Women’s Excellence Offers Minimally Invasive Treatment Options for Urinary Incontinence

News Image

Urinary incontinence is a common ailment that many women face. This life altering and often embarrassing condition can be treated. Women’s Excellence offers a variety of minimally invasive treatment solutions for women suffering from urinary leakage.

Urinary incontinence is the involuntary leakage of urine or loss of bladder control. This type of urinary leakage is caused from pressure or stress on the bladder caused from everyday actions like coughing, sneezing, lifting heavy items, or even laughing.

Dr. Jonathan Zaidan, MD, FACOG, President of Women’s Excellence understands the severity of this common problem. “Leaking when you laugh or sneeze? Talk about a life-altering problem! Although bladder leakage can be common for most women as they age, it is important to understand that urinary leakage is not normal!” says Dr. Zaidan. “Our team at Women’s Excellence takes a comprehensive approach to these types of problems because every woman is different and there is not a one-size-fits-all approach to bladder problems.”

Before a treatment plan is created, Women’s Excellence utilizes convenient in-office testing modalities like urodynamics and cystoscopy to evaluate and assess how the patient’s bladder stores and releases urine and to look directly into the bladder to visually identify any bladder abnormalities.

New Offering From Breach Clarity Gives Financial Institutions Hyper-Personalized, Customer-Level Breach Risk Intelligence

Fraud prevention and detection technology firm Breach Clarity, which analyzes and scores every publicly reported U.S. data breach based on more than 1,000 factors, has developed a new machine learning platform for financial service providers to enable highly targeted protections for customers. Underpinned by a proprietary algorithm developed by data security expert Jim Van Dyke, the platform offers two sets of tools: one for the provider and another for the consumer.

Earlier this year, Van Dyke launched BreachClarity.com, a consumer site that offers no-cost access to a searchable database of breaches, their respective Breach Clarity Scores and the most relevant protective actions. The database now includes more than 4,000 incidents, and is growing at an average rate of 50 breaches each week.

According to Van Dyke, Breach Clarity Premium for Financial Services solves several of the most common problems faced by banks, credit unions, card issuers and other financial providers after a public data breach. “Financial institutions are in a bad spot when it comes to data breach fallout,” said Van Dyke. “These breaches, most of which they have zero control over, are coming fast and furious, yet the actual damage can take years to occur. We first developed Breach Clarity to help the consumer fight back against the routine theft of their personal information. Now, we’re equipping their financial providers with much greater intelligence to help them strengthen everyone’s financial health.”

For the provider, Breach Clarity Premium generates:

Clarity around impacted customers and stolen data – Breach Clarity Premium identifies and analyzes breaches affecting the customer. The platform factors the types of personally identifiable information (PII) exposed in any particular breach to predict the types of identity fraud risk it creates. It also generates recommendations on the most effective actions to mitigate both the consumer and the financial provider’s losses.

Easier security activation for customers – To empower their customers in the fight against identity theft and other breach-originating crimes, most financial institutions provide their customers with at least one security control tool or feature. The tools are often expensive for the financial provider, and on average, not many customers use them. Breach Clarity Premium plugs seamlessly into online and mobile banking apps to create a simple, event-driven pathway for customers to activate those controls.

Reduction in contact center volume – Inbound calls, emails and chats can swell to unmanageable levels during news reports of a major data breach. Breach Clarity Premium helps address customers’ concerns and questions after a data breach, eliminating the need to engage the financial provider through other channels.

For the customer, Breach Clarity Premium provides:

  • A simple, trusted alternative to today’s onslaught of news related to identity scams and fraud, provided directly through their financial provider’s online banking or mobile app.
  • Powerful information on the risks created by each data breach affecting them, including a Breach Clarity Score and incident-specific action steps.
  • A custom breach history that includes all breaches impacting the customer.
  • The ability to locate breaches the customer may be unaware of using only their email address.

“A platform like this is what the financial services industry has been missing,” said Tom Shaw, Breach Clarity advisory board member and former VP of financial crimes management for USAA. “Banks and credit unions are deploying all kinds of strategies and technologies to protect the institution and the customer from the fallout of data breaches. Rarely are those response mechanisms tailored precisely to the customers impacted. Breach Clarity has figured out how enable a hyper-personalized response, and to do it at scale.”

