FlexCare Medical Staffing Named 2019 Best Places to Work

https://www.prweb.com/

FlexCare Medical Staffing

As a team, we take great pride in partnering with the most dedicated travel nurses, therapists, and allied clinicians in top hospitals around the country.

FlexCare Medical Staffing, a leader in medical staffing services for acute care facilities across the nation, has been honored as the top company in the large employer category for the Sacramento Business Journal’s 2019 Best Places to Work. This is the sixth year in a row that FlexCare has been recognized as one of the Greater Sacramento area’s Best Places to Work and the first time FlexCare was awarded the top spot.

“It’s an honor and extremely humbling that the FlexCare family feels so strongly about what we’ve built together,” said Travis Mannon, FlexCare chief executive officer. “Our team members give their all every day, so we want to cultivate a fulfilling environment that rewards them for their success and encourages them to strive for more. Being challenged to grow and having fun while doing it are not mutually exclusive. We’ve found that they are very much connected and that’s inspiring.”

From its Culture Club and quarterly events where employees come together to celebrate success, to the “FlexCare Loves Me” infant onesies that are a gift to new parents, and the additional day off to give back by volunteering in the community, FlexCare has forged a strong bond with its growing team, something that can be challenging in such a competitive market for talent.

“Elevating our employees’ voices through focused surveys, giving them opportunities and mentoring to succeed, then combining that with our culture of giving back are some of the reasons why our team members feel empowered and dedicated,” said Bill McElyea, vice president of human resources.

The Best Places to Work survey is conducted annually by the Sacramento Business Journal and honors companies that foster a positive work environment. Employees are asked to provide feedback about company benefits, leadership, culture, and work-life balance.

“As a team, we take great pride in partnering with the most dedicated travel nurses, therapists, and allied clinicians in top hospitals around the country,” said Mannon. “They are some of the nation’s most talented clinicians who positively impact the lives of thousands of patients every day. They approach each day as a gift and it’s awesome to be part of that.”

HomeTown Health LLC First Approved Board Education Provider in State of Georgia

HomeTown Health Approved Board Program

HomeTown Health LLC

“HomeTown Health is proud to be the first in the state to meet the training approval standards by the Georgia Rural Health Innovation Center. We have educated Boards for many years, and this seal of approval is recognition of our well-developed and pertinent education program.”

HomeTown Health is pleased to announce the Hospital Board and Leadership Training Program was certified on October 14, 2019, by the Georgia Rural Health Innovation Center at Mercer University School of Medicine as having satisfied the training requirements found in O.C.G.A . § 31-2-16, becoming the first approved provider of Board Education within the state of Georgia.

Large or small, rural or urban— the role of a hospital in its community is vital. A key to a hospital’s success lies greatly in the governance by its board and trustees, yet the needs of the rural organization often differ greatly. It is a role that demands active participation by members who understand the hospital environment and how to meet the unique challenges rural hospitals face. Trustees face legal, ethical, and regulatory decisions in a highly evolving industry.

In 2018, the Georgia General Assembly implemented a training requirement for rural hospital executives, board members, and hospital authority members. The legislation, HB 769, delegated responsibility for the creation of training standards, approval of vendors, and monitoring of compliance to the Georgia Rural Health Innovation Center.

In accordance with O.C.G.A. § 31-2-16 training approved by the Center must be completed by “the chief executive officer, the chief financial officer, every board member, and every hospital authority member, if operated by a hospital authority pursuant to Article 4 of Chapter 7 of this title, of a rural hospital organization as defined in Code Section 31-89.1.” Such individuals are required to “complete an education program approved by the center pursuant to this paragraph no later than December 31, 2020, or within 12 months of initial hiring or appointment and every two years thereafter.”

HomeTown Health, who has long offered hospital board training through HomeTown Health University, performed an update on the curriculum to become both an approved trainer and to be able to offer an approved curriculum according to the Georgia Rural Health Innovation Center’s standards. In addition to assessment requirements, reporting requirements, and a commitment to quality review of content, the curriculum encompasses eight areas of required training topics. At highest overview, topics include: Governance, Liability and Accountability; Responsibilities to Regulatory Agencies and Legal Considerations; Finances and Fiduciary Responsibility; Compliance; Ethics; Continuum of Care; Strategic Planning & Ability; and Grants. Each of the 8 topics then emphasizes between 3-10 supporting standards for full exploration by participants.

In addition to the Georgia Rural Health Innovation Center approval, HomeTown Health is also authorized to offer continuing education units as an IACET authorized provider. IACET, the official standard for continuing education training, offers CEUs that are recognized by a large variation of boards, organizations, and educational programs. This enables participants to earn accredited continuing education units that meet a variety of professional designation requirements for continuing education.

HomeTown Health’s program offers participants interactive learning encounters through online courses, webinars, moderated groups and live training. The first offering of live training will be held at the 20th Annual HomeTown Health Fall Conference, slated for next week at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia, on October 23. Participants will work closely with the HomeTown Health team to participate through learning encounters which meet their facility’s needs.

