Chicago Faucets’ Touchless are Bluetooth® Enabled with CF Connect App to Simplify Water Management

According to Greg Hunt, Chicago Faucets product manager, “Building operators can manage flushing and identify crucial faucets with the CF Connect app. CF Connect provides the capability to reduce stagnant water conditions with the flush mode. It allows setting flushing parameters which is a great benefit for healthcare and buildings, offices, schools, and athletic centers that have intermittent closures. This is not only a time saver but a life saver.”

Facilities managers can select from use-based, interval-based and volume-based flushing. Pipe flushing can also be used for longer purges and remediation efforts. The CF Connect app allows options on flushing including number of times, length of time and intervals. In the app’s presettings for user detection, operation and hygiene flush can be saved, named and used to quickly set up the other faucets in a facility.

Select the faucet’s operating mode depending on location and usage:

  • Normal mode – Place hands in front of sensor to activate the faucet.
  • Hygiene Flush mode reduces stagnant water. Select from use-based, interval-based, and volume-based flushing.
  • Pipe Flush mode – Easily set for longer system purges and remediation efforts.
  • Scrub mode – For scrub sinks this setting allows the facility to have the faucet set at a 60, 120, or 180 second run time or can be customized from 1-180 seconds.
  • Metering mode – Set run times to a specific run time.
  • Watersaver mode – Designed to save water. Max run time 3-30 seconds with a 1-5 second cycle delay option.
  • Handwash mode – Designed for handwashing compliance in mind. Wetting time 1-10 seconds. Soaping time 5-60 seconds. Rinse time 5-60 seconds with intervals from 0.2-5 seconds.
  • Volume mode – Designate a set time to run or user defined from 5-45 seconds.
  • Select Cleaning mode to temporarily disable the sensor so the faucet can be cleaned without activation from 1-20 minutes.

The CF Connect app includes a multitude of faucet points to manage: preset faucet settings, download usage logs to email and adjust easily for hygiene flush, detection distance, run time, safety shut-off time and service mode.

Advanced capabilities are available to easily access settings, update firmware, download usage logs, and quickly access key activities on the CF Connect home screen. Of key importance for facilities concerned with maintaining hygienic standards are the flush and operating modes, cleaning, and presettings.

New Treatment Option Offers Hope for Solid Tumor Cancer Patients

The T-cell immunotherapy has demonstrated success in specific blood cancers, like acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and select non-Hodgkin lymphomas, boasting response rates of 50% to exceeding 70% in clinical trials. Notably, CAR-T therapy represents a dynamic frontier in cancer treatment, with ongoing research and evolving clinical outcomes shaping its trajectory.

“In our Cancer Center of Excellence, we offer diverse opportunities for patient participation in cutting-edge clinical trials, contingent on research protocols and medical evaluation,” said Dr. Andres Alvarez, MD, PhD, Director, Oncology Research at Memorial Healthcare System. “Our clinical research focus includes the search for specific HLA-typed cells in solid tumor CAR-T clinical studies, as well as numerous other novel research opportunities. T cells are a type of white blood cell that help the body’s immune system fight disease. In CAR-T cell therapy they are harvested from blood and genetically altered to produce synthetic molecules called chimeric antigen receptors (CARs). In the current study, the modified cells will be used for patients with solid tumors, with the hope that the CARs enable the T cells to recognize and attach to a certain protein in cancer cells and kill them.

The approach has had success in the lab and the research is now being extended to select cancer centers for use on patients that qualify. “Ours is a multi-disciplinary approach that includes physicians, scientists, research specialists, regulatory experts, Memorial’s Office of Human Research, its cancer institute, and the Moffitt Malignant Hematology and Cell Therapy program,” said Alvarez. “It’s a unique collaboration made even more effective by the enhanced technology and research capabilities of the new 122,000 square foot, $125 million dedicated cancer facility we’re opening that will provide additional space for studies and increased access to clinical trials for patients.”

Patients that qualify to participate in the CAR-T study can expect a minimum of six months of research visits, monthly oncology visits, and target treatments. Study qualification, participation, and results will be determined through medical oncologist evaluation.

Targeting certain molecular interactions could yield new strategies for treating prostate cancer

Molecular activity of androgen receptors could hold key to new therapeutic approaches to prostate cancer, according to research led by Mays Cancer Center of The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

SAN ANTONIO, Oct. 20, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — Research led by Mays Cancer Center at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio) has discovered that altering certain molecular interactions could yield new strategies for treating prostate cancer and related diseases.

The study focuses on androgen receptors (AR), which are protein molecules that help direct the development of male sexual characteristics, essentially by turning genes on or off as necessary.

The researchers determined that an optimum level of androgen receptor “multivalent interactions” likely is required for proper function. Multivalent interactions involve a simultaneous binding of multiple molecules on the same regulatory chromatin sites to control gene expression. (Chromatin refers to a mixture of DNA and proteins that form the chromosomes found in cells.) The scientists also concluded that alterations of these interactions might underlie the cause and development of disease.

“Our results provide molecular insights for potential therapeutic strategies to treat prostate cancer and other AR-involved diseases by targeting AR multivalent interactions,” said Zhijie “Jason” Liu, PhD, associate professor and CPRIT Scholar in Cancer Research with Mays Cancer Center and the Institute of Biotechnology of the Department of Molecular Medicine at UT Health San Antonio.

He is lead author of the article titled, “Hormone-induced enhancer assembly requires an optimal level of hormone receptor multivalent interactions,” published Sept. 21 in Molecular Cell, a journal of research in molecular biology. Other researchers are from the Sam and Ann Barshop Institute for Longevity and Aging Studies at UT Health San Antonio; the California Institute of Technology; and the Duke Cancer Institute at Duke University.

They observed that androgen receptors form local high-concentration “condensates” – membrane-less subunits that carry out specialized cell functions – through protein-clustering interactions. These are driven by certain multivalent interactions in response to androgen hormone stimulation.

The researchers determined that disturbing those condensates impairs androgen receptor function in the assembly of “enhancers,” referring to DNA sequences that activate transcription independently.

“Our work using AR as an example provides evidence for the importance of maintaining precise levels of multivalent interactions to achieve beneficial hormone-induced enhancer assembly events,” Liu said. “Collectively, our results suggest that disruption of the fine-tuned AR protein multivalent interactions might underlie AR-related human pathologies.

“AR multivalent interactions,” he concluded, “could be pharmacologically targeted to treat prostate cancer and other AR-involved diseases.”

The Healthy Fall Festival is a community celebration designed to kick off the holiday season with an abundance of gratitude and thanksgiving. Included will be free immunizations, vaccines and flu shots, health education sessions, mammograms and breast health screenings, diabetes testing, and community resources and information. There will also be a Healthy Bag Giveaway, raffles and a variety of fresh fruit and produce with a frozen turkey (while supplies last), among other nutritious essentials, for each family.

Since then, transcosmos has been increasing its presence in the prefecture, opening as many as 9 centers including its own building MCM Center Naha located in Omoromachi, Naha city which opened in March 2006. Today, transcosmos offers a diverse range of services including contact centers, digital marketing, and business process outsourcing (BPO). transcosmos plans to invite approximately 400 employees to the tree-planting project scheduled on Saturday, December 9, 2023.

transcosmos is a certified Okinawa SDGs Partner Company and has been carrying out various initiatives to serve the community. In July 2007, transcosmos made a donation to help rebuild Okinawa’s Shuri Castle that had burned down, and donated acrylic sheets as preventive measures against the novel coronavirus during the pandemic in May 2022. As a company committed to local communities, transcosmos will continue to contribute to the development of Okinawa prefecture.
