“One Christian’s Journey through Racism to Financial Security”: a helpful resource for those seeking to develop a better sense of money management skills. “One Christian’s Journey through Racism to Financial Security” is the creation of published author Earl C. Johnson, who was in the workforce for a total of forty-seven years (twenty-six years active-duty US Air Force and twenty-one years Air Force Civil Service). His formal education includes an Associate in Applied Science in Electronic Systems from Community College of the Air Force, a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Systems from Southern Illinois University, and a Master of Business Administration from Embry-Riddle University. Johnson has four adult children from a previous marriage, one of which went home to be with the Lord

Johnson shares, “In this book, I share with you a little about myself. How I grew up and my meager beginning while being raised by my grandparents back in Cincinnati, Ohio. The lack of financial management training I received while growing up and my unawareness to my condition of lower-class living. I give you some insight into some of my struggles with racism while in the military and the effects it had on me navigating the military’s system of advancement. How some military personnel believed that race was a determining factor in a person’s capacity to do certain jobs and, consequently, shouldn’t have equal access to promotions and opportunities. I share multiple scriptures with you as proof positive that God, the creator of heaven and Earth, the King of kings, and the Lord of lords, is our source; and it is He who gives us, the believers, the power to gain wealth. The Parable of the Talent in the book of Matthew and the Parable of the Minas in the book of Luke are solid evidence that God expects us to be good servants of the money He blesses us with. And I also share with you my six-step financial management system that will help any believer who follows it to become financially secure and a good servant of the money God has and will bless you with. The six-step financial management system is sequential—meaning, you start with the first step, and you don’t progress to the second step until the first step is complete. Doing so will ensure you have built a financial foundation that will not be shaken or destroyed by the tests, trials, and tribulations we all experience in this world. It ends with answering three questions about retirement: When do you start preparing for retirement? How much money will you need for retirement? And what does your retirement look like? This is the first book and it will serve as a financial foundation to those who absorb its contents. To you, that have ears to hear, if you read and believe you will achieve your financial goals. It is the will of God!”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Earl C. Johnson’s new book takes on the problem faced by many who were not afforded the training needed to become financially secure.

Johnson shares in hopes of aiding others in their pursuit of becoming financially secure through helpful guidance based on his own experiences and study.

Village residents have clean water access thanks to the Salesian Missions ‘Clean Water Initiative’

News Image

“Water projects in Zambia and around the globe ensure people coming to Salesian parishes, schools, and centers have access to the water they need. This brings a sense of hope and dignity to the people Salesians serve,” said Father Gus Baek, director of Salesian Missions.

ZAMBIA: Village residents have clean water access thanks to the Salesian Missions ‘Clean Water Initiative’

Project provided funding for a new borewell, water tank and pump.

More than 300 residents of the Kamakuti village in Kabwe, Zambia, have clean, fresh water thanks to the Salesian Missions “Clean Water Initiative.”

The project provided funding for a new borewell, water tank and pump in the village, which hosts one of the Salesian St. Mary’s Parish village chapels. Salesian Missions is the U.S. development arm of the Salesians of Don Bosco.

St. Mary’s Parish has four village chapels where priests meet people on a weekly basis for catechesis, prayers and sacraments. During the weekdays, the Salesian community utilizes these chapels for daily meetings and fellowship. Local women also use the chapels as meeting places and children’s preschools.

The villages lack basic services including water, proper sanitation and transportation. There is also a lack of education facilities for children, and people travel long distances to access a health center.

This is the first time this community has clean fresh water. Women and children will no longer have to travel a distance to bring back water to the village. Mr. Kasongo, a long-time village resident, could not believe that running water was now available. Another woman shouted, “Our children will live!” Children are often given the only water available from unsafe shallow wells, which can cause health complications that impede their growth.

“We appreciate our donors who have supported this water project,” said Father Gus Baek, director of Salesian Missions. “Water projects in Zambia and around the globe ensure people coming to Salesian parishes, schools, and centers have access to the water they need. This brings a sense of hope and dignity to the people Salesians serve.”

Poverty is widespread in Zambia with 64 percent of the total population living below the poverty line. For those living in rural areas, the poverty rate rises to 80 percent, according to UNICEF. Over the past three decades, incomes in Zambia have fallen steadily and people do not have enough money to meet basic needs such as shelter, nutritious food and medical care.

The HIV/AIDS epidemic has also taken a devastating toll on Zambia’s children. There are 1.2 million children classified as orphaned and vulnerable by UNICEF, and these children struggle to find education, basic services and hope for their future.

Clarksburg Church Hosts Groundbreaking for Community Site: The Clarksburg Yard

In 1994, a Master Plan was set for Clarksburg, MD to become “the final frontier.” In the Master Plan, seven specific values were outlined to guide the development of the rural area into a large-scale town with a projection of 14,000 housing units and 43,000 residents. One value included developing the land in a way that “provided for attractive land uses that encouraged opportunities for social interaction and promoted community identity.” Clarksburg is the fastest-growing community in Montgomery County, MD, and in 2020, the population swelled to over 8,000 households and over 25,000 residents, experiencing an 80% increase in 10 years.

