KanTime Software Continues Expanding EVV Footprint Nationwide

KanTime How Better Happens

“We love KanTime EVV, it manages all of the rules and regulations easily, allowing us to work with far fewer types of exceptions,” said Sherry, Area Manager at Home Health Care by Callos.

KanTime, a leader in the post-acute EMR space with a strong presence in the Electronic Visit Verification arena, adds Ohio to its growing list of states where it is an approved EVV vendor. As the CURES Act continues to mandate more states to adopt EVV, KanTime has made it a priority to become an alternate EVV provider in all open states so that post acute care providers can utilize one platform to manage everything from intake and scheduling all the way to billing and collections.

KanTime has achieved EVV certification as an alternate EVV provider or is integrated with the State mandated vendor in the following states: Ohio, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Virginia, and Texas. The company plans to add New York and Arizona to its list in the coming months.

KanTime’s EVV module meets Federal requirements and captures all the required information including type of service performed, the record of the individual receiving the service, date of service provided, location of service delivery, staff providing the service, and the start and end times of the service. Thousands of caregivers utilize the KanTime Mobile application, available online and offline, to easily capture all required EVV information and more such as the geolocation, client signature, tasks performed, and client voice recordings (optional).

Sherry, Area Manager at Home Health Care by Callos in Ohio, recently shared, “We love KanTime EVV, it manages all of the rules and regulations, allowing us to work with far fewer types of exceptions. This has significantly reduced the administrative burden seen with other solutions. The KanTime Mobile app can be configured to require a beneficiary signature before the note is submitted and has so many more features that help us be more efficient in our care delivery.”

As states continue to adopt and mature their EVV programs KanTime will continue to take a leadership role in keeping customers in alignment with those changes. Robert Dean, KanTime’s EVP of Sales stated, “Our customers are in the business of delivering world-class healthcare. They have come to depend on KanTime as their partner in navigating the ever-changing requirements landscape.”

AHN West Penn Hospital Named one of Nation’s Top 100 Hospitals

West Penn Hospital, part of Allegheny Health Network (AHN.)

West Penn Hospital, part of Allegheny Heath Network (AHN), has been named one of the nation’s 100 Top Hospitals by IBM Watson Health™ for the second consecutive year.

The new report, published this week in Fortune magazine, spotlights the top-performing hospitals in the United States, based on a scorecard of publicly available clinical, operational, safety, financial, and patient satisfaction data.

IBM Watson Health™ recognizes hospitals of all sizes, in five different categories – major teaching hospitals, teaching hospitals, large community hospitals, medium community hospitals, and small community hospitals.

West Penn is among 25 facilities recognized in the “teaching hospitals” category. It is one of just two hospitals in the Pittsburgh area, and one of four in Pennsylvania, to be named to the 100 Top Hospitals® list.

“We are extremely proud to be named one of the nation’s top hospitals by one of the country’s most respected health care industry analysts,” said Ron Andro, president of West Penn Hospital. “This honor again is reflective of the extraordinary talent and dedication of our physicians, nurses, volunteers, and employees at every level.”

This year marks the sixth time that West Penn Hospital has been named to the prestigious Top 100 Hospitals list, which has been published annually since 1993. To create its 2020 list, IBM Watson Health™ researchers evaluated more than 3,100 short-term, acute care, non-federal U.S. hospitals.

“West Penn Hospital has always held a special place in the hearts of those who are cared for within its walls, and this recognition by IBM Watson Health is a wonderful validation of the clinical excellence and compassion that the hospital’s caregivers provide every day to those in need,” said Cindy Hundorfean, AHN President and CEO. “We can’t express enough how grateful we are to Ron Andro and everyone at West Penn for consistently raising those standards.”

The Watson Health 100 Top Hospitals® study uses independent and objective research to analyze hospital performance in areas such as clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, patient experience and financial health. IBM Watson Health established the list to help identify best practices that may help other health care organizations achieve consistent, balanced, and sustainable high performance.

A cornerstone of Pittsburgh’s Bloomfield neighborhood, West Penn is a 333-bed teaching hospital and tertiary care facility. Among the many leading clinical programs based at the hospital are AHN’s Women’s Institute, Autoimmunity Institute, Esophageal and Lung Institute, blood and marrow transplant program, and the West Penn Burn Center.

The hospital continues to evolve and expand its clinical programs. In 2019, the hospital cut the ribbon on its expanded Level III neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and in the same year opened three new cancer care facilities for patients with breast, gynecologic and hematologic cancers.

In 2018, the hospital opened a first-in-the-region Healthy Food Center, which provides fresh, healthful foods to patients with diabetes who are screened by their doctor as being food insecure. West Penn is also home to the Alexis Joy D’Achille Center for Perinatal Mental Health, a one-of-a-kind program and facility dedicated to caring for women with post-partum depression and other anxiety disorders.

