Wireless Zone® Donated $25,000 to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital® in November

Wireless Zone®, a Verizon authorized retailer and the nation’s largest wireless retail franchise, recently donated $25,000 to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital® through its philanthropic Wireless Zone Foundation for Giving®. The check presentation took place on November 16, 2019. St. Jude’s is one of the Wireless Zone Foundation for Giving’s core charities—groups supported annually that are selected for their service of all Wireless Zone communities.

St. Jude, a leading children’s hospital that strives to impact the way the world understands and treats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases, was founded in 1962 with the dream that “no child should die in the dawn of life.”

According to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital website, “the mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. Consistent with the vision of our founder Danny Thomas, no child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay.”

“The Wireless Zone Foundation for Giving continues our community support with a donation to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We’re proud to support an organization that works to find cures and heal children at no cost to the families,” said Brian Murtari, President of the Wireless Zone Foundation for Giving and Chief Information Officer for Wireless Zone. “Childhood illnesses occur in every community; each donation at any of our stores can help someone in their local community.”

Through the support of its patrons and dedicated Wireless Zone franchisees, the Wireless Zone Foundation for Giving is able to aid various programs put on by the hospital including groundbreaking research in the field of childhood illness.

The Wireless Zone Foundation for Giving allows for franchisees to participate in other system wide events including the annual Backpack Giveaway to local schools. Franchisees collect funds throughout the year in order to purchase new backpacks stocked with necessary school supplies for children in need. In 2019, Wireless Zone’s third annual Backpack Giveaway gave out an estimated 70,000 backpacks to children in need all across the country. More information about the Wireless Zone Foundation for Giving and its charity partners can be found at https://wirelesszone.com/foundation/.

METAvivor Announces 2019 Grant Awards For Metastatic Breast Cancer Research

METAvivor announces $5 million in metastatic breast cancer research grant awards.

METAvivor’s hope for the $5 million in vital research grant funds is that it will move us closer to fulfilling our promise to transform metastatic breast cancer from a terminal disease into a chronic, manageable condition.

METAvivor Research and Support Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to funding research for Stage IV metastatic breast cancer (MBC), announces 32 grant awards totaling $5,000,000. These research grants will enhance the understanding of metastatic breast cancer, help improve current treatments and develop greatly needed therapeutic options to combat this complicated disease. Since its founding in 2009, METAvivor has put 100% of donations into its peer-reviewed research grant program.

Metastatic breast cancer (also known as Stage IV or advanced stage cancer) is the spread of breast cancer to other parts of the body — most commonly to the bones, liver, lungs and/or brain. Approximately 30% of breast cancer patients metastasize, with the mean survival after diagnosis being 33 months. In the US, only 2-5% of all cancer research funds are dedicated to Stage IV cancer research – yet 98% of all breast cancer deaths are caused by a metastasis.

“2019 was METAvivor’s 10-year anniversary and we set a goal to have our biggest grant funding cycle.” said Beth Fairchild, President of the Board of Directors “We exceeded our goal with the help of our committed supporters and fundraisers. We have to continue to increase funding for metastatic breast cancer or we will continue to lose lives to metastatic breast cancer.”

METAvivor is awarding grants from four award programs. The Early Career Investigator Award program is focused on funding grants for early career metastatic breast cancer researchers, The Translational Research Grant awards program is targeted at career metastasis researchers with a total award of up to $200,000 per grant for 2019, a $100,000 Advisor’s Award and the Founder’s Award of $500,000 is a special grant category focused on clinical research.

METAvivor is pleased to present the grants based on funds from our donors and fundraisers who have helped METAvivor to achieve and exceed its challenge goal for 2019.

Beth Fairchild, President of METAvivor, said, “The 32 grants that we are presenting today, bring our grand total of metastatic breast cancer specific research awards to $12,400,000. It is our sincere hope that these grants, and the vital research that they fund, will move us closer to fulfilling our promise to transform metastatic breast cancer from a terminal disease into a chronic, manageable condition. We would like to thank our donors, fundraisers, research partners, sponsors and the breast cancer community for their ongoing support and commitment.”

Prettau Zirconia is the only dental implant material with a verified five-year, 100 percent success rate.

Drs. Thomas and Jessica Gibbs, dentists in Glen Ellyn, IL, now offer the new, leading full arch dental implant solution, Teeth Tomorrow®. Many patients with numerous missing teeth or ill-fitting dentures consider dental implants as the ideal solution for improved aesthetics, function, and overall health. Unlike the latest trend of same-day dental implants, Teeth Tomorrow focuses on providing proper gum healing and creating strong, long-lasting dental bridges.

Unlike traditional teeth-in-a-day procedures, with Teeth Tomorrow, patients can heal overnight allowing the swelling from surgery to decrease. When they return the next day, patients are given an immediately functional dental appliance. These appliances are made in a dental lab overnight, creating a more refined dental bridge than those made in a dental office.

The final Teeth Tomorrow dental appliance is crafted from a solid block of Prettau® Zirconia, a unique, high-quality material that does not chip, crack, stain, or attract plaque. Prettau Zirconia is the only dental implant material with a verified five-year, 100 percent success rate. Custom-crafted, these zirconia bridges are made to each patient’s individual specifications, improving function as well as complementing facial aesthetics. The Teeth Tomorrow dental implant solution is now the preferred full arch treatment that Drs. Thomas and Jessica Gibbs recommend.

