Nomadix Becomes a Social Purpose Corporation

Environmentally conscious consumer goods company transitions from for-profit LLC to social purpose corporation to put environmental and social initiatives in line with profit.

Nomadix Becomes a Social Purpose Corporation

This is one way for us to make sure our use of certified post-consumer recycled materials and other environmentally conscious objectives are built into the DNA of Nomadix for the long term.

Nomadix, SPC (formerly Nomadix, LLC) is pleased to announce that it has transitioned to a Social Purpose Corporation under the jurisdiction of the state of Washington. Its operations center will be located in San Clemente, California, and the company’s operations will continue as usual. This corporate structural change will protect the company’s triple bottom line approach, making decisions that factor in the benefit of the environment, its employees and customers, in addition to its financial profits.

Social Purpose Corporations can pursue social and financial goals, and have the agency to put those social goals ahead of maximizing profit “in a manner intended to promote positive short-term or long-term effects of, or minimize adverse short-term or long-term effects of, the corporation’s activities upon any or all of (1) the corporation’s employees, suppliers or customers; (2) the local, state, national or world community; or (3) the environment.”

Nomadix co-founder and CEO Zack Helminiak said, “A Social Purpose Corporation acts as a hybrid of a for-profit corporation, which has a duty to maximize financial profits for shareholders, and a non-profit organization, which is prohibited from distributing profits and may have 501(c)(3) tax exempt status. Nomadix runs as a for-profit business, but not at the expense of the environment. This is one way for us to make sure our use of certified post-consumer recycled materials and other environmentally conscious objectives are built into the DNA of Nomadix for the long term.”

Nomadix co-founder and COO Chace Petersen said, “Changing corporate structures might seem trivial, but as a fast-growing company, it was important for us to build a business that will stand the test of time. We hold the company and its manufacturing process responsible to its employees, customers, shareholders, and the environment. Building a corporate structure on that foundation is the ethical path to take, and we are excited to build on this for the future.”

Nomadix co-founder and President Hunter Robinson said, “We know this approach to building a business will become the norm in the future and will lead to better prosperity for all shareholders and communities. Considering overall business impact on all levels will lead to a stronger and healthier company and ecosystem in which to operate.”

The Nomadix SPC Social Purpose Annual Report can be found on its website.

About Nomadix:

Every Nomadix product is made with certified post-consumer recycled material according to the Global Recycle Standard. Nomadix launched “The Only Towel You Need” in 2015, and while it is still the number one selling product, it now produces ultralight towels, festival blankets, and ponchos. As a Washington State Social Purpose Corporation, Nomadix works on a triple bottom line, making decisions that factor in the benefit of the environment, its employees and customers, and financial profits.

Stayhealthy Teams Up With Former NBA Player Kareem Rush

News Image

Stayhealthy has announced that it has partnered with former NBA basketball player and health education activist, Kareem Rush, and his educational foundation. The joint initiative will leverage Stayhealthy’s mobile education and activity platforms including Color Quest AR, which has been selected by Apple as one of their favorite apps for children, received favorable reviews from many industry journals, and is being downloaded and used in over 180 countries worldwide. In addition, the program will also be using The Body Fact Index, a new platform designed to give the user control of their health and featuring personalized augmented reality representations of the bodily organs. Both will contribute to the Rush Forward Foundation’s programs that provide inner city youth with educational activities about health and wellness.

“Kareem is an icon,” said Ziggy Kormandel, Stayhealthy’s President. “His career as a successful professional athlete playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, Indiana Pacers, Philadelphia 76ers and others, has made him a role model who can speak with authority about the benefits of healthy living and activity. We admire his dedication to giving back to his community and are thrilled to be part of the incredible work that he is doing for young people through his foundation.”

“Stayhealthy’s philosophy of educating and engaging children about health is right on point with our work at Rush Forward—especially with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America,” stated Kareem Rush. “The Boys Club is where I first fell in love with basketball. So, bringing in the champions and celebrities who are passing through town is a great way to show kids why keeping active and healthy eating is so important both on and off the court.”

“What Rush Forward is doing with its sports program is a perfect fit with our recent Snack Town All-Stars music videos released through Universal Music Group,” added Stayhealthy CEO, John Collins. “We designed these songs to be performed by characters from the successful Color Quest platform to get children up and dancing, and to learn about healthy foods at the same time. “The Stay Healthy Shake” and recent “Holiday Mashup” have now done over 900,000 views and streams, so families are really responding to the message. It’s also truly gratifying that Kareem agrees that education is entertainment, and the perfect way to engage and impact children for the better.”