West Penn also was the first hospital in Pittsburgh to earn the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition, the nation’s most prestigious honor for nursing excellence.

According to IBM Watson Health, compared to similar hospitals, the hospitals included on the Fortune and IBM Watson list had better results on key clinical and operational performance indicators. These include survival rates, patient complications, healthcare associated infections, 30-day mortality and 30-day hospital-wide readmission rates, length of stay, throughput in emergency rooms, inpatient expenses, profitability, and ratings from patients.

“Hospitals, health systems, and the dedicated clinicians and staff who work at these organizations have emerged as true heroes of the COVID-19 pandemic and we are grateful to be able to recognize these extraordinary leaders at this time,” said Kyu Rhee, M.D., M.P.P., Vice President and Chief Health Officer, IBM Watson Health.

“From small community hospitals to major teaching hospitals, organizations on this list demonstrate a relentless commitment to high value, patient-centered care and innovation. It is clear that the COVID-19 crisis will be a catalyst for reinvention, and we believe these top performing hospitals are positioned to emerge stronger and smarter out of this crisis.”

Everest Group Predicts IDP Market Growth Acceleration in 2021

Everest Group

Automated extraction of data using IDP solutions will enable organizations to process large volumes of semi-structured and unstructured documents with low-touch processing, greater accuracy, and faster turnaround times, thus helping deal with volume fluctuations as well.

Everest Group reports that the Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) market generated US$540 – $560 million in revenues in 2019 and achieved a nearly 60% growth from 2018 to 2019. However, Everest Group recently scaled back its 2020 growth projections for the IDP market by 50%, revising its original estimate of 50-60% CAGR to 27-30% due to the impact of the COVID-19 crisis.

Everest Group defines Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) as any software product or solution that captures data from documents (e.g., email, text, pdf, and scanned documents), categorizes and extracts relevant data for further processing using artificial intelligence (AI) technologies such as computer vision, optical character recognition (OCR), Natural Language Processing (NLP), and machine/deep learning (ML/DL).

“The IDP technology vendor market is certainly impacted due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis and is currently experiencing a short-term dip in volumes and growth; however, as the economy recovers, we expect the IDP market to witness accelerated demand,” said Anil Vijayan, vice president at Everest Group. “Adoption of automation products in general, and IDP products specifically, will intensify considerably, particularly in those industries such as banking, insurance and healthcare, which are already leading the way in adopting IDP solutions. Post-COVID 19, these industries will seek to accelerate low-touch processing and faster turnaround times through automated extraction of data.”

“Several of the benefits of IDP solutions are being accentuated by the current crisis,” continued Vijayan. “For example, post-COVID-19, enterprises will want to automate as much as possible to reduce dependence on the human workforce and to cut costs. Automated extraction of data using IDP solutions will enable organizations to process large volumes of semi-structured and unstructured documents with low-touch processing, greater accuracy, and faster turnaround times, thus helping deal with volume fluctuations as well.”

Banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) and healthcare enterprises continue to

be the major adopters of IDP solutions, together accounting for a 50% share of the market. Growth in each of these segments between 2018 and 2019 was significant, with BFSI posting a 50% CAGR and healthcare growing at 65-75%. BFSI use cases include customer onboarding, mortgage processing, trade financing and claims processing. Invoice processing, Know Your Customer (KYC) paperwork to prevent medical identity fraud, insurance claims, patient onboarding, and patient records are among the most common healthcare use cases of IDP solutions.

These findings are discussed in more detail in Everest Group’s recently published report “Intelligent Document Processing (IDP) State of the Market Report 2020 – Leave No Page Unturned With AI.” This research provides a detailed view of the current state of the IDP technology market, including market size and adoption trends, buyer satisfaction, product capabilities and trends, solution characteristics, vendor landscape, challenges to IDP adoption.

The report also offers Everest Group’s outlook for the IDP Market for 2020-2021. Trends expected for the coming year include:

  • Package-based IDP solutions will become more prevalent due to the need for faster deployment.
  • The current global pandemic will lead to more receptiveness among enterprises toward cloud-based solutions.
  • Enhanced product capabilities such as software learning, user-friendly interfaces, pre-trained models, better integration with enterprise IT architecture, and security and data protection enhancements will make IDP adoption more attractive.

oneSOURCE Expands Reach to Help Long-Term Care and Assisted Living Facilities Decrease Infection Spread Due to COVID-19

“As we’ve seen with long-term care facilities around the country, safety and maintenance play a vital role in saving people’s lives, especially vulnerable populations.” – Heather Thomas, CMO and executive VP of sales and marketing of oneSOURCE

Today, oneSOURCE, a leading healthcare management solution, announced that its user-friendly Long-Term Care Database for Infection Prevention is now available and includes thousands of Instructions for Use (IFUs) and other manufacturers’ documents for the cleaning and sterilization of reusable medical and non-medical equipment found in long-term care and assisted living facilities. Access to the Long-Term Care Database for Infection Prevention will aid in keeping patients and staff safe as well as maintaining compliance requirements set forth by leading governing agencies for infection prevention such as CDC, CMS and OSHA.

