AuntMinnieEurope.com Launches Board Review for Radiologists in Europe, Hits Growth Milestones

AuntMinnieEurope.com logo

These milestones indicate the progress AuntMinnieEurope.com has made in delivering its unique mix of news and educational content to European radiology professionals.

Radiology portal AuntMinnieEurope.com has launched Board Review, a new online interactive educational section that enables European radiologists to prepare for their board certification exams. At the same time, the site reported that 30,000 unique members were active in the past year, and it also recorded over 1 million page views a month for the first time.

Board Review consists of dozens of questions on important radiology topics that are designed to test an applicant’s knowledge of radiology. Questions include relevant medical images, clinical histories, and discussion of findings.

Board Review was developed in cooperation with the European Board of Radiology (EBR) and is designed to help European radiologists prepare for the European Diploma in Radiology (EDiR), an international diploma issued by the EBR that certifies a radiologist to have the knowledge and competence in compliance with accepted standards.

Board Review content is specifically based on questions in the EDiR certifying exam, giving radiology trainees the most realistic test preparation experience.

“Revising for exams is incredibly tough these days for busy, young working doctors, so we wanted to do our bit to help them prepare in a practical way,” said Philip Ward, editor in chief of AuntMinnieEurope.com. “We’re very proud to link up with the EBR on this new project.”

To date, over 4,500 candidates from all over the world have taken the EDiR examination since its inception in 2011, with a pass rate of 66%, according to Prof. Laura Oleaga Zufiría, PhD, scientific director of EDiR. Over 900 candidates will be taking the EDiR examination in 2020 in 10 different cities: Vienna, Paris, Warsaw, Barcelona, Örebro, Ankara, Islamabad, Cairo, Moscow, and New Delhi.

“EDiR is the perfect way for radiologists to consolidate the knowledge gained during their training. Especially for young radiologists, preparing for the EDiR not only means taking a step further in their professional careers but also receiving a boost of self-confidence,” Oleaga said. “We are very happy that AuntMinnieEurope.com is participating in this process and to help candidates obtain this certificate of excellence.”

AuntMinnieEurope’s Board Review can be found at http://boardreview.auntminnieeurope.com.

In addition to Board Review, AuntMinnieEurope.com announced that for the first time, over 30,000 unique radiology professionals have been active on the site in the past year. And finally, February 2020 was the first full month in which page views for AuntMinnieEurope.com exceeded 1 million on a 30-day basis.

“These milestones indicate the progress AuntMinnieEurope.com has made in delivering its unique mix of news and educational content to European radiology professionals,” said Craig Overpeck, CEO of Science and Medicine Group. “We are gratified at the reception that the site has received and are looking forward to continued success with our new Board Review feature.”

Ideal Implant CEO Featured at IMCAS Innovation Shark Tank 2020

IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implant Patented Design

After only five years on the consumer market, the IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant is proving to be a disruptive technology, with strong clinical data that better addresses women’s concerns.

Ideal Implant Incorporated Founder and CEO, Robert S Hamas, MD, was invited to present the latest breast implant technology at the IMCAS Innovation Shark Tank 2020 in Paris, France in January. The international conference featured start-ups and new innovations in the dermatology, plastic surgery, and aesthetic science industries that promise to revolutionize medical practices in their fields.

“After only five years on the consumer market, the IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implant is proving to be a disruptive technology, with strong clinical data that better addresses women’s concerns,” Dr. Hamas explained to attendees. “It’s patented, unique internal structure offers women the natural feel and look of silicone gel implants, yet a woman can look in the mirror and know her implants are intact, while having the peace of mind of only saline inside. The design has captured the benefits of other types of implants without their drawbacks.”

Recent market studies show that peace of mind is increasingly a factor when women choose a breast implant. As the IDEAL IMPLANT eight-year clinical trial data demonstrated significantly lower rates of complications such as rupture and capsular contracture over silicone gel implants, while allowing for instant rupture detection without the MRIs required with silicone gel implants, women are pressuring surgeons to offer the new technology. As a result, the company is investing in expanded production facilities to meet the overwhelming demand the IDEAL IMPLANT design has seen since becoming available in 2015.

