The transition from healthcare to swim schools feels natural for the duo. Gentry Academy Adds New Leadership in Athletic Department with Hiring of Morgan Underwood as New Athletic Director

Gentry Academy, an accredited school for students in grades 5-12, announced today, it has hired Morgan Underwood as the school’s new Athletic Director and Monique Aanenson as girls’ hockey coach.

“We could not be happier to welcome Morgan and Monique to the Gentry Academy family,” said Megan Stone, Gentry’s Director of Leadership and Culture. “Both are strong leaders excited to continue the wonderful things we are doing here. I believe Morgan and Monique will bring our athletic department and our whole learning community to the next level.”

Underwood holds a master’s degree from St. Cloud State University and comes to Gentry Academy from Providence Academy where she was an assistant athletic director. At St. Cloud State she played softball. Morgan and her husband are the proud parents of a 16-month-old daughter named Millie.

“This was an opportunity I could not pass up,” said Underwood. “I have seen from afar the positive impact this school is having on its’ students. I cannot wait to be a part of helping build a culture where student athletes can achieve their goals both academically and athletically.”

Aanenson is no stranger to Gentry Academy. She served as assistant coach last season and was a crucial part of the state championship team this past winter season. She played women’s’ hockey for four seasons at the University of Minnesota Duluth before entering coaching. When not on the ice she is a physical therapist in Maplewood.

“I am very excited to lead this team as it defends a state title,” said Aanenson. “Last year was such a fulfilling experience and I look forward to building off that to create a long-term path of success for this program.”

When hiring leaders within a successful athletic program it is important to find the right person, said Jennifer Kurth, Gentry’s Director of Education.

“We are building tomorrow’s leaders here at Gentry,” said Kurth. “So, it’s critical that we are well positioned to get our student-athletes to the next level of competition because the caliber of our administrators and coaches. I believe Morgan and “Coach Mo” will do a wonderful job of being stewards of our mission.”

Monster Energy’s Justin Gaethje Defeats Dustin Poirier via Head Kick K.O. at UFC 291 in Salt Lake City, Utah

“The Highlight” does it again! Monster Energy congratulates Justin Gaethje on defeating Dustin Poirier and earning the infamous BMF Belt at UFC 291 in Salt Lake City. In the night’s Main Event fight contested in the Lightweight division, the 34-year-old from Safford, Arizona, dealt Poirier a thunderous stoppage via a head kick in Round 2 and earned the UFC’s $50,000 Performance of the Night Bonus.

Earlier in the night, 36-year-old Alex Pereira from São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil, went the distance against Jan Blachowicz to earn a victory by split decision in his debut fight in the Light Heavyweight division.

UFC 291: Poirier vs. Gaethje 2 was contested in front of a live crowd of 18,467 fans inside the sold-out Delta Center in Salt Lake City. With a total of eleven fights on the card, the world-class fighting showcase was broadcast live on ESPN pay-per-view.

Monster Energy’s Gaethje (25-4) came to Salt Lake City after recently defeating Rafael Fiziev at UFC 286 in March. Going against 34-year-old Poirier (29-8) from Louisiana, Gaethje had a special score to settle: In 2018, the two collided in the Octagon, with Poirier earning a TKO defeat in the fourth round. Time for a rematch!

In the bout for the iconic BMF Belt, both fighters started by throwing heavy kicks to the body. During the explosive exchanges, Poirier looked to have the upper hand in Round 1 after opening a cut above Gaethje’s left eyebrow. But that was about to change…

Heading into the second round, Gaethje maintained the pressure while waiting for the right opening to land big. It arrived when Gaethje connected a hard overhand right that stunned Poirier. Without missing a beat, Gaethje proceeded to land a surgical left kick right between his opponent’s neck and chin that sent Poirier straight to the canvas, knocked out cold.

At 1:00 of Round 2, referee Herb Dean called a stop to the fight pronouncing Gaethje the winner by KO.

Celebrating the victory with a backflip off the cage, Gaethje said about settling the score at UFC 291:

“Unlike any other sport on earth, you rarely get a chance at redemption. We take a loss, and it just sits with us and eats away. We usually don’t get another chance so to come back and prove myself, I believed in myself the whole time.”

The epic knockout victory also earned Gaethje the UFC’s Performance of the Night bonus with a $50,000 payout. He has now won 20 of his 25 fights by knockout and is the second fighter to win the iconic BMF Belt after Jorge Masvidal.

The victory also puts Gaethje in line for a title shot in the 155-pound division. “You know what I want to do next. I want to fight for the world championship!” said Gaethje. “I want to prove I’m the best in the world. Win, lose, or draw, max effort is what you’re going to get from me. Luck and chance are a factor, and I’m willing to roll the dice any f-ing day.”

Also, the UFC 291 co-main event marked the Light Heavyweight division debut of 36-year-old Alex Pereira (8-2) from Brazil. Pereira is the UFC’s former Middleweight Champion and was looking to return to the winner’s bracket after losing the title to Israel Adesanya at UFC 287. Pereira’s opponent, 40-year-old Blachowicz from Cieszyn, Poland, also wanted a victory after earning a draw against Magomed Ankalaev in December 2022.

The co-main event fight pitted Pereira’s raw knockout power against Blachowicz’s grappling skills. Round 1 saw the Polish fighter control Pereira on the ground but unable to lock in a submission. Next, the Brazilian bounced back in the second round to land heavy shots while wearing out his opponent’s gas tank.

