Miami Healthcare Advertising Agency Maintains Winning Streak In National Competition

The Healthcare Advertising Awards gives us a platform to demonstrate our expertise to the world.

The Weinbach Group, a nationally recognized healthcare marketing firm, scored multiple wins in the 37th Annual Healthcare Advertising Awards, the largest healthcare advertising awards competition in the country. The contest’s esteemed panel of healthcare marketing specialists reviewed each entry for creativity, effectiveness, design quality, and overall impact; and as in years past, the competition in each category was fierce – attracting more than 4,000 entries from hundreds of ad agencies and in-house marketing departments for healthcare enterprises.

This year, the healthcare advertising agency added nine more wins to its collection of more than 100 awards, including two gold awards: one for its brand launch of the prescription drug Xepi and one on behalf of Physicians Dialysis, a national network of dialysis clinics. It also won awards for entries submitted for other healthcare clients, including Genuine Health Group, the Insurance Trust for Delta Retirees, and The Renfrew Center for Eating Disorders. The Miami ad agency won for entries in multiple categories from direct mail and brochures, to social media campaigns.

“Our creative team of copywriters, art directors, and programmers bring unequaled healthcare marketing expertise to the table,” said Daniel Weinbach, president and CEO of The Weinbach Group. “When you’ve worked with such a broad range of healthcare organizations, and you have such a thorough understanding of the industry, as our firm does, you’re able to develop creative output that stands head and shoulders above other work. And the Healthcare Advertising Awards gives us a platform to demonstrate that expertise to the world.”

The Weinbach Group, which is in its fourth decade of business, recently began working with MAXhealth, a network of primary care medical centers in multiple communities on Florida’s west coast. MAXhealth selected The Weinbach Group, in part, for its award-winning work, as well as for its overall approach to medical advertising. Already, the firm has demonstrated success helping MAXhealth quickly develop a communications strategy to migrate thousands of patients to its telehealth platform following the COVID-19 outbreak.

The Healthcare Advertising Awards are sponsored by Healthcare Marketing Report, which covers all aspects of healthcare marketing, advertising, and strategic business development. The contest, in its 37th year, attracted 4,200 entries from agencies nationwide. In addition to gold, silver, and bronze awards, judges awarded a small panel of entries “Best In Show.”

Inbox Health National Survey of medical billers reveals key challenges and investments resulting from the coronavirus pandemic

Medical billers that support independent medical practices have a front-row seat to the industry’s unprecedented financial struggle due to the coronavirus pandemic. In a new survey by Inbox Health, medical billers revealed that the lower revenues from the elimination of elective procedures and routine care has been amplified beyond the doctor’s office to pose a serious threat to industries that support them.

Inbox Health conducted a national survey of medical billers, with responses from billers that together support approximately 1200 independent medical practices in the US. The survey found that the majority of respondents found COVID-19 to be a threat to their business. 53% of independent medical billers reported that COVID-19 has posed a serious threat to their business, while 30% saw it as a minor threat. 8% view the pandemic as no threat at all, and 9% not sure of its impact at the time of the survey.

This data aligns with the sentiment of independent medical practices who have been disportionately and most directly affected by the coronavirus pandemic. Larger medical billers are not immune from the downstream effects of COVID-19, as billers that represent more than 100 practices anticipate a reduction in patient collections between 10-25%.

Inbox Health surveyed medical billers across the United States, with responses from medical billers in each region including the Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest and West. Survey respondents provide support across 22 different medical specialties representing broad coverage of the total medical community.

Respondents were taking, or planning to take, a variety of steps to prepare for the effects of the pandemic, with the vast majority (85%) increasing support for telehealth and 50% reducing overhead costs. A large number (37%) were automating new processes and workflows, and almost as many were creating new patient payment plans (33%) and implementing new remote payment options (28%). Only 16% of respondents planned to suspend payment requirements for the duration of the crisis.

