Drs. Kenneth and Jonathan Nash Relieve Dental Anxiety in Vicksburg, MS

When we offer sedation, we are monitoring everything. It is very safe and, for patients, they get the benefit of getting a lot of work done in a short amount of time.

Drs. Kenneth and Jonathan Nash offer soothing sedation dentistry to counter dental anxiety for their Vicksburg, MS patients, helping them receive the dental care they need. Patient comfort during dental procedures is a top priority for the dentists at Nash Family Dentistry. This practice creates a relaxing environment and offers a variety of sedation options that help ease anxiety and block sensations of discomfort during treatments.

Dental sedation is often used to help patients with dental anxiety receive the care they need without fears or discomfort. Nash Family Dentistry offers both oral and nitrous oxide sedation as conscious sedation options. These forms of sedation help patients relax, yet still stay awake during the procedures.

“When we offer sedation, we are monitoring everything,” Dr. Kenneth Nash explains. “It is very safe and, for patients, they get the benefit of getting a lot of work done in a short amount of time.”

Sedation dentistry is a very safe technique that is used frequently at Nash Family Dentistry. Patients are closely monitored during sedation, watching pulse, heart rate and blood pressure for safety. When anxiety and fear is no longer a concern, patients are able to receive more dental care in a shorter amount of time. This means treatments can often be completed during one appointment rather than being separated into multiple appointments.

In addition to sedation dentistry, Nash Family Dentistry also offers minimally invasive and comfortable dental care with the help of laser dentistry and ClearCorrect orthodontics. Laser dentistry takes the scalpels and sutures out of dentistry, able to perform dental care with just laser light. ClearCorrect orthodontics offers tooth alignment with gentle clear aligners that are both removable and virtually invisible in the smile. The practice also prides itself on patient communication and calls every patient after their appointment, no matter how small the treatment, to make sure they are still comfortable and not experiencing any problems.

Those interested in learning more about the practice, or who want to experience the benefits of sedation dentistry to help ease dental anxiety, are encouraged to call Nash Family Dentistry at 601-634-1812 or schedule a consultation online at http://www.vicksburgdentist.com.

Hemanext Announces CE Mark Submission for the HEMANEXT ONE Red Blood Cell Processing System

Our CE Mark submission is a significant milestone for Hemanext. Hemanext President & CEO Martin Cannon.

Hemanext Inc., a privately held medical technology company dedicated to improving patient outcomes through fewer and better red blood cell (RBC) transfusions, today announced CE Mark submission for HEMANEXT ONE®, the company’s initial product offering that is designed to provide a higher-quality blood product for transfusion patients.

The HEMANEXT ONE processing system reduces the fuel for oxidative damage prior to and during storage, and converts a unit of conventional, leukoreduced RBC into a transfusion-ready unit of HEMANEXT ONE RBC.

“We have seen a growing body of scientific evidence that oxidative damage to RBCs could have a negative impact on clinical outcomes for many acute and chronic patient populations that require large volumes of transfusions,” said Paul M. Ness, MD, Senior Director, Division of Transfusion Medicine and Professor of Pathology, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine; Editor, Transfusion, the peer-reviewed journal of the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) (2003-2018); Past President, AABB. “Improving the quality of RBCs could enhance patient care and simultaneously reduce the quantity of RBC units required to treat many diseases and conditions.”

Hemanext anticipates receiving CE Mark approval in the first half of 2020, with commercialization initiatives for the HEMANEXT ONE system in Europe commencing in the second half of the year. Hemanext also expects to submit a 510(k) premarket notification to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2020.

“Our CE Mark submission is a significant milestone for Hemanext. It is the culmination of years of research and collaborations with the transfusion medicine community in Europe,” said Hemanext President and CEO Martin Cannon. “We are grateful for the partnerships that have brought us another step closer to creating a world with fewer and better transfusions.”

ABOUT HEMANEXT

Hemanext is a privately held medical technology company dedicated to improving the quality, safety, efficacy and cost of transfusion therapy. The company’s research and development efforts center on the study and future commercialization of hypoxically stored red blood cells (RBCs). HEMANEXT ONE®, our initial product offering, is designed to improve the quality of life for chronic and high-volume acute transfusion patients while reducing costs.

The Emergency Dentists at Cardinal Park Family Dental Care Relieve Tooth Pain in Leesburg, VA Around-the-Clock

Dr. Gary Ashton, Dentist in Leesburg, VA

Emergency Dentist, Dr. Gary Ashton, Provides Around-the-Clock Care in Leesburg, VA

Cardinal Park Dental Care, in some cases, can even extract a tooth and place a dental implant in the same day.

Drs. Gary Ashton, Hugo Manrique, Christine Han and Nassir Barekzi of Cardinal Park Family Dental Care provide patients with the advantage of receiving immediate, around-the-clock treatment from an emergency dentist in Leesburg, VA. This enables individuals experiencing sudden changes in their oral health to get the compassionate care they need to minimize long-term problems associated with allowing dental emergencies to continue undiagnosed and untreated.

