Their next product, Management of Change, was designed to help companies reduce the administrative burden of making changes in their regulated and non-regulated processes. Finally, Action Tracking software was developed to help companies to document incidents, audits and other safety-related events with custom web-based forms and manage corrective and preventive action items. All of these products were combined to offer the EHS Software Suite.

The EHS Software by FL Data serves thousands of users across the U.S. and internationally. The Incident Management Software provided by Frontline Data Solutions is a web-based tracking tool for managing incidents, accidents, near misses, audits, inspections, and other EHS-related events. Users can create a single, searchable database of all EHS-related events affecting their companies and ensure that events are adequately communicated and addressed. Relatient CTO, Kevin Montgomery to Speak Alongside Oklahoma Heart Hospital’s Lead Software Architect, Jonathan Minson at 2020 Global Health Conference & Exhibition

News Image

“With technology constantly evolving and streamlining processes, the healthcare industry is shifting under the pressure to make provider access instant and intuitive,” said Kevin Montgomery, CTO of Relatient.

Relatient, a leader in patient-centered engagement software, announces CTO, Kevin Montgomery, as a speaker alongside Oklahoma Heart Hospital’s Lead Software Architect, Jonathan Minson, at HIMSS20. Montgomery and Minson will present on the shift in the healthcare industry regarding patient engagement, and how Relatient and Oklahoma Heart Hospital partnered to drastically improve patient-provider communication and outcomes.

“With technology constantly evolving and streamlining processes, the healthcare industry is shifting under the pressure to make provider access instant and intuitive,” said Kevin Montgomery, CTO of Relatient. “At HIMSS, Jonathan Minson and I will speak on best practices for driving patient engagement, improving transparency, and opening a digital front door for patients. Oklahoma Heart Hospital has its own story to offer in this regard, including how they save almost one million dollars annually as a result of their patient engagement initiative.”

As other industries have opened their digital front doors, patients now expect providers to be easily accessible to schedule an appointment, receive lab results or make payments; and it’s up to healthcare systems to respond to these expectations.

Montgomery and Minson will address the gap between what patients anticipate from their providers and the current state of ambulatory healthcare, industry dynamics that either damage or benefit patient engagement, Oklahoma Heart Hospital’s success in strategy for driving patient engagement, as well as other learning objectives.

“Oklahoma Heart Hospital was a pioneer in digital technology when we first opened our doors 20 years ago”, said Jonathan Minson, Lead Software Architect of Oklahoma Heart Hospital. “We’ve long been aware of the increasing expectations of patients and the demand this places on healthcare systems. I’m excited to discuss how Oklahoma Heart Hospital has met this challenge by improving the patient experience while still creating greater operational efficiency.”

Montgomery and Minson will present at HIMSS20, located at the Orange County Convention Center, room W303A on Thursday, March 12 at 1 p.m.

Odoro's Simplified Digital Check-In System for Saint Louis University SLUCare

Patients are expecting faster and more convenient care, and we are excited to offer our patients an easy way to complete their registration for SLUCare appointments. We see this service as an important component to putting our patients first in all we do. -Matt Zimmie, M.D., SLUCare CMIO

Odoro, developer of the next generation digital patient access platform (DPAP), today announced a new partnership with SLUCare Physician Group, the academic medical practice of Saint Louis University. SLUCare has selected Odoro’s DPAP solution to simplify processes for patients by digitizing registration and self check-in for appointments at their new state-of-the-art physicians office building, which will open on August 31.

Odoro’s Digital Patient Access Platform (DPAP) offers patients a complete digital, fast, and easy-to-use registration and check-in experience. The DPAP solution will allow SLUCare to automate and customize manual front-office workflows, to streamline the check-in process, minimize onsite activity and reduce waiting room times.

“Slow check-in processes, and long wait times are some of patients’ biggest complaints”, said Ohad Ranen, Co-founder and CEO of Odoro. “Our new partnership with SLUCare will help solve these problems and transform the patient care delivery model. Patients will receive a stress-free, quick paperless experience, while administrative staff will save valuable time.”

From the comfort of their homes where information is handy, patients will be able to digitally fill out consent forms, provide insurer information or complete financial payments prior to arrival for their medical appointments.

