Hydra Studios Raises $3.8M to Set a New Industry Standard for Health and Wellness Spaces

Hydra Studios, a network of elevated wellness studios for the modern workforce and the first-of-its-kind self-care destination with COVID-19 considerations built into its DNA, today announced a $3.8M seed capital round from investors Slow Ventures, Company Ventures, Courtside Ventures, CityRock Venture Partners, Hatzimemos/Libby, and Fifth Wall. The funding supports Hydra Studios’ first flagship studio, future network expansion, and key hires.

Founded by former Goldman Sachs colleagues Marie Kloor and Dan Nielsen, the concept for Hydra Studios was inspired by Kloor’s use of the firm’s upscale gym locker room as a “second home base, a hub between my work, social, and fitness lives.” Recognizing that access to these types of amenities were generally limited to employees of large companies, she saw an opportunity to create a new platform for a broader client base.

Just as construction was set to begin, the pandemic hit.

“We immediately needed to rethink and redesign our studio and its operations, pivoting from creating a communal experience to a more private one,” said Hydra Studios co-founder Marie Kloor, who serves as the company’s CEO.

The flagship now features private suites outfitted with HEPA air filters where clients can exercise, meditate, or simply recharge; the space itself features a newly upgraded ventilation system and antimicrobial surfaces.

Said Kloor, “We believe this is the ideal solution for personal fitness, wellness, and rejuvenation.”

“Moving forward, we hope to become an integral part of companies’ back-to-office plans,” said Dan Nielsen, co-founder and the company’s COO, “as well as provide commercial real estate the capability to transform and monetize under-utilized spaces with premium wellness experiences.”

In June 2019, Hydra Studios opened its first private studio in NYC at Convene’s 530 Fifth Avenue location, and later that year entered into an agreement with Silverstein Properties to open its flagship on the ground floor of 120 Wall Street, joining the real estate company’s roster of amenity concepts for its tenants and the surrounding Lower Manhattan community.

Nucamp Introduces New Disruptive Financial Model for Higher Education to Upend Illusory Benefits of Income Sharing Agreements (ISAs)

Nucamp Fair Student Agreement (FSA)

“The original intent of ISAs is commendable, but in an unregulated environment, ISA providers can sometimes add small print and footnotes, which means the reality isn’t always good for students” said Ludo Fourrage, co-founder and CEO at Nucamp.

Aiming to disrupt the trend of students taking on too much risk on unregulated “Income Share Agreements” (ISA) loans, Nucamp (http://www.nucamp.co) today announced a new business model to fund higher education with Fair Student Agreements. The Fair Student Agreement cuts the cost of funding education with loans and payment plans to as low as $8 per month, making it easier for students to pay for their education while learning. In addition, it allows students to avoid unregulated ISAs, which are often up to 2.5X the total cost of tuition.

Nucamp now offers three types of Fair Student Agreements. One is an interest-free payment plan and offered through Nucamp, and the other two are affordable loans with low monthly payments offered through Climb Credit, a student loan provider that offers innovative financing solutions to students through schools that offer skills-based training.

Nucamp, which has a mission to help those who have been left out of the digital economy to shift careers into software development, offers the industry’s only truly affordable 22-week coding bootcamp for under $2,000. The extremely affordable cost is a huge shift from traditional bootcamps that cost $15,000-$40,000. With Nucamp, whether students live in a big city, a suburb, or a rural area, they can conveniently get the coding skills they need without quitting their job, going into debt, or having to share their future income with Income Share Agreement (ISA) financing. Coding bootcamps largely use ISAs in lieu of traditional student loans and provide a proven pathway into high-paying jobs, but some of those ISAs have caveats that can hurt students, which is why Nucamp now offers a better and regulated alternative to protect students.

Since the pandemic started, Nucamp has seen enrollment of students entering its coding bootcamp increase by 20 percent, many of whom have fewer traditional educational credentials and are suffering the most during the pandemic. Fair Student Agreements help these students afford to attend a Nucamp coding bootcamp for a monthly payment that is similar to the cost of a Netflix subscription. Unlike unregulated ISAs, which are increasingly under greater scrutiny for deceiving customers, Fair Student Agreements offer a safe and—over the long term—much more affordable path for students to get a coding education and have access to a better life without risking over payment.

“The original intent of ISAs is commendable, but in an unregulated environment, ISA providers can sometimes add small print and footnotes, which means the reality isn’t always good for students” said Ludo Fourrage, co-founder and CEO at Nucamp. “They are amplifying the student debt financial crisis created by the blunders of a broken university system and a government that refuses to leverage the power of its loan programs to bring down the cost of education.”