Emergencies and accidents involving the mouth can happen at any time. One of the most common complaints that causes people to seek the help of an emergency dentist is serious tooth pain that occurs without warning or accompanies a traumatic event. Tooth pain indicates a problem and should be taken seriously to avoid further complications. Other common reasons patients come for emergency dentistry services at Cardinal Park Family Dental Care include sports injuries and broken teeth.

The team at Cardinal Park Family Dental Care follows a practice of conservative health care and treatment whenever possible. This philosophy involves saving and restoring natural teeth whenever feasible. However, in some cases, tooth extraction may be necessary to permanently relieve tooth pain and properly manage teeth that are too decayed or damaged to contribute to oral health and hygiene.

Patients who require a tooth extraction may also choose to replace the missing tooth with a dental implant. Dental implants are the only tooth replacement option that replicates the function and appearance of natural teeth and offers long-term reliability. Cardinal Park Dental Care, in some cases, can even extract a tooth and place a dental implant in the same day.

Individuals who require treatment in the day or evening hours from an emergency dentist in Leesburg, VA are invited to call Cardinal Park Family Dental Care at 703-779-2296. Cardinal Park Family Dental Care has received the honor of being the “Best of Loudoun” in dentistry for seven years in a row.

Cardiothoracic Imaging Publishes Special Report on Vaping

https://www.prweb.com/

Chest X-ray in a 24-year-old man with a history of e-cigarette use

We encourage the medical imaging community to produce scientific evidence and medical knowledge to help advance our collective understanding of the effects of e-cigarette use on the lungs and other organ systems.

Radiology: Cardiothoracic Imaging has published a special report on lung injury resulting from the use of electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes), or “vaping.” Authors Suhny Abbara, M.D., FACR, MSCCT and Fernando Uliana Kay, M.D., Ph.D., from the Department of Radiology at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas, aim to raise awareness among radiologists and other medical professionals on how to identify e-cigarette or vaping product use-associated lung injury (EVALI).

“Radiologists will continue to play an important role in recognizing this emerging entity,” said Dr. Abbara, who is also the editor of Radiology: Cardiothoracic Imaging. “We encourage the medical imaging community to produce scientific evidence and medical knowledge to help advance our collective understanding of the effects of e-cigarette use on the lungs and other organ systems.”

E-cigarettes act by delivering nicotine, flavorings and other additives in aerosol form. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 9 million adults in the U.S. use e-cigarettes, and vaping has become especially popular among teens. The 2018 National Youth Tobacco Survey reported that in 2018 more than 3.6 million middle and high school students were using e-cigarettes.

The CDC, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and state and local health departments have started an investigation into the recent outbreak of lung injury associated with the use of e-cigarettes. As of October 22, 2019, 1,604 cases have been reported from 49 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and one U.S. territory. Thirty-four cases have resulted in death. However, these numbers likely underestimate the true incidence and prevalence of disease due to lack of recognition and reporting of vaping-associated lung injury.

In the special report, Drs. Abbara and Kay summarize recent cases from the literature and illustrate some of the radiographic and CT findings of lung injury with a clinical case of a 24-year-old male patient with past medical history of asthma, who presented with shortness of breath, productive cough, chest pain and fever for one week. The patient reported current daily use of e-cigarettes (with tobacco) and marijuana, without substantial change in recent vaping habits. He had high white cell and platelet counts. His chest X-ray showed ground-glass and reticular, or netlike, opacities in both lungs.

CT findings included ground glass opacities and pulmonary consolidation with relative subpleural sparing. Histologic specimens obtained from the right lower lobe at biopsy were suggestive of lipoid pneumonia. The patient was given steroids with a presumptive diagnosis of lung injury associated with e-cigarette use.

“The diagnosis of lung injury due to e-cigarette use should be a differential possibility in patients presenting with bilateral lung opacities on radiographs or ground-glass opacities on chest CT images and exposure to e-cigarette products within 90 days of the presentation,” Dr. Abbara said.

The epidemiologic case definition of lung injury associated with e-cigarette use for surveillance purposes includes the presence of all the following criteria: use of e-cigarette or dabbing (butane hash oils) within 90 days before symptom onset, presence of pulmonary opacities on chest radiographs or ground-glass opacities on chest CT images, absence of pulmonary infection at initial workup, and no evidence of alternative plausible diagnoses.

The report outlines that research into vaping-associated lung injury should be approached as a team effort by members of multiple specialties, including pathologists, epidemiologists, pulmonologists and emergency physicians, but highlights the critical role of radiologists.

“It is crucial that radiologists drive some of the research initiatives to better understand the mechanisms of disease presentation, facilitating the diagnosis and management of these patients,” Dr. Abbara said.

“Electronic Cigarette or Vaping-associated Lung Injury (EVALI): The Tip of the Iceberg.”

