Medgaus Dental Group Boosts Aesthetics and Confidence with Gummy Smile Treatment in Pittsburgh, PA

Drs. Carl Medgaus Treats Gummy Smiles in Pittsburgh, PA with Crown Lengthening

When I give them back their smile, and the confidence to go every day and be who they really are — I still get goosebumps from it.

Drs. Carl Medgaus and Maelys Aguila help patients with a “gummy smile” obtain a more balanced and healthy mouth through crown lengthening in Pittsburgh, PA. A gummy smile is when a patient has excessive gum tissue that covers more of their tooth structure than it should. This condition can cause both emotional and physical concerns, but is easily treated with a crown lengthening procedure.

“Doing the kind of dentistry I do, rehabilitating a patient’s smile, is really rehabilitating the entire person,” says Dr. Medgaus. “Having a smile you’re confident in can change things so much. When I give them back their smile, and the confidence to go every day and be who they really are — I still get goosebumps from it.”

For some patients, a gummy smile can be an embarrassing condition, as it may make their teeth appear short or patients may show too much gum tissue when they smile. For these patients, crown lengthening helps to reshape the gum tissue into a more balanced and pleasing position. By removing the excess tissue, the smile can be made to look more natural, showing more teeth and less gum. It also allows for a rebalancing of the gums if they were irregularly shaped.

A gummy smile can cause health concerns for patients as well, because they are not able to clean their teeth below the gum line. This often results in cavities and bacteria developing on the tooth structure underneath the gums. Crown lengthening treatment is used to remove the gum tissue, granting access to the cavity or bacteria that was covered and allowing for further treatment.

To make the crown lengthening procedure simple and gentle for patients, Drs. Medgaus and Aguila offer sedation dentistry. Patients can receive oral sedation, nitrous oxide or IV sedation to give them a soothing, relaxed experience. Local anesthetic is often used to numb the treatment site to prevent sensations of discomfort.

Drs. Medgaus and Aguila offer many other cosmetic dentistry treatments to help patients improve their confidence and their smile. These respected dentists provide all of these services conveniently at two locations, with offices in Monroeville and Pittsburgh, PA. Additional cosmetic dentistry treatments include:

  •     – Porcelain veneers
  •     – Invisalign®
  •     – Crowns and bridges
  •     – Teeth whitening

Patients with gummy smiles who are interested in improving function or aesthetics through crown lengthening in the Pittsburgh, PA area are encouraged to contact Medgaus Dental Group at either of their office locations. Appointments can be made by calling 412-373-0310 for the Monroeville, PA office or 412-563-6333 for the Pittsburgh, PA practice. Workit Health Expands Telehealth Addiction Care Program to New Jersey

Today, Workit Health announced the expansion of its virtual, on-demand individualized services for addiction care to New Jersey. The telehealth substance use and opioid use disorder B-corporation will open an outpatient clinic in Hamilton, near Trenton in Mercer County in order to provide teleMAT alongside its coaching and counseling programs. Workit Health’s easy-to-use web and phone apps and robust EMR synthesize machine learning with patient-led design to enable smarter interventions and more personalized care. The company’s outcomes prove their commitment to disrupting the cycle of high-cost, inefficient addiction services, with a higher adherence and retention rate than traditional treatment types at 1/10th of the cost.

Annual opioid-related overdose deaths in New Jersey are nearly five times those both from car crashes and firearms. In 2018, the state experienced record drug deaths for the fourth straight year, with the overwhelming number of deaths being opioid-related. It’s estimated that even in the face of this crisis only one quarter of addiction treatment providers offer medication like buprenorphine — recognized as the gold standard of care for opioid-use disorder by SAMHSA.

“New Jersey has taken the lead on expanding access to buprenorphine by allowing paramedics to offer treatment,” says Lisa McLaughlin, Workit Health’s Co-CEO. “We’re excited to join the communities and organizations in New Jersey impacting the overdose crisis, and leverage our technology and care teams to provide long-term recovery for New Jerseyans.”