AHN recognized as 2019 Most Wired® provider network by CHIME

“This top-level achievement underscores our commitment to implementing the most advanced tools and technologies to improve patient engagement, experience, and safety, and we are honored to be named among the country’s health care technology leaders,” said Robert White, MD, CMIO, AHN.

Allegheny General Hospital, Allegheny Valley Hospital, Canonsburg Hospital, Forbes Hospital, Jefferson Hospital, Saint Vincent Hospital, West Penn Hospital, and Westfield Memorial Hospital, all part of Allegheny Health Network (AHN), have been recognized by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) as Most Wired® hospitals in 2019.

Most Wired® is the industry-leading survey and recognition on IT adoption and innovation in health systems across the country designed to identify, recognize, and certify the adoption, implementation, and use of information technology by healthcare provider organizations. The results are intended to improve patient safety and outcomes by driving change in the healthcare IT industry.

All eight AHN hospitals achieved Most Wired Certified Level 8 (8/10), receiving the Quality Award for both its hospitals and ambulatory Epic system, placing AHN among top leaders in the healthcare technology industry and making AHN the highest rated health system in western PA on a single patient record system.

Forbes Hospital, a 315-bed facility located in the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh, was the first of AHN’s eight hospitals to implement the Epic electronic health records system in 2015. Since then, the platform has been launched at the network’s two largest hospitals in the city, Allegheny General and West Penn, as well as across most of the system’s employed physician practices and at several of its large outpatient centers. AHN’s Jefferson Hospital in Jefferson Hills, PA, Canonsburg Hospital in Canonsburg, PA, Saint Vincent Hospital in Erie, PA, Allegheny Valley Hospital in Allegheny Valley, PA, and Westfield Memorial Hospital in Westfield, NY implemented Epic in 2017 and 2018.

In addition to implementing systems such as Epic, Level 8 organizations have deployed technologies and strategies such as population health and cost-of-care analytics, telehealth, and patient portals, to expand access to care and improve clinical and efficiency outcomes.

“At AHN, we continue to take advantage of services like teleconferencing and same day patient visits, and we’re using analytics in innovative and meaningful ways to help improve patient outcomes,” said Robert White, MD, Chief Medical Information Officer at AHN. “This top-level achievement underscores our commitment to implementing the most advanced tools and technologies to improve patient engagement, experience, and safety, and we are honored to be named among the country’s health care technology leaders.”

Understanding the Difference Between Neck Pain and Neck Spasms

https://www.prweb.com/

Dr. Kaliq Chang

Spasms occur when the muscles in your neck contract suddenly and involuntarily, triggering severe, sharp pain; trouble moving the neck and shoulders; a headache; or even dizziness or tingling in the base of the neck.

Talk about a real pain in the neck: Neck spasms take a common form of discomfort to the next level. But fortunately, a variety of home-based treatments can help, according to Kaliq Chang, MD, of Atlantic Spine Center.

What’s the difference between run-of-the-mill neck pain and neck spasms? Spasms occur when the muscles in your neck contract suddenly and involuntarily, triggering severe, sharp pain; trouble moving the neck and shoulders; a headache; or even dizziness or tingling in the base of the neck, Dr. Chang explains.

“When neck spasms strike, the effects can be extreme,” says Dr. Chang, an interventional pain management specialist who’s double board-certified in interventional pain management and anesthesiology. “The muscles in your neck feel tight, hard and painful, and tender spots in your neck – often called trigger points – can prompt pain in areas around your neck. It’s difficult to do anything else when your neck is in spasms.”

Causes of neck spasms

What brings on neck spasms? Culprits range from the minor to the serious, Dr. Chang says, and include:

  • Sitting for extended periods in front of a computer
  • Turning suddenly while sleeping
  • Repetitive neck movements
  • Wearing a heavy bag on one shoulder
  • Carrying a heavy item, especially with just one arm
  • Cradling a phone against the neck
  • Emotional stress
  • Poor posture
  • Whiplash or other physical trauma
  • Back conditions such as spinal stenosis or herniated disc
  • Medical conditions such as meningitis, an infection of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord

If you’re not sure what triggered your neck spasm and are experiencing other alarming symptoms, such as weakness, numbness or fever, see a doctor.

Unfortunately, it’s usually tricky to predict how long pain from neck spasms can last, Dr. Chang says. “It can linger from a few days to a few weeks,” he notes. “If you can trace your symptoms to a particular activity, it’s important to stop doing that activity until your muscles have healed and the pain has eased. Otherwise, it will take longer to recover.”

