UICC Selects ASCP to Host Prestigious 2021 World Cancer Leaders’ Summit in Boston, MA, October 2021

“ASCP is honored to be chosen by the UICC in this highly competitive selection process. It underscores the vital role that pathology and laboratory medicine play in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer,” said E. Blair Holladay, PhD, MASCP, SCT(ASCP)CM, Chief Executive Officer

The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) has been selected to host the 2021 World Cancer Leaders’ Summit in Boston, MA, in October 2021. The prestigious, invitation-only event—organized by the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC)—annually brings together key decision makers including prime ministers, ministers of health, city and industry leaders, senior executives and other influential players from around the world to facilitate debates about emerging issues related to cancer control. More than 400 global influencers and leaders in cancer control and public health from across governments, United Nations agencies, academia, nonprofit organizations and the private sector are expected to make their way to Boston in October 2021. The Summit will occur the day before the ASCP’s 2021 Annual Meeting, to be held October 27-29, in Boston.

“ASCP is honored to be chosen by the UICC in this highly competitive selection process,” said E. Blair Holladay, PhD, MASCP, SCT(ASCP)CM, Chief Executive Officer. “It underscores the vital role that pathology and laboratory medicine play in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. We are excited to be the voice of our profession in this endeavor to develop a coordinated and effective response to the global cancer epidemic.”

For the WCLS in 2021, in addition to a strong partnership with the City of Boston and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, 17 US-based organizations are supporting the event including Partners Healthcare, Massachusetts General Hospital, Partners in Health, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, MD Anderson Cancer Center, UCSF Helen Diller Cancer Center, The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, American Cancer Society, American Society for Clinical Oncology, Susan G. Komen Foundation, Global Oncology, Oncology Nursing Society, International Society of Nurses Cancer Care, RTI International, The Max Foundation, and Project ECHO.

“The overwhelming support from some of our key collaborators has been amazing, and ASCP is truly excited to expand our umbrella of collaboration to include other cancer organizations around the world as we strive to provide the best possible meeting in which all voices are represented,” said ASCP President Gene P. Siegal, MD, PhD, FASCP.

The UICC, the largest and oldest international cancer-fighting organization, made the announcement following its February board meeting.

“The choice of Boston is rooted in the city’s crucial role in global cancer innovation and domestic cancer control leadership in the United States,” said Dr. Cary Adams, Chief Executive Officer of the UICC. “With many of the country’s thought health leaders in Boston, the 2021 Summit will launch renewed domestic and global efforts to combat the disease.”

The 2021 Summit focus will be developed in the coming months and will center around both domestic challenges for cancer in the United States as well as global challenges in cancer. For the past five years, the Summit has grown to become a major, annual high-level policy meeting dedicated exclusively to furthering global cancer control. It provides an important forum to secure a coordinated, multi-level global response to address the spiraling cancer epidemic. The last World Cancer Leaders’ Summit in Kazakhstan ended with a strong call to action urging governments to fulfil their commitments to Universal Health Coverage.

The Summit is held in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and is hosted by a UICC-member organization from the region.

“The patient is at the center of all that we do as pathologists and medical laboratory professionals,” said ASCP CMO, Dan Milner, MD, MSc, FASCP. “Taking this message and this requirement for equitable cancer care to the thought leaders of the world can be an incredible force for change for our patients. Doing so in Boston, an epicenter of biotechnology, clinical care, public health, and education, will be paramount to successful change.”

ASCP is the world’s largest organization for pathologists and laboratory professionals supporting activity in more than 100 countries. The Society’s global health initiatives have focused on HIV and cancer, with efforts on the latter currently taking place in more than 20 countries and in collaboration with more than 80 organizations, from academia to industry, governments and NGOs.

Dr. Edward Halusic Replaces Over 7,000 Missing Teeth with Dental Implants in Mt. Pleasant and Greensburg, PA

Dr. Edward Halusic, Oral Surgeon in Greensburg, PA

Oral Surgeon, Dr. Edward Halusic, Places Over 7,000 Dental Implants in Greensburg, PA

Dental implants provide a permanent tooth replacement solution to missing teeth and loose or ill-fitting dentures.