Fourrage continued, “Innovations like our Fair Income Student Agreements can work across all areas of education to prevent further destabilization, and could lead to the cost of education being reduced tenfold. We’ve made it easy for students to pay as they go so that by the time they graduate, the outstanding loan can be paid off in a reasonable timeframe.”

How Nucamp Fair Student Agreements Work

The Fair Student Agreements complement the company’s already exceptionally low tuition, which is $1,480 for a 17-week Front-End Web and Mobile Development course and $1,880 for a 22-week Full-Stack Web and Mobile Development course. Students simply apply for a standard loan through Climb Credit and once approved, can join a Nucamp coding bootcamp. Because the loan term begins with interest-only payments, monthly payments can be as little as $8 per month once the coding bootcamp starts, which can easily be paid while they learn. After graduation, students can repay the remaining principal in 18 or 12 months for less than $90 or $131 respectively. In the end, the maximum total cost of the Fair Student Agreement to the student will be less than $210 for the 17-week bootcamp or less $310 than for a 22-Week bootcamp.

Like ISAs, Climb’s programs are set up to ensure that the school is invested in making the students successful. Through the Fair Student Agreements, a portion of the total tuition is sent to Nucamp, when a student starts class, and the rest is held back. The remaining tuition is only sent to the school once that student starts paying back their loan—ensuring that schools are invested in making their student successful. This type of incentive alignment is one of the factors that makes ISAs attractive—and through this structure the benefit is available to students without the drawbacks of ISAs.

“It’s core to our mission to partner with higher education providers who have proven education value that deliver life-changing skills with tangible financial outcomes,” said Angela Galardi Ceresnie, CEO at Climb Credit. “When we learned how committed Nucamp was to affordability—in addition to career results—we were excited to be their financial partner and structure a program that would offer extreme affordability to their students.”

Mediaplanet Partners with SunRADON in Latest Lung Health Campaign

News Image

Through lüft™, SunRADON is helping a wide variety of customers, whether at home, school, the office or a healthcare facility, to accurately monitor indoor air quality on a long-term basis.

Mediaplanet is proud to announce the launch of this November’s Lung Health campaign. The campaign brings together patients, healthcare providers, advocates to spread awareness of chronic lung disease as well as recent innovation in prevention, diagnostics, and treatment for these devastating respiratory conditions. The campaign also takes a dive into importance of lung cancer prevention, and how some companies are dedicated to helping prevent lung cancer.

One leading company is SunRADON, a top provider of professional Radon Detection and Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) monitors. The company has recently launched lüft™, the world’s first smart, plug-in Indoor Air Quality and Radon Monitor. This is a welcome innovation in the fight against radon-induced lung cancer.

lüft™ was created to provide consumers an effective and easy method to track Indoor Air Quality, including detection of Radon, a feature often lacking in today’s IAQ monitors yet crucial in protecting lung health. “Radon is the #1 cause of lung cancer among non-smokers, and responsible for more deaths every year than all other home related deaths combined. Yet long term radon measurements are not included in standard IAQ monitors! It’s because radon detection requires specialized know-how and technology, which SunRADON has mastered for 30+ years while serving professional radon inspectors and mitigators worldwide,” explains SunRADON CEO Dr. Kai Wundke.

Through lüft™, SunRADON is helping a wide variety of customers, whether at home, school, the office or a healthcare facility, to accurately monitor indoor air quality on a long-term basis. lüft™ not only monitors radon levels but also dangerous chemicals such as formaldehyde, carbon dioxide equivalent, temperature, pressure, and humidity. lüft™ is unique in that it packs state-of-the-art radon detection into an IoT-enabled plug-in device. It also allows users to share data with their indoor air quality professionals to provide expert services should need arise.

“lüft™ is not just another IAQ monitor, but an integrated, smart IAQ system with the benefit of also detecting radon, the most dangerous Indoor Air Quality problem of them all,” adds Dr. Wundke. The lüft™ monitor is available for purchase on sunradon.com or amazon.com.

The print component of Lung Health is distributed within the November edition of USA TODAY in LA, Boston, New York, Chicago, Houston, Seattle, Las Vegas, D.C Baltimore, and Pittsburgh/Cleveland markets. The digital component is distributed nationally, through a vast social media strategy, and across a network of top news sites and partner outlets. To explore the digital version of the campaign, visit: https://www.futureofpersonalhealth.com/campaign/lung-health/

The campaign was made possible with the support of SunRADON, as well as the American Thoracic Society, Lung Cancer Foundation of America, Go2 Foundation for Lung Cancer, Boehringer Ingelheim, Bellerophon Therapeutics and GRAIL.

