Evidence-Based Digital Therapeutic Gives the Brain a Workout

[ad_1]

GoMo Health® and the Center for BrainHealth® at The University of Texas at Dallas are excited to debut their joint digital therapeutic encouraging brain health and in turn, maternal and child health. Focused on giving mom the tools she needs to thrive during the prenatal through to postpartum periods, the program integrates the Center’s research-backed protocols that enhance brain health and build resilience, into the GoMo Health evidence-based patient engagement digital therapeutic program. The partnership allows for decades of brain health research to be applied to the unique needs of new moms, with strategies and techniques they can incorporate into their everyday living. The GoMo Maternal Brain Health program is available for licensing by health providers, hospitals, plans, employers, non-profits, and state health organizations.

Each month, starting pre-natal, moms receive up to 4 “brain health exercises and activities” – topics include better ways women can deal with multitasking, anxiety, focus and maternal and personal responsibility management. The perinatal journey can be a time of great joy for many women, but with it often comes feelings of being overwhelmed, anxious, and stressed. With the rise of mental health challenges for many pregnant and postpartum women stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, support and guidance at any time is more valuable than ever.

The 12-month personalized program delivers positive encouragement, activities and interactive assessments and questionnaires to keep mom engaged and motivated, and the feedback mom shares directly influences the frequency, tone and voice, and type of information she receives throughout the program. GoMo Health and the Center for BrainHealth are on a mission to empower prenatal and postnatal women to thrive as they navigate this major life transition, relishing all the joys – and overcoming the hurdles – that it brings.

Bob Gold, Chief Behavioral Technologist and founder, GoMo Health, says, “We are thrilled to debut this collaboration that enables us to actualize a whole-person approach to integrate and activate mom’s mind and body and positively improve the quality of life for new and expecting moms and their families.”

The program teaches participants how to manage everyday obstacles commonly faced by (new) moms, giving them tactical brain strategies that have been shown in some populations to reduce depressive symptoms by 58% and stress by 42%.

“Decades of research have shown us that a healthier brain can positively impact overall quality of life. With this collaboration we can provide moms with tools that are relevant to everyday life and will also benefit the next generation,” says Jennifer Zientz, deputy director of programs and head of clinical services at the Center for BrainHealth.

GoMo Health and the Center for BrainHealth are excited to be able to help moms and families from around the world. To learn more about the program and attend an exclusive webinar event, visit: https://gomohealth.com/activating-maternal-brain-health/

BioPlus Specialty Pharmacy Unveils “Hope Delivered in 24 Hours” for Oncology Patients

[ad_1]

BioPlus Specialty Pharmacy, a CarepathRx company and the leading independent specialty pharmacy in the United States, today announced that capecitabine, a generic oncology medication, is ready to ship to patients within 24 hours of receiving a complete physician referral.

BioPlus is the only specialty pharmacy to guarantee that capecitabine is ready to ship in 24 hours. Until now, no other pharmacy has ever eliminated the excess waiting period — the time from diagnosis to starting therapy — that oncology patients have historically experienced when prescribed treatment.

“When patients have been diagnosed with cancer but have to wait long periods to begin treatment, their clinical outcomes and emotional burdens are impacted in ways that should be avoidable,” explained Angie Houck, Senior Vice President of Sales Operations at BioPlus. “This is why our specialty pharmacy has invested in the systems and processes needed to have their capecitabine ready to ship in 24 hours. With our enhanced operational process, we reduce wait time and stress for patients and their providers.”

Clinical Studies Show That Time Matters When Initiating Treatment

Numerous studies indicate that timely access to cancer treatment can make a significant difference for patients. Time to treatment initiation (meaning the length of time from diagnosis to first treatment) in patients newly diagnosed with cancer correlates with outcomes, in terms of both survival and quality of life.

“Time matters. When patients start their medications faster, it’s possible to add precious time and quality to their lives,” added Houck.

Delays in time to treatment initiation, according to an analysis of a large patient population tracked by the National Cancer Database, found that each additional week of time to treatment initiation is associated with an increase of mortality ranging from 1.2-3.2% per week for early-stage breast, lung, renal, and pancreatic cancers, and 0.5% per week for colorectal cancer.

Similarly, in other research, longer wait times to treatment initiation affected long-term survival for any cancer, as measured by 5-year and 10-year survival rates.

“BioPlus knows that timely care is critical, especially in oncology. Keeping things moving through the steps from diagnosis to prescription fulfillment is why we are committed to being faster than other pharmacies,” said Mark Montgomery, CEO and President of BioPlus. “This is the heart of our 2 Hour, 2 Day, 2 Click promises. And, for capecitabine, think of it as hope delivered in 24 hours.”

Fast Capecitabine Therapy Initiation Begins with the Power of 2

The oncology patient’s medication journey begins with a long-standing program at BioPlus that serves all patients: the 2 Hour Patient Acceptance Guarantee™ ensuring notification to physician offices in less than two hours whether a referred patient is accepted for treatment or not.

