G-CON Building Services

“Our primary purpose is to manage capital projects on behalf of our clients so they can focus on their core business, which is creating therapies for patients.”

G-CON Manufacturing, the leader in prefabricated, flexible cleanroom solutions, today announced the launch of its new subsidiary, G-CON Building Services, LLC, an entity that provides host facility project management solutions to pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical clients simplifying cleanroom projects so that they can be completed in a more timely, predictable and cost-efficient manner.

In cGMP construction projects, challenges often arise, whether from regulatory requirements, permitting, contractor and vendor selection, and/or validation. G-CON Building Services (“GCBS”), was formed to provide project oversight and coordination to clients from inception through performance qualification. GCBS’ experienced GMP project management professionals function as GMP Facility Project Specialists and/or POD Integration Specialists, ensuring that industry regulatory requirements are contemplated in the project plan. Moreover, GCBS fills the knowledge and experience gap between G-CON Manufacturing and the third-party site contractor, allowing the full value of PODs to be realized – speed to market and low total cost of ownership.

“Our primary purpose is to manage capital projects on behalf of our clients so they can focus on their core business, which is creating therapies for patients,” said Roman Bachamp, Director of GCBS. “Because of our expertise in integrating PODs into GMP projects, we shorten the time it takes for our client to start producing their therapies in the space. Getting new and effective therapies to patients earlier is something we are passionate about.”

GCBS focuses its work in the following facilities:

  • Biologics
  • Pharmaceutical
  • Clinical Labs
  • Research and Development

Building Services will manage facility renovations for its clients thereby providing seamless modular/PODular cleanroom integration, mitigating risk and ensuring compliance so the client can focus on what matters most, patients.

“As we expand our POD product portfolio and launch even more prefabricated cleanroom PODs, we have also seen the need for additional services to support our customers as best as we can. For the G-CON team, it is all about helping our clients’ succeed,” said Maik Jornitz, CEO of G-CON. “G-CON Building Services is part of that effort. GCBS will make the design, build and integration of cleanroom infrastructures, including our well-known cleanroom PODs, more efficient and predictable.”

Potential Link Between Heart Disease and Tooth Loss Highlights Need for Good Oral Healthcare, says Beverly Hills Periodontics and Dental Implant Center

https://www.prweb.com/

The health of the teeth and gums may be more closely linked with heart health than previously thought.

This growing evidence adds real urgency to the importance of treating periodontal problems and preventing tooth loss, as well as replacing any missing teeth with dental implants whenever possible.

An October 4 article on US News reports on preliminary findings that add to the mounting evidence suggesting a correlation between tooth loss and heart disease. The researchers found that individuals between 40 and 79 who had lost all of their teeth had a 28 percent chance of also having heart-related problems, compared to just seven percent for those who never lost any of their teeth. While the study has yet to be peer-reviewed and published, the initial findings are backed by an ongoing flow of evidence from other studies suggesting that poor gum health and missing teeth are strongly associated with heart problems and other serious overall health issues. Beverly Hills Periodontics & Dental Implant Center says that this growing evidence adds real urgency to the importance of treating periodontal problems and preventing tooth loss, as well as replacing any missing teeth with dental implants whenever possible.

The oral care center says that both moderate and severe cases of gum diseases often cause severe inflammation, halitosis (bad breath), receding gums, and bone loss. Oftentimes, teeth also begin to shift and become malaligned. That is just the beginning, says the clinic, because untreated periodontal disease makes losing teeth likely. Missing teeth, in addition to other issues discussed above, invariably encourage bone loss which can lead to the loss of more teeth that can lead to a rapid downward spiral. Patients experiencing gum disease symptoms should most certainly visit their dentist sooner rather than later, the center continues, as periodontal disease almost never gets better on its own.

Beverly Hills Periodontics & Dental Implant Center notes that many patients tend to put off oral healthcare, which can only make matters more dangerous and painful. Reluctant patients should be aware that today’s treatments have evolved to better minimize discomfort and childhood memories may tend to exaggerate the stress associated with oral health work. Patients should keep in mind that, the longer they wait, the more involved the work is likely to be, adds the oral healthcare office. On the other hand, it is never too late to address issues. Even when one or more teeth cannot be saved and need to be extracted, dental implants not only replace missing teeth, unlike dentures they can actually prevent bone loss and other issues, says the center.