“Over the last few months, COVID-19 highlighted how easily infectious diseases can spread within long-term care and assisted living facilities where high-risk populations live. oneSOURCE has a unique opportunity to provide this sector of the medical field with resources that will aid in managing infection prevention,” said Jack Speer, co-founder and president of oneSOURCE. “We want to change the narrative and feel it’s our responsibility to create the safest environment for all patients and, through our easy-to-use and convenient database, we will continue to connect medical professionals with the tools they need to thrive.”

Long-term care and assisted living facilities will receive a curated supply of applicable manuals and documents related to medical and non-medical grade equipment utilized in a facility. With a focus on manuals and parts lists for items such as laundry equipment, beds, PPE, patient monitoring devices, electric razors, walkers, glucometers, gait belts and more, facility workers will be equipped with effective and functional methods to properly maintain compliance according to CDC, CMS and OSHA. In light of the current COVID-19 pandemic, these procedures will help facilities provide quality patient care and mitigate infection prevention by also emphasizing accurate sterilization processes.

“As we’ve seen with long-term care facilities around the country, safety and maintenance play a vital role in saving people’s lives, especially vulnerable populations,” said Heather Thomas, CMO and executive VP of sales and marketing of oneSOURCE. “In their recent guidance related to COVID-19, AHCA and NCAL recommended that long-term care centers immediately ensure that they’re cleaning and disinfecting non-disposable medical equipment ‘according to manufacturers’ instructions’ and we’re here to make that as easy as possible for providers. COVID-19 has only intensified our resolve to provide powerful healthcare solutions to every facet of the medical industry.”

The Long-Term Care Database for Infection Prevention is an extension of the breadth of databases oneSOURCE offers focusing on global pandemics, facilities maintenance, tissues and implants and other integral compliance fields. As a pillar of the sterile processing community with more than 80 percent market share, oneSOURCE’s databases have been a reliable resource for top healthcare organizations such as Mayo Clinic, Sutter Health, VHA and HCA. Highmark Implements Babel Health Solution for Improved Medicare Advantage Submission Results

Babel Health, Inc. — provider of the first fully integrated platform for risk adjustment encounter submissions — is pleased to announce that Highmark Health has implemented the Babel Health solution for their RAPS and EDPS submissions.

Highmark — the fourth-largest overall Blue Cross Blue Shield-affiliated organization, covering the insurance needs of 5.6 million members in Pennsylvania, Delaware, and West Virginia — partnered with Babel Health to improve workflow and program efficacy, align their data, increase their submissions, while continuing to maintain full compliance. Before Babel Health, Highmark utilized an in-house approach that required following multiple processes on separate information systems for EDPS and RAPS submissions. “The need to simplify our processes and better leverage our resources was the driving force that led to finding a solution that streamlines our submissions and continuously improves quality,” said Olga Ziegler, VP, Revenue Program Management at Highmark.

With Babel Health, Highmark can work through RAPS and EDPS encounter submissions on the same platform. This eliminates the need for two systems with duplicate data.

The Highmark team also desired to improve performance. “We had an ongoing need to advance processes to improve how we measure results,” explained Ziegler. “Real-time visibility into the data, balancing between RAPS and EDPS, and quick problem-solving is crucial to ensure accuracy and completeness of submissions.”

The Babel Health solution gives Highmark’s risk adjustment team direct access to all pre- and post-submission errors, a clear explanation of each error, and a state-of-the-art workflow tool to correct those errors — with no need to engage the claims vendor. No other vendor offers this level of transparency.

Highmark also wanted to ensure that claims didn’t end up in a “purgatory” where they were neither rejected nor accepted. “Eliminating these unknowns impacts performance and reduces operational expense,” added Ziegler. “Any lag in making corrections and confirming submissions is not acceptable. With Babel Health, we know the status of all our submissions and, more importantly, we can ensure all appropriate submissions are sent to CMS.”

Babel Health’s primary focus is the submission process — the last line of defense before an encounter is uploaded to CMS. This was another key reason Highmark decided to adopt the platform. “Unlike other vendors who offer a wide range of services, Babel Health is laser focused on full transparency of risk adjustment data submission management, versus other companies where the submission is a “black box,” said Ziegler.

“As we see changes in regulations and the introduction of new products, it is crucial that we continue to improve the workflow and maintain compliance,” noted Ziegler. “Having a user-friendly system that enables accurate and complete data submission to CMS makes this possible.”