Renowned oral surgeon, Dr. Edward Halusic, has now placed over 7,000 dental implants for patients in Mt. Pleasant and Greensburg, PA with missing teeth. Always at the forefront of implantology, Dr. Halusic keeps his practice, The Facial Surgery Center, up to date with the latest technology and provides the most advanced treatment in the industry. In addition to individual dental implants, Dr. Halusic offers All-on-4® full mouth dental implant treatment guided by CHROME™ GuidedSMILE™ technology to help patients permanently replace broken or missing teeth.

Dr. Halusic has over 35 years of experience as a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Early in the rise of modern dental implants, Dr. Halusic realized 3D imaging plays an instrumental role in providing quality dental implant care. As a result, he was one of the first oral surgeons to have a CT scan in his office, which is something frequently only offered at hospitals. He was also the first surgeon in the world to perform All-on-4 reconstructive surgery using CHROME guided technology.

CHROME technology provides preplanned, predictable guides for dental implant surgeons. CHROME creates a digital workflow and physical guides to direct an oral surgeon to place the implants in the precise location for the most accurate and longest-lasting results. This technology not only reduces the length of the surgery, but it also reduces prosthetic complications and increases the implants’ long-term success rate.

Dental implants provide a permanent tooth replacement solution to missing teeth and loose or ill-fitting dentures. A dental implant is a titanium post that is gently inserted into the jawbone and topped with a dental crown. The dental crown is customized to match the patient’s facial aesthetics and personal preferences. Unlike traditional dentures, which provide only a 10% chewing efficiency compared to natural teeth, the crowns on dental implants are made of such strong material, they can fully restore a patient’s ability to speak and chew.

Dr. Halusic provides cutting-edge dental implant treatment along with his associate, Dr. Christian Moore, at The Facial Surgery Center. For the convenience of their patients, they offer this service at two locations, with practices in Greensburg and Mt. Pleasant, PA.

Those looking for a permanent solution to replace missing teeth in Greensburg, Mt. Pleasant, and surrounding Pittsburgh, PA areas can connect with Drs. Halusic and Moore for a consultation. To schedule an appointment at The Facial Surgery Center, call 724-836-1060 for the Greensburg, PA location, 724-547-0999 for the Mt. Pleasant, PA location, or visit http://www.thefacialsurgerycenter.com.

R3 Stem Cell Teams Up With Veterans in Pain (VIP) to Offer Regenerative Therapies for Burn Pit Syndrome

R3 Stem Cell Heroes Program

R3 Stem Cell Teams Up With V.I.P. Program for Burn Pit Therapies

Burn Pit is a very difficult problem without answers with conventional treatments. Veterans make significant sacrifices for America, and the least we can do is try to help! We’re excited to team up with V.I.P. and hopefully improve quality of life.

The R3 Stem Cell Heroes Program has joined forces with Veterans In Pain, (V.I.P.), a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit, to provide groundbreaking exosome therapies for Veterans suffering from the devastating systemic effects of Burn Pit. The exosome procedures are being offered complimentary to Veterans.

WHAT IS BURN PIT:

During the OEF and OIF wars, government contractors burned up to 227 metric tons of hazardous waste at operating bases using jet fuel in large ground pits. Items burned included: batteries, medical waste, amputated body parts, plastics, ammunition, human waste, animal carcasses, rubber, chemicals, & more.

Exposure to these toxins has caused a traumatic impact on the lives of many service members and their families. Some of the devastating health conditions suffered by Veterans exposed include: neurological disorders, pulmonary diseases, rare forms of cancer, and many unexplained symptoms.

There have been thousands of deaths resulting from the invisible wounds of war, which represents the “Agent Orange” of a newer generation. Veterans In Pain, (V.I.P.) became aware of Burn Pit through an application received by Le Roy Torres, who will be the first Burn Pit Veteran to receive treatment through the V.I.P. and R3 partnership.

The free regenerative exosome procedures for Burn Pit will be taking place in Las Vegas at the R3 Stem Cell Training Course. In addition, over a dozen additional Veterans will receive free regenerative therapies who are suffering from joint pain and other ailments.

According to David Greene, MD, MBA, “Burn Pit is a very difficult problem without answers with conventional treatments. Veterans make significant sacrifices for America, and the least we can do is try to help! We’re excited to team up with V.I.P. and hopefully improve quality of life.”

VETERANS IN PAIN, (V.I.P.):

V.I.P. is the first IRS-Certified nonprofit to facilitate regenerative medical solutions for Veterans suffering from chronic pain, by connecting civilian physicians, with our country’s heroes, nationwide.

