Vitruvian raises $15m Series A as technology continues to disrupt human health and wellbeing

Vitruvian Trainer+

Vitruvian Trainer+

We’ve created a product that is smarter than anything else on the market, and it’s only going to continue to evolve and improve because of the AI which is at its core.

Vitruvian, an in-home strength and personal training platform, has today announced its Series A funding round of USD $15 million, with investors including Larsen Ventures and Ten13.

As the digital and connected fitness market resets and evolves, Vitruvian is an integrated product and platform using artificial intelligence that adapts workouts to individual users in real time. Loading the optimal resistance for them at any given point in time. The All Access monthly membership provides access to hundreds of classes from world-class fitness coaches, goal oriented programs, the ability to create and share workouts, and advanced data tracking and performance insights.

The Vitruvian product packs 200kg of software-driven weight training into a slim, free-standing unit, meaning it can be easily stored away and doesn’t require third party installation. It also has double the resistance of its nearest competitor, allowing users to experience a product that is truly powerful and intelligent.

Founder Jon Gregory started building the Vitruvian product in 2012, after a career as a high frequency trader. Applying algorithmic thinking to strength training, Gregory prototyped the first-generation Vitruvian product, the V-Form, which launched in November 2020 and immediately found a loyal and engaged customer base.

The second-generation Trainer+ was released in November 2021 and the initial manufacturing run sold out within three months. A higher volume production line will be producing units at significantly greater numbers from May 2022 to satisfy demand.

Having proven product market fit and with a highly engaged early customer base, this funding will accelerate Vitruvian’s US market expansion where the opportunity is immense with approximately 64 million gym memberships in the US in 2019, out of 184 million gym memberships globally.

Jon Gregorgy, Founder and CEO, Vitruvian said, this funding will allow us to meet the overwhelming demand for Vitruvian’s Trainer+ product, “Since Vitruvian’s inception we’ve taken the time to create smart and fully integrated hardware and software that adapts to our users every time they train, whether they are having a rest day or a powerful day. We’ve created a product that is smarter than anything else on the market, and it’s only going to continue to evolve and improve because of the AI which is at its core.

“This funding allows us to scale and build market share at a time when consumers want the flexibility to train how they want, where they want and with a product that is powerful, portable and looks good in their home.”

Andrew Larsen, Investment Director – Larsen Ventures said, “I’m excited about the Vitruvian product and platform. It brings intelligence into the fitness market not yet seen before at a time when a growing number of consumers are demanding smarter, technology led solutions to help them train more efficiently and effectively wherever they may be. We see immense market opportunity globally and particularly here in Asia Pacific and throughout North America.”

63% of women tried a menstrual cup or other reusable menstrual products

Artwork of woman holding, protecting earth.

The sustainability movement is driven mainly by women expressing environmental concerns where disposable menstrual products play a significant part.

Many traditional plastic-based feminine hygiene products take over 500 years to decompose. On average, a woman uses 12,000 disposable sanitary products in her lifetime, and 20 billion menstrual products end up in landfills each year.

The sustainable lifestyle has become one of the most important trends worldwide. And the sustainability movement is driven mainly by women expressing environmental concerns where disposable menstrual products play a significant part. So, for this year’s Earth Day, INTIMINA, an intimate health brand, asked 2,000 women aged 18-45 about how aware they are of their ecological contribution when it comes to menstrual products.

Many traditional plastic-based feminine hygiene products take over 500 years to decompose. On average, a woman uses 12,000 disposable sanitary products in her lifetime, and 20 billion menstrual products end up in landfills each year. These facts have affected women around the world to change their menstrual hygiene habits and switch to healthier and eco-friendly reusable products such as menstrual cups.

In INTIMINA’s survey, 72% of respondents said they consider their lifestyle sustainable, meaning they try to make choices that aim to reduce their individual and collective environmental impact.

When purchasing and using menstrual products such as pads and tampons, 59% of respondents consider the effects on the environment and the amount of menstrual waste these products represent.

However, 67% of respondents were unaware of the average number of disposable menstrual products women use in their lifetime. Still, 42% did try more eco-friendly menstrual products – with 63% choosing a menstrual cup or other reusable menstrual products.

There are many reasons why menstrual cups are good for the environment and health. The survey shows that respondents are well aware of these benefits. When asked to name reasons why they would be inclined to switch to a menstrual cup, they chose multiple answers resulting in 48% favoring the money-saving aspect. A menstrual cup can last up to 10 years, which means enormous savings from taking pads and tampons off the shopping list.