Treatment and prevention tactics

In the meantime, a variety of exercises and home-based remedies can help speed up the recovery process after experiencing necks spasms. Treatment tactics include:

  • Stretches: This may be the quickest, most effective remedy, Dr. Chang says. “Gently stretch the muscles in spasm, repeating these stretches as needed as the muscles calm down,” he adds.
  • Massage: Placing pressure on the neck muscles – either with your own or someone else’s hands – can help knead tightness away.
  • Ice or heat: Ice packs, gel packs or frozen vegetables are the cold form of this treatment, while moist heating pads or wet washcloths are the heated form. Apply whichever temperature therapy feels best. Repeat every few hours for 20 minutes or so at a time.
  • Medications: Over-the-counter NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as ibuprofen or naproxen can ease pain and calm inflamed muscles, Dr. Chang says, or your doctor can prescribe a higher-strength version.
  • Physical therapy: Your doctor may prescribe a course of physical therapy to provide certain exercises and other treatments for neck spasms.
  • Steroid injections: If non-invasive treatments don’t help, your doctor may inject a steroid or pain reliever into the affected neck area.

As always, of course, prevention is far preferable to experiencing neck spasms in the first place – or suffering a recurrence, Dr. Chang says.

“You can avoid the most common triggers of neck spasms by practicing good posture while you walk and sit at a computer, taking frequent breaks, and stretching your neck muscles several times a day,” he advises.

EMulate Therapeutics® Inks Distribution Agreement for India with Sayre Therapeutics

EMulate Therapeutics, Inc., a clinical-stage therapeutic device company developing non-invasive treatments for cancers and other serious diseases, announced it has entered into an exclusive agreement for the distribution of the company’s proprietary Voyager ulRFE® system for treatment of patients with selected brain cancer indications – both recurrent and newly diagnosed glioblastoma (GBM) and diffuse midline glioma (DMG), in India. The exclusive distributor is Sayre Therapeutics (Sayre), a Bangalore, India-based company that provides access to differentiated medical solutions to patients and clinicians in emerging markets by identifying high unmet needs across the healthcare continuum. Sayre Therapeutics is a specialty biotech dealing with innovative treatments, medical devices and diagnostics commercialization in South Asia. Sayre is backed by institutional investors and has a portfolio of oncology, interventional oncology and immunology drugs, drug delivery devices and diagnostics.

Chris Rivera, EMulate Therapeutics President and Chief Executive Officer, made the announcement stating, “This agreement with Sayre is EMulate’s second agreement with a highly-regarded international firm, the first being with Teijin Pharma Limited in Japan. Sayre is a natural fit for distributing the Voyager system as they focus on orphan therapeutics, especially cancer, as well as their current detailing of brain cancer doctors to promote products to treat GBM and DMG.”

“We are very excited about this agreement for Voyager and Hӕlo™ distribution with Sayre,” stated Michael Mischke-Reeds, Senior Vice President of Business Development for EMulate Therapeutics. “The agreement continues EMulate’s business plan for wide-spread international distribution of the Voyager and Hӕlo system with the potential to treat a number of forms of cancers and other serious diseases in children and adults.”

Ravindranath Kunjithai, Vice President and Head, Medical & Regulatory affairs at Sayre Therapeutics mentioned that “GBM is an aggressive and common malignant tumor, affecting 5000 to 7000 patients in India, with poor prognosis and limited treatment options. Since 2003 until now there have been only two FDA approvals, pointing to the unmet therapeutic need in this field. The Voyager ulRFE system is a novel concept that has shown good results in the clinical trials for GBM. Emulate has developed this ulRFE technology into a non-invasive and easy to use device in home/office surroundings, that will have far reaching positive outcomes on the Indian GBM patients.”

“Voyager is in alignment with our philosophy of launching first-in-class products that improve survival and quality of life of Indian patients,” stated Shukrit Chimote, Chief Executive Officer at Sayre Therapeutics. “Sayre Therapeutics is excited to strengthen its neuro-oncology portfolio with the addition of Voyager and Hӕlo to the existing targeted drug-delivery options, such as carmustine wafers This further reinforces our commitment to the burgeoning home healthcare market for life threatening diseases. EMulate received ISO 13485:2016, a prerequisite for a CE Mark, in May of this year; as well as receiving MDSAP (Medical Device Single Audit Program) certification in July, which is pertinent to registration in other geographies. An application for a CE Mark in the European Union was announced in August.

About EMulate Therapeutics

Headquartered in Seattle, EMulate Therapeutics is a clinical-stage therapeutic device company. EMulate has invented and patented a groundbreaking technology that utilizes precisely targeted ultra-low radio frequency energy (ulRFE®) to specifically regulate metabolic pathways on the molecular and genetic levels – without chemicals, radiation or drugs – delivered via a simple-to-use non-sterile, non-invasive, non-thermal, non-ionizing investigational device. The company’s goal is to transform disease treatment on a global scale with ulRFE, which can potentially be applied to a wide range of medical conditions as well as to veterinary medicine and non-medical applications. EMulate’s initial focus is on the treatment of patients with brain cancer, who are not well served by conventional standard of care therapies, which often result in poor outcomes and devastating side effects. Pre-clinical work is focused on exploring new applications in oncology. In addition, EMulate’s Voyager system for adults with GBM is an investigational medical device in clinical development.
