MDToolbox Receives Updated Surescripts Certification and Helps Prescribers Meet National and State Mandates

MDToolbox is committed to providing e-prescribing technology that is continually increasing prescription accuracy, patient safety, and provider efficiency.

Leading e-Prescribing software vendor, MDToolbox, is focused on helping prescribers meet national and state electronic prescribing requirements. MDToolbox announced today that its e-Prescribing solution, MDToolbox-Rx, has received an updated certification from Surescripts that meets the National Council for Prescription Drug Program’s (NCPDP) SCRIPT Standard v2017071 for sending and receiving electronic prescription information.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requires this new standard to be used by providers transmitting prescriptions electronically in the Medicare Prescription Drug Benefit (Part D) program by January 1, 2020. However, many electronic health record vendors are struggling to meet this fast approaching deadline.

The upgrade to the new e-Prescribing standard brings exciting new features in MDToolbox-Rx that decrease the provider’s workload, increase patient safety, and improve prescription accuracy. These include:

  • The ability to automatically include Narcotic Addiction DEA Number (NADEAN) or XDEA numbers with relevant controlled substance prescriptions.
  • Automatic inclusion of patient drug allergies and vitals with prescriptions.
  • Expansion of messaging types and additional messaging fields – physicians now have the ability to not only utilize cancel and change requests, but also follow-up renewals and fill notifications along with other comprehensive features.
  • Increased character limit for directions, allowing for more thorough instructions for complicated prescriptions.
  • Enhanced support for future fill requests – eliminating extra clicks and streamlining the ability to make multiple future fill requests.

Along with the national CMS deadline, MDToolbox is also helping prescribers meet their state e-Prescribing regulations. These state laws range from requiring Electronic Prescribing of Controlled Substances (EPCS) to requiring both controlled and non-controlled prescriptions be sent electronically. Several states already have laws in effect, while others’ deadlines are just around the corner. The following states have upcoming requirements beginning January 1st, 2020:

  • Arizona
  • Florida
  • Iowa
  • North Carolina
  • Oklahoma
  • Rhode Island

=

In addition to meeting state laws to transmit prescriptions electronically, MDToolbox also helps prescribers easily meet requirements to check their state Prescription Monitoring Programs (PMPs). Half of all US states have passed legislation requiring that the databases be checked before prescribing controlled substances in an effort to combat the opioid epidemic. MDToolbox offers the ability to integrate state PMP data directly into a prescribers’ e-Prescribing workflow. The feature allows prescribers to check a patient’s controlled substance prescription history in just one click, going directly to the patient’s record and eliminating the need to login separately and search for the patient. This convenient tool saves healthcare providers time, serves as a reminder to check their state PMP database, and makes it easy for providers to keep up with their state regulations.

“MDToolbox is committed to providing e-prescribing technology that is continually increasing prescription accuracy, patient safety, and provider efficiency,” stated Michael Conner, Director of Business Development at MDToolbox. “We are excited to be at the forefront of implementing the new SCRIPT standard as we make it a priority to stay ahead of the continuously changing regulations and standards so that our providers can focus on patient care.”

Medpricer Expands its GPO-Agnostic Platform to New and Existing Partners

“[Our customers’] faith in us is why Q3 of the 2019 calendar year was a milestone for our company and technology. As our product development and innovation steadily continues, we’re on track to exceed our goals for both this quarter and the remainder of the year,” said Medpricer CEO Chris Gormley.

Medpricer, one of the nation’s leading technology-based solutions to optimize healthcare provider savings across purchased services contracts, today announced that it has expanded its GPO-agnostic platform to new and existing customers. The company, owned by Premier Inc. (NASDAQ: PINC), continues to exceed its growth goals, having signed multiple new agreements this year and increasing its total contract value.

New payer acquisition

Most recently, the team welcomed a West coast not-for-profit regional medical center, a Southern teaching system and cancer treatment center, an East Coast university healthcare network and a Midwest health system to its customer roster.

“While the industry continues to shift its focus to GPO-agnostic technology solutions, our user base has steadily grown,” said Medpricer’s Chief Customer Officer Mickey Meehan. “We work with the nation’s leading healthcare organizations to understand the industry’s constraints and produce exciting new solutions that give sourcing professionals more control over their data, productivity and contract outcomes.”

Expanding contract value

Multiple customers, regardless of GPO affiliation, have renewed or expanded their partnerships with Medpricer to include subscriptions to the industry’s leading purchased services analytics and sourcing software to supplement its sourcing teams’ needs. With Medpricer’s sourcing services, its team of experts work together with sourcing teams to analyze purchased services sourcing data and determine optimal savings strategies by category.

Amplified customer success

Medpricer’s customized, data-driven approach provides its customers with a competitive edge to make sound business decisions quickly. New and existing customers recognize that the company’s data, sourcing speed, and industry-rich analytics sets Medpricer solutions apart from the rest of the industry. In the last six months, an Arizona-based health system identified $2.6 million savings using Medpricer’s cognitive analytics software. Another southwest regional medical center facing a 30 percent cost increase negotiated 10 percent savings on linen services with Medpricer’s Precision Benchmark Report. Additionally, a Michigan-based health system initiated six RFPs within 20 days of onboarding.