Bay Area Teen, Saved by Organ Transplant as a Baby, Chosen as Donate Life Rose Parade® Float Rider

https://www.prweb.com/

Khalieghya Dandie-Evans

One family’s decision to donate gave Khalieghya and her family the hope they needed as they watched her fight to stay alive as a baby in desperate need of a transplant.

Khalieghya Dandie-Evans, a liver transplant recipient from Richmond, Calif. was chosen by Donor Network West to ride atop the Donate Life Rose Parade® float in the 131st Rose Parade® on New Year’s Day. She will represent the thousands of people impacted by organ and tissue donation across Northern California and Northern Nevada, the organization’s service area.

Khalieghya, 17, grew up believing it was “normal” to have received an organ transplant. She was born prematurely and diagnosed with biliary atresia soon after birth. A liver from a four-year-old donor saved her life when she was only six months old.

“Being a transplant recipient is all I have known; I thought that everybody got transplants. I am very happy to be alive today as I have lost friends due to transplant-related complications,” says Khalieghya with a bright smile.

Her smile, however, does not embody all of what she and her family went through for her to be alive today. After her transplant at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford, she had to endure many medical tests, hospital visits, surgeries, and treatments.

The year 2020 is very special for Khalieghya; not only will she be a part of the Rose Parade, she will be graduating from high school with honors. Until then, she continues to advocate for organ donation as a Donate Life Ambassador with Donor Network West and volunteers with her local police department and community programs focused on mental illness and resources for the homeless. She is also a member of her high school’s Black Student Union and a multi-sport athlete.

“One family’s decision to donate gave Khalieghya and her family the hope they needed as they watched her fight to stay alive as a baby in desperate need of a transplant. We are happy to have been a part of her journey in becoming the resilient young woman that she is today thanks to the power of organ donation,” says Janice F. Whaley, Chief Executive Officer of Donor Network West.

The Rose Parade, which will take place in Pasadena, Calif. on January 1, 2020, will welcome an estimated 700,000 spectators and will be watched by over 70 million viewers worldwide on television. The parade’s theme, The Power of Hope, honors the opportunity to look beyond challenges of the moment and light a path to a brighter future.

The 2020 Donate Life Rose Parade® float, Light in the Darkness, shares the Power of Hope by highlighting Southeast Asia’s Diwali, or the Festival of Lights, a celebration of light shining in darkness. The float will include 70 participants from across the U.S. Twenty-six organ and tissue recipients or living donors will be atop or walk alongside the float during the parade.

Floral displays overflow from intricate vessels adorned with 44 memorial floral portraits that honor the Gift of Life and light given by deceased organ, eye, and tissue donors.

Nearly 10,000 people await a life-saving organ transplant in Northern California and Nevada. One organ donor can save the lives of up to eight people and a tissue donor can heal more than 75 others Anyone can register as a donor at DonorNetworkWest.org or at the DMV.

About Donor Network West

Donor Network West saves and heals lives by facilitating organ and tissue recovery for transplantation. The organization was established in 1987, and is an official Donate Life organization accredited by the Association of Organ Procurement Organizations (AOPO) and the American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB). Federally designated to serve 40 counties in Northern California and Nevada, Donor Network West partners with the Department of Motor Vehicles and the state-authorized donor registries. CareConnect Selects Woolpert to Integrate, Manage Google Maps Platform Enterprise Account

News Image

Through Woolpert and our Google Maps Platform, we can efficiently provide the most qualified, available and cost-effective caregivers to those in need.

Woolpert was recently chosen by CareConnect, a software-as-a-service-based (SaaS) technology provider for the home care market, to integrate and manage its Google Maps Platform Enterprise Account. CareConnect plans to leverage this platform to optimize the compliance, automated shift booking, communications and logistics of its caregiver management application.

