Leading Miami Healthcare Advertising Agency Welcomes National and Local Clients

The Weinbach Group, a healthcare marketing firm

The Weinbach Group knows how to reach doctors here in Florida and throughout the nation.

The Weinbach Group, a nationally recognized healthcare marketing firm, announced today it added two new provider organizations, ChenMed Primary Care Centers and Kreative Kids Therapy, to its client roster. Both companies sought the Miami-based healthcare advertising agency for its expertise handling communications programs for companies in the health and medicine sector. In addition, the two new clients recognized The Weinbach Group for its unique ability to develop campaigns that reach multiple market segments, including prospective patients, physicians, and other referring professionals.

ChenMed owns and operates more than 50 primary care health centers in nine states. The company initially engaged the Miami ad agency to handle advertising for its South Florida clinics operating under the Chen Senior Medical Center brand, as well as its new facilities in Palm Beach County, which operate under the Dedicated Senior Medical Center brand. In addition, The Weinbach Group will be handling a major physician recruitment initiative for ChenMed.

“ChenMed’s unique approach to value-based care has propelled the growth of our company,” said Alison Leon, managing director of marketing for ChenMed. “To keep pace with our rapid expansion, we’re about to hire as many as 150 primary care physicians. We need an advertising agency that understands healthcare inside out. The Weinbach Group knows how to reach doctors here in Florida and throughout the nation.”

Kreative Kids Therapy, which provides therapeutic interventions for children with developmental delays, likewise sought The Weinbach Group’s healthcare marketing know-how as well as the agency’s healthcare public relations experience. Doral, Fla.-based Kreative Kids Therapy provides hundreds of children and families with speech, occupational, and physical therapy. It recently opened a new location in Pinecrest, and The Weinbach Group’s advertising will play an instrumental role in the company’s patient growth efforts. In addition, the firm will develop communications aimed at developing and solidifying referral relationships with pediatricians, neurologists, psychiatrists, and psychologists.

For Kreative Kids Therapy, The Weinbach Group anticipates focusing heavily on digital marketing, and it plans to launch contemporaneous campaigns in English and Spanish.

Multiple Sclerosis Disability Progression Taking Place at Slower Rates Thanks to Advances in Medicine, According to Landmark Allegheny General Hospital Study

The average progression to heightened disability levels in patients diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) takes place at a much slower rate than previously thought, according to a landmark study just published in the International Journal of MS Care by researchers from the Allegheny Health Network (AHN) Neuroscience Institute at Allegheny General Hospital (AGH) in Pittsburgh. The study points to advancing clinical therapies and education as a primary reason for improved prognosis and outcomes compared to natural history studies and previously reported data.

Titled ‘Outcomes in a Modern Cohort of Treated MS Patients Followed from Diagnosis up to 15 Years,’ the AGH report is one of the longest running and most detailed longitudinal studies of its type ever published, following patients diagnosed with MS up to 15 years from the onset of early symptoms.

“In the field of MS research, the most widely cited natural history studies involve the pretreatment era of a patient’s journey. The publication of our work is an exciting advancement in the world of MS care as it provides insight into better outcomes over the past few decades. The improvement is in part due to our ability to incorporate new therapies that improve a person’s quality of life and slow progression rates,” said Thomas Scott, MD, AHN neurologist and chief researcher in the study.

MS is a degenerative condition in which an abnormal response of the body’s immune system is directed against the central nervous system i.e. the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves. The immune system causes inflammation that damages protective insulation of the nerves as well as the nerves themselves.

Symptoms of the disease can include visual problems, tremors, unsteady gait and numbness or weakness in one or more limbs. For the majority of those diagnosed, the journey of MS will worsen at times, with periods of intermittent disease remission or improvement. In the long-term, some may become disabled due to weakness and lose various motor functions involving coordinated movements.

One hundred and eighty four newly diagnosed patients followed at AGH MS Treatment Center met criteria for the study, among all MS patients seen there from 1989 through 2006. Most of the patients were examined at least yearly from the point of initial diagnosis and were followed on average for 13 years.