Accelerated development plan

Medpricer continues to be well positioned to drive further growth following its acquisition. In October, Premier, Inc. acquired the organization, through a strategic deal that fuels Medpricer’s commercial reach and product development capabilities.

“We hear it again and again from our customers; Medpricer’s market intelligence coupled with speed to savings is a gamechanger. Their faith in us is why Q3 of the 2019 calendar year was a milestone for our company and technology. As our product development and innovation steadily continues, we’re on track to exceed our goals for both this quarter and the remainder of the year,” said Medpricer CEO Chris Gormley. “We’ve listened to our customers’ needs and have been able to tailor our solutions to those, ensuring we offer the most robust services.”

EVRL Cold Laser Therapy Comes to Cutting Edge NYC Practice

Dr. Shoshany uses the portable EVRL purple laser to help a fitness athlete in NYC.

The EVRL Cold Laser in NYC

If it makes my life easier and takes less time to set up, that means more one on one time with patients. That’s not something you see anymore in most practices. That is what sets us apart. We get the patient back to where they want to be, not just back to normal, we help them excel past recovery.

Dr. Shoshany’s legions of satisfied patients know well how much he likes using lasers as ancillary treatments for pain and injuries. Not satisfied with the three existing hot and cold laser devices, last year Dr. Shoshany added the FX-635 which also holds FDA approval for chronic lower back pain and plantar fasciitis.

While he’s been getting amazing results with the FX-635, Dr. Shoshany also decided to add the latest Erchonia laser, known as the EVRL. What makes this laser unique is it offers red light therapy, which is what most medical laser devices output, but the EVRL also outputs a violet laser frequency. In mathematical terms, the wavelengths are between 4 and 500 nanometers, so it has great applications. The light is also both antimicrobial anti-bacterial.

Patients complaining of neck pain, back pain or even knee pain now have an even easier time undergoing non-invasive treatment. With all these advanced attributes combined, Dr. Shoshany is getting extraordinary results without drugs, and without surgery.

The application of the laser lasts about 3 minutes, so after an adjustment, before undergoing spinal decompression, a provider can quickly use the laser on the neck or back. This allows the use of additional ancillary treatments to help manage pain and speed healing without adding a lot more time to each visit. And the addition of the EVRL is not limited to an already unrivaled class-leading spinal decompression protocol. Violet laser light is not just a colored diode, it operates on a different wavelength, and may demonstrate different recovery properties. When combined with the red laser, we have a new and unique combination not seen before in the field of light therapy. The device’s individually programmable heads put out different frequencies at the same time so several different symptoms can be addressed with the same EVRL device.

When asked about his favorite attribute of the EVRL Laser, Dr. Shoshany says, “I love portability and ease of use. If it makes my life easier and takes less time to set up, that means more one on one time with patients. That’s not something you see anymore in most practices. That is what sets us apart. We get the patient back to where they want to be, not just back to normal, we help them excel past recovery.”

Whether it is simply pain, inflammation, or rotator cuff tendonitis, adding this laser to any treatment protocol can speed a patient’s tissue healing, getting patients back to their routine functional and pain-free quickly. If you’re a patient looking to learn about the new EVRL, or want to learn how Dr. Shoshany and his team integrate the EVRL laser into physical therapy and chiropractic applications, please call us at 212 645 8151.

Innovations that utilize everything from artificial intelligence, data, and analytics to virtual reality are creating better health outcomes for the population as whole. Doctors and health systems have been slow to adopt these crucial technologies, but it is key to improving the quality of care that is provided.

The print component of “Connected Health” is distributed within today’s edition of USA Today in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, New York, Boston and Washington DC markets, with a circulation of approximately 200,000 copies and an estimated readership of 600,000. The digital component is distributed nationally, through a vast social media strategy, and across a network of top news sites and partner outlets. Mikhail Varshavski, better known as Dr. Mike graces the cover of the print publication. Through an exclusive interview on the interior, Dr. Mike explains his take on the digital transformation within healthcare. He encourages doctors to utilize social media to interact with patients. “It fosters a very healthy doctor-patient conversation. When patients come into my office after they’ve seen so much of my content, we can start talking about their conditions as if we’ve known each other for much longer than ten minutes.”

Doctor Mike is a board-certified family medicine physician focusing on health education and disease prevention. One of the leading names in medicine on and offline, Doctor Mike has amassed a global following of over eight million subscribers. He advocates for evidence-based healthcare and is active in combating misinformation both online and on television.

This campaign was made possible with the support of HIMMS, Dr. Mike, AHIP, Northwestern University, Trapollo, Total Brain, Savonix, Department of Human and Health Services, Deloitte and Convey Health Solutions.