CareConnect was initially designed for New York home care agencies and is rapidly expanding its national footprint. CareConnect developed a proprietary artificial intelligence-enabled algorithm that pairs individuals who receive services in their homes with a caregiver, considering factors that include compliance, location, cost, availability, skills and travel time. The system works across multiple databases and applications to increase operational efficiencies for home care providers.

“The idea behind CareConnect was to put more power into the hands of caregivers by providing an automated tool to manage their profiles, availability, skills and regulatory compliance,” CareConnect Founder Bert Brodsky said. “CareConnect recently announced strategic partnerships with Sandata Technologies, a leading provider in home health care technology solutions, and Mobile Health Management Services, a provider of clinical and other compliance services to the home care industry. Through these partnerships, we have access to a home health care network that enables providers to more cost-effectively manage their workforce and meet the needs of their clients in the home.

“Our objective is to deliver a more efficient match via our algorithm,” Brodsky said. “From the time the agency gets a new client to the time it matches that client with a caregiver now takes seconds as opposed to the minutes and hours it used to take by calling, emailing and texting with caregivers. It’s a huge value for home care providers because they don’t have to pay for that time. Operational efficiencies equal cost efficiencies.”

CareConnect initially approached Google about integrating and managing its Google Maps Platform to support its expanding network, and Google referred the provider to Woolpert. Brodsky said he had not heard of Woolpert, but a quick Google search yielded information about the firm’s international mapping technologies and “incredibly impressive operations.”

Woolpert began its partnership with Google in 2014 and in 2018 was named Global Google Maps Partner of the Year. The firm also recently expanded into Google Cloud services and products.

“We’d been using a basic version of Google that we’d subscribed to with the API (application programmer interface), but we wanted to leverage this tool to optimize the match around travel time,” Brodsky said. “Our business is logistics-based. The last piece of the puzzle where the matrix and the API come into play is in minimizing costs. Through Woolpert and our Google Maps Platform, we can efficiently provide the most qualified, available and cost-effective caregivers to those in need.”

Woolpert Director of Google Maps Services Rick Bennett said the Google Maps Platform will support CareConnect by providing the company and its customers reliable and highly accurate data, which will allow them to scale their location-based services efficiently.

“CareConnect is ahead of the game in how they leverage technology, yielding the most effective results for the company and its clients,” Bennett said. “We look forward to supporting CareConnect’s current use cases and to all future innovation efforts with cutting-edge, location-based technology moving forward.”

Allegheny General Hospital Opens State-of-the-Art Gastroenterology Lab

We now have a beautiful, sophisticated new facility to meet the increasing demand for our services with a level of care, innovation, quality and efficiency that is second to none in our region.

Allegheny Health Network (AHN) and Highmark Health leaders today are celebrating the opening of a new AHN Center for Advanced Endoscopy at Allegheny General Hospital (AGH). The state-of-the-art, 13,000 square-foot facility is equipped with the latest advanced technologies for diagnosing and treating disorders of the digestive system.

Located on the 1st floor of the hospital’s Snyder Pavilion, the new center houses 18 spacious pre- and post-procedure bays, six procedure rooms and is staffed by AHN’s team of experienced, highly skilled gastroenterologists, advanced endoscopists, surgeons and nurses.

“This significant investment in the capacity and capabilities of our gastroenterology program is a testament to AGH’s long-history of providing exceptional, innovative care for patients in need of gastrointestinal screenings, diagnostic exams or therapeutic interventions,” said Elie Aoun, MD, MS, Chief, Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, and AHN Medical Director for Clinical Access. “We now have a beautiful, sophisticated new facility to meet the increasing demand for our services with a level of care, innovation, quality and efficiency that is second to none in our region.”

Procedures commonly performed in the lab include colonoscopy to detect colon cancer and polyps, upper endoscopy for evaluation of mucosal disease, endoscopic ultrasound for staging and sampling of gastrointestinal tumors, and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) for diagnostic and therapeutic management of pancreatico-biliary diseases.

