In light of newly announced IRS contribution limits, Health-E Commerce® shares five little-known facts about flexible spending accounts

FSA Store® sheds light on 2024 Internal Revenue Service contribution limits for flexible spending accounts and what consumers need to know

DALLAS, Nov. 10, 2023 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — More than 35 million Americans who are enrolled in flexible spending accounts (FSAs) will be able to contribute more money to these tax-advantaged accounts in 2024, based on the newly announced contribution limit from the Internal Revenue Service. In light of the increase, Health-E Commerce®, parent brand to FSAstore.com® – the first and leading online store dedicated to exclusively selling FSA-eligible products – is educating account holders on the following little-known facts that will help them make the most of their FSA in the coming year.

An FSA is a tax-advantaged account that consumers can enroll in through their employer-sponsored benefits program. Employees can contribute to the account through pre-tax payroll contributions and any employer contributions are also tax favored. This reduces the employee’s taxable income and helps them pay for a wide range of expenses. FSA-eligible expenses are determined by the Internal Revenue Service.

About the new limit: According to the IRS (https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-drop/rp-23-34.pdf), the limit for FSA employee contributions will increase from $3,050 in 2023 to $3,200 in 2024. In addition to the contribution limit increase, the amount of unused FSA funds that an employer may allow employees to carry over from year to year will also increase. The carryover amount will increase from $610 in 2023 to $640 in 2024. The FSA carryover feature is optional for employers. Account holders should check with their benefits department to confirm if this option is available to them.

Five surprising facts about FSA contributions:

  1.  The $3,200 limit for 2024 applies on a per FSA account basis. If an account holder switches jobs mid-year, they can elect to contribute the full amount at their new employer, regardless of the amount of claims they had incurred at their previous employer.
  2. There is only one FSA contribution limit that applies to both individuals and families. This differs from a health savings account (HSA) where there is a separate limit for health plan participation as an individual vs. two-person/family.
  3. If two spouses each have access to their own FSA through their respective employers, they could each elect the maximum of $3,200 for a combined household set-aside of $6,400.
  4. The FSA limit does not include the optional carryover amount. For example, if an employer offers a carryover of up to $610 in 2023, an account holder could have a balance of $3,810 in their FSA in 2024 ($3,200 2024 FSA max + $610 2023 FSA carryover).
  5. The FSA contribution limits apply only to pre-tax employee contributions. Employers may contribute to an employee’s FSA in excess of the employee contribution maximum.

“By increasing the FSA contribution limits to keep pace with inflation, the Internal Revenue Service is enabling individuals and families to help protect their health, wellness, and financial wellbeing as prices continue to increase in all aspects of our lives,” said Rachel Rouleau, chief compliance officer for Health-E Commerce. “By sharing these little-known facts about FSA contributions, we hope to educate consumers about the benefits of enrolling in an FSA and the potential for these accounts to help them save money and reduce their taxable income.”

FSA Store offers a free, comprehensive eligibility list that makes it easy to map spending for the remainder of the year to ensure consumers don’t leave any tax-free funds on the table due to a missed deadline. This list can be used to personalize the FSA experience so FSA users can shop for everyday healthcare needs by product, category, lifestyle, or health condition.

Caring Transitions of Central St. Louis Offers Full-Serve Solution for Senior Relocation

The DeClues combine their extensive background in real estate investment with a heartfelt mission to assist seniors in managing life’s transitions. “Take care of those that took care of us” is their guiding mission. They bring over 20 years of experience and a personal touch to their work, stemming from their own experiences with family estate challenges.

“Throughout our careers, we’ve met many seniors burdened by a lifetime of possessions that complicate their ability to move and live comfortably. We’re here to alleviate that stress,” Bob DeClue states. “Our work is more than a service—it’s a promise to provide care and dignity during these pivotal moments.”

The DeClues recognized the necessity of a service like Caring Transitions in the area, as their personal journey with Bob’s parents’ estate was a three-year, daunting journey of preparing a home for sale and handling belongings. Mary also spent years in social work, where she saw patients enter the hospital but not be capable of returning to living independently at home.

