True doctrines and ordinances of the Gospel of Christ fortify faith and give Christians hope in His return. Spiritual development and power comes to those who are prepared and willing to stand with Christ. The fuller blessings may be ours in spite of the underlying challenges. Perhaps it is fortunate that we live in the fullness of time and the fast-approaching premillennial era. The righteous will be saved in life or death. Some may be blessed to witness the glorious Second Coming of the Savior.”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Juanita Werrett’s new book is an intelligently crafted examination of what could be on the horizon for mankind.

Pairing a love of science with devotion to Christ, Werrett provides a stirring examination of the ever-evolving world in relation to prophetic scripture.