“We know that 90% of addiction care costs in New Jersey are utilized by people who have already received treatment but found it ineffective – Workit Health is something different and more accessible for this population,” says Robin McIntosh, Workit Health’s Co-CEO. “Members in our Michigan and California programs are thriving, and we’re ready to bring these same outcomes to the entire state of New Jersey.”

Workit Health removes barriers while solving for social determinants of health by allowing home-based, digital access to clinicians and counselors. Following an initial in-person visit for the teleMAT program, members access all follow-up care via web and phone apps, including video visits with clinicians, online recovery groups, messaging with a care team, personalized therapy-based courses, and at-home drug testing.

About Workit Health: Workit Health is an addiction healthcare B-corporation offering online, on-demand evidence-based addiction treatment including telehealth medication for opioid use disorder. Workit Health partners with healthcare organizations to deliver an innovative digital health solution that blends the best of human-centered design, technology, and science. Through mobile and web apps, members meet with clinicians and Master’s level coaches and complete self-set recovery goals. Workit Health offers 24/7 recovery that fits into daily life, designed by experts. Learn more at workithealth.com.

Westwind Integrated Health provides dentistry and primary care under the same roof to better care for the oral-systemic relationship of each patient. With this passion for comprehensive health care, the highly experienced Westwind Integrated Health staff is spreading awareness throughout Phoenix, AZ of both the medical and dental concerns that affect men’s health.

“Here at Westwind Integrated Health, we practice whole-body care, or integrated care between your mouth and your body,” says Dr. Maryam Beyramian. “When you come in for your dental visit, we will screen you for medical diseases, chronic diseases, or social problems that may lead to chronic diseases. Once we identify any risk factors, we will close your care gaps by collaborating with our medical team within the same office, and often within the same day, to give you whole body wellness care.”

The doctors at Westwind Integrated Health stress the value of keeping a patient’s mouth healthy in order to keep the entire body healthy. Part of their men’s health awareness campaign reveals some alarming statistics, such as the fact that men who smoke typically lose up to 12 teeth by the age of 72, and over 50 percent of men do not remember the last time they visited a dentist or doctor for primary care. Westwind Integrated Health hopes to encourage more men to receive both dental and primary care to help diagnose and prevent future concerns.

The dentists and medical doctors at Westwind Integrated Health offer many services to help their patients keep their oral and overall health in ideal condition. They treat men, women and children at all four practice locations throughout Phoenix and Glendale, AZ. Some of the services they provide include:

The Oral Surgeons of Midwest Oral Surgery & Dental Implants Support Pediatric Brain Cancer Awareness in Omaha, NE

Drs. John Wewel, Jerome Wees, and Benjamin Anderson, Oral Surgeons in Omaha, NE

Oral Surgeons at Midwest Oral Surgery & Dental Implants Raise Funds for Childhood Cancer

At Midwest Oral Surgery we take great pride in being leaders in our community.

Respected Omaha, NE oral surgeons, Drs. Jerome Wees, Benjamin Anderson and John Wewel, recently hosted the Team Jack Foundation’s “An Evening with Napa Valley” event at the Happy Hollow Country Club. The event offered attendees the opportunity to taste highly sought-after wine and food pairings, while learning about the Team Jack’s Pediatric Brain Tumor Program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) and the Children’s Hospital & Medical Center in Omaha, NE. The Team Jack Foundation is a multi-disciplinary childhood brain tumor foundation and is raising awareness to their cause.

During the event, attendees sampled featured wines from Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars in Napa Valley, CA along with heavy hors d’oeuvres. Attendees also learned about Team Jack’s Pediatric Brain Tumor Program and the mission it upholds. In 2013, the Team Jack Foundation and Nebraska State Legislature co-funded a $3 million pediatric brain tumor program at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Additionally, Team Jack Foundation pledged $5 million to the POWER5 Brain Cancer Initiative campaign. Proceeds from “An Evening with Napa Valley” as well as wine purchases made from the event helped fund the Team Jack Foundation. Midwest Oral Surgery & Dental Implants has supported the Team Jack Foundation through their Annual Team Jack Gala and is proud to continue to support the fight against child brain cancer.