“We received many outstanding applications and had the very difficult mission of selecting the 15 start-ups that would pitch their innovations live to the jury and audience of high profile venture-capitals, industry leaders and KOL physicians,” explained an IMCAS spokesperson. “Among the submissions, Ideal Implant was clearly a very interesting innovation with the potential to disrupt its industry, and we were glad to have them take part in this Innovation Shark Tank.”

About Ideal Implant

Ideal Implant Incorporated, founded in 2006, is privately held and based in Dallas, TX. The company has developed the IDEAL IMPLANT, designed the manufacturing processes including proprietary robotic shell fabrication technology, conducted a large US clinical trial, and received PMA approval from FDA and Health Canada in 2014. The marketing strategy has been focused on female consumers, who make the ultimate decision on their choice of implant. Growth in consumer demand has been rapid since commercial launch in 2015 – the IDEAL IMPLANT brand has become well recognized in the plastic surgery market, and plans are underway for expansion of manufacturing capacity to meet the growing demand. Avoid Rescue Studies, Reduce Costs and Timelines & Accelerate Clinical Operations with Metrics, Upcoming Webinar Hosted by Xtalks

Xtalks Life Science Webinars

By introducing efficient resource allocation and parallelization of operational activities, sponsors can significantly compress operational timelines, improve downstream quality and regulatory compliance, while speeding entry to market.

Industry experts from Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research, ClinScape and Oracle Health Sciences will discuss:

  • The need to make smarter decisions on insights derived from clinical trial data
  • The identification of red flags and the importance of real-time metrics to drive timely interventions
  • The need for industry benchmarking across trials and its inherent challenges
  • How metrics provide the foundation for process optimization and play a key role in risk management and quality assessment planning
  • Moving beyond benchmarking to gamification, efficient resource allocation and predictive analytics or forecasting

You can’t manage what you don’t measure. Having technology which can automate or assist in the timely monitoring of trials is a huge improvement over the status quo of manual methods such as spreadsheets, which are cumbersome and erroneous, not to mention only provide a dated snapshot of trial performance.

Granular real-time metrics provide operational insights that enable sponsors to take control of their studies by being proactive instead of reactive. Sponsors should focus their resources on bottlenecks and processes ripe for optimization to drive competitive performance and operational excellence. By introducing efficient resource allocation and parallelization of operational activities, sponsors can significantly compress operational timelines, improve downstream quality and regulatory compliance, while speeding entry to market.

Advanced Hand-to-Shoulder Specialist in Conway, Myrtle Beach Offers 5 Tips

“From gardening to roof repair, spring projects can be fun and rewarding to take on yourself, but they come with some safety risks,” says Dr. Gayton. “To help our community avoid hand and upper extremity injuries this season, I wanted to share a list of guidelines for completing projects safely.”

Board-certified orthopedic surgeon and fellowship-trained hand and upper extremity specialist J. Christopher Gayton, M.D., offers expert safety guidelines for adults and families to follow while undertaking any project this season. Patients in need of specialized hand care are encouraged to call (843) 353-3460 to be seen by Dr. Gayton at OrthoSC in Conway at 2376 Cypress Circle, Suite 300.

“Every year, there are multitudes of minor and serious hand, finger and wrist injuries from home projects. There is also potential for shoulder and elbow injuries, especially when working from a higher structure,” says Dr. Gayton. “From gardening to roof repair, spring projects can be fun and rewarding to take on yourself, but they also come with some safety risks.

“Minor injuries like wrist sprains as well as serious injuries like fractures, tendon tearing and amputations are all potential risks for those who undertake do-it-yourself jobs inside and outside the home,” adds Dr. Gayton. “To help our community avoid hand and upper extremity injuries, I wanted to share a list of guidelines for completing projects safely.”

Follow these safety tips to help avoid injuries when taking on a project:

1. Use the proper tools, properly: Before you start a project, make sure you know how to use and care for your tools. Even hammering improperly can mean fractures in the hand or broken fingers. Sharp objects should be kept away from children.

  • Gardening, landscaping, or completing big projects long-term without the right tools, proper form and gloves can mean blisters, scrapes and even overuse injuries. These include tendinitis (tendonitis) in the shoulder, wrist and elbow as well as nerve irritation.

