Atlanta Facial Plastic Surgeon Dr. Benjamin Stong on Why The Holidays Have Become Prime Time for Cosmetic Surgery Procedures

News Image

Everyone wants to look their best for the holidays, so we see lots of patients coming during the fall to get the treatments they want. Plus, patients can take advantage of their time off and downtime at work for these procedures, some of which require recovery times and some of which do not.

World-renowned cosmetic and facial plastic surgeon Ben Stong states that “the holidays are really the optimal time for surgical procedures for a number of reasons” – and he should know. With many years of providing elite and cutting-edge cosmetic and plastic surgery to patients from across the country, he is about as knowledgeable as one can person can be on the topic.

As Stong states “Everyone wants to look their best for the holidays, so we see lots of patients coming during the fall every year to get the treatments they want. Plus, patients can take advantage of their time off and downtime at work for these procedures, some of which require recovery times and some of which do not.”

Renowned for results in facial plastic surgery that are natural, balanced, rejuvenated and attractive, Dr. Ben Stong is a double board-certified and fellowship-trained Facial Plastic Surgeon in Atlanta. Thus, he’s the perfect person to discuss plastic and cosmetic surgery during the holidays.

Stong points out that some of the most popular procedures during the Holiday Season are nonsurgical, including facial fillers and neuromodulators like Botox. Patients consider facial fillers and injectables great options to get themselves ready for holiday parties and the many photographs involved. Stong advises his clients how fillers can restore lost volume in the cheeks or under the eyes, can plump lips and fill in facial lines. These procedures can have immediate results and so they are often undertaken even a few days from holiday events. Lasers, IPL treatments and chemical peels are also popular during this time.

About Dr. Benjamin K. Stong and Kalos Facial Plastic Surgery, LLC:

Commercial Cannabis Industry Moving to Powdered Nutrients to Increase Quality and Yields

Lotus powdered nutrients

Lotus powdered nutrients

A relative newcomer in the nutrient market, Lotus Nutrients blends all the essential nutrients into a simple three-part system formulated by medical growers and specifically designed for medicinal plants.

Liquid nutrients have reigned supreme in the home grow market for a long time; however growers in the commercial space have been transitioning to powdered nutrients because of the cost-effectiveness and ease of use, and home growers have begun to follow suit as well. Due to the difficulty in combining essential macro and micronutrients, most nutrient companies package them separately, forcing a grower to buy as many as a dozen separate products in order to obtain all of the nutrients cannabis plants need throughout their lifecycle. Liquid nutrient programs can often be complicated and bulky, due mostly to the abundance of plain water included in every mix.

A relative newcomer in the nutrient market, Lotus Nutrients blends all the essential nutrients into a simple three-part system formulated by medical growers and specifically designed for medicinal plants. Their water-soluble powdered nutrients are quickly becoming a preferred choice for commercial agriculture and a great solution for new home growers, and work in both hydroponic and soil growth environments.

Lotus Nutrients was founded by a team of Northern California growers, scientists, and horticulturists with decades of cultivation experience. Frustrated with the glut of overly complicated liquid nutrients on the market, they united with one goal—to create the benchmark for pure medicinal-grade plant nutrients. Specially formulated for medicinal plants, Lotus Nutrients are comprised of 15 unique, raw, natural ingredients including 13 essential macro and microelements as well as raw materials in seaweed plant extract, humalite, and plant protein hydrolysate.

Lotus Pro Series Nutrients feature a simplified 3-part powder-based formula that promises to outperform any 8, 9 or 10 part liquid recipe. The naturally formulated recipe is also dust-free, 100 percent water-soluble, dye-free and anti-caking, with no fillers.

Lotus Grow aids in producing thick stems, tight internodal spacing, dense canopy development, and massive roots, while Bloom is designed to trigger rapid on-set of flowering by providing plants with all necessary components needed for strong development. Finally, Boost is the turbo-charged secret weapon that leads to unsurpassed size and density of flowers while maximizing oil production for increased potency and taste.

Lotus powdered nutrients are absolutely something to consider for commercial facilities, and something retailers should be stocking on their shelves. While liquid nutrients have dominated the market for a considerable time, they can be needlessly bulky and complicated, and growers are getting tired of spending money on nutrient systems that are largely made up of plain ol’ water.

Available online at lotusnutrients.com and at hundreds of retailers nationwide, Lotus Nutrients was scientifically developed by Northern California growers with decades of medicinal plant cultivation experience. Specifically formulated for medicinal plants and comprised of 15 unique raw, natural ingredients including 13 essential macro and microelements, Lotus Nutrients are 100 percent water-soluble formula milled and blended to provide perfect consistency while containing no binders, fillers or dyes.

