Green Group Enters Turf Management Market with Two Large-Scale Partnerships

We’re on a mission to reimagine the way lawn care is done while honoring the legacies of respected, well-established brands across the nation.

Green Group, a newly formed turf maintenance startup lead by industry veteran Keith Freeman, today announced its formation along with two new strategic partnerships with prominent turf-management companies: Eastern Turf Maintenance and Loyalty Lawn Care. As part of Green Group’s formation, Benjamin Allen, former chief operations officer of LawnAmerica, joined Green Group as regional director. These brand and experienced industry-executive relationships, along with others planned for 2021, position Green Group as a unique employer in the green industry providing enterprise-level tools, processes, resources and opportunities to cultivate a people-first culture.

“We’re on a mission to reimagine the way lawn care is done while honoring the legacies of respected, well-established brands across the nation,” said Keith Freeman, founder and chief executive officer of Green Group. “We’re choosing to work with the most distinguished turf brands to combine smart employees, best practices and forward-thinking resources to create unparalleled experiences for both employees and customers alike.”

Green Group is intent on creating remarkable shifts in an industry that’s ripe for change. According to the 2020 State of the Industry Report by Lawn & Landscape, 88 percent of providers offer lawn care application services, and despite COVID-19, 97 percent of landscapers surveyed forecasted their businesses to grow in 2020. However, aging ownership, limited technology and limited ability to scale those companies is now more challenging than ever.

“People are the heartbeat of our business, and our vision is to underscore that in all we do, especially as the industry progresses,” said Freeman. “Engaged employees who feel valued create opportunities that drive change for themselves and for the business.”

“Having been a part of a green industry leader that was sold and acquired twice in five years personally, we uniquely understand the challenges with typical transactions from an operational perspective and a human perspective,” said Allen. “Green Group’s partnership model gets things done differently. We are equipped with great people, a solid plan and the trust that we have established throughout our careers.”

Importantly, in joining Green Group, all employees from both Eastern Turf Maintenance and Loyalty Lawn Care remain in place, bringing the total number of those employed by Green Group to more than 100. Green Group is currently hiring 20 additional employees to support new partnerships and growth. The company’s headquarters, located at 8811 Westgate Park Dr. in Raleigh, will be home to approximately 60 employees.

About Green Group

Green Group is a national turf maintenance company on a mission to lead the green industry in reimagining lawn care. Investing in people and processes first, Green Group thoughtfully and efficiently develops the most relevant, innovative and profitable outdoor services and experiences in North America. Headquartered in Raleigh, N.C., Green Group enables independently-owned turf businesses to continue providing the same top-quality service they always have, backed by the support and management of a national team.

Over 83% Of CEOs Want Employees Back In The Office in 2021, Only 10% Of Employees Want To Return Full Time according to new Best Practice Institute Study

Best Practice Institute 2021 Remote Workforce Study

“Our study found that over 83% Of CEOs want employees back in the office in 2021, however only 10% of employees actually want to return full time, and everyone requested specific accommodations. This presents a major issue for millions of employers in the new year” – Louis Carter

Global HR research consortium Best Practice Institute (BPI) released the initial findings of its workplace study that shows a significant discrepancy between the desires of CEOs and employees to return to the office in 2021. Over 83% of CEOs want employees back in the office in 2021, while only 10% of employees indicate they wish to be back in the office full time.

The discrepancy aligns with research performed by BPI’s CEO and Founder Louis Carter and published in his 2019 book with McGraw-Hill, In Great Company: How to Speak Peak Performance by Creating an Emotionally Connected Workplace, and the newly created Most Loved Workplaces list that focuses on building an organization centered around employee’s desire for respect and values as the best way to increase performance and productivity.

While only 10% of employees indicated their desire to return to the office full time in 2021, they did provide insights into what they are looking for upon return, all centered around trust and safety. Over 60% of employees responded they wouldn’t be comfortable returning without trusting the company’s confidence in communicating co-worker illness, clear instructions on health and safety policies, and the option to work from home.