The lab’s ERCP rooms are equipped with advanced imaging equipment that includes the e-view™ MP Fluoro System from Omega Medical Imaging. The only system designed specifically for interventional endoscopy, e-view facilitates the most complex endoscopic procedures by providing physicians with unprecedented visualization of the GI anatomy while significantly reducing radiation exposure to both patients and staff.

Some of the highly specialized, complex procedures performed include endoscopic stricturotomies and fistulotomies for complex inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients, lumen apposing metal stents (LAMS) to assist in the drainage of pancreatic fluid collections, and peroral endoscopic myotomy for the management of swallowing disorders such as achalasia.

“The center’s unique design and build helps facilitate these novel treatments and places it as one of the most elite for the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal disorders,” said Shyam Thakkar, MD, AHN Director of Endoscopy. “From its innovative infection prevention technology, to a video integration system which enables our staff to more seamlessly collaborate in the management of the most complex patients, this facility assures truly best-in-class patient care.”

Recognized by the National Pancreas Foundation (NPF) as a center of excellence for pancreatic care, the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition was also recently recognized by the American College of Gastroenterology(ACG) for its efforts in providing the community the option to receive screening colonoscopies more conveniently on Saturdays. For the second consecutive year, the group received a SCOPY (Service Award for Colorectal Cancer Outreach, Prevention and Year-Round Excellence) for ‘Best Community Service Delivery and Comprehensive Community Education Initiative by a Health System.’

The ACG recommends for most people that colorectal cancer screening begin at age 50. To schedule a colonoscopy or an appointment with an AHN gastroenterologist, call 412.359.8900 or 412.DOCTORS.

A Specific Spinal Adjustment is the Latest Development in the Science of Treating Drug Addiction

https://www.prweb.com/

Dr. Russell Surasky

Spinal adjustments for reducing pain and improving brain/nervous system function in patients recovering from drug and alcohol dependency.

A chiropractic college and a long-established outpatient addiction treatment program have entered a unique partnership to offer spinal adjustments for reducing pain and improving brain/nervous system function in patients recovering from drug and alcohol dependency – an approach some experts are calling a “major leap forward” in the science of addictive care, says neurologist and addiction medicine specialist Dr. Russell Surasky, FAAN ABAM ABPM.

The pioneering agreement between New York Chiropractic College and the multi-center, New York-based Bridge Back to Life will provide a specific form of spinal adjustments in addition to cutting edge medications to help their patients heal from addiction. “Clinical research findings have shown that patients in treatment from addiction who receive certain types of spinal adjustments have higher rates of recovery than those who undergo only standard addiction therapies” says Dr. Russell Surasky, who serves as medical director of Bridge Back to Life.

Additionally, Dr. Surasky has his own private practice, Surasky Neurological Center for Addiction, in Great Neck, New York. He is triple board-certified in neurology, addiction medicine and preventive medicine – the only physician in the nation with this combination of credentials.

“I truly believe that this agreement with the College will serve as a national model for drug rehabilitation centers throughout the country,” Dr. Surasky concludes. “Not only can spinal adjustments reduce the chronic pain issues that may have led patients into drug addiction in the first place, but now we also have evidence that spinal adjustments actually accelerates the healing of the brain from addiction.”

Dr. Surasky refers specifically to a study, published in the prestigious journal Nature, which shows that chemically dependent patients who received specific spinal adjustments as part of their treatment in recovery reported “less drug cravings and fewer mental health symptoms,” Dr. Surasky notes. “Most significantly, 100 percent of the study patients who received chiropractic care completed the inpatient program, while about half of those who did not receive spinal adjustments dropped out prior to completion.”

One of the most important indicators for a patient’s success in recovery is the ability to remain in treatment, Dr. Surasky emphasizes. “A 100% retention rate in an addiction treatment program is, frankly, unprecedented.”

The neurological pathways involved in addiction are complex and still not completely understood, but research and clinical experience indicate that it is the brains limbic system which becomes hijacked by drugs such as opiates and alcohol. The limbic system is an area of the brain that is located near the brainstem but also extends into the upper cervical spine. “The limbic system has widespread connections throughout the brain and is the most powerful driver of human behavior. The limbic system of the brain is precisely the region that gets hijacked by drugs of abuse, thereby perpetuating patients’ cravings to keep using these drugs,” Dr. Surasky explains.