High Resolution Ultrasound Breast Implant Screening Now Available at Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery

Dr. Larry Nichter and Dr. Jed Horowitz, Board-Certified Plastic Surgeons

“By offering high-resolution ultrasound, we can offer women with implants an accurate, safe, and affordable option for screening, in the comfort and privacy of our practice.” Dr. Nichter

Women with silicone gel breast implants are advised by the FDA and plastic surgeons to routinely monitor their implants for silent silicone rupture and other potential issues. MRI has historically been the FDA’s suggested screening method for women with silicone implants and recommends having it done every 2 to 3 years. Board-certified plastic surgeons Dr. Larry Nichter and Dr. Jed Horowitz state that very few women actually follow through with this recommendation. MRI screening can be very expensive, time-consuming, and uncomfortable making it less likely for women to adhere to the suggested guidelines. Mammograms are also not the most accurate method to look for an implant problem.

Fortunately, an option for breast implant screening is high-resolution ultrasound which also has numerous benefits for women. Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery in Newport Beach, California is now offering high-resolution ultrasound for all women with breast implants, regardless of who performed their breast implant surgery.

“The well-being of breast implant patients is a matter that is very important to us. The risk for rupture exists with all implants and increases with time especially for implants after 10 years, we, therefore, encourage women to monitor their implants after 5 years as silicone implant rupture is usually silent and the standard of care is to have them replaced if this is the case. We can also detect fluid. We understand MRI screening is not an ideal option for many patients so it just made sense for us to offer high-resolution ultrasound” explains Dr. Nichter.

Why high-resolution ultrasound breast implant imaging over MRI?

Dr. Nichter highlights several benefits of high-resolution ultrasound over MRI, including:

Significantly lower cost

Immediate results

Painless

Safe, even for those with metal implants or devices

Accurate & reliable

Ultrasound has been used in the medical field for decades and is proven to be one of the safest, most reliable imaging technologies available. Women also feel a sense of ease and comfort knowing they can have their breast implants checked without exposure to radiation or magnetic fields.

At Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery, ultrasound screening is only performed by breast surgery experts and board-certified plastic surgeons. Patients also appreciate receiving their results immediately with the ability to discuss any findings of concern in greater detail. This is not something imaging centers offer.

Should the ultrasound screening detect an issue such as a silent rupture, the implant or implants may not need to be replaced immediately, but breast implant revision is an option that can be discussed with the doctor in greater detail should the patient take advantage of Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery’s comprehensive screening package which provides a complete consultation with best surgical options suited to the individual case. Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery is currently accepting appointments for high-resolution ultrasound screening for all women with breast implants, regardless of where their implant surgery was initially performed. Dr. Larry Nichter and Dr. Jed Horowitz are some of the most experienced breast revision surgeons including advanced removal techniques (e.g. en bloc capsulectomy), breast lifts and breast augmentation using a woman’s own fat (e.g. California Breast Lift®).

Signature Science Selects STACS Casework Software for Commercial DNA Laboratories

News Image

“Following an extensive search of available LIMS, STACS Casework is the only software we saw that fundamentally understood the DNA testing process and supported multiple DNA labs,” says Leslie Parke, Forensic DNA Laboratory Director, Signature Science

STACS DNA, the sample-tracking software company, today announced that Signature Science, LLC, has selected STACS Casework DNA sample tracking and laboratory management software for its ANAB accredited laboratory in Austin, TX and the firm’s Center for Advanced Genomics in Charlottesville, VA.

“Following an extensive search of available LIMS, STACS Casework is the only software we saw that fundamentally understood the DNA testing process and supported multiple DNA labs,” says Leslie Parke, Forensic DNA Laboratory Director, Signature Science. “Other vendors said they could customize their product to our processes, but STACS had a leg up in understanding and addressing DNA testing.”

STACS Casework will replace an internally-developed LIMS, streamlining routine tasks in the labs and enabling analysts to dedicate more of their time to casework. Leslie Parke says that the STACS Casework discovery module will also streamline the discovery process, specifically with respect to pulling the correct versions of SOPs for a specific case. Other expected improvements include more complete and consistent records, reduced time to perform reviews, and production-related statistics reporting for management.

“We are delighted to work with Signature Science, such a well-respected laboratory,” says Jocelyn Tremblay, President and COO, STACS DNA. “Their choice of STACS Casework to support their commercial practice validates that we have the best DNA sample processing software and services available.”

ABOUT SIGNATURE SCIENCE, LLC