“We personally understand the emotional weight of transitioning a family member’s home,” says Mary DeClue. “Having worked in social work, I’ve seen the challenges families face when a loved one can’t return home from the hospital. We’re here now to help families navigate these challenging transitions with ease and respect.”

Caring Transitions of Central St. Louis serves Kirkwood, Sunset Hills, Des Peres, Crestwood, Rock Hill, Webster Groves, Town and Country, Frontenac, Ladue, Creve Coeur, and Maryland Heights. Caring Transitions currently has more than 300 franchise locations serving families across the country.

“The DeClues will make a huge impact on the community by providing top-tier transition services from decluttering a room to helping families move their loved ones into a senior community,” said Ray Fabik, President of Caring Transitions. “Bob and Mary’s real estate investment experience and the family’s passion to serve their community make them perfect franchise owners. The St. Louis community is in great hands with the DeClues.”

Over 65% of Americans say they are comfortable providing feedback to their healthcare provider but believe their feedback does not lead to any change

  • People reflect higher levels of trust in healthcare settings where they are more likely to know or have chosen the providers, such as primary care providers or specialists, than in hospitals or emergency/urgent care settings.•    People reflect higher levels of trust in healthcare settings where they are more likely to know or have chosen the providers, such as primary care providers or specialists, than in hospitals or emergency/urgent care settings.
  • People place greater importance on the relationship they have with their provider than on getting care when they need it, seeing the interactions they have with a doctor as more of a relationship than a transaction.
  • People want to provide feedback immediately, a majority within 24 hours, while they also prefer to provide feedback online. Yet, two-thirds of people feel their feedback has not led to any change.

“This issue of pulse reinforces that trust remains important to the US healthcare consumer. This is reinforced by the fact they see their healthcare interactions as relationships more than transactions,” said Jason A. Wolf, PhD, CPXP, President & CEO, The Beryl Institute. “They are also telling us they want to help make healthcare better by providing feedback but are not confident their voices are heard or their input acted on. Ultimately, they are telling us we still have work to do. Our hope is this data helps us think about where we can start in elevating our experience efforts in the US healthcare system.”

The convenient availability of high-quality food options is a big part of that experience.”

Grand Opening Event

Bucks County native and celebrity chef Nick Liberato, co-founder and executive chef at the Borscht Belt, will be present at the grand opening event. After building a successful catering career in Los Angeles and appearing on several food-themed television shows, Liberato returned home to Bucks County in 2020 to form a hospitality group that launched the original Borscht Belt location in Stockton, N.J., in June 2021. The Borscht Belt moved to its current location in Newtown in May 2023.

“At The Borscht Belt Delicatessen, we’re excited to join forces with St. Mary Medical Center, bringing some favorites from our menu to their cafeteria,” Liberato says. “We’re here to provide the hospital with the comfort that great food provides.”

About The Borscht Belt Delicatessen

The Borscht Belt Delicatessen concept launched from 618 Hospitality Group’s reaction to the communal cry in 2020 for the longing of missed family, culture and authentic food that ties us all together. Instantly, the “Shangri-la” days of the Borscht Belt era came to mind as a source of reference for founders celebrity chef Nick Liberato and Mike Dalewitz. Extensive research, passion and development ensued for an exciting 2021 inaugural launch in Stockton, N.J. The Borscht Belt’s Stockton location closed in Winter 2023 in preparation for a newer, bigger and bolder iteration of The Borscht Belt in Newtown, Pa., which opened in Spring 2023 and is now franchising. The Borscht Belt delivers a heightened culinary experience featuring the best of the NYC delicatessen, bagels, appetizing and baked goods. Like the Borscht Belt of the Catskills, laughter and music of the 50s and 60s flourishes amongst a place patrons frequent to find comfort and nourishment. With an array of take-out, dine-in and large-format catering options, this reimagined delicatessen salutes a bygone period that has long needed a home to remind us how food, family and friends were once served and how they can be again. Always offering a taste of the past, yet delivered with a contemporary gourmet twist, food connoisseurs across the foodie spectrum with wallets of all sizes relish and celebrate.