In the study, measurement of outcomes was based on the expanded disability status scale (EDSS) ranging from 0.0 of ‘no disability’ through 6.0 which indicates ‘the use of a walking aid such as a cane or crutch to walk roughly 100 meters.’ It took about ten years for 25 percent of the patient population to reach 3.0 of ‘moderate disability’, and it took roughly 17 years for 25 percent of patients to reach an EDSS of 6.0.

“For patients who were observed throughout the duration of the study, we looked at them until they reached about 50 years old. At that time, just under 20 percent had become cane dependent needing support to walk more than one or two blocks. From a bird’s eye view, it looks like general progression of the disease has slowed, and far few patients are ever disabled, thanks to advances in clinical therapies, education and resources,” Dr. Scott said.

The landmark findings come on the heels of a related study published earlier this year by Dr. Scott’s group. Titled, ‘Multiple sclerosis relapses contribute to long-term disability,’ the work outlines the connection between a reduction of MS relapses through immunotherapy, and a resulting positive impact on the disease’s progression.

Further, it claims that prior studies may have overemphasized the role of slow progressive degenerative changes compared to autoimmune flares. Incomplete recovery from these flares or ‘relapses’ was the predominant type of worsening seen in the earliest years, and although it eventually declined, it remained an important cause of disability throughout the first 15 years from initial diagnosis.

“Together, our studies share an important voice in the ongoing conversation classifying MS as a predominantly autoimmune condition instead of a degenerative one. Through these findings, we begin to open a larger window of opportunities for clinicians to better understand and treat patients. For patients and their loved ones, I think we’re also shedding more light on the disease which in turn can lend to a healthier peace of mind and hope for a promising future.”

In addition to Dr. Scott, other AGH researchers and MS specialists who contributed to the study include Troy Desai, MD, Chris Hackett, MS, Edward J. Gettings, MD, Teresa Hentosz, BS, Wisam Elmalik, MD and Carol J. Schramke, PhD.

“Allegheny Health Network’s Neuroscience Institute is committed to advancing the frontier of disease management for complex heath conditions through innovative research and early adoption of technologies and therapies that are life-changing for patients,” said Don Whiting, MD, AHN Chief Medical Officer and Chair of the AHN Neuroscience Institute. “We applaud the work of this exceptional team led by Dr. Scott. Together, they are enhancing our understanding of MS and setting the stage for ever improving treatments that offer new hope for those who develop it.”

180 Medical Announces Expansion of New Product Line with Incontinence Products

News Image

We’ve spent nearly two decades working hard to provide the best service and supplies to anyone who needs us. It’s an honor to be able to touch even more lives with the kind of care we’re truly privileged to provide.

180 Medical, a leading nationwide supplier of intermittent catheters and ostomy supplies, is proud to announce they now offer incontinence products. This new expansion of their supply line allows them to extend their highly reviewed customer service and top-quality incontinence supplies for patients living with urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, and other medical conditions that may cause neurogenic bladder and/or neurogenic bowel.

After living with a spinal cord injury for ten years, Todd Brown founded 180 Medical in 2002. During the decade before 180 Medical’s launch, Brown dealt with frequent urinary tract infections, which affected his health and energy, and he couldn’t find a medical supply company with staff that understood or cared about his needs. Once he discovered sterile-use catheters and other urological supplies, he felt like his quality of life made a 180° turnaround. Todd knew other people also needed a reliable company where they could receive proper care, compassion, and medical supplies that could help turn their lives around too. This led him to create 180 Medical.

180 Medical, a subsidiary of ConvaTec, is glad to provide incontinence supplies as a way to touch even more lives with the kind, knowledgeable service for which 180 Medical has become known by so many customers and healthcare professionals across the country. 180 Medical is contracted with Medicare, state Medicaid plans, and an ever-growing number of private insurance plans.

