NeoTract Designates Dr. Andrew Chang as UroLift® Center of Excellence

News Image

“We are pleased to recognize Dr. Andrew Chang as a UroLift Center of Excellence for his commitment to providing consistent care to BPH patients using the UroLift System treatment,” said Dave Amerson

NeoTract, a wholly owned subsidiary of Teleflex Incorporated (NYSE:TFX) focused on addressing unmet needs in the field of urology, today announced that Andrew Chang, MD, Chesapeake Urology in Brandywine, MD, has been designated as a UroLift® Center of Excellence. The designation recognizes that Dr. Chang has achieved a high level of training and experience with the UroLift® System and demonstrated a commitment to exemplary care for men suffering from symptoms associated with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH), also known as enlarged prostate.

Recommended for the treatment of BPH in both the American Urological Association and European Association of Urology clinical guidelines, the FDA-cleared Prostatic Urethral Lift procedure using the UroLift System is a proven, minimally invasive technology for treating lower urinary tract symptoms due to BPH. The UroLift permanent implants, delivered during a transurethral outpatient procedure, relieve prostate obstruction and open the urethra directly without cutting, heating, or removing prostate tissue.

The UroLift Center of Excellence program is designed to highlight urologists who are committed to educating their patients on BPH and the UroLift System as a treatment option and consistently seek to deliver excellent patient outcomes and experiences.

“We are pleased to recognize Dr. Andrew Chang as a UroLift Center of Excellence for his commitment to providing consistent care to BPH patients using the UroLift System treatment,” said Dave Amerson, president of the Teleflex Interventional Urology business unit. “This achievement has helped many patients experience durable, long-term relief from the burdensome symptoms of BPH while preserving sexual function*1,2.”

Over 40 million men in the United States are affected by BPH, a condition that occurs when the prostate gland that surrounds the male urethra becomes enlarged with advancing age and begins to obstruct the urinary system. Symptoms of BPH often include interrupted sleep and urinary problems and can cause loss of productivity, depression and decreased quality of life.

Medication is often the first-line therapy for enlarged prostate, but relief can be inadequate and temporary. Side effects of medication treatment can include sexual dysfunction, dizziness and headaches, prompting many patients to quit using the drugs. For these patients, the classic alternative is surgery that cuts, heats or removes prostate tissue to open the blocked urethra. While current surgical options can be very effective in relieving symptoms, they can also leave patients with permanent side effects such as urinary incontinence, erectile dysfunction, and retrograde ejaculation.

About the UroLift® System

The FDA-cleared UroLift System is a proven, minimally invasive technology for treating lower urinary tract symptoms due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). The UroLift permanent implants, delivered during a minimally invasive transurethral outpatient procedure, relieve prostate obstruction and open the urethra directly without cutting, heating, or removing prostate tissue. Clinical data from a pivotal 206-patient randomized controlled study showed that patients with enlarged prostate receiving UroLift implants reported rapid and durable symptomatic and urinary flow rate improvement without compromising sexual function*1,2. Patients also experienced a significant improvement in quality of life. Over 100,000 men have been treated with the UroLift System in the U.S. Most common adverse events reported include hematuria, dysuria, micturition urgency, pelvic pain, and urge incontinence. Most symptoms were mild to moderate in severity and resolved within two to four weeks after the procedure. The Prostatic Urethral Lift procedure using the UroLift System is recommended for the treatment of BPH in both the American Urological Association and European Association of Urology clinical guidelines. The UroLift System is available in the U.S., Europe, Australia, Canada, Mexico and South Korea. Learn more at http://www.UroLift.com.

Everyone’s Invited to Surf with Santa on Cocoa Beach this Christmas Eve

NPI/Florida’s Space Coast Office of Tourism

“This is a festive, fun in the sun family event. Whether you’re big into surfing or just looking to make more unforgettable holiday memories, Surfing Santas should be at the top of your holiday bucket list.”

Cocoa Beach is preparing to host its 10th annual “Surfing Santas” event, an all-comers extravaganza that has become one of the world’s most-dazzling Santa-themed gatherings.

What began as a simple family beach day a decade ago has grown into the nation’s most beloved – and slightly zany – holiday tradition. Now, ten years in, there’s no better place for Santa to loosen up as he gets ready for his one annual workday than the surfing capital of the East Coast.

Last year, with a massive beachside crowd of more than 10,000 cheering them on, nearly 600 surfers took to the Atlantic all decked out in their best St. Nick outfits. This Christmas Eve morning, the infamous group of Surfing Santas are ready to hit the beach again with hopes of breaking their own record for the number of Santa Clauses simultaneously riding the waves.

“Surfing Santas is truly a sight to behold,” said event organizer George Trosset, who got the craze rolling somewhat innocently on Dec. 24, 2009, when a news photographer captured him wearing a Santa getup while surfing with his family. “Watching this explode into one of the largest and most-talked about holiday events has been nothing short of phenomenal.”

There are no skill or age requirements to participate as a Surfing Santa and the event is free. Just don your most-festive holiday garb and grab a board. Spectators are invited to dress up as well – cash prizes are in store for the best themed costumes, and one “people’s choice” grand prize winner in the costume contest will take home a Surfing Santas surfboard.