The system will be piloted at multiple practice sites before it is launched at SLUCare’s new physician office building. As part of this patient-centric approach, SLUCare is looking to expand their digital solutions, including integrating provider search with online scheduling capabilities, in the coming future.

“Patients are expecting faster and more convenient care, and we are excited to offer our patients an easy way to complete their registration for SLUCare appointments,” said Matt Zimmie, M.D., SLUCare chief medical information officer. “We see this service as an important component to putting our patients first in all we do.”

SLUCare and Odoro were introduced to one another through the St. Louis-based organization, GlobalSTL, an initiative of BioSTL that recruits high-growth companies from around the world to enrich and grow St. Louis’s innovation economy.

VA Maryland Health Care System Invites Women to Continue Making History with VA

In 2019, 83.8 percent of female veterans trusted the care they got at VA, and initial data in 2020 is on pace to see that trust score rise to nearly 85 percent.

“The VA Maryland Health Care System offers a host of services geared toward women veterans,” said Zelda McCormick, Women Veterans Program Manager at the VA Maryland Health Care System.

This Women’s History Month, the VA Maryland Health Care System invites women veterans to continue making history with VA.

“For the Department of Veterans Affairs, Women’s History Month means more than just celebrating our women veterans – it means making sure they’re proud of the role we play in the remaining chapters of their story,” said VA Chief of Staff Pam Powers. “We will continue to build on the legacy that America’s women veterans have carved out by listening to them, respecting them, and serving them with the dignity this country owes them.”

Women comprise about 10 percent of the veterans VA serves nationwide, and that number is set to increase, as women are about 20 percent of our military forces.

For decades, VA’s principal patient base was men. But today’s VA facilities provide comprehensive primary care for women, as well as gynecology, specialty care and mental health services. In the last fiscal year, 41 percent of all women veterans were enrolled in VA, and we expect that number to keep climbing as customer service and patient experiences for women veterans continue to improve.

Since VA started tracking outpatient satisfaction in 2017, we’ve seen women’s trust in VA climb higher and higher.

Services include, but are not limited to designated women’s health providers throughout our facilities offering primary care for acute and chronic conditions, preventive care such as immunizations, cancer screenings, and gender specific care, including family planning and preconception counseling, and osteoporosis screening and management. In addition, women veterans can access wellness programs such as health coaching, peer support and community resources, among others.

“Although we don’t deliver babies at our facilities, we do support obstetric care delivered by community partners and provide women veterans with necessary items such as breast pumps,” said McCormick noting that the health care system has hosted three annual baby showers for expectant or new mothers enrolled in VA health care.

The VA Maryland Health Care System also offers mental health and specialty care, providing treatment for depression, mood and anxiety disorders, alcohol and drug use, addiction treatments, intimate partner violence, in addition to management of chronic and complex conditions.

For more information, or to schedule an interview with Zelda McCormick regarding services for women, please contact Rosalia Scalia at rosalia.scalia@va.gov.

The VA Maryland Health Care System (VAMHCS) provides a broad spectrum of medical, surgical, rehabilitative, mental health and outpatient care to veterans at three medical centers and five outpatient clinics located throughout the state. More than 52,000 veterans from various generations receive care from VAMHCS annually. Nationally recognized for its state-of-the-art technology and quality patient care, VAMHCS is proud of its reputation as a leader in veterans’ health care, research and education. It costs nothing for veterans to enroll for health care with the VA Maryland Health Care System and it could be one of the more important things a veteran can do. To enroll for VA health care, interested veterans can call 877-222-8387 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., or they can visit http://www.va.gov and clinic on “Apply now for VA health care.”

NACDS Announced as Founding Member of CDC Hypertension Effort

With a concerted effort to leverage opportunities and to overcome barriers to pharmacy patient care, pharmacies can help even more.

The National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS) has announced that it will serve as a founding member of the National Hypertension Control Roundtable, which seeks marked health improvements by 2025.

The National Hypertension Control Roundtable, launched by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention, will operate as a vibrant public, private, non-profit partnership. By 2025, it seeks to improve national hypertension control rates from 50 percent to 80 percent and to reduce disparities in hypertension control.

“NACDS appreciates the leadership and the continued partnership that are evident in the creation of the National Hypertension Control Roundtable,” said NACDS President and CEO Steven C. Anderson, IOM, CAE.