The differences in employee and employer values will be highlighted on the new Most Loved Workplaces lists by including the 91% of American workers not employed by the largest companies. Since the 1990s we have had company lists that have predominantly focused on the old way of working with only the top 1% of employers. In 2021, we have Most Loved Workplaces to fill the void of company lists and criteria that are focused on the new way of working. These company lists typically require some type of large financial contribution to be considered in the top 10. Additionally, those placements will usually only go to firms spending $ millions on reputation management firms which skews the ability to verify transparent and actionable results.

The initial year of the study will culminate with the aggregated results being published in the December 2021 issue of Leader to Leader in partnership with the University of Pittsburgh Frances Hesselbein Leadership Forum.

“The study points toward the need to co-create a new working experience with employees in 2021, says Louis Carter, the study lead and CEO. “Although most CEOs want people to come back into the office, employees are very specific about what they expect. It is critical that leaders work with employees to create the best working environment not only feel comfortable about their health, but also feel respected for their choices.”

The study is intended to continue beyond 2021 to acquire the survey results of more than 10 million employee participants within 5 years. Organizations looking to participate in this year-long study can apply at https://mostlovedworkplace.com/.

Inpathy has been providing mental health care entirely virtually for the past seven years and is a covered benefit for more than 25 million individuals across the country. Not only has telebehavioral health services like Inpathy proven to be an effective form of delivering care, but now, due to COVID-19, it is the preferred form of care. According to the MMWR and Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, in June 2020, 40% of U.S. adults reported struggling with mental health or substance use associated with COVID-19. The same report showed that the prevalence of anxiety disorder symptoms were up approximately three times than the same prevalence in 2019 while the prevalence of depressive disorder was approximately four times higher.

Telebehavioral health allows payers to meet the growing mental health needs of their members who may be experiencing additional stress and anxiety caused by social isolation and the spread of COVID-19. Through Inpathy, Aetna members can fit sessions into busy days, cut out any travel time and expense, skip the waiting room, reduce expensive ED visits and hospitalizations, and connect to a large network of clinicians to receive the high-quality care they deserve. An Inpathy survey showed that 96% of their members prefer online to in-person care and 98% of members felt more engaged in their care.

“We are pleased to expand our long-time partnership with Inpathy to offer additional options to our members and increase access to mental well-being services in even more states,” explained Dr. Hyong Un, Chief Psychiatric and Innovation Officer at Aetna Behavioral Health. “More members will be able to access mental health televideo counseling services from the safety of their home. Have You Been Probed by an Alien Lately? PsychTests Researchers Release the Latest Data from Their Paranormal Beliefs Test

The world of the paranormal still has a certain allure, even in the 21st century.

Even though paranormal experiences may not be very common, people are still willing to entertain the idea that there are still many unknowns that can’t be easily explained.

You can’t really kill the concept of the occult and of mysticism…it’s human nature to be curious about and drawn to the unknown.

Most people will likely admit that they are at least a little entranced by the idea of spirits, succubus, and sea monsters. Entertaining the possibility of the paranormal, of making the unknown known, is human nature. It’s why people instinctively knock on wood to ward off a cruel twist of fate, hesitate to cross the threshold of a haunted house, or why billions of dollars are being spent to discover life in distant galaxies. A recent study conducted by PsychTests.com reveals that while only a small percentage of people have had what could be considered a paranormal experience, belief in the supernatural is still very much alive.

Analyzing data from 2,172 individuals who took the Paranormal Beliefs Test, PsychTests’ researchers uncovered some rather interesting statistics. Here are some interesting tidbits from their study.

SUPERSTITION

  • 49% of people in the sample indicated that their superstitions impact the decisions they make in their everyday life at least to some degree (e.g., not traveling on Friday the 13th, throwing salt over their shoulder when they knock over the salt shaker).