“It’s an exciting time for us at 180 Medical,” says Mark Jassey, Chief Commercial Officer of 180 Medical. “We’ve spent nearly two decades working hard to provide the best service and supplies to anyone who needs us. It’s an honor to be able to touch even more lives with the kind of care we’re truly privileged to provide.”

180 Medical now offers a wide range of insurance-covered incontinence supplies, including pull-on protective underwear, adult diapers and briefs, children’s training pants, baby diapers, urinary bladder pads, incontinence liners, male guards, booster pads, and underpads (chux) to protect mattresses, bedding, and chairs. 180 Medical provides incontinence products from a wide range of the top manufacturers and incontinence supply brands in the nation today, such as Tranquility, TENA, First Quality, Prevail, Cuties, Comfees, Attends, and Covidien (Cardinal Health).

As one of America’s top providers of intermittent catheter supplies, ostomy products, and now a wide range of incontinence products, 180 Medical is excited for more opportunities to impact lives all over the United States positively.

Graham’s Foundation Welcomes AngelEye Health CEO to Board

News Image

Graham’s Foundation, the global support organization for families facing the challenges of premature birth, is pleased to announce that Christopher Rand, the Chief Executive Officer of AngelEye Health, a provider of virtual patient engagement solutions, has joined its board of directors.

“We started Graham’s Foundation because, in spite of the incredible support we received during our twins’ time in the NICU, we felt like we were barely surviving,” says Nick Hall, founder of Graham’s Foundation. “Getting to hold our son, Graham, and hearing from our nurses that he knew he was being held, meant the world. That’s when I knew we had to help make a difference for future parents of extremely early preemies. That’s why I’m so glad to have Christopher on our board. He gets it, and his company gets it.”

“Both AngelEye and Graham’s Foundation share the common goal of giving families the support they need while their child is in the NICU,” says Rand. “They are wholly committed to support, comfort, inform, and guide families who experience premature birth, and our technology enables their ability to accomplish their mission.”

The AngelEye Health Virtual Care Platform enables parents, families, and care teams to stay connected when their newborns and children are in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). AngelEye offers live-stream video, real-time family chat, and HIPAA-compliant, one-way multimedia updates between parents and the care team.

A recent integration of InJoy Health Education’s content enhances a hospital’s ability to provide parents with material tailored for their baby’s specific condition upon admission and up to 90 days post-discharge.

About Graham’s Foundation

Our vision is a world where no parent goes through the experience of prematurity alone. The mission is to support, comfort, inform and guide families who experience premature birth. By collaborating with the healthcare community and parents of preemies, we improve the well-being of preterm babies and families. Our support programs are designed to meet their unique needs. They include NICU, transition home, and remembrance care package programs, trained parent mentors, MyPreemie the market-leading app for parents of preemies, and access to online communities with tens of thousands of engaged parents making new connections. Costs of Care Presents Steven Schroeder Award for Outstanding Healthcare CEO to Mr. John A. DiAngelo at The Leapfrog Group Annual Awards Dinner

Mr. John A. DiAngelo, President and CEO of Inspira Health – winner of this year’s Steven Schroeder Award for Outstanding Healthcare CEO

“We appreciate this recognition of Inspira Health’s overall accomplishments…I share this award with the entire Inspira team, and our many community partners.” – Mr. DiAngelo

The influential Steven Schroeder Award for Outstanding Healthcare CEO was presented once again at The Leapfrog Group’s annual Awards Dinner in Washington, D.C. tonight. This year’s recipient was Mr. John A. DiAngelo, President and CEO of Inspira Health in New Jersey.

The award was created by Costs of Care, a leading non-profit dedicated to curating and disseminating insights from the frontlines of health care to help delivery systems provide better care at lower cost, to recognize a hospital and/or health system CEO who has demonstrated courageous and ethical leadership addressing the twin issues of affordability and quality of health care in their community.

“Patients want to know that health care leaders are doing all we can to ensure that they receive the best health care in a way that is as affordable as possible,” said Chris Moriates, MD, Executive Director of Costs of Care. “Addressing patient affordability will require new solutions and brave leadership.”