BioPlus’ patient financial assistance department helps ensure that financial issues don’t delay or interrupt patient treatment. In addition, it takes patients with qualifying BioPlus prescriptions only two clicks to refill online.

When time matters, referring a capecitabine prescription to BioPlus means that patients’ medications are guaranteed to be ready-to-ship within 24 hours of the pharmacy receiving the complete referral (excluding weekends).

Leonard Perlmutter to Present a New Three-Part Weekly Zoom Workshop on the Ancient Chakra System and Yoga Psychology March 7-21

[ad_1]

Chakra System illustration by Isandeep Johari

“As a complementary diagnostic tool, the psychology of the ancient Chakra System can reveal important physical, physiological, psychic and behavioral aspects of individuals and their disease process.” – Leonard Perlmutter

Leonard Perlmutter, Yoga Psychologist and founder of The American Meditation Institute (AMI), will present a rare three-part weekly Zoom workshop on the ancient Chakra System and Yoga Psychology as complementary diagnostic tools on Mondays March 7 through 21 from 6:30 to 8:30pm ET. Entitled “Understanding the Chakras: Balancing the Body’s Subtle Energies,” this comprehensive training is designed to relieve stress, burnout and pain, enhance creativity, strengthen the body’s immune system, and experience increased security and self-confidence.

This course provides a detailed and practical understanding of the meaning, anatomy and function of the seven major Chakras. When knowledge of the subtler aspects of the Chakras is understood and incorporated into an individual’s daily practice, consciousness is freed from the downward inertia of fear-based, animal nature and allowed to rise to the higher centers of consciousness. When the energy of the Chakras is balanced by employing practices presented in this workshop, human beings can free themselves from the debilitating power of fear, anger and greed––allowing their consciousness to rise toward higher centers of creativity. In addition, advanced healing practices that work through the energy of the subtle body can help open, energize and ground the mind. These advanced yogic mind/body medicine practices make it possible to increase vitality and concentration and can help individuals rediscover their own inner source of physical, mental and emotional health and well-being.

According to Leonard Perlmutter, “The power to attain a state of holistic health lies within each of us. It is simply a matter of attaining the necessary knowledge and then cultivating our determination and will. By properly caring for our bodies, by regulating our breath, and by understanding the mind and the vital energy known as prana, each one of us can rediscover and utilize our inner source of physical well-being, emotional contentment and spiritual peace. The understanding of the Chakra system offered in this course provides a practical, diagnostic tool to analyze and balance the many complexities of the human mind, senses and body.”

Mr. Perlmutter’s books, YOUR CONSCIENCE, as well as The Heart and Science of Yoga® have been endorsed by medical pioneers Dean Ornish MD, Bernie Siegel MD and Larry Dossey MD. Leonard has taught workshops on the benefits of the Chakra System, the Conscience, mantra meditation and Yoga Science at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Kaiser Permanente, numerous medical schools, “The New York Times” forum on Yoga, and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point Association of Graduates.

Practicing Qigong During the Pandemic

[ad_1]

For the past few years, Joseph Villapaz has focused on directing an anthology science fiction series consisting of features and shorts based around a universe he’s created. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he has temporarily put that on hold to create a short instructional video on simple breathing exercises called Qigong which dates back over four thousand years.

“When the global health crisis started,” says Villapaz, “it inspired the plot for my previous short film, Perpetual Anamnesis. That was a fictional story but I felt compelled to create something that could be helpful, something that people could actually practice on their own to provide a little break from the negativity in the world.”

Villapaz gathered actors Curtis St. John, Habin Kwak, Louisa de Butts, Sophia Gutchinov and Zoey Zo to perform as students.

“Qigong,” continues Villapaz, “is comprised of soft and slow exercises so practically anyone can practice it.” The result is Qiqong Instructional Video and should be completed by the time you read this.

Wicked Kitchen debuts in Northern Europe, Expands in U.K. and U.S. with a variety of convenient, plant-based products.

With the largest variety of chef-created plant-based foods from convenience meals to desserts, Wicked expands into new markets furthering its animal-free global mission.

Wicked Kitchen, a 100% plant-based, flavor-forward food brand in the U.S. and the U.K. with the largest variety of chef-created vegan offerings, announces the expansion into new markets furthering its animal-free global mission. The company is expecting rapid year-over-year growth of more than 300%.

The company launched into Northern Europe today, thanks to a new partnership with leading Finnish grocer S Group (SOK). From a line of fresh ready meals and frozen entrees to ice creams, snacks, and desserts, S Group introduces 25 Wicked Kitchen products at more than 200 locations across Finland and Estonia with plans to double its offerings by the end of the year.