Radiology: Cardiothoracic Imaging is edited by Suhny Abbara, M.D., University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, and owned and published by the Radiological Society of North America, Inc. (https://pubs.rsna.org/cardiothoracic-imaging)

NoteSwift announces powerful new Samantha OnePage for Allscripts Professional EHR

Samantha is providing physicians a simple and powerful way to make EHR entry quicker and more accurate than manual entry, scribe entry, or transcription services

NoteSwift, a leading provider of AI solutions to ease the burden and increase the accuracy of entering patient documentation into the EHR, is pleased to announce the launch of its OnePage technology in Samantha for Allscripts Professional. This powerful new functionality significantly improves the user experience within Samantha and offers physicians more functionality and consistency to further reduce the time and clicks it takes to enter and update patient documentation.

Samantha OnePage offers providers a number of benefits to make EHR entry simpler:

  • Access to your template list for Review of Systems and Physical Exam on one screen, including previously applied templates, so you don’t have to remember the names.
  • Visibility to the contents of Review of Systems and Physical Exam templates so you can see what changes need to be made.
  • Easier workflow to display and amend previous encounters with new or updated information.
  • Full control of the input process from a single screen.
  • Improved and expanded AI functionality and accuracy.
  • A simple and intuitive user interface for easier use and less training time.

“I love the look and ease of the new Samantha OnePage,” says Dr Rathkopf of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Center of Alaska. “Being able to see and edit the contents of our templates, I now can use Samantha for my returning patients as well as new patients. This is a major upgrade and is saving me many hours!”

“Samantha is providing physicians a simple and powerful way to make EHR entry quicker and more accurate than manual entry, scribe entry, or transcription services,” according to Wayne Crandall, President and CEO of Noteswift. “With Samantha OnePage for Allscripts Professional EHR, we’ve further simplified the flow for providers to create new notes or update/amend existing patient notes in seconds, without having to navigate through all the screens of the EHR.”

The OnePage interface is the result of a year-long study receiving input from hundreds of providers and watching their EHR workflow. The key learning from this research is that EHRs continue to be cumbersome and frustrating to use, and the technology innovations added to Samantha OnePage can dramatically improve provider satisfaction with their EHR and enable more face time with their patients.

“According to many studies, physicians are burning out in record numbers across our country, largely due to the burden of administration and EHR entry,” says Crandall. “With Samantha, our goal is to support providers, reduce physician burnout, and ultimately help physicians offer better care to patients by helping them spend less time on computers and more face time with their patients.”

About Noteswift, Inc.

Noteswift was founded by practicing neurologist Dr. Chris Russell to improve efficiency and productivity within his own practice. Dr. Russell’s unique combination of medical expertise and software development experience helped him develop the revolutionary Noteswift products that integrate EHR entry with AI-powered speech recognition solutions.

In 2017, Noteswift launched the next evolution of Dr. Russell’s vision, called Samantha. Because Samantha enables providers to complete patient notes easily – intelligently identifying the structured data elements within the narrative text, automatically assigning all required codes, and seamlessly integrating with the EHR – providers can not only complete patient documentation faster, but also more accurately.

Fort Washington Medical Center Officially Becomes Part of Adventist HealthCare

News Image

We look forward to strengthening the Medical Center’s presence through facility improvements, outpatient services, as well as expanded physician practices.

Adventist HealthCare, one of the longest-serving health systems in the Washington, D.C. region, announced this week that Fort Washington Medical Center in Prince George’s County is now officially a part of its organization.

Fort Washington Medical Center is a 37-bed hospital located just south of National Harbor in a growing section of the region. It cares for close to 40,000 patients a year in its emergency department and, like Adventist HealthCare, has a strong commitment to serving the needs of their community. In July, Adventist HealthCare and Nexus Health, the previous owner of Fort Washington Medical Center, announced the two organizations had reached an agreement to transfer the medical center.

Given the changes in healthcare both nationally and in Maryland, joining Adventist HealthCare will allow Fort Washington Medical Center to expand its high-quality healthcare services in Prince George’s County and overcome the challenges of operating as a standalone community hospital. Adventist HealthCare will invest $35 million over five years to help the hospital continue to meet the health needs of the community.

“Bringing Fort Washington Medical Center into the Adventist HealthCare family provides opportunities to combine our shared missions of improving the health of Maryland residents,” said Eunmee Shim, President of Fort Washington Medical Center. “We look forward to strengthening the Medical Center’s presence through facility improvements, outpatient services, as well as expanded physician practices.”

Adventist HealthCare, founded in 1907, serves patients throughout the Washington, D.C., region. The organization features a comprehensive spectrum of care including: three acute-care hospitals; two physical rehabilitation hospitals with outpatient locations; physician practices; and services for mental health, home care, imaging and urgent care. It is a regional leader in heart, stroke, physical rehabilitation, cancer, OB, and other medical specialty care.