“This is a festive, fun in the sun family event. Whether you’re big into surfing or just looking to make more unforgettable holiday memories, Surfing Santas should be at the top of your holiday bucket list,” said Peter Cranis, the executive director of Florida’s Space Coast Office of Tourism. “For our guests from out of town, it’s a great opportunity to get into the holiday spirit while soaking up our Florida sunshine and unbeatable, laid-back Space Coast vibe.”

Since 2013, Surfing Santas has raised more than $130,000 for charity, through donations and sales of official Surfing Santas T-shirts. All proceeds benefit the work of two local organizations: the Grind for Life cancer support group and the 20-year-old Florida Surf Museum.

For more information about Surfing Santas and where to stay along the Space Coast, visit http://www.visitspacecoast.com. The Dec. 24 event will begin at 8 a.m. along the beach near 2 Minutemen Causeway (where the causeway intersects with Route A1A N. Atlantic Avenue) and is expected to continue until noon. Plenty of parking is available and numerous area restaurants will be open to serve Surfing Santa participants and spectators.

Unitek Learning Announces Their Expansion to Two Locations in Idaho

Unitek Learning is the parent company of several distinguished learning institutions: Unitek College, Unitek EMT, Eagle Gate College, and Provo College.

Through the Boise and Idaho Falls campuses, Unitek seeks to promote student excellence, strengthen support for workforce development, and help fill the need for health care professionals in the United States.

Unitek Learning is proud to announce the expansion of Eagle Gate College to Boise and Idaho Falls. Eagle Gate plans to offer medical assisting and nursing programs at both locations. The Idaho Board of Nursing recently gave Unitek initial approval to create nursing education programs for these new campuses. Based in California, Unitek seeks to provide Idaho residents with accelerated and convenient courses for their health care needs. The two campuses will open in 2020, and they will offer aspiring professionals a range of programs in the nursing field.

“During the Idaho Board of Nursing meeting that was held on October 10th in Boise, Idaho, all board members unanimously voted to grant Unitek initial approval to plan a new nursing education program application for a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, a Master’s Entry Program in Nursing, and a Practical Nursing program,” said Dr. Abdel Yosef, Chief Academic Officer at Unitek Learning. “The addition of these nursing programs will help alleviate nursing shortages in the state of Idaho.”

While the Idaho Board of Nursing has approved the development of these programs, they have not yet been approved by the school’s accrediting agency or the Idaho State Board of Education. Once finalized, students can benefit from a dynamic learning environment. This includes applied training, hands-on exercises, and clinical simulations. In addition, most students will benefit from class caps to maximize their learning experience. Some programs will also feature online coursework for the busy adult. Others will utilize state-of-the-art simulation centers with high-fidelity simulators and sim-view technology. The next generation can gain a well-rounded education at Unitek, effectively preparing them for successful health care careers.

“It has been another year of growth and opportunity for Unitek Learning, and we look forward to extending our reach in Idaho,” said David Higley, Chief Marketing Officer at Unitek Learning. “Through the Boise and Idaho Falls campuses, Unitek seeks to promote student excellence, strengthen support for workforce development, and help fill the need for health care professionals in the United States.”

Unitek Learning is the parent company of several distinguished learning institutions: Unitek College, Unitek EMT, Eagle Gate College, and Provo College. Unitek Learning is now expanding their presence to Idaho and Reno, Nevada. Taught by experienced professionals, Unitek programs teach clinical practices and theory used in the field today. It may or may not be associated with varicose veins, spider veins or skin changes including venous ulcerations and indiscriminately affects between 30–40 million Americans. Hep B Consult: A Point-of-Care Interactive Decision Support Tool

These data indicate that chronic hepatitis B is being mismanaged in a sizeable numbers of cases around the globe

Many healthcare providers showed discordance from guideline recommendations in their management plans for patients with chronic hepatitis B infection, according to an analysis of data from the “Hep B Consult,” a decision support tool developed by Clinical Care Options (CCO) this year.

“Hep B Consult” allows users to define a patient case scenario using variables, such as HBeAg status, HBV DNA and ALT levels, and liver histology, and receive instant recommendations from American, European, and Asian Pacific HBV guidelines.

Worldwide, users entered more than 8000 cases between March and October 2019. In 4130 of these cases, the guidelines had clear recommendations of whether to treat the patient’s HBV infection and with what to treat, yet in 43% of these cases, clinicians had a management plan that differed from the guidelines.

In 39% of such cases, clinicians indicated that they would change their treatment plan to match the guidelines after using the “Hep B Consult” tool.

“These data indicate that chronic hepatitis B is being mismanaged in a sizeable numbers of cases around the globe,” said Edward King, MA, Executive Vice President of CCO. “Moreover, using ‘Hep B Consult’ may enable clinicians to improve outcomes for people with chronic HBV infection by helping them make optimal treatment choices.”

The “Hep B Consult” app was developed by CCO in collaboration with the American Liver Foundation, the Asian Health Foundation, and Practicing Clinicians Exchange and is available as a Web-based tool and as apps for Android and Apple devices at:
