Dr. Dale Spencer Spreads Gum Disease Awareness to Newton, NC

Dr. Dale Spencer of Hickory Dental Care, Serving Hickory, NC

Dr. Dale Spencer Raises Awareness of Gum Disease Symptoms in Newton, NC

The mission of the practice is to serve our patients, to help them have better dental health, to feel better about themselves and to do it in a caring, safe manner. That’s pretty much what we are all about.

To spread awareness of the importance of gum disease treatment and prevention, Dr. Dale Spencer of Hickory Dental Care invites patients with gum disease in Newton, NC to visit his practice and learn how to improve gum health.

According to a study by the Journal of Dental Research, almost half of Americans over the age of 30 have gum disease. Gum disease typically goes unnoticed, but as it progresses, it breaks down tissues beneath the gum line and can eventually lead to tooth loss. Additionally, gum disease has been linked to systemic health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and premature births.

Gingivitis, the first stage of gum disease, results in red, swollen gums, bleeding gums while brushing and flossing, and chronic bad breath. As gum disease advances into periodontitis and advanced periodontitis, pockets form between the teeth and gums, gums recede, connective tissue deteriorates, and eventually, patients suffer tooth and bone loss.

An expert in gum disease and its consequences, Dr. Spencer realizes the lack of mainstream knowledge about these long-term effects. As a result, he is striving to educate Newton, NC and the surrounding areas on how to recognize gum disease and promote gum health.

“The mission of the practice is to serve our patients, to help them have better dental health, to feel better about themselves and to do it in a caring, safe manner,” Dr. Spencer explains. “That’s pretty much what we are all about.”

To help patients treat gum disease, Dr. Spencer and offers multiple treatment options depending on the severity of the gum disease. These treatments include scaling and root planing, soft tissue recontouring, gum grafting, osseous surgery, and minimally invasive laser gum therapy. His laser gum therapy targets bacteria and diseased tissue without incisions, providing less pain and faster healing time for patients. Dr. Spencer also offers sedation dentistry for patients suffering with dental anxiety.

Patients in Newton, NC with swollen and bleeding gums are encouraged to connect with Dr. Spencer by calling 828-270-7853 or visiting http://www.hickorydental.com. Other services provided at Hickory Dental Care include general dentistry, dental implants, sleep apnea treatment, and cosmetic dentistry.

VirTrial Awarded FDA-Approved Decentralized Clinical Trial with Hope Biosciences

News Image

Together, we are able to safely deliver and monitor our therapies for patients in the comfort of their homes. What this means for the world of cell therapy is nothing short of groundbreaking!

VirTrial has been awarded an FDA-approved hybrid decentralized clinical trial (DCT) with Hope Biosciences. The study provides Hope Biosciences’ autologous, adipose-derived culture-expanded mesenchymal stem cells (HB-adMSC’s) for the treatment of spinal cord injury/disorder (SCI/D). Study protocol incorporates remote visits via VirTrial’s telehealth platform.

“After reviewing countless vendors, we found that VirTrial met our needs as a sponsor and most importantly, patient needs. VirTrial’s partnership in our trial has opened doors for patients who would otherwise be unable to participate due to health and lack of mobility,” stated Donna Chang, President and CEO of Hope Biosciences. “Together, we are able to safely deliver and monitor our therapies for patients in the comfort of their homes. What this means for the world of cell therapy is nothing short of groundbreaking!”

A hybrid decentralized clinical trial eliminates barriers to participation for SCI/D patients who have limited access to travel or suffer from the physical toll travel takes on them. Remote visits limit the demand for all visits to be done in-person. At each remote visit, a registered nurse visits the patient in their home and in conjunction with the physician, who is connected via the telehealth platform, conducts a physical exam. Once the physician gives the approval, the RN can administer the stem cell infusion to the patient in their home.

Mark Hanley, CEO of VirTrial, stated, “VirTrial’s telehealth platform reduces the burden associated with patient participation and makes it possible to recruit patients from a larger geographic area. I applaud progressive sponsors like Hope Biosciences who are embracing virtual trial technology to better serve the patient population and advance the clinical trials industry as a whole.”

Sherry Diers, RN, Clinical Affairs Specialist, Hope Biosciences commented, “The logistics and the physical toll for patients can be substantial. Using the VirTrial platform makes it possible for Hope to reach across hundreds of miles and deliver treatment.”

ISACS 2019

I hope more people be aware of the importance of bone health and the available solutions for their bodies.

Calcium & Bone Health Institute (CBHI) held International Sigma Anti-Bonding Calcium Symposium (ISACS) 2019 at Executive Plaza Hotel in Vancouver, Canada on September 23-24 for two days. The purpose of symposium was to discuss and share the knowledge of the various measures to develop healthy bone and to prevent calcium-related diseases. The theme of this year was “The Secret of Reversible Bone Health”.

“While serving as the president of CBHI which conducts intensive research about the significance of calcium for the human body, I thought of a place where researchers and professors come together to share their knowledge and create synergy effect in their research field,” said Dr. Paul Lee, the ISACS Chair. “I am very grateful that we could start the first Symposium in Vancouver, Canada. I hope more people be aware of the importance of bone health and the available solutions for their bodies.”

The speakers included researchers, professors, dentists, pharmacists, businessmen and patients. People from U.S.A., Canada, Korea, China, Indonesia, and Japan attended in the event. The topics by speakers ranged from cancer, bone, dental treatment, and arrhythmias, to diabetes. Testimonials by patients with SAC treatment were also presented.

SAC (Sigma Anti-Bonding Calcium) calcium was invented by Dr. Paul Lee in 2009. The atomic orbitals of SAC calcium molecule have sigma anti-bonding and therefore, easily separated into atoms in the water, absorbed in the body in the ionic form, Ca++. It is 200 times more soluble in water and has shown up to 80% bone mineral density increase in thousands of people. SAC calcium awakens body’s dormant response and the process is fully natural without side effect.

As the first ISACS 2019 was successfully held, CBHI plans to hold the event internationally following years.

About CBHI

Calcium and Bone Health Institute (CBHI) is Canada based research organization that has invented Sigma Anti-bonding Calcium (SAC). It has partnership with many universities and research organizations. Its invented SAC calcium was tried by thousands of people with great responses from their bodies. It continues to research on many challenging diseases such as osteoporosis, cancer, stem cell, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease and more.

Better Therapeutics Publishes Study Estimating the Health Economic Impact of Digital Therapeutics in Type 2 Diabetes and Hypertension

Digital therapeutics that deliver behavioral interventions focused on root causes of chronic disease demonstrate clinical and cost benefits over traditional therapies.

Today, Better Therapeutics, a company developing prescription digital therapeutics for the treatment of cardiometabolic diseases, announced the publication of its fifth peer-reviewed study titled Estimating the impact of novel digital therapeutics in type 2 diabetes and hypertension: Health economic analysis.

“Chronic diseases including diabetes and heart disease affect half of all adults in the US and account for nearly 80 cents of every healthcare dollar spent. Digital therapeutics that deliver behavioral interventions focused on lifestyle demonstrate potential benefits over traditional therapies like medications and surgeries that treat the effects of disease while leaving the causes in place. They can increase patient access because they are inherently scalable, continuously delivered, and have demonstrated both clinical and cost-effectiveness in diabetes and hypertension,” said Kevin Appelbaum, CEO and study co-author.

The economic analysis estimated cost savings of $145 per patient per month (PPPM) in diabetes, and $97 PPPM in hypertension. These savings are realized by addressing the behaviors and lifestyle factors that are the root causes of disease, reducing the ongoing need for prescription medications. The potential cost savings increases substantially (30-60%) in moderately severe to severe patient populations. The intervention would be cost-effective at total three-year program costs of $6,468 for diabetes and $6,620 for hypertension.

Read the complete study here.

“Our analysis concluded that Better’s digital therapeutics for diabetic and hypertensive patients may provide substantial improvements in patient outcomes resulting in lower health resource utilization and costs, mostly resulting from decreased need for medications,” said health economist and lead author, Bob Nordyke, PhD.

About Better Therapeutics

Better develops prescription software for treating cardiometabolic diseases. By integrating elements of neuroscience, lifestyle medicine, and artificial intelligence, the company has created a new modality for treating a broad range of conditions that share common root causes. The company’s digital therapeutics have been validated in peer-reviewed and published clinical trials. Better is commercializing its disease reversal program with health plans, while pursuing regulatory approval of its first prescription digital therapeutic for treating type 2 diabetes. The company is headquartered in San Francisco, CA, and is a member of the Digital Therapeutics Alliance.