2. Power tools are powerfully dangerous: Proper use and care for tools is even more important with power tools. Be sure you know exactly how to operate a machine before you use it to reduce your risk of injury. Do not touch drill bits or blades on a power saw, weed whacker or lawn mower before it’s turned completely off.

  • Stay alert while operating any motorized device—all are a major hazard and can lead to hand trauma injuries, such as fully or partially torn ligaments and tendons and nerve damage that leads to loss of muscle control. Finger amputations that require replantation are also common. Use a push stick when getting items through a power saw, and keep your hand away from a moving blade.

3. Keep your worksite clear: Make sure your working area or work surface is stable, clean and dry in a well-lit place. Any tool you are not using should be placed in a safe location out of your way so you are less likely to trip. Wrist sprains are common with falls, and without tools and objects around the ground or floor, your risk of serious injury with a fall is lower.

4. Practice ladder safety: When using a ladder, be sure to find a flat surface. Keep the weight centered and do not overextend yourself beyond your reach. Make sure someone is holding the ladder. If you fall on your hand, elbow or shoulder, you’ll likely have a serious fracture or multiple fractures in addition to an elbow or shoulder dislocation and soft tissue damage, like a rotator cuff tear. Many of these injuries would require surgical intervention, such as fracture fixation, wrist fusion, rotator cuff repair and possibly elbow or shoulder replacement.

5. Give yourself a break: Taking breaks and varying your tasks can help prevent acute injuries, such as strains in your forearm and upper arm muscles, as well as chronic conditions, such as tendinitis or carpal tunnel syndrome. Improper tool use can also cause cuts and more severe tendon injuries in the forearm or hand, leading to an inability to move a finger, thumb or wrist with your own power.

“If you sustain an injury while working with tools or doing heavy lifting and you feel any numbness, intense pain or have any loss of movement in your hand, fingers or arm, seek medical attention,” says Dr. Gayton. “Serious injuries to your hand, wrist, elbow, forearm or shoulder should be seen by a specialist as soon as possible. As a hand and upper extremity specialist, I understand the intricacy of the shoulder, arm and hand, so I always work with my patients to offer them the best possible outlook for retaining strength and function.”

Specializing in injuries, conditions and treatments of the hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder, Dr. Gayton offers the latest care options, including elbow arthroscopy, wrist arthroscopy, shoulder arthroscopy, open and endoscopic carpal tunnel release and total shoulder replacement. He is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and Dr. Gayton is fellowship-trained in hand and upper extremity surgery through Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He sees patients at OrthoSC in Conway and offers surgical care in Conway at the Conway Medical Center and in Myrtle Beach at the Carolina Bone & Joint Surgery Center.

The ultimate guide to 3D Lipo london fat freezing and non invasive aesthetic treatments 2020

Fat Freezing / Cryolipolysis

Can positive results really be achieved with non invasive treatments

If you are reading this article then there is no doubt that you have thought about or considered a non invasive body or face treatment or medical procedure at some point in your life or maybe just have a general interest in this topic, anyway lets begin, Vanity / looking good isn’t anything new but in today’s society is seems more in demand whether it be for weight loss by trying out something like fat freezing / Cryolipolysis which are non invasive treatments or just to tone up and tighten skin on a certain area of your body or face with something like HIFU, Radio frequency and other similar procedures, maybe you would like to get rid of cellulite there are many procedures around also full non-invasive face lifts with treatments again like HIFU or Radio Frequency to tighten the skin and make you look younger.

Long before this type of technology was available people would only have the option of going under the knife for plastic surgery which involved more complex procedures and downtime, Bruising and the possibility of scars which is not something anyone would like if they are trying to tweak or improve their looks in a way they are happy with and avoid anything that could jeopardize how they look, not to say that this would happen but each individuals body responds in a different way to procedures and treatments what effects one person may not effect another just like anything in life you cannot be sure but these are the risks people take in life to look good.

Many people have gone under the knife and achieved amazing results but we will only really hear about some celebrities who have had this done as i would imagine most would like to keep this a secret, surgery is also a lot more costly so affordability is then a issue for a lot of people thinking about something like this, if it is affordable for someone then it is certainly a option if they are aware and happy with the risks involved downtime etc, not everyone can just take time off work until they have healed in reality, so this is probably a option for the ones of us who are in a better financial position and can really afford a surgical procedure.

