Agency Online Survey to Measure Impact Upon Behavioral, Physical, and Social Health of Northeast Louisiana from Coronavirus (COVID-19) and Inform Service Improvements

“We understand that many people in our region are experiencing significant mental, physical, spiritual, and financial difficulties due to COVID-19,” said Dr. Monteic A. Sizer. “Knowing the full extent and nuisances of the problems people are facing will help us better meet their needs.”

Northeast Delta Human Services Authority is announcing a brief online survey to assess the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic upon the behavioral, physical, and social health of the citizens in our service region and beyond. The resulting information collected will better inform our programs and services, benefiting the citizens we serve.

“COVID-19 is having a profound effect on all of us,” said Dr. Monteic A. Sizer, Executive Director of Northeast Delta Human Services Authority. “We understand that many people in our region are experiencing significant mental, physical, spiritual, and financial difficulties due to COVID-19. Knowing the full extent and nuisances of the problems people are facing will help us better meet their needs.”

The survey, available on Northeast Delta HSA’s COVID-19 page (http://www.nedeltahsa.org/COVID-19), is voluntary, anonymous, accessible via an online Google Form, and requires an estimated 10 minutes for completion. It will gather data on how COVID-19 has impacted personal well-being and physical health, including mental and behavioral health status and general information access and practices. It will not ask for any protected or private health information, and participants cannot be identified by the data collected.

Additional information will be collected on demographics, relationship status, current living situation, household composition, employment status, and how COVID-19 impacted any or all of these areas. It will also gather information on COVID-19 related resource concerns like household maintenance, food security, health and healthcare, and social relationships.

“Along with our integrated behavioral and primary healthcare model, we have implemented a number of prevention, wellness, housing, and workforce programs to help citizens begin to establish a new normal,” said Sizer. “We must continue examining and understanding the interplay between individual and community factors so that we can keep innovating and helping our region’s people reach their full potential.”

The online survey: NEDHSA COVID-19 Social Health Impact Assessment will be made public and distributed electronically for access and completion by anyone aged 18 years and older who currently resides in the United States and can read and write in English. Targeted populations include the citizens of northeast Louisiana living in Region 8, followed by Louisiana residents living throughout the state. Individuals outside of the state of Louisiana are welcome to complete the online survey, as responses and data analysis can be stratified by location.

PathAI Demonstrates the Potential of AI-based Characterization of the Tumor Microenvironment at ASCO

PathAI, a global provider of artificial intelligence (AI)-powered technology for use in pathology research, announced the development of an AI-based assay for quantification of the tumor microenvironment (TME) and the application of the method using data from Genentech’s, a member of the Roche Group, IMpower150 trial. IMpower150 is a Phase 3 study measuring the effect of carboplatin and paclitaxel (CP) combined with atezolizumab (Tecentriq®) (A) and/or bevacizumab (Avastin®) (B) in patients with advanced, non-squamous NSCLC. The findings of the analysis support the importance of the TME and vasculature in determining response to PD-L1 and VEGF-targeting therapies and shed light on potential mechanisms of action of combination therapy. PathAI and Genentech will present these findings in an oral presentation and poster presentation (Abstract #3130) at the upcoming American Society of Clinical Oncology 2020 (ASCO20) Virtual Scientific Program on May 29, 2020.

In the study, PathAI developed a deep learning-based TME assay and applied it to 1027 digitized H&E slide images from IMpower150 to generate a high dimensional set of human interpretable features (HIFs) characterizing the TME, including quantitative measurements of cancer cells, immune cells, stromal cells, and the cancer vasculature.

Statistical analyses were performed to identify HIFs associated with progression free survival (PFS) in the IMpower150 treatment groups. The analyses identified increased lymphocytes to fibroblast ratio (LFR) within the TME to be associated with improved PFS among patients receiving PD-L1 targeting therapy (ABCP and ACP) vs. low LFR (HR=0.64 (0.51, 0.81), p < 0.001). LFR showed no significant association with PFS among patients treated with BCP alone (HR=1.13 (0.85, 1.51), p=0.4). A machine-learning based method to quantify blood vessel compression (BVC) within the tissue showed variable association with PFS across treatment arms. Among patients receiving treatment with BCP (containing an anti-VEGF agent), higher BVC within the tumor tissue was associated with improved PFS vs. lower BVC (HR=0.67 (0.50,0.90), p=0.01) and worse PFS among patients treated with ACP (HR=1.50 (1.10,2.06), p=0.01).