Founded by its President, Micaela Bensko, V.I.P. has currently provided almost $250,000 in value-of-services through its volunteer physician network for Veterans who had otherwise been told there was no solution to their chronic pain disease, that its late-onset could not be connected to service, or after years of trying, could not obtain access to a solution due to red-tape bureaucracy.

R3 STEM CELL:

Dr. David Greene, the Founder of R3 Stem Cell, an international stem cell network of regenerative specialists having conducted thousands of stem cell procedures, joined the V.I.P. Roster in 2020. It was this partnership between V.I.P. and the R3 Heroes program, through which V.I.P.’s Veterans suffering from Burn Pit, a condition which has no designated cure, have finally been offered hope.

BURN PIT VETERAN:

The first Veteran to undergo treatment within the R3-V.I.P. Exosome Pulmonary Therapy study is Le Roy Torres. Torres has suffered from Burn Pit for years, and is a Burn Pit advocate who in 2009, launched the go-to information site http://www.BurnPits360.org, and is championed with having been responsible for establishing the first government-sanctioned Burn Pit Veteran Registry.

MEDIA WELCOME:

Procedures will take place at the R3 Stem Cell Training Workshop in Henderson, NV on March 14th.

Inventory Optimization Solutions (IOS) Announces Advanced Urology Institute (AUI) has Received Q4 2019 Best Practice Award

“I wouldn’t want to do my job without IOS – their team is truly part of my business. They help solve problems and when I need an enhancement to the system, I pass it to IOS through my account manager. We’ve been able to suggest several key new features that are now part of Envi.” – Sonya DeMarco

Inventory Optimization Solutions (IOS) is pleased to announce Advanced Urology Institute (AUI) has received the Q4 2019 Best Practice Award. AUI has demonstrated outstanding capabilities in using the Envi® solution to reduce costs and manage supply chain across a diverse group of clinics and surgery centers. IOS continually identifies and shares best practices from customers to help educate the healthcare community on supply chain automation. Each quarter, IOS recognizes an organization demonstrating supply chain excellence.

About the Organization

AUI is a rapidly expanding urology group that includes clinics and ambulatory surgery centers in Florida and Georgia. With a mission to advance patient-centered urologic care, AUI was developed as a single-specialty physician-led organization to respond to the mounting changes in healthcare. With challenges faced by solo and small group practices, AUI has succeeded by combining geographically disparate urology groups and helping them function efficiently and effectively, while delivering the highest quality medical care to patients.

Setting Goals for Supply Chain

Sonya DeMarco, Director of Supply Chain Management, is responsible for cost control, inventory control and contracting at this rapidly growing organization. Five years ago, Sonya and the team selected Envi from IOS to manage their supply chain needs, with specific goals that included:

1)    Fully automated 3-way match

2)    Multi location capabilities

3)    A solution that can address growing needs, with the support needed to enable their expansion

4)    Reporting tools to create visibility at both the individual organization and enterprise level

Best Practice Improvements

“A day in the life of an Envi user at AUI involves an office manager or nurse, who logs into Envi and creates a requisition from their ‘favorites list,’ which is now a feature of the Envi solution that IOS developed based on our need for a user-specific template,” said DeMarco. “The user submits a requisition, which comes to my department for approval and transmit. When we became AUI, purchasing was the first thing we centralized. We stopped significant expense bleeding and today, can immediately identify any instances where we’re overcharged, charged for extraneous fees like expedited shipping, shipping and handling fees, or any other add-on charges. We’ve eliminated 100% of these charges and in the first year, saved nearly $100,000.”

As multiple locations came together to form AUI, and the initial 5 year plan called for even greater growth, it became clear that location capabilities varied, especially when it came to 3-way price matching. DeMarco continued, “Some systems could do two parts of the 3-way match but none could exchange data with our AP system, so we had to do manual matching. We knew that wouldn’t be sustainable, and with growth, we had to have 3-way match without manual intervention. We do this with Envi. We ship directly to facilities, where they receive and put away supplies. The corporate team ‘oversees’ the receiving process to make sure we have all parts of the 3-way match enabled. If that doesn’t happen, invoices can’t get paid, which is unacceptable, because we’re committed to good partnerships with our vendors.”