Here is a example of going under the knife for a facelift depending on what they are having done it could cost a minimum of a few thousand pounds for what some people call a mini facelift to well over £10,000 for a more extensive facelift this can also include a necklift and i would not like to think how much celebrities pay for the best top end plastic surgeons, but that really depends on where you would decide to get a medical procedure like this done, in regards to the price if you were looking at somewhere like Harley Street in London which is world renowned then you would expect it to be more costly compared to somewhere less renowned, i guess you would choose accordingly to what is affordable for you.

This type of procedure could take between 2-5 hours and is normally safe, recovery normally takes around 2 weeks, and vigorous activity can resume after 4 weeks but the risks and complications could involve:

  • Scarring
  • Loss of hair around the incision site (uncommon)
  • Numbness, this should improve
  • Widening or thickening of a scar
  • Hematoma
  • Bruising
  • Bleeding
  • Infection

Damage to the facial nerves controlling muscles, if having a facelift

Not to say that non invasive procedures don’t carry some risks but there are definitely greater risks involved when going under the knife compared to non-invasive methods like Fat freezing / Cryolipolysis or any of the other treatments that do not involve surgery.

So the price compared to lets say a HIFU non surgical face lift is huge with a HIFU face lift costing around £1500 again depending on where you have choose to have this done but on average, and you can see that non invasive treatments are becoming more and more popular.

Fat Freezing / Cryolipolysis

Also please note when i say Fat freezing, Cryolipolsis or Cool Sculpting all of these treatments freeze fat but some people say Fat freezing others call it Cryolipolysis which is more of a medical term i guess you could say and Cool Sculpting is a brand name of a company who’s machines can also freeze fat, it can be a little confusing sometimes when you first read about these types of treatments and can get you thinking are these all the same or totally different i hope this clarifies it for you.

This type of non invasive treatment is used as a fat loss procedure that can help you get rid of unwanted fat in a chosen area of the body, Fat freezing / Cryolipolysis can also be used on the chin area, i would say that the most popular areas for fat freezing would be the stomach and love handles but in general these are the areas that the majority of people who want to get rid of fat from so its no surprise that they are the most popular when it comes to any type of toning or fat loss procedure regardless of what type of procedure is chosen.

So the Fat freezing / Cryolipolysis treatment if you have not had this treatment and want to know what to expect well i can say i have had this procedure before once some people find it a little discomforting for the first couple of minutes but i thought it was absolutely fine as i mentioned earlier we are all different and i must say i was pleased with the results that i achieved from just one treatment.

So firstly you will have a sit down and have the consultation form to fill with the the person performing the treatment to see if you are suitable for the treatment, if you are a suitable candidate then you can continue to have this Fat freezing treatment and you will be asked what areas are you main concern so they can be focused on during your treatment, i will list the steps below :

1. A area is selected lets say stomach to make it easy

2. A membrane is placed over the area to stop frostbite, the membrane looks something like a baby wipe that’s the only way i can describe it.

3. The head from the Fat freezing / Cryolipolysis machine is placed on the chosen area (Stomach)

4. Then is is turned on at which point you will feel a vacuum which raises your stomach up into the head so it can touch the freezing plates either side of the head.

5. This is then left on for about 1 hour on the chosen area

6. Then the Fat freezing head is removed and the area is massaged for a couple of minutes to get the blood flow back in the area, when the head is removed the area does feel numb and of course very cold but this is totally normal and not really uncomfortable but for some it might be for a couple of minutes.

7. You can get back to whatever you had planned in your day as there is no downtime at all, the only thing is to avoid alcohol before and after treatment for a day or two.

After your Fat freezing / Cryolipolysis treatment it can take 3 to 4 months to see the best results as the fat cells are killed during treatment and then they will breakdown and be dispersed naturally though the body in our urine.

The results i have seen are positive and i have read many many great reviews on this, from my personal experience i could noticeably see some great results but if you want to keep you results you will need to eat healthy and exercise is also recommended, so if you over eat and don’t exercise do not expect to keep results its the same as anything in excess.