39% would choose a cup because it is hassle-free and can be worn for up to 8 hours without emptying it, which provides a sense of comfort during menstruation. 38% believe menstrual cups are a healthy choice because they are made of medical-grade silicone, while most pads and tampons contain chemicals and plastic. 38% opted for the fact cups are reusable, giving people a chance to reduce their menstrual waste.

Using a menstrual cup allows people to make a significant environmental difference by ending their contribution of disposable menstrual products to the earth. To help everyone understand their menstrual waste production and its impact on the environment, INTIMINA created the Greentimina Menstrual Waste Calculator. This simple tool calculates the amount of waste a person produces by using disposable menstrual products during their lifetime. It also estimates how much money a person will spend on those products.

When it comes to changing our daily habits for environmental benefits, changing personal menstruation management and switching to reusable products plays a crucial part. The numbers describing the waste attributed to disposable menstrual products can be overwhelming. Still, with small steps and small decisions oriented towards purchasing eco-friendly products, each person can reduce their carbon footprint and make a difference in saving the planet.

FarmaCell US, the Italian Massage and Shapewear brand, offers helpful tips for minimizing the appearance of cellulite as swimsuit season approaches.

News Image

Farmacell US, an innovative Italian luxury Message and Shapewear brand of Calze G.T., presents five pointers to help defeat cellulite. The demand to get rid of cellulite is growing as summer approaches and body covering slacks and sweaters are exchanged for revealing swimsuits, shorts, and sleeveless tops.

Cleveland Clinic reports 80-90% of adult women in the US have cellulite¹ which is caused by a buildup of fat deposits underneath the skin. The main symptom is the appearance of lumpy, dimpled flesh on the thighs, hips, buttocks, and belly.

Some women are more predisposed to it than others. Factors that affect cellulite and how noticeable it is can be based on one’s genes, body fat percentage, skin thickness, and age. It can also be linked to problems with the micro-circulatory system in other women.

Regardless of the cause, FarmaCell offers the following five pointers to reduce the appearance of cellulite:

  • Get in the habit of daily physical activity. Consistent low-impact exercises like walking, dancing, jogging, and cycling are recommended over intense physical exercise.
  • Combine exercise with a healthy and balanced diet to reduce fat creation. Eat a lot of fiber and vegetables, drink at least 6-8 glasses of water a day, and limit the use of salt and coffee.
  • Get at least 8 hours of sleep a night. Rest helps to reduce stress significantly.
  • Wear microfiber anti-cellulite garments such as those from the FarmaCell Massage line, and FarmaCell Massage and Shape line. FarmaCell Massage underwear is made with their exclusive patented honeycomb fabric. The fabric’s contact with the moving body delivers a micro-massage to the skin, promoting smoothness, and improving micro-circulation. The FarmaCell Massage & Shape line combines their skin micro-massage honeycomb weave with a shaping effect for slimming and fighting cellulite.
  • Do self-lymphatic massage regularly. This activity is non-invasive and has been shown to reduce cellulite. Self-lymphatic drainage with a body brush is simple to do at home.

The FarmaCell brand offers attractive shaping, support, graduated compression, and anti-cellulite underwear that provide style, comfort, durability, and fit for men and women. For men, the company offers waist shapewear, boxers, briefs, undershirts, singlets, and t-shirts. Women’s products include waist shapewear, bodysuits, shorts, singlets, leggings, bras, briefs, and thongs.

Above all, the quality of the company’s shapewear is unparalleled, with garments designed down to the smallest of details, true to the finest Italian artisan tradition, of which FarmaCell is an ambassador of excellence.

Options Medical Weight Loss

“The essential components that are so often disjointed in the weight loss industry are the aid of medications and the customization of nutrition programs. We are committed to delivering both with perfection,” Walker said.

Options Medical Weight Loss™ has announced the location of its newest weight loss clinic at 2472 W Brandon Blvd., Brandon, Florida. The clinic, scheduled to open in summer 2022, will join other Florida Options Medical Weight Loss clinics located in Largo, St. Petersburg, and Tampa.

And during the pandemic, many people have put on extra pounds that they would like to shed.

“Obesity is a severe health problem for many people in Hillsborough County, and is rapidly getting worse,” said Dr. Matthew Walker, CEO of Options Medical Weight Loss. “Our mission is to stop this epidemic, and we are excited to bring our proven system to Brandon where we expect to deliver the same amazing weight loss success as we have for people in many other communities.”

