Shriners Hospitals for Children to Participate in 131st Rose Parade Presented by Honda

News Image

For the tenth consecutive year, Shriners Hospitals for Children® will participate in the 131st Rose Parade presented by Honda. Eight representatives will ride on the float entitled Hope Knows No Limits. The float expresses the hope that can be seen in every aspect of the work and the mission of Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Our float depicts one result of the presence of hope: joy and acceptance – seen through the carefree exuberance of children sharing a day at the playground. Hope gives them the freedom to enjoy their childhood. Our mascot, Fezzy®, marks his eighth appearance on our Rose Parade floats by joining the children in the playground – the one who is part of the float design, and four patients whose lives are a showcase for hope every day. Madelyn and Cristian, our National Patient Ambassadors, are joined by patients and local residents, Monserrath and Gianna. Also riding on the float are Imperial Potentate Jeff Sowder and First Lady Cheryl, and Imperial Chaplain Bobby Simmons and his wife Nancy.

Our entry, Hope Knows No Limits, celebrates the joyful, carefree spirit of childhood that is born of hope. For our patients, hope guides everything – from the ability to enjoy and participate in what are typically everyday experiences, to believing in the future and the ability to contribute to society, from endless resilience and perseverance, and even being accepted and welcomed. Hope is a strong current underlying everything we do at Shriners Hospitals for Children – including offering care for complex medical conditions, conducting research to discover answers and create new and better treatments, and offering medical education opportunities to share knowledge that extends our reach to even more children.

The parade’s theme of The Power of Hope is illustrated throughout our float. In fact, even our title, Hope Knows No Limits, can be seen as a description of the parade theme. Hope is present in the joyful abandon of the characters of the float itself, and in the hearts and minds of the patients riding on the float, who demonstrate the power and the limitless nature of hope in their lives every day, as they go on to dream big and achieve more than even they can imagine. Shriners Hospitals for Children are places where hope and healing meet, and lives are changed.

The Shriners Hospitals for Children float will be on display for pre-judging, and float riders will be available for media interviews starting at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2019, at Phoenix Decorating Co., Rose Float Plaza South, 5400 Irwindale Ave., Irwindale, California.

MedicoExperts launched effective and economical weight loss procedures in India

Weight loss

MedicoExperts introduced sustainable and cost-efficient weight solutions to obese individuals

When considering to travel to India for surgery, we highly recommend that you choose the right bariatric surgeon who has the best experience & success rate.

Recent medical research suggests that weight loss procedures like gastric balloon and gastric sleeve are gaining popularity in India. This popularity can be credited to MedicoExperts for making both the procedures cost-effective and result oriented. These procedures can not only assure weight loss but also have the capability to correct sugar and blood pressure levels. Depending upon the target weight, BMI, patient’s own personal preference to the nature of the procedure, other co-morbidities like diabetes and blood pressure, etc. the bariatric surgeon will recommend either gastric balloon or gastric sleeve procedure.

Gastric sleeve and gastric balloon are procedures that help to lose weight and also get rid of weight-related problems like diabetes, hypertension, etc. Gastric sleeve surgery is done laparoscopically where the size of the stomach is significantly reduced. Gastric sleeve can also be done robotically which involves minimal cuts. A gastric balloon is done endoscopically i.e. without any cut. In this procedure, a saline-filled balloon is placed in the stomach for a period of 6 to 12 months.

As undergoing any type of weight loss procedure is expensive and generally not covered by insurance, MedicoExperts offers cost-efficient options in India where the healthcare facilities are at par with international standards. MedicoExperts has empanelled the most experienced and highly-qualified surgeons who are trained in the finest institutes of the world. Moreover, the cost of choosing a weight loss surgery in India is one-sixth of what it costs in any other country like the US or UK. The cost of gastric sleeve in India starts from USD 6000 while the cost of a gastric balloon in India starts from USD 3500.

“Young and unmarried women, and even married women who are yet to complete their families choose gastric balloon. Reason being the procedure involves no cut, can be reversed and does not change the physiology of the body yet helps lose about 22-44 pounds (10-20 kgs). Gastric sleeve surgery is suggested when patients need to lose about 33-88 pounds (15-40 kgs). Both these procedures are highly successful but are recommended to separate pools of patients depending on the amount of weight they need to lose,” states Priyanka, Senior Patient Care Manager with MedicoExperts.

“When considering to travel to India for surgery, we highly recommend that you choose the right bariatric surgeon who has the best experience & success rate. Furthermore, identify the hospital which is having appropriate infrastructure and luxury according to your budget. As a company, our main focus is always to provide our patients with highly skilled surgeons that gives them the liberty to make a choice according to their budget and preference,” states Monal Bagga, Senior Patient Care Manager with MedicoExperts.

Claims Analysis of Omada Program Shows Significant Savings

Omada Health today released the results of an independent claims analysis on the effectiveness of the company’s flagship digital care program. The analysis, conducted by IBM MarketScan, tracked the health and economic impact of more than 2,000 Dow employees enrolled in the Omada for Prediabetes Program over the course of two years. The analysis demonstrated strong results on participant engagement, health outcomes, and medical costs savings.

In the first year, Dow spent an average of $1,169 less on medical expenses per participant enrolled in the Omada Program compared to a matched cohort. An additional $630 in savings was realized in Year Two, for a total savings of $1,799 per employee enrolled in the Omada Program. The matched cohort was determined by IBM Marketscan. Participants were matched based on a number of different variables including demographics, clinical comorbidities, health plan type, as well as prior year prescription drug spend and overall medical claims.

“Achieving outcomes with participants in real-world settings is what actually matters in healthcare — for digital health companies, employers, and users,” said Omada Co-Founder and CEO Sean Duffy. “Our success with Dow and their workers shows what can happen with deep collaboration between an employer and digital care company, and a common commitment to delivering effective, personalized benefits to a population.”

In addition to the topline cost savings, emergency room admission rates were 63 percent lower for Omada participants in the first year; diabetes-related medical and prescription spending was 62 percent lower. Each program participant was matched in the baseline year to a control member in a comparison population as determined by IBM MarketScan. The analysis focused on clinical outcomes and medical claims of the 2,000 person population. The overall objective of the study was to determine if meaningful improvements were achieved in reducing disease progression, health care utilization, and medical spending.