During this fast-paced growth, the focus on building houses overcame the need for the development of community space. The Clarksburg Yard, scheduled to be completed in 2023, it is designed to foster community. Clarksburg Church will develop the front of their property for this community space. Clarksburg Church is located along the heavily trafficked 355 bike path, next to Clarksburg High School, within walking distance of two other middle schools and several new community developments.

Nature Sacred selected The Clarksburg Yard as their newest community partner and Sacred Place. According to Nature Sacred, “A Sacred Place is bonded together by a common goal: to reconnect people with nature in ways that foster mindful reflection, restore mental health, and strengthen communities.”

Nature Sacred is an active leader in establishing the design for The Clarksburg Yard and will seek feedback from community members regarding this new community space. Nature Sacred has granted The Clarksburg Yard $50,000 in design services to beautify this space. In addition to the outdoor space, The Clarksburg Yard will include bathrooms and a full-service cafe.

Through polls, conversations, and activities, attendees at the groundbreaking will be able to provide feedback and share their hopes and visions for the outdoor space.

The Clarksburg Yard will begin development during the public Groundbreaking located at Clarksburg Church, 22820 Frederick Rd, Clarksburg, MD, on December 4, 2022. Please pre-register for the free event to ensure enough food is available.

New Religious Book Delves into the World of Understanding Biblical Forgiveness

News Image

“Granting forgiveness too early releases the guilty party from any responsibility for their actions, withholding forgiveness may cause us to become bitter within ourselves”

Bill Ricksecker was going through a dispute with his local church; he was an outcast, labeled a heretic and his pastor was unforgiving of him, all because of one subject: biblical forgiveness. Taking this experience and using it as fuel, Ricksecker was inspired to write “Illustrating Forgiveness: Understanding Biblical Forgiveness and Reconciliation.”

Ricksecker believes that there may be some unanswered questions about forgiveness after his first book “Desperation of Doctrinal Reformation”. Over the course of nine chapters, Ricksecker threads the needle between granting forgiveness too early and withholding forgiveness.

“Granting forgiveness too early releases the guilty party from any responsibility for their actions,” Rickecker said. “While withholding forgiveness may cause us to become bitter within ourselves.”

Ricksecker elaborates on the Old and New Testaments to guide his readers to gaining a deeper understanding of reconciliation in their own lives and biblical forgiveness towards others. He believes that today’s psychology has “warped” biblical forgiveness to be more about the offended rather than the offender.

“Society has become more focused on self rather than the concern for others,” Ricksecker said. “We have become selfish rather than selfless.”

Journeying to Overcome the Roadblock Called Self” is a heartfelt testimony to God’s love

News Image

“Over the River and through the Fire: Journeying to Overcome the Roadblock Called Self”: a potent account of heartbreak and rebirth. “Over the River and through the Fire: Journeying to Overcome the Roadblock Called Self” is the creation of published author Sherry Lewton, a graduate of Asbury University, a loving mother of two sons, and a dedicated grandmother to four.

Lewton shares, “Heartache and brokenness are universal. When our lives are thrown into the fire, it will either make us or break us. In her memoir, author Sherry Lewton recounts events from her past that ignited her own fires, throwing her life into a blaze of secrecy, shame, despair, and devastation. Throughout those tumultuous years of painful experiences, roadblocks springing up to hinder recovery are labeled and defined. Of all the roadblocks, she acknowledges that it was her own self that was often the greatest obstacle preventing recovery. But Sherry unashamedly proclaims how choosing to focus on God alone as the only answer, and the only one who could heal her broken heart, led her to find her way to the path that could lead her out of the fire and into triumphant living.

“With no desire for platitudes, pat answers, or shaming techniques to infiltrate her message, she seeks to tenderly offer hope to her readers through an unwavering and passionate desire to inspire those who find themselves engulfed in fiery trials to let go of selfish motives and desires. In doing so, roadblocks that hinder recovery are removed, and we can then gain freedom to reach out our hearts and hands to a broken and hurting world. No other way will satisfy.”

Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Sherry Lewton’s new book will tug at the heartstrings as Lewton reflects upon the deeply challenging journey that led to triumph through Christ.

Lewton shares a collection of reflections and relevant scripture that capture the true experiences, both heartbreaking and exhilarating, of her personal and spiritual journey.

Consumers can purchase “Over the River and through the Fire: Journeying to Overcome the Roadblock Called Self” at traditional brick & mortar bookstores, or online at Amazon.com, Apple iTunes store, Books-A-Million, or Barnes and Noble.

All of these experiences grew out of a relationship with the Lord of all nations and learning to see His plans and dreams for the world. The struggles include how to communicate with other peoples and to understand their obvious differences.

Author Lori Marsh shares her experience of Loving People Of All Nations, Languages, and Cultures ($22.49, paperback, 9781662863301; $9.99, e-book, 9781662863318).

Even as a child, Marsh loved learning about people with other customs, languages and cultures than the one she was familiar with in small-town Ohio. “All of these experiences grew out of a relationship with the Lord of all nations and learning to see His plans and dreams for the world. The struggles include how to communicate with other peoples and to understand their obvious differences. The story touches on what I learned in all the years of my journey as well as the struggles. The ending points to the next step in the ongoing journey which is into the unknown,” said Marsh.

Lori Marsh has spent much of her life as a language teacher, teaching French, German and English to speakers of other languages. She has been on several missions’ trips, traveled to various countries and hosted many internationals in her home.