Fruit Street Telehealth Platform Selected for Clinical Trial to Reduce Cognitive Decline andDementia Risk

Fruit Street Health, a digital health and telemedicine company, announced today that its platform has been selected by a research team at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), an affiliate of Harvard Medical School and a founding member of Partners HealthCare, to study different ways to improve brain healthy behaviors in individuals at risk for cognitive decline and dementia.

Over 5.8 million people in the United States alone have Alzheimer disease or related dementias (ADRDs), conditions which carry vast economic, societal, and personal burdens for health systems and families. Research has shown that up to 1/3 of the risk of ADRDs may be reduced by adopting brain healthy behaviors, including aerobic exercise, a Mediterranean diet, and engaging in socially and cognitively stimulating activities. Even while significant pharmaceutical research continues in efforts to delay or prevent dementia, the medical community, today, has evidence that lifestyle interventions are effective at reducing risk, in addition to having myriad benefits to overall health. “There is a giant gap between our knowledge of the behaviors that reduce dementia risk and our application of this knowledge in the delivery of care” said Dr. Seth Gale, investigator and neurologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Neurologists and primary care providers at the Brigham are planning a 6-month pilot study of older patients who are at a higher risk for dementia compared to their peers. Health coaches, allied with study participants’ providers, will employ Fruit Street’s digital platform to educate and motivate participants to achieve positive changes in brain healthy behaviors. In the study, coaches will take advantage of the platform’s fitness activity tracking, photographing of dietary intake, and two-way video and mobile messaging to guide participants in reaching individualized lifestyle goals. Measures of quality of life, sleep, cognitive function, physical activity, and diet among others, will be tracked over the 6-month study.

“We are excited to be contributing to this effort at Brigham and Women’s, where technology will be used directly to study the implementation of treatment recommendations,” said Laurence Girard, CEO of Fruit Street Health. “Dementia is a major public health burden and we are committed to finding innovative ways to help fight it.”

Fruit Street Health is a digital health and telemedicine company which currently licenses its software to healthcare professionals who wish to set up a virtual practice. It was the first company to deliver the Center for Disease Control & Prevention’s (CDC’s) National Diabetes Prevention Program (“DPP”), which has complimentary goals to those in the dementia risk reduction study being planned at BWH. Fruit Street’s HIPAA-compliant telehealth software is possible through a joint venture agreement with VSee, the world’s largest telemedicine video engine with more than three million users. Fruit Street and VSee collaborated to build a telemedicine product that helps healthcare providers conduct HIPAA compliant video calls and monitor the diet and lifestyle of patients using wearable devices and mobile applications. VSee is considered the gold standard for HIPAA compliant video conferencing in the telemedicine industry and offers the most bandwidth efficient video software in the world.

WEDI Releases Industry White Paper, “Understanding the Models and Definitions of Encounters”

“The industry needs to understand the current uses and transmissions of health care encounter data in order to address the barriers and variances that exist today.”

WEDI, the nation’s leading nonprofit authority on the use of health IT to create efficiencies in health care information exchange and a statutory advisor to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), today announced the development of an industry white paper that provides a baseline understanding of various purposes of health care encounter transactions, their processing models and definitions.

According to the paper, “Health care encounter transactions have generally been thought of as secondary use of claims data; data that is used for research and public health surveillance. As alternative payment models and value-based care gain traction, health care encounter transactions and the use of that data have become more prevalent and meaningful. The industry needs to understand the current uses and transmissions of health care encounter data in order to address the barriers and variances that exist today.”

The 32-page document addresses the longstanding purposes, meanings, and needs related to the use and processes associated with health care encounter transactions. Some key takeaways from the white paper’s conclusion include:

  • The industry needs to understand the current uses and transmissions of health care encounter data in order to address the barriers and variances that exist today.
  • Encounter data is sent and received by different organizations. Although the entities involved in sending and receiving the encounter data and transmission methods are similar, each model has its own intent for why the data is being transmitted and what needs to be transmitted.
  • Various nonstandard and work-around methods are used today to send and receive data that are not accommodated in current standard transactions.