Taken together, these findings demonstrate the utility of broadly examining the TME, including measurement of both vascular and immunological components, to dissect the biological basis of drug response in clinical trials of innovative combination therapies in immuno-oncology.

“We are excited about this first milestone as part of our multi-year Strategic Partnership with Genentech. The insights generated with the PathAI research platform demonstrates the potential power of digital pathology and AI technologies to advance cancer research and drug development,” said PathAI co-founder and Chief Executive Officer Andy Beck, MD, Ph.D.

About PathAI

PathAI is a leading provider of AI-powered research tools and services for pathology. PathAI’s platform promises substantial improvements to the accuracy of diagnosis and the efficacy of treatment of diseases like cancer, leveraging modern approaches in machine and deep learning. Five Data Breaches that Put Victims at Greater Risk of COVID-19 Scams

News Image

Amid widespread predictions that COVID-19 will generate a wave of financial and identity crime, Breach Clarity today released analysis of recent data breaches that identifies risk for COVID-19 scams. The San Francisco fraud prevention and detection technology firm used its proprietary algorithm to analyze more than 1,000 elements of these five data breaches to produce their respective risk ratings.

“Any crisis is a green light to cybercriminals and scammers,” said Jim Van Dyke, Breach Clarity CEO. “COVID-19 has created an enormous amount of uncertainty and chaos at a scale we’ve not seen before. People are scared, anxious and desperate for anything that might help them through this troubling time. That makes them incredibly vulnerable. And, if you consider their private information is floating around the dark web, just waiting to be purchased by an opportunistic scammer, it’s the perfect storm.”

COVID-19 scams take many shapes. The IRS, for instance, has urged Americans to watch for phishing scams by being extra careful with emails, texts and calls that mention “stimulus check.” The FTC issued a warning to consumers not to fall for offers of vaccinations and home test kits.

According to Van Dyke, not every data breach opens victims up to COVID-19 related scams, or at least not to the same degree. That’s because every data breach exposes a different types of information. Whereas the April 2020 breach of video conferencing app Zoom exposed email addresses, passwords and personal meeting URLs, for instance, the March 2020 breach of Tupperware.com exposed credit and debit card information and billing addresses.

Cybercriminals use each type of stolen data in unique ways. Email phishing scams, for instance, rely on a good, clean set of legitimate email addresses. Payment fraud, on the other hand, depends on accurate and complete credit or debit card data. COVID-19 scammers are relying heavily on socially engineering to make attacks on financial accounts. Contact information, account information and the identifiers consumers use to access those accounts, therefore, are of high value to COVID-19 scammers.

Breach Clarity’s analysis revealed that five recently reported data breaches put victimized consumers at greater risk of targeted scams. Those five are…

  • Toondoo.com, reported January 2020, exposed emails, login credentials and device information, e.g. IP addresses
  • LimeLeads, reported January 2020, exposed employer name and contact info, as well as work email addresses
  • Health Share of Oregon, reported February 2020, exposed protected health information, healthcare insurance account numbers, Social Security numbers and more personal data.
  • Tetrad, reported February 2020, exposed names and associated home addresses
  • Marriott International, reported March 2020, exposed employer names, home addresses, emails and phone numbers

“While they didn’t break into the top five, a number of smaller breaches directly tied to COVID-19 assistance programs pose particularly concentrated risk to victims,” added Van Dyke. Those breaches include the U.S. Small Business Administration, which exposed data on nearly 8,000 small business owners applying for the Economic Injury Disaster Loan program, and the Arkansas Division of Workforce Services, which exposed the Social Security and bank account numbers of approximately 30,000 applicants for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance.

To explain how the firm determined which breaches presented greater COVID-19 scam risks, Breach Clarity COO Al Pascual said, “Essentially, the algorithm simulates the cybercriminal mindset. It considers the newly available, formerly private, data and calculates the attacks, tricks and traps that are most likely to be deployed with that intelligence.”

Consumers, reporters, analysts and others can access a Breach Clarity Score and threat analysis for the five breaches posing the greatest COVID-19 risk – or for any publicly-reported data breach – at BreachClarity.com. In addition to the score, the search results include the data types exposed in the breach, the specific risks the breach presents and a list of protective action steps victims can take to protect themselves. Search results for the U.S. Small Business Administration breach, for instance, look like the one above.

TPC Systems and Accutech Security Systems Partner to Provide Infant Protection Systems In Connecticut and throughout the Northeastern US

“The top two reasons we chose to switch to the Cuddles infant protection solution are that it greatly reduces alarm fatigue and we love the feel and functionality of the Cuddles band,” stated Tom Cafora, owner of TPC Systems.