Treatment recommendations vary but 3 treatment on a particular area normally show good results.

Areas that can be treated :

Stomach, Love Handles, Outer / Inner Thighs, Back, Arms, Lower Bottom, Chest (Male only), Chin

Possible but very rare side effects

Redness, Bruising, Blistering, Numbness, Frostbite

Cavitation

Again this is another fat loss treatment, Cavitation this is a Ultrasound treatment which has been known to reap great results in terms of weight loss in comparison to Fat freezing i would go with the Fat freezing i think it has better results for weight loss but they both do work but strangely enough in the opposite direction when i say this i mean where as one freezes a area to achieve weight loss Cavitation heats up the chosen area to achieve fat loss, so they can both help you loose fat but with different types of technology.

With Cavitation if you are curious about the procedure i will break it down for you below this is quite a simple treatment and also takes less time than fat freezing but requires more treatments to achieve results in general, and as before a consultation form will need to be filled out to make sure that you are a suitable candidate for a Cavitation treatment:

1. A area is selected again lets go with stomach again

2. Then plenty of gel is applied to that area

3. The Cavitation head is chosen from the machine which is quite large with four silver circles on it

4. Then for 30 – 40mins the head is moved in a circular motion on the area

The fat cells are broken down during your Cavitation treatment and then naturally leave your body.

Treatment recommendations vary but 6 – 12 treatments are recommended for best results

Areas that can be treated:

  • Stomach, Love Handles, Outer / Inner/Outer Thighs, Back, Arms, Lower Bottom
  • Possible but very rare side effects
  • Mild bruising, temporary skin sensitivity

Who can and cannot have the treatment Cavitation and Fat freezing:

  • Pregnant women, recent pregnancy or breast feeding
  • Heart condition including pacemaker
  • Thrombosis or Thrombophlebitis
  • Anticoagulant medication
  • History of Cancer
  • Metal prosthesis or implants (area specific)
  • Diabetes
  • Epilepsy
  • Auto Immune Conditions
  • Inflammation or infection in the treatment area
  • Transplant surgery
  • Skin thinning medication
  • Excess alcohol
  • Water retention
  • Raynauds

Laser Lipo

This treatment empties out fat cells and then shrinks them down which again is pretty much the same in terms of how the fat cells leave the body, a few heads can be placed over the stomach which have laser diodes in them and they penetrate the skin down to the fat cells and break them down once the fat cell is punctured it is then flushed out through your body naturally via the lymphatic system so again you would urinate it out of your body, i guess saying it goes out of your body through the lymphatic system sounds nicer than saying it is urinated out, this procedure lasts about 20 minutes for each treatment.

It is also stated that laser lipo is not suitable if you would like extensive weight loss and a ideal candidate should not be heavily over weight and also be healthy with good skin elasticity.

For all treatments a consultation form will need to be completed just like before this is for the customers safety

Treatment recommendations vary 6-8 treatments are recommended

Areas that can be treated:

  • Abdomen
  • Waistline
  • Under the chin
  • Arms
  • Thighs

Possible but very rare side effects:

infection, numbness in the area treated, skin necrosis, dimpling, , scarring, discoloration, lumpiness, sagging of the skin

Final thoughts

All of the non invasive treatments that have been discussed above have the same goal in mind to get rid of unwanted fat so anyone looking to do so should definitely consider a non invasive treatment because it seems as though they do work from countless reviews i have read to pictures of before and after treatments i have seen which show that some of the results are really significant with proof that positive results can be achieved, and there are also many articles i have come across where celebrities have had non invasive treatments also like HIFU face lifts and body treatments for fat reduction like Fat freezing / Cryolipolysis and many others non invasive treatments that are available and they also have had some really good results from what i have seen, so i think its worth giving it a try.

I still think that fat freezing comes out on top for better results compared to cavitation to be honest i do not find that laser lipo is as popular as the other two but in the end its up to you to make the final decision on which treatment you would choose or if you would try any of these at all or would you opt to go under the knife.

It has been a pleasure writing this article, I will get in to non invasive procedures for the face in part two of this blog at a later stage so please look out for it and thank you for taking the time to read this i hope it has been informative and has answered some of your questions in regards to these types of non invasive treatments.