“As a disruptive plant-based brand in the U.K. and the U.S., we are on a mission to improve the lives of humans and animals in even more countries by offering chef-created plant-based foods with a broader appeal,” said Pete Speranza, CEO, Wicked Kitchen. “By launching additional products where we already have a presence and expanding into new markets, we will continue to grow our range of delicious options to help meet the burgeoning demand for variety and flavor in plant-based foods.”

Like in the U.S. and the U.K., consumers with a range of tastes and preferences in Finland will be delighted by the wide variety of convenient plant-based meals and treats created by chefs and Wicked Kitchen founders, Derek Sarno and Chad Sarno. Wicked Kitchen also confirms today that it plans to launch into Asia by the end of the summer, starting in Thailand.

Having ignited the plant-based movement in the U.K., the number one vegan market globally, Wicked Kitchen is poised to repeat that success in other markets across the globe. In 2022, Wicked plans to add more than 30 new products in the U.K, including fresh ready-to-eat meals and sides, plus seasonal items such as chocolates for Easter. Wicked Kitchen launched in Tesco in 2018, becoming the pioneer in the multi-category plant-based space while establishing the retailer as the U.K. leader for plant-based products. This year, the brand will expand beyond Tesco stores into additional channels in the U.K.

In the U.S., the brand will grow its product set by 50 percent across multiple categories in Kroger and Sprouts stores nationwide. Exciting new products for the U.S. include first-of-its-kind plant-based ice creams with a lupin bean base, frozen pizza and heat-and-eat entrées. Select Wicked Kitchen products will be available on Amazon starting next month.

“Wicked Kitchen is unlike anything else that has come before it in the plant-based space in any market,” said Derek Sarno. “Wicked offers chef-crafted, mission-driven products created by exclusively vegan chefs and we put taste front and center while offering peace of mind that there are no animal products used, ever.”

To inspire and support plant-based cooking and eating, Wicked Kitchen partnered with Veganuary, a nonprofit whose annual month-long global campaign in January encourages people to try eating vegan for one month; it has more than 2 million participants worldwide to date. Wicked supports anyone interested in eating plant-based with the tools they need to take control –including recipes, meal plans, cooking techniques and videos– for consumers to rely less on animals as a food source. The company’s How To Start A Plant-Based Diet For Beginners provides basics of using simple plant-based meat and dairy alternatives, eating out at restaurants and putting together plant-based meals at home. Indoor Rowing Studio To Open on Magazine Street In Spring 2022

[ad_1]

Ergofit, a boutique fitness studio offering group-fitness classes, will open on Magazine Street in Spring 2022. The studio, centered around the indoor rowing machine (RowErg), will also incorporate the use of Concept2’s BikeErg and the SkiErg, as well as traditional floor exercises.

The studio is founded by three former collegiate rowers: Jonathan DeJean (LSU ‘12), John Huppi (Tulane ‘11) and Hannah Huppi (Tulane ‘11). After competing against each other in college, three reconnected in 2015 to provide indoor rowing opportunities for New Orleans-area youth via the New Orleans Rowing Club. Currently, DeJean is the owner and operator of Krewe Fitness, a crossfit-style gym located in Uptown New Orleans. J. Huppi is a professor and head rowing coach at Tulane University. H. Huppi is an executive at a real estate technology firm. Both Huppis are on the USRowing National Team and recently competed at the 2021 World Rowing Championships where they won Bronze.

The three founders are excited to bring indoor rowing to the New Orleans community. DeJean said, “Rowing is one of the best workouts a person can do, as it works your body from head to toe. Every major muscle group is activated during the rowing stroke, allowing you to not only build cardiovascular fitness, but also build muscle. It is also an incredibly versatile machine, and it can be used to build endurance, improve explosive power, and perform HIIT exercises.”

In addition to the Concept2 RowErg, the gym will also utilize it’s sister machines: the Concept2 BikeErg and SkiErg. DeJean said, “by incorporating the BikeErg and SkiErg into our workout model, we believe Ergofit will provide our clients with the ultimate full-body workout. The BikeErg really focuses on lower-body strength, while the SkiErg targets the upper-body and core. Together with the RowErg, plus traditional floor exercises, our customers will experience the most efficient and effective full-body workout on the market.”

All three Concept2 machines utilize flywheel technology – a product that uses airflow to provide resistance. H. Huppi said “the design allows for a very personalized offering. Whether you are brand new to the sport, or you are an Olympic athlete, the same machines are suitable for giving you an optimal workout for your current fitness level.” H. Huppi also noted the low-impact nature of the machines, “Ergofit is a great option for those looking for low-impact workouts that still provide high-energy and intensity. We want to create a fun, inclusive environment for people of all ages and abilities to get a great, full-body workout.”

The gym, which is currently under construction, will open on Magazine Street in Spring 2022. J. Huppi, said “we can’t wait to transform this vacant historic property into a vibrant retail storefront that adds to the ever-growing experiential retail market on Magazine Street.”