Sandpiper Lodging Trust Announces Third Quarter 2020 Dividend to Shareholders

Sandpiper Lodging Trust (“SLT”) announced that its Board of Trustees declared a third quarter dividend of $0.1706 per share to shareholders of record on November 11, 2020. This represents an annualized dividend of 7% on the current share price of $9.75 and was distributed on November 20, 2020.

Carter Rise, CEO of SLT, stated, “After a very challenging second quarter, SLT continued to validate a key component of our investment thesis – that our focus on economy and mid-scale extended stay hotels provides significant protection during an economic downturn, on an absolute basis and especially relative to our nightly-stay competitors. While none of us contemplated a world-wide pandemic, many of the same economic characteristics played out and demonstrated why this is a resilient, stable, cash-producing investment. The third quarter showed continued, sequential improvement from the second quarter at our properties.”

SLT owns 15 properties located in six states from the Mid-Atlantic region to Texas.

About Sandpiper

Based in Richmond, Va., Sandpiper Lodging Trust (“SLT”) is a nationally focused real estate investment trust recognized as one of the leading companies specializing in extended stay lodging properties. BoniMedics partners with scar treatment pioneer, Biodermis® to bring Patented Pro-Sil® to Northern Europe

Bonimedics (a subsidiary company of StartUpPharma Int. AB) responded to a gap in the availability of quality, medical-grade silicone scar treatment options in the Nordic countries of Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Finland by partnering with the US-based Biodermis. Established in 1988, Biodermis has been recognized for its innovative contributions to the scar management industry for over 30 years. BoniMedics is introducing Pro-Sil, in 4.25g and 17g sticks, as well as Pro-Sil with SPF-15 in both sizes. Additionally, Epi-Derm silicone sheeting and Epifoam compression foam will be offered.

Pro-Sil is revolutionary in its niche market of convenient, silicone-based scar care options because of its proprietary solid stick formulation. Biodermis recently emerged victorious following a legal challenge against a former Northern European distributor who violated the partnership by attempting to replicate patented silicone technology. In an effort to cut costs, the inferior silicone formula was diluted with excess SPF and other ingredients to a point below that which is proven to be effective with scar treatment. Pro-Sil’s patented, high silicone content stick formulation has proven itself in clinical trials as equally effective to gel products like Biodermis’ own Epi-Derm silicone sheeting. Pro-Sil is the only patented silicone therapy product available in a solid stick.

“This agreement with BoniMedics will ensure the availability of genuine Biodermis products in Northern Europe. BoniMedics has an outstanding track record in the pharmaceutical & medical device arena, but what’s more, is the foundation of our relationship with them. Biodermis has maintained a successful relationship with Bonimedics founders, Hamid Bakhshi and Sara Nikman, for over a decade. We are confident in their ability to promote our proven line of medical scar care solutions while upholding our high standard of customer service,” says Dr. Jeff Schleuning, Ph.D., Managing Partner, Biodermis.

Medical grade silicone effectively provides a fully-encapsulating healing environment for scar tissue and allows the ideal concentration of oxygen and moisture at the scar site. Silicone also provides smooth, even coverage across the scar and surrounding healthy tissue area. These factors help to keep the scar tissue pliable, allowing it to blend more completely with surrounding healthy tissue. The end result is a much-improved scar that has a smoother, flatter appearance, and a more natural skin tone.

With a focus on its ongoing and developing partnership with Biodermis, BoniMedics expects to expand on their scar management offerings and explore new markets under their umbrella organization StartUpPharma Int. AB, throughout 2020 and 2021.

BoniMedics, formed in 2020, is driven by over a decade of extensive experience in the medical device sales and distribution arena in the Nordics and Middle East. They are committed to providing quality and clinically proven products to help in the treatment and management of scars and related dermatology issues. BoniMedics can be reached online at BoniMedics.com or by phone at +46 (8) 604 48 88.

Additional content include Buddhist monks’ videos on the basics of temple food, videos of famous YouTubers making recipes, and real-time online lectures, including Monk JeongKwan making potato pancakes and lotus root walnuts with local residents in conjunction with the London branch of the Korea Tourism Organization.

Concurrently running in the U.S. will be the Korean Temple Food Instagram Contest, where people are invited to post a temple food recipe of their choosing.

In addition, the company will hold an official Instagram follow-up event on temple food until November 30 and present souvenirs to 100 people on a first-come, first-served basis.

“With the worldwide spread of COVID-19, social and cultural environments such as non-face-to-face, home, and online activities are changing greatly,” said Monk Won-Gyeong, director of the Cultural Business Group. “We will continue to promote the health and healing values of temple food at home and abroad by utilizing platforms tailored to these changes.”