The dentists at Smile Glen Ellyn use the latest technology to predict the best placement for each dental implant. With their cone beam 3D CT scanner, Drs. Thomas and Jessica Gibbs measure the quantity and quality of the jawbone to get a precise analysis, within 100 microns, of where each dental implant should be placed. They complete tooth extractions when necessary and offer nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and IV sedation to help each patient feel comfortable. Canal Calem Periodontics Stabilizes Loose Dentures in Cherry Hill, NJ with Dental Implants

Periodontists, Drs. Mario Canal and Ben Calem, and Their Staff at Canal Calem Periodontics, Serving Cherry Hill, NJ

Canal Calem Periodontics Secures Loose Dentures in Cherry Hill, NJ

Implant supported dentures are a way to get fixed or removable teeth for a patient utilizing implant therapy.

Patients in Cherry Hill, NJ can find a solution to their loose dentures through the placement of dental implants at the respected Medford, NJ practice, Canal Calem Periodontics. Drs. Mario Canal and Ben Calem offer implant supported dentures to secure a denture prosthesis to as few as two dental implants placed within the jaw. These dental implants add security to the denture, preventing it from slipping, falling out or causing pain to the gums.

One of the lesser-known side effects of long-term denture wear is the eventual loss of jawbone volume. Without a tooth root or dental implant to stimulate bone growth, the jawbone will begin to deteriorate. This is often accelerated with the pressure dentures put on the bone. As bone loss occurs, facial shape changes and causes the denture to no longer fit properly, leading to a loose, uncomfortable fit. Patients must then have their denture adjusted or create a new one. By simply placing dental implants into the jawbone and attaching the denture to these implants, these concerns can be avoided.

“Implant supported dentures are a way to get fixed or removable teeth for a patient utilizing implant therapy,” says Dr. Canal. “An implant can be put in for a fixed tooth or for a removable tooth. This includes full arches of teeth.”

Dental implants are biocompatible titanium posts that are often considered to be the “gold standard” solution to replace missing teeth. When placed into the jaw to secure a denture, the implant post will mimic the function of a natural tooth root, stimulating the bone to prevent deterioration. A denture can be retrofit to attach to the implants, which hold the denture firmly in place. With implant supported dentures, there is virtually no risk of the denture shifting or moving. Plus, the denture rests comfortably on the implants, not the gums. Compared to traditional dentures, implant supported dentures offer many advantages, including:

  • Security within the jaw
  • A more natural bite
  • Preservation of the jawbone
  • Improved comfort to wear
  • A long-lasting tooth loss solution

Implant supported dentures can significantly improve quality of life, enhance comfort and offer improved oral function to denture wearers. Patients with loose dentures who are interested in receiving dental implants in Cherry Hill, NJ or surrounding areas are encouraged to contact Canal Calem Periodontics for a consultation. The practice can be reached online at http://www.canalcalemperio.com or at one of their two locations in Moorestown and Medford, NJ. To connect with the Moorestown location, call 856-439-1200. For the Medford office, call 609-953-3700.

Canal and Ben Calem strive to improve their patients’ oral health and re-develop their dentition, where necessary. Both Drs. Canal and Calem are active in the community through their involvement with Donated Dental Services and The Holocaust Survivor’s Program. The UroLift permanent implants, delivered during a transurethral outpatient procedure, relieve prostate obstruction and open the urethra directly without cutting, heating, or removing prostate tissue.

The UroLift Center of Excellence program is designed to highlight urologists who are committed to educating their patients on BPH and the UroLift System as a treatment option and consistently seek to deliver excellent patient outcomes and experiences.

“We are pleased to recognize Dr. Vi Hua as a UroLift Center of Excellence for his commitment to providing consistent care to BPH patients using the UroLift System treatment,” said Dave Amerson, president of the Teleflex Interventional Urology business unit. “This achievement has helped many patients experience durable, long-term relief from the burdensome symptoms of BPH while preserving sexual function*1,2.”

Over 40 million men in the United States are affected by BPH, a condition that occurs when the prostate gland that surrounds the male urethra becomes enlarged with advancing age and begins to obstruct the urinary system. Symptoms of BPH often include interrupted sleep and urinary problems and can cause loss of productivity, depression and decreased quality of life.

Medication is often the first-line therapy for enlarged prostate, but relief can be inadequate and temporary. Side effects of medication treatment can include sexual dysfunction, dizziness and headaches, prompting many patients to quit using the drugs. For these patients, the classic alternative is surgery that cuts, heats or removes prostate tissue to open the blocked urethra. While current surgical options can be very effective in relieving symptoms, they can also leave patients with permanent side effects such as urinary incontinence, erectile dysfunction, and retrograde ejaculation.

About the UroLift® System

The FDA-cleared UroLift System is a proven, minimally invasive technology for treating lower urinary tract symptoms due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The UroLift permanent implants, delivered during a minimally invasive transurethral outpatient procedure, relieve prostate obstruction and open the urethra directly without cutting, heating, or removing prostate tissue. Clinical data from a pivotal 206-patient randomized controlled study showed that patients with enlarged prostate receiving UroLift implants reported rapid and durable symptomatic and urinary flow rate improvement without compromising sexual function*1,2. Patients also experienced a significant improvement in quality of life. Over 100,000 men have been treated with the UroLift System in the U.S. Most common adverse events reported include hematuria, dysuria, micturition urgency, pelvic pain, and urge incontinence. Most symptoms were mild to moderate in severity and resolved within two to four weeks after the procedure. The Prostatic Urethral Lift procedure using the UroLift System is recommended for the treatment of BPH in both the American Urological Association and European Association of Urology clinical guidelines.