“As practices are forced to cut costs to survive, they are increasingly examining which costs can be eliminated or reduced,” said Amy Koon, CEO of Keystone Medical Management. “As a billing company, we strive to remain a critical partner by ensuring expertise in implementing telehealth, creative and sustainable payment options for patients, and providing reliable, yet flexible, communication and workflows to support the practice through a rapidly shifting landscape of revenue challenges.”

“Medical billers are resilient.” said Inbox Health CEO Blake Walker. “The current pandemic is disportanetly affecting independent practices and the medical billers that support them. This survey helps us understand the degree of the threat, the steps billers are taking to maintain operations in the face of ongoing business constraints presented by COVID-19, and how we can help.”

Mandelbaum Salsburg P.C. Secures Dismissal for Vedat Obuz, MD

Dr. Vedat Obuz

Mohamed Nabulsi, Esq, Co-Chair of Mandelbaum Salsburg P.C. Healthcare Practice, announced that Case No. 2:19-mj-06677-JAD-1 has been voluntarily dismissed by the United States District Court of New Jersey against internist Dr. Vedat Obuz (http://www.drobuz.com/) of Trenton, NJ.

Since being charged in 2019, Dr. Obuz maintained that at no point did he violate the law. To prove his innocence, Dr. Obuz’s attorneys Mohamed Nabulsi, Esq., Damian Conforti, Esq. and Ronen Yair, Esq., of Mandelbaum Salsburg P.C. (http://www.lawfirm.ms/), mounted a vigorous defense that lasted several months. This entailed reviewing and analyzing hundreds of medical records and corresponding claims, analyzing his practice’s billing procedures, applicable coding and billing laws, regulations and guidelines, and presenting reports of the findings, as well as other exculpatory evidence, to the government that demonstrated that at no time did his practice engage in any criminal wrongdoing.

Shortly thereafter, the government voluntarily dismissed its case against Dr. Obuz, pre-indictment, without the need for a trial.

Despite the devastating impact of the charges, Dr. Obuz, a veteran medical provider of Turkish origin, tenaciously defended his character, reputation, professional standing and, more importantly, his ability to continue to treat his patients. Obuz, whose practice is located in Trenton and Delran, draws patients from medically underserved areas, explains that, “no emotional or material cost is too high to preserve the sacrosanct relationship between the physician and their patient.”

“Nothing is more gratifying to a lawyer than the knowledge that, through their representation and efforts, their client was vindicated of the charges against them. In a world where being a healthcare provider inherently carries a disproportionately higher risk of scrutiny/prosecution, Dr. Obuz’s victory should serve as reminder to the medical community that challenging a criminal prosecution, even when facing the most talented prosecutors, is not an unachievable feat,” said Nabulsi.

“With the dismissal of the charges, Vedat has proven what many in the community already know about him: Dr. Obuz is a conscientious, law-abiding physician who would stop at no end to advance the interests of his patients,” said Ronen Yair, an Associate in Mandelbaum Salsburg’s Healthcare Practice Group

Shady Grove Fertility (SGF) Resumes Full-Service Fertility Procedures and Treatments throughout Pennsylvania, as of May 11, 2020

SGF Pennsylvania resumes full service fertility treatments May 11.

Patients will notice this is not business as usual, especially from a safety perspective. The safety and wellbeing of our patients and team members has and will remain our top priority.

SGF has been a pioneer in helping people build their families for nearly 3 decades. Today, the practice, which ranks among the largest in the nation, announced it will resume its full suite of comprehensive fertility services and treatments throughout Pennsylvania as of May 10.

“Patients will notice this is not business as usual, especially from a safety perspective. We’ve added prescreening protocols to protect our patients and team members, rearranged our physical spaces to allow for more distancing, staggered as many appointments as possible to reduce the number of people in our locations at any one time, increased disinfection, and much more. The safety and wellbeing of our patients and team members has and will remain our top priority,” shared Isaac E. Sasson, M.D., Ph.D., who sees patients in SGF’s Chesterbrook, PA, location.

SGF Fertility Treatments Now Available in Pennsylvania

Diagnostic testing, ovulation induction (OI), intrauterine insemination (IUI), frozen embryo transfers (FET), in vitro fertilization (IVF), donor egg treatment, and oncofertility preservation have all resumed. Patients seeking fertility consult with an SGF physician may do so using during a secure, private video consult.