“I wouldn’t want to do my job without IOS – their team is truly part of my business,” concluded DeMarco. “They help solve problems and when I need an enhancement to the system, I pass it to IOS through my account manager. We’ve been able to suggest several key new features that are now part of Envi. Our physicians want to deliver the care that’s right for our patients, and with Envi, we maintain our patient focus and deliver the cost-effective care they need.”

Best Practice-based Processes

The team at AUI has demonstrated exceptional use of the Envi solution, and is recognized for their success in:

1.    Controlling purchasing with customized “favorites lists” for users

2.    Consolidating product formulary used at over 40 locations in six facilities

3.    Managing contracts and accurate contract pricing across enterprise

4.    Maintaining 3-way price matching to ensure correct prices charged and invoices seamlessly paid to vendor partners

5.    Using Envi reporting capabilities for both enterprise and facility level management

A Best Practice Based Community of Healthcare Organizations

IOS works with more than 5,000 healthcare facilities throughout the United States. As a result of this large footprint and broad range of users, IOS is able to identify, document and share best practices that are designed to help healthcare organizations improve their supply chain processes and overall results.

“We’re so pleased to partner with organizations like Advanced Urology Institute,” said Steve Britt, President, IOS. “Through our ongoing working relationship, we not only hear what’s working but also, what new features could enhance our user’s experiences. The team at AUI has helped us develop several key features that are now part of Envi, which today are being used in provider organizations throughout the U.S. It’s this type of collaboration – this partnership spirit – that enables our team to truly help Envi users solve their supply chain challenges.”

Bellus3D Announces Dental Pro 2.0

News Image

We believe that smiles begin with the face in mind. Dental Pro 2.0 allows clinicians to generate fast, easy and affordable 3D face scans, integrate those scans with intraoral and CBCT scans and then share them with dental labs to form a complete picture of the patient.

Bellus3D, Inc. a Silicon Valley startup formed by leading computer vision experts, is announcing Bellus3D Dental Pro 2.0, a major new release of its leading iOS 3D face scanning app for the dental market. The new release extends the capturing to include the new Bellus3D ARC multi-camera scanning system, and adds an online workflow via Bellus3D Face Cloud that allows dental specialists and dental labs to collaborate and accelerate high-value case acceptance.

In addition to supporting Apple iPad Pro and Apple iPhone X, Bellus3D Dental Pro 2.0 adds the support of Bellus 3D ARC systems. Bellus3D ARC is a revolutionary multi-camera 3D face scanning solution that captures professional grade, full 3D face scans in seconds. Bellus3D ARC can be configured from 1 to 7 smart depth-sensing WiFI cameras and works with a Windows 10 PC. ARC provides near instant capture with no moving parts and requires no movement by the subject.

Bellus3D Face Cloud provides a platform for viewing and manipulation of face scans within a browser in both desktop or mobile environments. Face Cloud accepts 3D face models created from both Bellus3D iOS app or the ARC system. The workflow allows clinicians to scan the patient’s face using ARC or a supported iOS device and then share that scan with the dental lab remotely. Integration with leading intraoral scanner providers, such as 3Shape and Dental Wings, allows the patient’s face to be aligned with the digital scan of the teeth and then integrated into the chairside and dental lab planning software to ensure proper 3D registration of the face scan to the dental surface scans for diagnostic, surgical and restorative smile design planning.

Dental Pro 2.0 features include:

  • Model Sharing–allows clinicians and labs to share face scans and collaborate on treatment plans
  • Workspace Sharing–dental labs can share designs with clinicians for case acceptance and approval
  • Visual Smile Aligner(™) tool to precisely align 3D face scan with dental .ply or .stl scans
  • Access to teeth library where labs and clinicians can select from dozens of sets of teeth for use in smile design
  • Lip Line Editor–ensures you can see the teeth clearly in the face
  • Aesthetic Guides–allows clinician to identify Midline, Interpupillary, Camper and Occlusal planes

“Dental Pro 2.0 allows clinicians to generate fast, easy and affordable 3D face scans, integrate those scans with intraoral and CBCT scans and then share them with dental labs to form a complete picture of the patient. We believe that smiles begin with the face in mind and this is the latest step in our goal of enabling product companies to bring a high level of personalization to their products,” said Eric Chen, CEO of Bellus3D, Inc.