DREAMWORLD

  • 91% of respondents have had a recurring dream.
  • 79% have experienced lucid dreams.
  • 6% have engaged in astral travel.

PAST LIVE

  • 1% have consulted the Akashic records.
  • 6% have engaged in past-life regression.

THE WALKING DEAD

  • 26% have seen a ghost.
  • 7% have successfully used a Ouija board.
  • 16% have experienced poltergeist activity.

ANGELS & DEMONS

  • 12% saw/spoke to an angel or spiritual guide.
  • 3% witnessed or underwent an exorcism.
  • 7% said they cast a spell that worked.
  • 5% said they are/were victims of a curse.

BACK THE FUTURE

  • 22% have had premonitions of events that actually happened.
  • 13% received a psychic reading that turned out to be accurate.

ALIENS & FANTASTIC BEASTS

  • 7% said they have seen an alien or a UFO.
  • 5% have seen a mythical creature (e.g., Big Foot, Loch Ness Monster).

WHO ARE THE BELIEVERS?

  • Atheists were the least likely to believe in paranormal phenomena in general; Spiritualists (people who are spiritual but not religious) had the strongest paranormal beliefs.
  • People who believe in God or other divine entity were more likely to believe in an afterlife, folklore/myths/legends, witchcraft, psychics, aliens, and, most notably, karma. That being said, Muslims were the least likely to believe in aliens, even less so than Atheists.
  • Optimists are more likely to believe in the paranormal than pessimists.
  • People who avidly practice meditation are more likely to believe in the paranormal than those who don’t.
  • People who play the lottery every week have stronger paranormal beliefs than people who don’t play it at all.
  • 11 people in the sample indicated that they were abducted by aliens.
  • 56% of respondents said that they are fairly or very likely to share their paranormal experiences with friends and family.

“Although paranormal beliefs have most certainly evolved over time, it’s interesting to see that not all supernatural convictions and superstitions have died out,” states Dr. Jerabek, president of PsychTests. “The expansion of scientific exploration diffused and disproved a lot of phenomena that were once considered paranormal, but you can’t really kill the concept of the occult and of mysticism…it’s human nature to be curious about and drawn to the unknown. This isn’t to say that all phenomena perceived as ghosts are actual ghosts, and that every unidentified flying object is an intergalactic visitor, but people are very much willing to entertain the possibility. We are drawn to the paranormal because it’s a mystery that we have yet to fully solve.”

“Women from all walks of life are tapping into this current of change and reaching out to us from around the world,” says Cosmic Sister founder Zoe Helene, who coined the term Psychedelic Feminism. “We’ve been pitching, placing, sponsoring, and promoting female speakers for just shy of six years because access and inclusion shape the trajectory of this global revolution. Leadership should reflect that exquisite diversity.”

Cosmic Sister offers an interconnected quartet of merit-based Psychedelic Feminism educational advocacy grants, including the Cosmic Sister Women of the Psychedelic Renaissance (CS WPR) grant for presentation and the Cosmic Sister Emerging Voices Award (CS EVA), which increases visibility for talented women in psychedelics and cannabis who work tirelessly in behind-the-scenes roles, as well as newcomers who bring unique voice and talent to the movement.

This year, in partnership with Spirit Plant Medicine Conference (SPMC) and Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) Canada’s Examining the Psychedelic Renaissance, Cosmic Sister has awarded merit-based educational advocacy grants and awards to 30+ women who were born in and/or are based in and/or honor ancestry in a wide range of countries, including the United States, Canada, Japan, Nigeria, India, Peru, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Panama, Ecuador, Mexico, France, and the United Kingdom and more, helping them reach a global virtual audience.

“These women share a passion for human and non-human rights and for environmental protection,” Helene says. “And they credit psychedelics for changing the course of their lives.”