“For people who are struggling to lose weight it’s important that they have options to help them with their battle,” said Walker. “Our one-of-a-kind system delivers customized programs to assist in taking off those stubborn final 10 pounds, or well over 100 pounds—or anything in between.”

The new facility in Brandon will provide a specialized staff of board-certified obesity doctors who will design custom-tailored programs for each individual weight loss patient. Using the patient’s unique biomarkers and medical history, doctors will employ a wide variety of scientifically proven solutions to suit each patient’s specific needs. Every step of the way we lend the caring support that weight loss patients don’t find elsewhere,” Walker said.

As a leading weight loss clinic, Options Medical Weight Loss combines the benefits of medical prescriptions along with a range of personalized nutrition programs managed by certified professionals. Every aspect of care is customized to each patient’s medical history, weight loss goals, and any social obstacles they may face. “The essential components that are so often disjointed in the weight loss industry are the aid of medications and the customization of nutrition programs. We are committed to delivering both with perfection,” Walker said.

“Along with our clinics in the Midwest and Southwest, our Florida locations in Largo, St. Petersburg, Tampa, and soon Brandon add to our ongoing national expansion. “Options Medical Weight Loss attributes its aggressive growth to its proven success in helping people attain better health, mobility, and self-confidence through the personalized care of its dedicated weight loss professionals. “When you join Options Medical Weight Loss clinics, you’re not just getting a medical provider—you’re getting a friend, a coach, and a fan. Seniors Lead the Way in Adopting Healthier Lifestyles; Getting Most out of Medicare Plans

According to CMS, 80% of Americans over 65 suffer from at least 1 of 10 listed major chronic conditions affecting older people, and 68% suffer from two or more.

You need a team, and that should include your doctors as well as your Medicare plan provider. A licensed agent specializing in Medicare can help ensure you find a plan that best matches you and your lifestyle.

A recent research study shows that while the exercise habits of young to middle-aged people are on the decline, senior citizens’ have been ramping up. According to the study, seniors 65 and older have been averaging 100 more minutes of weekly activity than those in the preceding age group.(1) This assessment is bolstered by a survey of participants in SilverSneakers Fitness, an exercise program for older adults. The survey shows 83% of program participants engaging in aerobic activity three or more times per week; three or more times weekly participation was also high for muscle strengthening (65%) and flexibility exercises (49%).(2)

“It’s very clear,” says Jamie Needham, Chief Marketing Officer of Ensurem, a Florida-based insurance technology and product distribution firm, “that seniors are aware of the health benefits of regular physical activity. What they may not be aware of is that a diversity of exercise and health-support programs are available to them—sometimes at no extra charge—from many Medicare plans.”

Original Medicare, Needham notes, largely restricts its coverage to purely medical matters. For a beneficiary with diabetes, for example, which affects 27% of the over-65 population,(3) Original Medicare only covers a once-per-lifetime health behavior change program.(4) On the other hand, many Medicare Advantage plans will cover gym memberships at no extra charge, along with programs like My Plate (a nutrition guide published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture), Eat Right® (a program of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics), and SilverSneakers.

Regular physical activity may help prevent or delay many of the health problems common in older adults, Needham points out, but many Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement Insurance plans also offer other no-cost benefits to help seniors stay healthy, like health education seminars, wellness events, food delivery services and more.

The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) lists ten major chronic conditions affecting older people: hypertension, high cholesterol, arthritis, ischemic/coronary heart disease, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, heart failure, depression, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. According to CMS, 80% of Americans over 65 suffer from at least one of these conditions, and 68% suffer from two or more.(2)

Having one of these conditions, Needham adds, should not deter a senior citizen from being physically active. According to the Centers for Disease Control, exercise for older adults prevents bone loss, relieves osteoarthritis pain, helps prevent chronic diseases, boosts immunity, and improves mood.(6)

“Regular exercise and a sensible diet won’t solve these conditions,” says Lifestyle Icon and Ensurem Brand Ambassador Denise Austin, “but they can positively affect our physical health—and our emotional wellbeing—in many ways.” “Our goal—and I’m older now too, so I speak from experience—is to live the life we have as well as possible.”

To do that, says Needham, seniors need support: of each other, of medical care providers, of organizations like SilverSneakers, and of their insurer. “You need a team,” she says, “and that should include your doctors as well as your Medicare plan provider. A licensed agent specializing in Medicare can help ensure you find a plan that best matches you and your lifestyle.”
