MyFitStrip releases first generation functional chewing gum products that enhance the nitric oxide-promoting oral microbiome

Enhance the oral nitric oxide microbiome with MyFitStrip Nitric Oxide Chewing Gum

Nitric Oxide Functional Chewing Gums, promoting a nitric oxide favorable oral microbiome

Systemic vascular health is greatly influenced by our oral health and a functional prebiotic nitrate chewing gum may provide a consumer-friendly means that optimizes a nitric oxide favorable oral microbiome.

MyFitStrip’s first generation functional chewing gums are designed to both increase the alkalinity of saliva and shift the oral microbiome towards a nitric oxide favorable microbiota for converting dietary nitrate from heart healthy plant-based foods.

Oral and systemic wellness share many common risk factors, including nitric oxide deficiency. Today, many oral health products ranging from toothpastes to mouthwashes indiscriminately eliminate the bacteria in the mouth. Studies have repeatedly shown that dysregulation of the oral microbial community is associated with poor oral and cardiovascular health. A critical step in restoring oral and systemic health is dependent upon a functional oral microbiome capable of converting dietary nitrate to nitric oxide.

Dietary inorganic nitrates, present in leafy greens, celery, and beets, are converted to nitric oxide beginning with oral bacteria found on the tongue. “If these nitric oxide-promoting bacteria are diminished by poor dietary lifestyle choices or from excessive use of harsh mouthwashes, nitric oxide-beneficial outcomes, in particular, vascular and oral health, can be blunted,” according to Dr. Shawn J. Green, founder of MyFitStrip. Green published some of the earliest work on the role of nitric oxide in innate or natural immune function and was the founder of Berkeley Test and inventor of the clinically supported nitric oxide supplement, Berkeley Life Professional, and the co-inventor of the next generation, clinically validated nitric oxide nutraceutical, Vascanox.

MyFitStrip observed that chewing slow-release functional chewing gums developed by Per Os Biosciences infused with a patent-pending formula of inorganic prebiotic nitrate and ascorbate shifts the oral microbiome towards a nitric oxide favorable microbiota. As important, the nitric oxide chewing gum also diminishes bacteria often associated with poor oral and systemic wellness. “Chewing the gum for several minutes throughout the day appears to increase the residence time of the prebiotic actives in the oral cavity thereby promoting a healthy microbiome balance within the matter of several hours”, Green continues, “What was most striking from these initial observations was the acute improvement and expeditious nature of this favorable microbiome shift.”

Aside from enhancing nitric oxide-promoting bacteria, several investigators have reported that salivary nitrate lowers the incidence of tooth decay and gum inflammation. Using MyFitStrip’s Saliva Testing Strips and Bristle Oral Health microbiome testing platform, early results are showing an increase in local nitric oxide and salivary alkalinity, plus a favorable shift in the oral cavity towards nitric oxide-promoting bacteria. A corresponding decrease in bacteria-associated with poor health outcomes was apparent within hours of chewing MyFitStrip Bioactive Nitric Oxide Chewing Gum intermittently throughout the day. Observations will be published later this year and follow-on studies are underway to further evaluate the oral and systemic health connection in the context of oral nitric oxide bioavailability. This first-generation chewing gum is not intended to replace a heart healthy serving of a nitrate-rich leafy green-beet salad or clinically-validated dietary supplement, but simply to enhance a microflora that favors nitrate bioconversion in the oral cavity, a critical first step in nitric oxide formation.

“Systemic health is greatly influenced by our oral health”, Green continues, “aside from our dietary choices, these functional prebiotic chewing gums may provide a consumer-friendly means that optimizes a nitric oxide favorable oral microbiome. In doing so, our functional gums may emerge to be helpful in complementing plant-based dietary sources to sustain oral and cardiovascular wellness. If so, such a simple delivery platform as gum would be helpful to those with limited access to oral hygiene products.”

Clinical evidence from the Karolinska Institutet, University of Exeter, William Harvey Research Institute, Queen Mary University, Oral Microbiome Research Group of the Foundation for the Promotion of Health and Biomedical Research of Valencia, University of Minnesota, among other notable biomedical research centers and universities continue to reinforce the importance of dietary nitrate’s role in improving oral and systemic health.

The premium kids’ bike brand woom is celebrating 10 years with the “Grow Up With woom” sweepstakes. Between March 21-31, families can enter their children for the chance to win a series of new bikes and helmets that will ride with the child throughout their entire childhood.

The winning line up is valued at up to $5,000 as they size up through woom’s bike lines from the toddler-focused woom 1 balance bike to the woom 6 for teenagers.

“We want more than to build the best children’s bikes in the world. We want to create what we call Magic Moments for families cycling together,” said woom Co-CEO Mathias Ihlenfeld. “Whether it’s a child’s first independent ride, first mountain bike trail, a multi-day cycling adventure or a daily school run, we’re passionate about creating memorable experiences of shared joy. With the Grow Up With woom giveaway, we’re able to support one child’s love of riding and offer them Magic Moments at every age and stage as they size up with our bikes.”