Expert hashmaker, educator, and media personality The Dank Duchess received a Women of The Psychedelic Renaissance grant to speak on the main stage at SPMC last year and a second Women of The Psychedelic Renaissance to present at SPMC this year. “The grant that I received from Cosmic Sister provided the opportunity for me to step fully into the academic psychedelic realm and to offer the unique perspective of a Black woman working with sacred medicines,” Duchess says.

Integration coach Raven Marie will present for the first time. “I’m so profoundly grateful to be making my speaking debut honoring the sacred plant medicine Iboga—which is of my own ancestry—alongside such a dynamic, intelligent, and heart-based group of women who are consciously changing the narrative of the role we play in the world of sacred plant medicines,” Raven says.

The educational grants are funded through tax-deductible donations by way of Cosmic Sister’s fiscal sponsorship with MAPS. “With great appreciation and gratitude, we wish to thank and acknowledge MAPS for their fiscal sponsorship and every single individual and entity who donated and supported,” Helene says. “When you witness these women sharing their wisdom, please know that you helped make this happen.”

New Theory Sheds Light on How the Environment Influences Human Health

Researchers at Mount Sinai have proposed a groundbreaking new way to study the interaction between complex biological systems in the body and the environment. Their theory suggests the existence of “biodynamic interfaces,” an intermediate entity between the two realms, as opposed to conventional approaches that analyze individual aspects of the interaction between the environment and humans in isolation, according to a paper published in BioEssays in October.

The environment impacts human health in profound ways, yet few theories define the form of the relationship between human physiology and the environment. The Mount Sinai scientists believe that such complex systems cannot interact directly, but rather that their interaction requires the formation of an intermediary “interface.” The scientists believe that this theory will lead to the establishment of a new field, “environmental biodynamics,” that will advance the way the environment and human health are studied.

The basis of their theory arose when they compared the time period when autistic children were exposed to toxins to how the children’s brains functioned afterward. At the same time, they found distinct patterns in the intake and metabolism of essential elements and toxins, which were dependent not only on the timing and magnitude of the environmental exposure but also on what was happening within the biological systems of the child’s body.

“These rhythms were driven by the properties of both the biological and environmental systems, but exhibited properties independent of either system,” said Manish Arora, PhD, the Edith J. Baerwald Professor and Vice Chair of Environmental Medicine and Public Health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. “They supported the existence of an interface mediating the interaction of biological and environmental systems. The interface itself, which applies constraints and passes information between interacting systems, must be the subject of inquiry because without refocusing the attention on biodynamic interfaces, how the environment impacts health cannot be discerned.”

The study of the interface will allow scientists to better understand how complex systems like the environment and human physiology affect each other. Current methods using plain analysis are incomplete, the scientists say.

“The standard course of inquiry measures some aspect of the environment like lead in the water, and we’d link this to some aspect in human development like IQ,” said Paul Curtin, PhD, Assistant Professor of Environmental Medicine and Public Health at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, an author on the paper. “We’ve learned a lot from environmental health using this approach, but it has its limits.”

This interface also considers social, behavioral, and cultural dynamics to be a particularly fruitful avenue of research. This new theory would allow scientists to assess the interface between income and other processes, including health outcomes using dynamical systems methods. It would also define how human activities could negatively influence the environment and negatively influence their own health outcomes and further environmental impacts over time.

Dr. Arora’s work was funded by a prestigious Revolutionizing Innovative, Visionary Environmental Health (RIVER) Award from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, totaling $8 million over eight years to complete research on the biodynamic interface. Alessandro Giuliani, PhD, Professor of Environmental Health at the University of Rome, has made a significant contribute to the development of the theory.

“Arora, Giuliani, and Curtin’s conjecture is potentially a major breakthrough, as knowing the factors that influence biological time may be the key to understanding why people age or mature at different rates, and how our early life experiences can influence our health as adults,” said Robert O. Wright, MD, MPH, Ethel H. Wise Professor and Chair of Environmental Medicine and Public Health and Director of the Institute for Exposomic Research at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.