The Midwest Oral Surgery & Dental Implants oral surgeons are passionate about health and offer advanced technology and modern dental treatments to not only solve immediate needs, but to enhance patients’ overall health as well. Commonly, patients seek full mouth dental implants as a solution to tooth loss, but the results often improve a patient’s overall lifestyle like diet and facial structure as well.

Full mouth dental implant treatment is a complex surgical procedure commonly performed by oral surgeons due to the advanced nature of the procedure. For patients who have experienced extensive tooth loss or have many failing teeth, full mouth dental implants can replace all their teeth with lifelike and functional new teeth. The procedure requires surgical placement of four to six dental implants into the jawbone which support a bridge of new teeth. These new teeth differ from traditional dentures because they are made of high-quality material and rest comfortably on the implants, not the gums. Patients will be able to eat, smile and speak comfortably, improving both their oral and overall health.

“At Midwest Oral Surgery we take great pride in being leaders in our community. We have been an established practice for over 30 years,” says Dr. Wewel. “We can take the most fearful patient and provide them with a safe, predictable outcome by starting with the end in mind. We pride ourselves on treating patients right.”

Midwest Oral Surgery and Dental Implants is a comprehensive specialty practice that has been serving Omaha, NE for over 30 years and features a team of highly experienced, educated oral surgeons. The practice offers full mouth dental implants, implants to replace individual missing teeth, wisdom teeth extraction, bone grafting and more. Most of the procedures offered are designed to restore both oral function and whole-body health. The oral surgeons are medically trained and also offer patients oral pathology exams to check for potential diseases that can affect more than just the mouth, but the entire body as well.

Those interested in learning more about the Team Jack Foundation or these Omaha, NE oral surgeons are encouraged to contact the practice at 402-397-7777 or by visiting http://www.midwestoms.com.

What Hospitals and Health Systems Need to Know

“These new rules will open up new avenues for providers to participate in value-based payment.,” said Caravan Health founder Lynn Barr.

Caravan Health founder Lynn Barr and Neal Shah, a shareholder in Polsinelli’s health care law practice, will present an interactive webinar on Tuesday, November 12 at 9 AM PT/12 PM ET about the recently proposed rules on the Physician Self-Referral (Stark) and Anti-Kickback Statutes (AKS). Any health providers interested in the new exceptions and safe harbors in value-based health care can register here for the webinar.

Health care providers have long identified the Stark and AKS law, intended to prevent abuse in Medicare in the form of self-referrals, bribes, or other unlawful payment, as barriers to the care coordination required of high-functioning value-based health care arrangements. Last month, the Department of Health and Human Services issued a pair of rules that would provide certain exceptions to the Stark and AKS laws to encourage taking financial risk in value-based care.

“These proposals represent the most significant potential revision to these laws in decades,” said Mr. Shah. “We will review some of the biggest practical impacts of the proposals and help providers identify opportunities to give the agencies feedback.”

These critical updates will modernize these laws for today’s health care reimbursement landscape. With the move away from a fee-for-service, volume-driven payment environment toward payments based on quality, these rules ease the way for participation in value-based payment.

“These new rules will open up new avenues for providers to participate in value-based payment.,” said Ms. Barr. “Join us as we review the regulatory details, the timeline for public comment, and explain what it all means for providers in accountable care.”

Technology Fast 500 award winners are selected based on percentage fiscal year revenue growth from 2015 to 2018.

In order to be eligible for Technology Fast 500 recognition, companies must own proprietary intellectual property or technology that is sold to customers in products that contribute to a majority of the company’s operating revenues. Companies must have base-year operating revenues of at least $US50,000, and current-year operating revenues of at least $US5 million.