Seamlessly designed with high-quality components and child-specific geometry, woom bikes are 40% lighter than conventional children’s bikes to give children the perfect introduction to riding a bike and spark a life-long passion for cycling. The woom product line spans from toddler to teen sizes, ensuring an appropriate and comfortable fit at every age.

In addition to the giveaway, woom is also commemorating this decade milestone with a limited edition woom ORIGINAL bike in sparkling Anniversary Red color, and a special exhibit and celebration at the acclaimed Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna on May 25th.

“With 1.1 million woom bikes sold to date, we have set ambitious goals for our 10th anniversary year,” said Co-CEO Paul Fattinger. “This year, we are seeking to expand our network of dealers in France, strengthen our market position in the USA and prepare to launch in Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands. Our greatest key to success has always been, and continues to be innovation, ongoing development and the ability to adapt.”

In just one decade, woom has scaled from a garage start-up to an international business, and the company’s growth shows no sign of stopping. In 2022, woom broke its record with over $100 million in annual sales and welcomed the Jebsen Group on board as a new strategic partner.

The winner will be announced on April 3rd. For more information about the giveaway or to enter, visit https://gleam.io/YYYV1/the-grow-up-with-woom-giveaway.

About woom:

The woom success story started a decade ago, when two bike-loving fathers – industrial designer Christian Bezdeka and marketing specialist Marcus Ihlenfeld – were trying to find the perfect bike for their own children. Having had no luck, they decided to take matters into their own hands and design a bike themselves. They started their own business in a garage in Vienna and set about reinventing the children’s bike. It only took a few years for woom to become a market leader in Austria. Since then, woom has made a name for itself around the world. Children and teenagers are riding woom bikes in over 30 countries now, including the USA.

Jack & Annie’s Impact Report Evaluates the Brand’s Contributions in Supporting Regenerative Agriculture

News Image

Jack & Annie’s first Lifecycle Assessment Report Shows the jackfruit-based meat alternative company’s sustainability initiatives outperform those of traditional meat products.

“We discovered that jackfruit as an input is 94% better than beef, 60% better than chicken and 87% better than pork for Global Warming Potential.” – Annie Ryu, CEO and Founder, Jack & Annie’s

Jack & Annie’s, a leader in the alternative meat category, knows that fulfilling their mission of making a positive impact in the world includes measuring their own. With their first-ever Impact Report, Jack & Annie’s evaluates the company’s contributions in supporting regenerative agriculture through jackfruit, as well as its efforts to build community in the U.S. and India, support farming family partners, and further understand and improve the company’s own carbon footprint.

“We have always known that our environmental impact is strong. Jackfruit is one of the most sustainable crops, and we continue to partner with our farmers on regenerative practices,” said Annie Ryu, CEO and founder of Jack & Annie’s. “This past year, we took it one step further, performing our first LCA (Life Cycle Assessment). We discovered that jackfruit as an input is 94% better than beef, 60% better than chicken and 87% better than pork for Global Warming Potential.”

Jack & Annie’s is a global company, with teams in India and the U.S. working together to make a positive impact. In the U.S., the team participates in community programs to lessen food waste and is committed to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Additionally, Jack & Annie’s is proud to partner with over 1,700 farming families in India, who help harvest the jackfruit. The farmers benefit by being educated about the value of jackfruit on their land; selling jackfruit to Jack & Annie’s enables farmers to increase their income by 10-40%. Additionally, by building these relationships over the past decade, Jack & Annie’s has been able to study and calculate the carbon sequestration of the jackfruit trees, which equates to 28,000 metric tons of CO2 per year.

“The novel supply chains we’ve built have helped create a food system that offers both a healthy diet and a lower carbon footprint and provides an opportunity for small-holder farmers to earn incremental income. At scale, this food system will play an important role in solving this century’s critical problems – public health, climate change and economic empowerment,” says Rahul Shrikant, Jack & Annie’s VP of International Operations.

Jack & Annie’s plans to further quantify its impact on food, farmers and the environment by planting 50,000 jackfruit trees per year to sequester more carbon. The company will also continue to provide education and assistance to farmers, bolster diversity through unconscious bias training, perform an ESG Materiality Assessment, and begin to take inventory of their carbon emissions.

ABOUT JACK & ANNIE’S

Jack & Annie’s, made by The Jackfruit Company and founded by Annie Ryu, is on a mission to create real, delicious foods that feature jackfruit, an underutilized crop that is one of the world’s most sustainable and regenerative plants, as the primary ingredient. Jack & Annie’s plant-based offerings are more than just a delicious alternative to meat, they are also naturally nutrient-dense, high in fiber and protein, and lower in calories, and have a simpler ingredient panel than other meatless products. From crispy jack nuggets to savory jack sausage patties, the Jack & Annie’s portfolio offers foods that are satisfying for meat eaters and plant-based eaters alike. Bite-by-bite, Jack & Annie’s and The Jackfruit Company are building a better planet, supporting farming communities in India by preventing jackfruit from going to waste, operating the largest global jackfruit supply chain, and providing over 1,700 farming families with 10-40% of their income.