Round 3 proved very close as a worn-down Blachowicz found himself on the receiving end of Pereira’s punishing leg kicks. With his left leg visibly damaged, Blachowicz was forced to switch stances and absorbed a heavy left hook from Pereira before the bell. When all was said and done, the judges pronounced Pereira the winner by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28).

After his successful debut in the 205-pound division, Pereira had one clear message for fans. “I want to be champion of this division,” said Pereira in his post-fight interview. Stay tuned for more!

Monster Energy’s Maycee Barber Defeats Amanda Ribas And Earns the UFC’s $50,000 Performance of the Night Bonus at UFC Fight Night in Jacksonville, Florida

Another show-stopping victory! Monster Energy congratulates Maycee “The Future” Barber on defeating Amanda Ribas at UFC Fight Night Jacksonville. In the co-main event fight contested in the Women’s Flyweight division, the 25-year-old from Greeley, Colorado, brutalized her opponent to a second-round TKO victory. The no-holds-barred battle also earned Barber the UFC’s $50,000 Performance of the Night Bonus.

Also on the main card, 27-year-old Brendan Allen from Beaufort, South Carolina, dominated Brazil’s Bruno Silva to a spectacular submission victory in the first round.

UFC Fight Night: Emmett vs. Topuria was contested in front of a high-energy crowd inside VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena. With 14 fights on the card, the world-class fighting showcase was broadcast live on ESPN+ and ABC 5 Television.

Monster Energy’s Barber (13-2) came to Jacksonville riding a four-fight win streak after most recently defeating Andrea Lee at UFC Fight Night San Antonio in March 2023.

Her opponent, Brazilian MMA athlete Ribas (11-4), most recently earned a decision victory against Viviane Araujo at UFC 285 in March 2023. In terms of weight classes, Riba split time between strawweight and flyweight, and according to sports analysts, presented the biggest test of Barber’s career so far.

The pressure was palpable as the fight got underway, with Ribas edging Barber against the fence only to receive a fierce elbow to the face that opened a headwound early in the fight. Barber proved her strong takedown defense when Ribas attempted a headlock and answered a knee bar attempt by scoring big hits from the top. Gaining the upper hand, the end of Round 1 saw Barber dealing massive ground-and-pound damage as Ribas held on until the bell.

The second round started with Ribas returning fire after a takedown attempt and drawing blood from Barber. Showing her grit, Barber defended against headlock takedown and can opener attempts. Remaining on the offense, Barber continued to land significant shots while also sustaining visible damage in what proved one of the most ferocious and bloody fights the Women’s Flyweight division has seen to date.

Barber’s path to victory opened when she landed a stiff head kick that stunned Ribas, followed by a riveting right hand to the jaw. Seizing the moment, Barber swarmed her opponent with a heavy left-right combo that dropped Ribas to the canvas. Staying in close pursuit, Barber kept raining damaging elbows and punches on her bloodied adversary until referee Keith Peterson called a stop to the savage fight at 3:42 minutes, pronouncing Barber the winner by TKO.

“I feel like I’m a shark. I’m going to come for that blood, and when I see it, I’m coming for it!” said Barber upon winning her fight at UFC Fight Night Jacksonville, adding: “It feels like I just warned the whole 125-pound division that I’m back!”

Barber made her MMA debut on the Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA) circuit. In 2018, she joined the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) after a knockout performance on Dana White’s Contender Series and earned the nickname “The Future.”

New Monster Energy athlete “All In” Allen (22-5) came to Jacksonville on a four-fight win streak. Most recently, the rising middleweight contender defeated Andre Muniz in the headline fight at UFC Night 220 in February 2023. Previously, he defeated Krzysztof Jotko, Jacob Malkoun, and Sam Alvey and remains undefeated since February 2022.

Allen’s opponent, Silva (23-9) from Cajazeiras, Brazil, recently earned a thunderous first-round TKO victory over Brad Tavares at UFC Fight Night 222 in April. Would the Brazilian powerhouse put an end to Allen’s victory streak?

Opening the fight, Allen brought the pressure with several high kick attempts to keep Silva on his toes. After Silva defended against a takedown attempt, Allen landed a punishing elbow from the top. Silva stood his ground with a sharp punch that hurt Allen, only to collect instant payback by way of a clean punch followed by another takedown.

The fight’s decisive scene unfolded after Allen absorbed a heavy punch from Silva and fired back an unstoppable combo, dropping the Brazilian to the canvas with a clean right. With Silva slumped against the side of the cage, Allen assumed side control to lock in a rear-naked choke – and it was all over! At 4:39 minutes of Round 1, referee Marc Goddard declared Allen the winner by submission.

“I’m the youngest guy in the top 15 with some of the most fights. I’m really doing this, I’ve been out here, and I haven’t even reached my prime. I haven’t shown everything. I will be the next champion,” said Allen upon winning his fight at UFC Fight Night Jacksonville.

Looking ahead, Allen has his eyes on a title shot: “I’m the only guy to be able to threaten the actual champion everywhere. So, with that being said, Izzy… ‘And New’ in 2024! I’m coming!”

This win brings Allen’s professional record to 10 wins, two losses in the UFC promotion. Allen has now earned four of his past five wins via rear-naked choke submissions.

Allen made his professional MMA debut in 2015 and earned two Middleweight Championship titles in the Legacy Fighting Alliance promotion. After an outstanding performance on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2019, the black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu earned a UFC contract and has been climbing in the Middleweight division rankings.