“We realize that the desire to have a family, for many, feels innate. Infertility is a time-sensitive diagnosis that tests our resolve in many ways. While we can overcome the diagnosis and help the vast majority of our patients realize their dream of a family, many wait months or even years before coming to us for care. That delay, unfortunately, only reduces chances of success, so we are thrilled we were able to come up with care solutions that put the safety of our patients and team members front and center, all while helping them progress toward their goal of a family,” added Melanie Ochalski, M.D., who sees patients in SGF’s Mechanicsburg and Lancaster, PA, locations.

Leapfrog Group Awards Top Safety Grades to 13 Trinity Health Hospitals

Achieving ‘A’ grades in patient safety takes consistent intentions and unwavering dedication to patients. Congratulations to the clinicians, leaders and staffs of these high-achieving hospitals and thank them for their commitment to the people we serve.

The Leapfrog Group recognized 13 Trinity Health hospitals with “A” grades, the highest score possible for patient safety in its spring 2020 Hospital Safety Grades report.

“Achieving ‘A’ grades in patient safety takes consistent intentions and unwavering dedication to patients,” said Tammy Lundstrom, M.D., J.D., chief medical officer for Trinity Health. “Congratulations to the clinicians, leaders and staffs of these high-achieving hospitals and thank them for their commitment to the people we serve.”

The system’s 13 high-achieving ministries are:

  • Holy Cross Germantown Hospital in Germantown, Maryland
  • Johnson Memorial Medical Center in Stafford Springs, Connecticut
  • Loyola Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park, Illinois
  • Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Illinois
  • Mercy Health Hackley Campus in Muskegon, Michigan
  • Mercy Health Saint Mary’s in Grand Rapids, Michigan
  • Mount Carmel St. Ann’s in Westerville, Ohio
  • St. Francis Hospital & Medical Center in Hartford, Connecticut
  • St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea in Chelsea, Michigan
  • St. Joseph Mercy Livingston in Howell, Michigan
  • St. Joseph Mercy Oakland in Pontiac, Michigan
  • St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center in Syracuse, New York
  • St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, Pennsylvania

An independent, nonprofit organization, the Leapfrog Group semiannually assigns “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” and “F” letter grades to 2,600 general, acute-care hospitals in the United States, using up to 28 national performance measures from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Taken together, those performance measures produce a single letter grade representing a hospital’s overall performance in keeping patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade methodology has been peer reviewed and published in the Journal of Patient Safety.

Administered on behalf of employers and other purchasers, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the nation’s only rating system focused entirely on errors, accidents, injuries and infections. It is becoming the gold standard measure of patient safety, cited in MSNBC, The New York Times and AARP The Magazine.

Some ministries have been engaged with the study — and earning high grades — for many years: St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea, with 14 “As” in the last 15 rating periods; Loyola Gottlieb Memorial Hospital, with eight “As” over nine rating periods, and St. Joseph Mercy Oakland, with seven “As” in a row.

In addition, 18 Trinity Health hospitals earned commendable “B” grades, with goals to strive toward improved performance. Three of these hospitals have shown steady, upward progress over several rating periods:

  • Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida
  • Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, Maryland
  • St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor in Ypsilanti, Michigan

Safety Grade methodology is reviewed by a national panel of experts, which is guided by the Johns Hopkins Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are assigned twice a year, in the spring and fall.

siParadigm Diagnostic Informatics Launches COVID-19 Testing for the General Public

Testing will be offered to the public at Veterans Memorial Park seven days a week

Individuals do not need to be symptomatic or have known risk factors to receive a test, or nor does anyone need a physician’s order

siParadigm Diagnostic Informatics, a leader in high-complexity medical diagnostics, announces the launch of its mobile COVID-19 testing service for the general public. The New Jersey medical laboratory will partner with local townships and large employers to hold drive-through and on-site testing events.