“As is the case across diverse chronic health conditions, pharmacies serve as accessible and trusted sources of care for those seeking to prevent and control hypertension. With a concerted effort to leverage opportunities and to overcome barriers to pharmacy patient care, pharmacies can help even more. Pharmacy’s participation in the National Hypertension Control Roundtable is a natural fit and a continuation of our engagement in this space. NACDS looks forward to serving as a dedicated partner.”

The creation of the National Hypertension Control Roundtable comes on the heels of the Community Preventive Services Task Force’s (CPSTF’s) April 2019 recommendation for tailored pharmacy-based adherence interventions for cardiovascular disease prevention. CPSTF’s recommendation is based on evidence from a rigorous systematic review of 48 studies that showed tailored interventions delivered by pharmacists increase the number of patients who report taking medications for cardiovascular disease prevention as prescribed.

Key facts behind the creation of this initiative, as provided by CDC, include:

  • Hypertension, or high blood pressure, currently affects one-in-three U.S. adults, and hypertension rates are increasing among young adults.
  • Hypertension currently contributes to one-in-seven cardiovascular-related deaths.
  • Beyond the human costs for patients and loved ones, the financial impact associated with hypertension in the U.S. is $51 billion annually, including $47.5 billion in medical procedures.
  • The last decade has yielded little to no improvement over the past decade.

The Roundtable seeks to actively spotlight the need for improved hypertension control by:

  • Sharing evidence-based interventions amongst Roundtable members;
  • Implementing evidence-based interventions in Roundtable organizations;
  • Engaging and recruiting industry colleagues in the effort to control hypertension rates;
  • Supporting the promotion of publications – including articles and case studies – and Roundtable members’ successful hypertension control activities;
  • Highlighting hypertension control activities external to the Roundtable;
  • Promoting prioritization of hypertension control in primary care; and
  • Member and patient engagement.

The Roundtable anticipates sponsoring its first national meeting in the Fall of 2020, and more information is available on its website.

Pillo Health Launches Pillo Remotely, a Population Health Data and Device Manager to Improve Engagement & Visibility into In-Home Health Habits

a screenshot of the Pillo Remotely homepage

Pillo Remotely Insights

Pillo Remotely transforms reactive, episodic patient-care team interactions into relationships that are proactive, continuous, and collaborative by creating a more efficient way to facilitate communications between caregivers and patients at scale.

Pillo Health, a Boston-based technology company improving longevity and quality of life for patients managing their health at home, today announced the launch of Pillo Remotely, a HIPAA-compliant web interface that puts the management of Pillo devices into the hands of providers. Now, care managers, RPM solutions providers, and other healthcare professionals can configure Pillo devices, gather medication and health data, and deploy health surveys using Pillo Remotely or directly through integration with Pillo Health’s cloud APIs.

Pillo is a voice-first in-home health assistant that leverages facial recognition and adaptive AI to help patients maintain safety, independence, and wellness in the home. For healthcare organizations, the Pillo device and platform delivers continuous engagement with patients and gives providers to-the-minute visibility into their daily routines – including verifiable medication adherence data.

Pillo Remotely offers versatile configurations to deploy disease-state or population-specific engagement workflows and allows care professionals to schedule interactions that enable patients to better participate in their care plans and treatments. After pairing deployed Pillo devices with other in-home health devices (such as a smart scale or blood pressure cuff), healthcare professionals are able to:

  • create and deliver natural language voice surveys en masse or to specific segments of the population they manage
  • enable Pillo devices to proactively deliver spoken messages (“Gloria, don’t forget to drink at least 2 glasses of water today.”)
  • manage and deploy branded or disease-specific photo or video content
  • establish thresholds that trigger alerts within certain degrees of escalation

Workflows can be configured within Pillo Remotely to deploy engaging and immersive care journeys that are delivered safely to the intended patient via Pillo devices. The interface also enables caregivers to facilitate video calls directly within the web browser to individual users, allowing timely interventions for patients at risk and in effort to curb costs related to hospitalizations and readmissions.