About Breach Clarity

Breach Clarity’s proprietary, machine learning algorithm instantly analyzes more than 1,000 elements to score the risk level of a data breach. Each publicly reported data breach in the U.S. receives a Breach Clarity Score on a simple numerical scale, typically from 1 to 10. Breach Clarity’s dynamic algorithm and easy-to-use interface runs on the most comprehensive source of data breaches in the U.S., maintained and updated continuously by the Identity Theft Resource Center. Biomechanical Analysis of Inspan Spinous Process Fixation Alone in The Lumbar Spine Demonstrates Positive Results

Inspan ScrewLES Fusion

INSPAN LLC (a privately-owned company) is pleased to announce the positive results from a biomechanical analysis of spinous process fixation alone or with facet screws in the lumbar spine using the Inspan interspinous fixation device (INSPAN LLC). Unlike extension block design, the Inspan device fixates the spine to allow for immediate stability, distraction, decompression, and fusion. Biomechanical assessments of interspinous process fixation have demonstrated particularly advantageous outcomes in stabilizing the sagittal plane for during flexion and extension. Biomechanical studies of the Inspan device suggest it may be the strongest interspinous fixation device on the market and thus is being used for spinal fusion replacing the traditional method that uses pedicle screws and interbodies with laminectomies.

The study was performed at the LESS Institute by Professor Dr. Kingsley R Chin, MD, a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon and coauthors Dr. Fabio Pencle and Dr. Jason Seale.

Human cadaveric spines were biomechanically tested under the following conditions: 1) intact/control; 2) Inspan only, 3) Inspan with facet screws (FS), 4) Inspan with lateral interbody fixation (LIF), 5) Inspan with LIF and FS. Each test consisted of 100 N of axial preload with ± 7.5 Nm of torque in flexion/extension (FE), right/left lateral bending (LB), and right/left axial rotation (AR).

The study showed a decrease in flexion-extension, lateral bending and axial bending in all conditions compared to intact control. Adding facet screws does not improve stability during flexion/extension (already best loading mode for spine process plating). With LIF, each point of fixation added (FS or Inspan) incrementally improves stability by about the same amount during lateral bending and axial rotation.

In conclusion, Inspan proved effective biomechanically in increasing foraminal height and restricting flexion/extension motion. Other effects without LIF, Inspan is moderately effective in restricting axial rotation or lateral bending. With the LIF interbody, testing showed better stability than no LIF. The addition of Inspan to lumbar fixation increases foraminal height by 1mm minimum.

About INSPAN, LLC

INSPAN, LLC is privately owned by KICVentures and is focused on advancing the platform of patented interspinous fixation technology. The Inspan device has a proven ten-year track record with thousands implanted since FDA-clearance in 2010.

Inspan FDA Indications

The Inspan Slim Spinous Process Plate System is a posterior non-pedicle supplemental fixation system intended for use in the non-cervical spine (T1-S1). It is intended for plate fixation/attachment to the spinous process for the purpose of achieving supplemental fusion for the following indications: spondylolisthesis, trauma (fracture ordislocation), tumor, or degenerative disc disease (defined as discogenic pain with degeneration of the disc confirmed by history and radiographic studies). The device is intended for use with bone graft material and is not intended for stand-alone use.

It also is a time to celebrate our accomplishments!” remarked Jose Alejandro, CMSA President.

This year there will be 8 pre-conference sessions, including new areas of focus such as hospice/palliative care, mentoring and leadership. CMSA executive director, Kathleen Fraser, remarked “Every summer our conference offers case managers a mid-year check-in on their careers – an opportunity to connect with colleagues, access timely clinical updates and be exposed to new resources. On our 30th anniversary, we’ll celebrate how far case management has come and look to the future to see what’s possible to achieve, together.”

CMSA continues to forge the future for this rapidly expanding healthcare profession. Through educational content, resources, exhibits, technology, public policy and peer-to-peer networking, attendees can create a custom experience that meets their specialized professional needs.
