Thai Hospital with Self-Healing Properties

Largest private health center in Eastern Thailand: The new 5-floor wing expands Kasemrad Hospital’s capacity to 115-beds and even includes a rooftop garden.

Even when constantly exposed to the tropical climate in Thailand, the service life of Penetron-treated concrete can be as much as three times longer than conventional concrete.

Construction at the Kasemrad Hospital in Sa Kaeo, Thailand was completed on May 11, 2020 which now features a greatly enlarged and enhanced medical facility. Penetron crystalline technology was used to waterproof the hospital’s new concrete below-grade basement structures, water tanks, and rooftop garden.

Part of the Bangkok Chain Hospital (BCH) network of private hospitals, the Kasemrad Hospital in Sa Kaeo, on the Cambodian border in Eastern Thailand, was upgraded to a full-service hospital and healthcare center. The hospital now provides general and internal medical services, including a full range of surgical facilities, pediatrics, a nutrition center, dermatology and other specialties. The new 5-floor wing expanded the hospital’s capacity to 115-beds.

“With the completion of the expansion project, the Kasemrad Hospital in Sa Kaeo is now the largest private health center in Eastern Thailand,” says Boonmanop Siewsirikul, from Penetron Thailand.

Looking for a Proven Waterproofing Solution

The project engineers contacted the local Penetron organization to collaborate on an effective and proven waterproofing solution for the hospital’s new basement structure, the potable drinking water tanks, and the concrete elements of the rooftop garden.

“We were able to show the project engineers and the contractor the results of many other successful applications of Penetron’s crystalline technology in Thailand,” recalls Boonmanop Siewsirikul. “They were quickly convinced by the resulting impermeability and the permanent self-healing capabilities of concrete treated with Penetron products.”

PENETRON ADMIX was subsequently specified for the below-grade structures such as, the foundation slab, basement walls and drinking water tanks. PENETRON was topically applied to over 10,000 m2 (110,000 square feet) of rooftop concrete surfaces of the hospital that are exposed to the environment.

Stopping Water Penetration into Concrete

The proprietary chemicals in PENETRON ADMIX react with concrete to generate a network of insoluble crystals, which fill in the micro-cracks, pores and capillaries in the substrate. This stops any water penetration into the concrete of the new Kasemrad Hospital wing, which is now permanently waterproof.

“Even when constantly exposed to the tropical climate in Thailand, the service life of Penetron-treated concrete can be as much as three times longer than conventional concrete,” adds Boonmanop Siewsirikul.

The Penetron Group is a leading manufacturer of specialty construction products for concrete waterproofing, concrete repairs and floor preparation systems. The Group operates through a global network, offering support to the design and construction community through its regional offices, representatives and distribution channels.

MEDPLI Now Offering Malpractice Insurance for Private Practice OB/GYNs

“OB/GYN medical malpractice insurance is so expensive that it can prevent doctors from opening their own practice. My goal is to bring new opportunities to these physicians by offering them affordable malpractice insurance without compromising on coverage.”

MEDPLI, the independent medical malpractice insurance provider, is now offering malpractice insurance to solo doctors and small groups of physicians that practice Obstetrics and Gynecology.

OB/GYNs are in demand across the country, but the risk of medical malpractice lawsuits hinders doctors from going into private practice. Reasons for this include the high expense of malpractice insurance for OB/GYNs and difficulty in navigating the insurance marketplace. To help solo doctors and small groups find comprehensive and affordable insurance, MEDPLI is expanding its insurance brokerage services to Private Practice OB/GYNs Reasons for this include the high expense of malpractice insurance for OB/GYNs and difficulty in navigating the insurance system. To help solo doctors and small groups find comprehensive and affordable insurance, MEDPLI is expanding its insurance brokerage services to Private Practice OB/GYNs.

“MEDPLI’s focus is to help solo physicians and small groups, because these are the doctors that need the most guidance through the minefield of malpractice insurance,” says Max Schloemann, CEO of MEDPLI. “OB/GYN medical malpractice insurance is so expensive that it can prevent a doctor, or a small group of doctors, from opening their own practice. My goal is to bring new opportunities to these physicians by offering them affordable malpractice insurance without compromising on coverage. We currently help OB/GYNs in more than 30 states.”

A key aspect to helping solo OB/GYNs and small groups is making sure they obtain coverage from A-rated carriers. “We only recommend carriers that have an A-rating from A.M. Best,” explains Max Schloemann. “A.M. Best vets insurance companies and gives an A-rating to those that are able to protect their policyholders, even during times of increased claim payouts and financial downturns.”

OB/GYNs’ long tail exposure make them more susceptible to a lawsuit. Even the most highly skilled and caring Obstetricians face uncertainty that can lead to claims, and legal defense costs can escalate into six figures. By offering insurance from A-rated carriers, MEDPLI is helping OB/GYNs be protected for the long-term in the event of failed tubal litigation, bowel perforation, shoulder dystocia, poorly performed cesarean sections, and maternal or fetal death. MEDPLI recommends getting a policy with defense costs in addition to the policy’s stated limits of liability. Evalueserve Launches Comprehensive Global Recovery Index Based on Healthcare, Social, and Work Resumption Indicators

The Evalueserve Logo

Evalueserve, a leading global analytics firm, has launched Evalueserve Global Recovery Index (EGRI), a comprehensive recovery index that combines three sub-indices that COVID-19 has had the strongest impact on: healthcare, economic/work resumption, and social interactions. The index seeks to provide a holistic way of looking at these three areas at once –something that has been absent until now, as global coverage has been focused on specific, insular areas:

  • Healthcare Recovery is based on total new cases and new deaths per million population in the covered countries.
  • Social Recovery is based on the resumption of sports activities and events, the opening of schools and colleges, and general social interaction and local transport usage.
  • Work Resumption is based on six distinct variables – nitrogen dioxide emission data, workplace visits, traffic data, volume of flights, store visits, and status of international borders.

“We created this index with the goal of providing a comprehensive and independent view of global recovery from COVID-19,” says Marc Vollenweider, Evalueserve’s co-founder and chief strategist. “Getting an accurate and unbiased view of the situation is critical for industry leaders, for both scenario planning as well as balancing customer focus,” he adds.

The Evalueserve team has been tracking different aspects of recovery from COVID-19, starting from the early stages of the disease in China. In view of the widespread impact of the pandemic, the index has been expanded to cover leading economies worldwide.

“Our robust capabilities across research and analytics, and several years of experience working on indices across sectors, have helped us create this holistic and easy-to-interpret global recovery index. For our partners, this is a valuable source of information for analyzing the overall recovery story,” says Sumeet Chander, Head of Evalueserve’s APAC business.