“Pillo Remotely closes the feedback loop between the patient, provider, and professional caregiver, ensuring medication adherence and lifestyle data is accessible, organized, and up-to-the-minute in one place,” said Emanuele Musini, CEO of Pillo Health. “Pillo Remotely transforms reactive, episodic patient-care team interactions into relationships that are proactive, continuous, and collaborative by creating a more efficient way to facilitate communications between caregivers and patients at scale.”

Because Pillo is engineered to enhance and increase engagement, people interact with the device six times per day on average. With this, care managers, RPM solutions providers, and other healthcare professionals benefit from six extra touchpoints each day to engage with their patients and gather new data in a scalable manner, including full prescription lists and to-the-minute adherence events.

Pillo Remotely’s powerful reporting features also make it easier to analyze large data sets in order to understand the connection between population health trends and outcomes, develop best practices for future populations, and create tailored programs that address patients’ needs.

Pillo Health will be onsite at the HIMSS20 Annual Conference & Exhibition in Orlando, Florida from March 9-13, 2020. To learn more about Pillo Health, Pillo Remotely or opportunities for industry collaboration at the event, please visit pillohealth.com/himss or stop by booth #5871.

Renishaw announces completion of the main part of a multi-centre clinical trial jointly undertaken with Herantis Pharma for the treatment of Parkinson’s Disease patients

Renishaws novel intraparenchymal drug delivery system

The results of this trial and the performance of Renishaw’s drug delivery system are promising for the many people with Parkinson’s disease and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the trial participants for making this possible.

The study’s repeated delivery regime, which allows for a prolonged therapeutic window, is crucial to achieve the potential neuroprotective and neurorestorative actions of CDNF, and has been made possible through the use of Renishaw’s ground-breaking drug delivery system.

Initial results indicate predictable and accurate placement of the device as well as its positive performance and safety. The Company will continue to assess the results as the data is analysed and through the extension part of the study, as patients receive ongoing monthly infusions of CDNF using the Renishaw device.

Rupert Jones, Managing Director of Renishaw Medical, said, “The results of this trial and the performance of Renishaw’s drug delivery system are promising for the many people with Parkinson’s disease and I would like to take this opportunity to thank the trial participants for making this possible.”

He added, “These results allow us to build towards CE marking of Renishaw’s device so that further neurodegenerative and neuro-oncological conditions can benefit from our technology. We see our device as an enabling technology that facilitates the reliable and repeated delivery of therapeutic agents direct to targets deep within the parenchyma, as part of a paradigm shift in the way treatments of neurological disorders and brain tumours are progressing.”

About the device

Renishaw’s intermittent drug delivery system comprises of up to four catheters, which can be implanted into target areas within the brain. The catheters are accessed via a 3D printed titanium transcutaneous port implanted behind the patient’s ear. Drug-filled infusion lines are connected using an MRI compatible application set, which repeatably locates onto the port. Retractable needles extend through a septum in the port to enable therapeutics in the external infusion lines to be infused through the implanted catheters.

Thanks to this innovative, patented design, patients are able to receive infusions in an out-patient setting, rather than requiring the reimplantation of new catheters for each infusion, which has been the only option for many trials to date.

About the study

The study was a first-in-human, study whereby 17 patients were randomised to receive either one dose per month for six months, of a placebo, or six increasing doses of Herantis Pharma plc’s novel drug candidate, CDNF, over the same period in a blinded manner. After this six month period, patients may enter into an additional six-month study where all participants receive CDNF. In total, patients will receive 12 infusions, all delivered in an out-patient setting.

The primary endpoints evaluate the safety, performance/tolerability of both the drug delivery system and CDNF as well as surgical accuracy. Secondary to this, the potential efficacy of the drug, rated against the Unified Parkinson’s Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) motor score evaluation, was also monitored.

The clinical study has received funding from the European Union’s research and innovation program Horizon 2020 under the grant agreement number 732386.

About Parkinson’s

Parkinson’s is a neurodegenerative disease, caused by the break-down of dopamine producing neurons in the brain. Symptoms include involuntary shaking, stiffness of muscles and slowing down of movement, which can be extremely debilitating. In addition, patients can suffer associated non-motor symptoms such as difficulty sleeping, memory loss, anxiety and depression. Whilst these symptoms can initially be managed with medication, there is currently no treatment available that effectively prevents disease progression, or that treats the motor and non-motor symptoms together.