With this new service, siParadigm will administer COVID-19 tests to whoever wants one. Individuals do not need to be symptomatic or have known risk factors to receive a test, or nor does anyone need a physician’s order. Expanded testing eligibility supports virus containment, making it a critical step towards the resumption of normal activities.

The company’s first drive-through testing site has been set up in partnership with the Borough of Bergenfield, NJ, which had 726 positive cases of the virus as of last week. All residents of Bergenfield will have the opportunity to know their infection status and self-quarantine if necessary.

“Bergenfield has been one of the hardest-hit communities in the state and although we are seeing encouraging signs, we want to be sure that anyone infected with COVID-19 is aware of the situation,” said Mayor Arvin Amatorio. “Testing asymptomatic individuals is a major step forward and we are proud that Bergenfield will be the first municipality in Bergen County to offer this service.”

Upper nasal (nasopharyngeal) samples collected from the respiratory tract will be evaluated using a molecular real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assay, which has been granted Emergency Use Authorization by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Results will be available within 24 hours, and communicated by email or text message.

siParadigm will bill all health insurance plans as well as Medicare and Medicaid. The out-of-pocket testing fee for individuals without insurance or whose insurer denies payment is $150. In the case of Bergenfield, residents without insurance may be eligible for assistance in paying for the test and should contact the Borough Administrator for more information.

Testing will be offered to the public at Veterans Memorial Park seven days a week. Approximately 1200 tests can be administered each day. Initially, individuals will need to register for the test by texting the word “registration” to 201-267-2488 or booking online at covid.siparadigm.com

“To reduce the spread of the contagion in New Jersey, it’s essential to expand access to COVID-19 testing, and siParadigm is committed to being part of the solution,” said Dr. Sherif Nasr, the company’s President, and Chief Medical Officer. “We’ve developed a safe and efficient process that overcomes several obstacles to widespread testing availability. Improved access to testing for everyone will provide much-needed clarity, and facilitate going back to a safer working environment.”

Social Distancing Guidelines Will Likely Look Similar for Near Future

News Image

“(Social distancing efforts), combined with the supportive care of our clinicians and increased testing, will help reduce COVID-19’s impact on our communities.” — Tammy Lundstrom, M.D., J.D., SVP &CMO, Trinity Health, and also an infectious disease specialist.

As we move from an acute to potentially chronic outbreak of COVID-19, Trinity Health wants to remind you of the importance of continuing social distancing. Social distancing is when people limit contact with others not in their immediate household and keep apart from others when in public.

COVID-19 has no vaccine or known cure, making social distancing one of the most helpful tools against the spread of this virus.

“Social distancing will likely be our next normal as we continue to flatten the curve,” said Tammy Lundstrom, M.D., J.D., senior vice president and chief medical officer, Trinity Health, who is also an infectious disease specialist.

As some stay-at-home restrictions have been easing across the country, it is important to help keep COVID-19 infection rates lower by following these recommendations, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):

  • Handwash frequently for at least 20 seconds with soap and warm water, or use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol
  • Stay home as much as possible, including working remotely, if possible
  • Keep six feet between you and others while in public
  • Wear a mask while in public
  • Do not touch your face with your hands
  • If you feel ill, please contact your health care provider and seek immediate medical attention if you have difficulty breathing.

“These efforts, combined with the supportive care of our clinicians and increased testing, will help reduce COVID-19’s impact on our communities,” said Lundstrom.

As restrictions ease, Trinity Health wants to remind people that they may once again seek medical care for non-COVID-19-related issues, such as chronic conditions and some elective procedures or surgeries. As always, people should call 911 or seek immediate medical attention if they are experiencing symptoms such as severe chest pain, severe shortness of breath, uncontrolled bleeding, stroke-like symptoms or other life-threatening conditions.

If patients need to come in-person, safety protocols are in place to protect them and our caregivers, and Trinity Health has the needed personal protective equipment (PPE), COVID-free zones, screening and testing in place at our patient care facilities. COVID-free Zones are areas where we provide care only for people not known to have COVID-19 or COVID-19 symptoms.