Mr. DiAngelo has led the charge in supporting underserved populations through Inspira’s involvement with the Cumberland County Housing First Collaborative (CCHFC). This unique consortium of social service organizations, faith-based institutions and government officials follows the Housing First model to tackle chronic homelessness, with the goal of ending homelessness in the county by 2020. The movement is part of a broader effort to understand and address social determinants of health – poverty, access to nutritious food, violent surroundings, etc. – that play a role in managing and preventing diseases, and affect overall health.

The Outstanding Healthcare CEO award is named in honor of Steven Schroeder, MD, Distinguished Professor of Health and Health Care at the University of California San Francisco and former President and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Dr. Schroeder has spent five decades inspiring and mentoring leaders to forcefully advocate for better quality and more affordable health care, and he has inspired leaders of both Costs of Care and The Leapfrog Group.

Dr. Schroeder said about this year’s winner, “John DiAngelo has shown that health systems can contribute to the health of the community they serve, and can do so in an affordable manner. His work models the values and programs that distinguish excellent medical systems, and he is most worthy of this award.”

“We appreciate this recognition of Inspira Health’s overall accomplishments in the areas of patient safety, clinical quality and reducing health care costs. I share this award with the entire Inspira team, and our many community partners,” said Mr. DiAngelo.

“Great health system leaders know that quality and affordability go hand-in-hand,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “With this award we’re pleased to join with Costs of Care in recognizing a CEO who tackles patient safety, quality, and cost simultaneously, and as a result provides better care to the community.”

About Costs of Care

Costs of Care is a nonprofit organization dedicated to curating and broadly disseminating insights from the front lines of health care to help delivery systems provide better care at lower cost. Since 2009, Costs of Care has collected more than 500 personal accounts from physicians, nurses, and patients all over the United States that illustrate routine and high yield opportunities to improve the value of care delivery through improved decision-making. Shriners Hospitals for Children to Participate in 131st Rose Parade Presented by Honda

News Image

For the tenth consecutive year, Shriners Hospitals for Children® will participate in the 131st Rose Parade presented by Honda. Eight representatives will ride on the float entitled Hope Knows No Limits. The float expresses the hope that can be seen in every aspect of the work and the mission of Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Our float depicts one result of the presence of hope: joy and acceptance – seen through the carefree exuberance of children sharing a day at the playground. Hope gives them the freedom to enjoy their childhood. Our mascot, Fezzy®, marks his eighth appearance on our Rose Parade floats by joining the children in the playground – the one who is part of the float design, and four patients whose lives are a showcase for hope every day. Madelyn and Cristian, our National Patient Ambassadors, are joined by patients and local residents, Monserrath and Gianna. Also riding on the float are Imperial Potentate Jeff Sowder and First Lady Cheryl, and Imperial Chaplain Bobby Simmons and his wife Nancy.

Our entry, Hope Knows No Limits, celebrates the joyful, carefree spirit of childhood that is born of hope. For our patients, hope guides everything – from the ability to enjoy and participate in what are typically everyday experiences, to believing in the future and the ability to contribute to society, from endless resilience and perseverance, and even being accepted and welcomed. Hope is a strong current underlying everything we do at Shriners Hospitals for Children – including offering care for complex medical conditions, conducting research to discover answers and create new and better treatments, and offering medical education opportunities to share knowledge that extends our reach to even more children.

The parade’s theme of The Power of Hope is illustrated throughout our float. In fact, even our title, Hope Knows No Limits, can be seen as a description of the parade theme. Hope is present in the joyful abandon of the characters of the float itself, and in the hearts and minds of the patients riding on the float, who demonstrate the power and the limitless nature of hope in their lives every day, as they go on to dream big and achieve more than even they can imagine. Shriners Hospitals for Children are places where hope and healing meet, and lives are changed.

The Shriners Hospitals for Children float will be on display for pre-judging, and float riders will be available for media interviews starting at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2019, at Phoenix Decorating Co., Rose Float Plaza South, 5400 Irwindale Ave., Irwindale, California.