The atlas bone (C1) at the top of the neck is what protects the limbic system and brain stem. When this Atlas bone of the neck is out of alignment it can have far reaching effects on the function of the brain and its limbic system. Safe, painless adjustments to the upper cervical spinal bones can help normalize the brain’s limbic system.

According to Dr. Surasky “Cutting Edge Research done by Dr. Raymond Damadian (inventor of the MRI machine) has show that misalignments at the top of the neck cause disruptions in the flow of cerebrospinal fluid.” The brain is bathed in cerebrospinal fluid (csf) and the brain depends on CSF to carry away the iron deposition that builds up from normal brain metabolism. If a misalignment exists at the junction between the Atlas bone (C1) and the skull this could hinder the drainage of CSF. Researchers have hypothesized that not only can an upper spinal adjustment help patients suffering with addiction but that it may also help prevent neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease”.

Mounting evidence that “gentle specific spinal adjustments of the upper cervical spine” can help reset and restore normal function to the brain is what prompted Dr. Surasky and his Bridge Back to Life team to seek a partnership with New York Chiropractic College. Dr. Surasky also credits Bridge Back to Life owner Gary Butchen LCSW for “his vision in helping make this collaboration with the college happen. Thanks to Mr. Butchen’s willingness to move forward with the agreement, countless more patients will be helped.”

Under terms of the partnership, New York Chiropractic College doctors and students in clinical training will evaluate and treat Bridge Back to Life patients undergoing addiction therapy.

Bio: Dr. Russell Surasky is triple board certified in neurology, addiction medicine and preventative Medicine and the founder of the Surasky Neurological Center for Addiction in Great Neck New York. He is the medical director for Bride Back to Life and a national speaker for Alkermes, the manufacturer of Vivitrol. Additionally, he educates physicians and the New York criminal justice system about addiction and these new advancements in treatment. Dr. Surasky is currently the only neurologist in the U.S. who is trained to perform upper cervical spinal adjustments. http://www.drsurasky.com

New Benzer Franchise/Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) Partnership Expands Accreditation Opportunities for Pharmacy Compliance

Benzer Franchise, a fast-growing, nationwide network of retail pharmacies, proudly announces the start of a joint effort to assist member pharmacies across the country to both seek and gain accreditation status by demonstrating adherence to ACHC standards and best practices.

Eager to spread the word, Vinesh Darji, President of Benzer Franchise, suggested that the agreement has already energized collaborative efforts between Benzer Franchise and the ACHC, explaining that the two sides have a lot more in-store with regard to providing a higher standard of care for patients over time.

“This partnership will make us more accessible to the community by providing specialty products needed for specific health conditions, like diabetes care management, respiratory management, cancer care, and infusion,” Darji said. “We are certainly proud to work alongside the ACHC in meeting the specific needs of community-based pharmacies seeking accreditation on the Specialty RX front, as well as through other ACHC distinctions, such as oncology, infectious disease specific to HIV, and hazardous drug handling, among others.”

The ACHC offers a broad suite of pharmacy accreditation programs and services, including those aimed at disciplines such as Specialty, Infusion, Long-Term Care, and Sterile/Non-Sterile Compounding, as a means to enhance patient care while meeting core business objectives.

According to Tim Safley, ACHC Program Director, each program gives local pharmacies the opportunity to set themselves apart by demonstrating their dedication to meeting the highest standards for quality and safety.

“Both ACHC and Benzer Franchise share a commitment to improving pharmaceutical care and clinical outcomes across the board,” Safley reasoned. “ACHC’s comprehensive compliance solutions are designed to help pharmacies address both internal and external industry challenges, especially the increasing demand for specialty pharmacy services.”

Given those parameters, Darji sees the partnership a perfect match between two like-minded organizations, committed to guiding providers through the accreditation process.

“The comprehensive support backing the accreditation effort, as well as the educational resources behind it are only the beginning,” Darji said. “We’ve made the mission possible—now it’s time to make it probable.”