Mine! Mine! Mine! – New Study Indicates That Entitlement Can Lead to Dishonesty

Some self-entitled people will use deception, manipulation, and other unscrupulous means to get what they want.

A strong sense of entitlement induces some people to do whatever they can to get what they want. To them, the end justifies the means.

This attitude is often seen in narcissists, people who have a chip on their shoulder, or who were raised by permissive, over-indulgent parents.

Young children can largely get away with pulling a tantrum when they are not given what they want. Grown-ups, not so much. Seeing a rebuffed adult making a scene in public is awkward, whether it’s about cutting in line, getting VIP treatment, or putting on a mask in order to shop. A strong sense of entitlement can also be a powerful motive for deception, according to recent research conducted by Queendom.com. Their study reveals that self-entitled people may employ underhanded tricks in order to get what they feel they deserve, including manipulation and lying.

Analyzing data from 8,864 people who took the Integrity and Work Ethics Test, Queendom researchers compared people on different traits related to honesty/dishonesty, based on their level of self-entitlement. Several noteworthy variances were discovered.

Certain personality attributes can increase a person’s likelihood of acting dishonestly, including the following: (Note: Scores on the traits below range on a scale from 0 to 100. The higher the score, the stronger the trait).

DECEITFULNESS

  • Score for people with a strong sense of entitlement: 70
  • Score for people with a low sense of entitlement: 24

MANIPULATIVENESS

  • Score for people with a strong sense of entitlement: 78
  • Score for people with a low sense of entitlement: 22

SELF-INTEREST

  • Score for people with a strong sense of entitlement: 79
  • Score for people with a low sense of entitlement: 26

MACHIAVELLARISM

  • Score for people with a strong sense of entitlement: 71
  • Score for people with a low sense of entitlement: 37

DISDAIN FOR RULE-FOLLOWERS

  • Score for people with a strong sense of entitlement: 70
  • Score for people with a low sense of entitlement: 17

VINDICTIVENESS

  • Score for people with a strong sense of entitlement: 75
  • Score for people with a low sense of entitlement: 28

DEVIOUSNESS

  • Score for people with a strong sense of entitlement: 80
  • Score for people with a low sense of entitlement: 28

ANTAGONISM

  • Score for people with a strong sense of entitlement: 72
  • Score for people with a low sense of entitlement: 24

SELF-ENTITLED PEOPLE ARE ALSO MORE LIKELY TO:

  • Have an overdeveloped sense of self-importance and superiority (score of 84 vs. 23)
  • Desire admiration (74 vs. 25)
  • Loathe weakness in others (80 vs. 26), as well as gullibility (72 vs. 32)
  • Take pleasure in other people’s misfortunes (80 vs. 23)

ON THE FLIPSIDE, SELF-ENTITLED PEOPLE ARE LESS:

  • Remorseful when they commit an act of transgression (56 vs. 83)
  • Accountable for their actions (60 vs. 82)
  • Willing to stand by their values, should they have any (55 vs. 86)
  • Trustworthy (53 vs. 78)
  • Loyal (55 vs. 72)
  • Discreet (41 vs. 73)
  • Empathetic (55 vs. 76)

“There are a number of factors that can breed a strong sense of entitlement,” explains Dr. Jerabek, president of PsychTests, the parent company of Queendom. “It’s important to first point out, however, that when we talk about entitlement, we’re not referring to a person’s fundamental right to safety, medical care, justice, respect, and love. We’re talking about people who demand and expect preferential treatment. This attitude is often seen in narcissists, people who have a chip on their shoulder, or who were raised by permissive, over-indulgent parents. However, a person may also develop a strong sense of entitlement as a result of over-compensating for low self-esteem, abandonment, betrayal, or an injustice. This compels the person to put their own needs first, to fight for their demands to be meet, regardless of the cost or inconvenience to others. And as our study has revealed, they have no qualms about using underhanded means to get what they want.”