Accutech Security has entered into a formal partnership with TPC Systems for the distribution of the Cuddles infant protection solution throughout Connecticut and the Northeast.

Accutech Security is a leading manufacturer in electronic monitoring and security systems and has more than 5,000 active installations worldwide. TPC Systems has offered life safety systems like nurse call, infant protection, fire alarm, and access control for over 85 years.

TPC has dominated the Connecticut market by integrating reporting analysis with their solution offering. This important data provides hospitals with valuable information on improving efficiencies and outcomes.

“The top two reasons we chose to switch to the Cuddles infant protection solution are that it greatly reduces alarm fatigue and we love the feel and functionality of the Cuddles band,” stated Tom Cafora, owner of TPC Systems.

The Cuddles band is soft and automatically adjusts for postpartum weight loss in the infant, eliminating “too loose” alarms.

“Our sales team’s biggest concern is patient safety, which is why they don’t want the infant security system to use the hospital’s Wi-Fi,” stated TPC’s Business Development Director, Fred Paoletti.

TPC is not alone in its desire to protect its clients. With competitive infant systems moving to Wi-Fi models in favor of offering enterprise RTLS solutions, many dealers are finding it necessary to provide a solution that doesn’t open the system up to vulnerabilities that are inherent with Wi-Fi technology.

“We are excited to welcome TPC Systems to the Accutech family of authorized dealers,” said Josh Williams, President for Accutech Security. “TPC’s reputation in the Connecticut market is second to none and their commitment to extraordinary customer service mirrors Accutech’s dedication to the end-user.”

About TPC Systems

TPC Systems is a full-service systems integration and communication technology solution provider serving customers in the healthcare, education, commercial, and institutional markets. For over 85 years, TPC Systems has provided full project life cycle services including system planning, project management, installation, training and maintenance, and unmatched technical support with their on-call staff that is available 24/7, allowing customers to always speak with a live person.

Mon Health System Joins AHN Clinically Integrated Network, Group Purchasing Organization

Mon Health Medical Center, Morgantown, WV

“We are so pleased to collaborate with AHN services and programs to enhance our offerings to our patients,” said David Goldberg, president and CEO, Mon Health System.

Officials with Mon Health System today announced that the Morgantown-based healthcare organization is joining the clinically integrated network (CIN) and the group purchasing organization run by Allegheny Health Network (AHN). Mon Health System will also collaborate with AHN’s Cardiovascular Institute to establish a heart failure program at Mon Health Medical Center.

Known as Physician Partners of Western PA, AHN’s CIN is a physician-led regional partnership of independent and AHN-employed physicians that coordinates care for nearly a quarter-million patients across various medical specialties and care sites. The CIN’s goal is to promote the delivery of high-quality, high-value health care through evidence-based clinical models, value-based payer contracting and shared accountability that creates better patient outcomes and experiences.

Other benefits to Mon Health System of being part of Physician Partners include access to advanced clinical and claims-based analytics and predictive modeling (through integrated electronic medical records and claims data) and the opportunity to participate in Alternative Payment Models (APMs).

Mon Health System is also joining AHN’s group-purchasing organization (GPO), which will enable the health system to secure better pricing and consistent sourcing for medical supplies. AHN’s GPO currently leverages the consolidated purchasing power of more than 90 hospital members to negotiate lower costs for medical-surgical supplies, implantable devices, and other items.

“We are so pleased to collaborate with AHN services and programs to enhance our offerings to our patients. Many of our physicians have a longstanding relationship with peer physicians at Allegheny General Hospital and other AHN facilities, including the burn center at West Penn Hospital. We are honored to call AHN a partner in providing higher level services to our patients. We are excited to collaborate in the CIN and GPO to improve outcomes and reduce costs for our patients,” said David Goldberg, President and CEO of Mon Health System.

Additionally, starting in June, AHN cardiologist and heart failure specialist Christopher Link, MD, will join the Mon Health Medical Center medical staff and begin a heart failure clinic at Mon Health Medical Center, bringing the advanced expertise of AHN’s nationally recognized Cardiovascular Institute closer to home for the residents of Morgantown and neighboring communities. Dr. Link joined AHN in 2019 from Maine Medical Partners. He received his medical degree from the University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine and completed his residency and cardiology fellowships at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

“Allegheny Health Network is always excited to collaborate with outstanding providers like Mon Health System who share our commitment to the highest standards of clinical excellence and value-based care,” said Cynthia Hundorfean, President and CEO, AHN. “We look forward to working with the leadership of Mon Health System to help support their mission of service to the people of north central West Virginia.”