Rush Forward was founded three years ago by Kareem Rush, who in addition to being a professional athlete, is also now a certified, personal trainer. The foundation’s mission is to use physical activity to inspire young people and their families to pursue active, healthy lifestyles. This year, Kareem plans on taking his sports curriculum to Africa as part of a sister program in Kenya with the Global One Foundation. The Stayhealthy campaign will benefit the Rush Forward Foundation through a social media “gives back” program that launches this month.

District Taco Introduces Beyond Meat Vegan Menu Item Itza

District Taco, a popular fast-casual Mexican restaurant based in the Washington D.C. Metro and Greater Philadelphia areas, has introduced their newest menu item, Itza – Beyond Carne. The plant-based vegan protein made with Beyond Meat will be available at all District Taco locations starting January 1, 2020.

The restaurant chain is committed to being a delicious, accommodating dining option for all customers. The current menu offers many options for those with specific dietary needs and the company is thrilled to be adding a new vegan protein to their repertoire.

“It brings us great joy to expand our menu with more healthy offerings for those looking to decrease meat consumption,” says Osiris Hoil, District Taco CEO and Co-Founder. “We want to make sure to have an innovative, delicious menu that appeals to all customers, regardless of dietary preferences or restrictions.”

By leveraging Beyond Meat, District Taco was able to create a vegan option that looks and tastes great and also satisfies those that are seeking an option that is similar to ground beef. Itza has 14 grams of protein per serving, beating out many current meat-based menu items. Itza is soy-free, gluten-free, and non-GMO. This Beyond Meat formula is made from a base of pea-protein, and is cooked with fresh vegetables and spices for a flavor unique to District Taco.

“For over a decade since we founded District Taco, my family and I have been trying to reduce our personal consumption of meat for health and environmental reasons. Our new Itza recipe not only satisfies that craving for ground beef in a taco or burrito, it nails it,” adds Marc Wallace, District Taco’s Co-Founder, “I’m confident that vegetarians, vegans and meat-eaters alike will love Itza.”

Diners can find full nutritional and ingredient information on the District Taco website, along with an interactive nutrition calculator for those interested in viewing the details of their customized meals.

“District Taco is proud to be a restaurant chain that caters to absolutely everyone,” Hoil says. “Our goal is to have fresh, healthy options for anyone craving an authentic Mexican meal.”

About District Taco

In 2009, two neighbors, Osiris Hoil and Marc Wallace, got together over some homemade chips, salsa and guacamole and decided to launch District Taco as a food cart. Since then, District Taco has since grown to fourteen locations and employs over 400 people in and around the Washington D.C. Metro and Greater Philadelphia area.

Our mission is to serve quality Mexican (Yucatán style!) food that is fresh, simple and healthy. All of our food is made fresh daily from the highest quality ingredients. We strive to limit our impact on the environment by serving in environmentally-friendly packaging when possible.

Weight Loss Surgery Study Showing Reduced Complications during Second Pregnancies Highlights Hidden Benefits for Many Patients, says West Medical

Gastric balloons are one of a number of newer, nonsurgical bariatric procedures that are helping patients around the world.

No matter what weight loss surgery or procedure patients choose, [bariatric patients] are committing to a healthier lifestyle.

A December 6 article on Reuters reports on a new study that found a correlation between weight loss surgery and fewer complications including high blood pressure and premature birth before or during second pregnancies. The study specifically found that women who had bariatric surgery between their first and their second pregnancies were less likely to suffer adverse pregnancy outcomes the second time around. Weight loss clinic West Medical of Southern California says that the findings add to a huge and rapidly growing mountain of data supporting the health benefits of weight loss surgery.

West Medical says that there are several different forms of weight loss surgery, each with their own set of pros and cons. The clinic notes that viable options for patients looking to lose large amounts of weight include gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, endoscopic gastroplasty, and more. West Medical adds that the older surgical procedures have certain qualifiers to be met as outlined by the medical community: patients must meet the medical definition of severe obesity which involves having a high BMI (body mass index). The criteria also take weight-related health issues such as high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes into account. The clinic does note that patients who do not quite meet those requirements or who would prefer to avoid surgery are not out of options. Specifically, gastric balloon and gastroplasty are all viable nonsurgical options that have less stringent requirements.

The weight loss medical group notes that, no matter what weight loss surgery or procedure patients choose, they are committing to a healthier lifestyle that allows for more energy, decreased pain, enhanced self-esteem, and many other benefits. The clinic says that its patients who undergo successful weight loss treatments consistently find that their obesity-related ailments tend to disappear after losing significant amounts of weight.

West Medical says that obese individuals who are concerned about the cost of weight loss surgery or procedures should know that insurance may cover some or all of the relevant costs in many instances. Moreover, complications from obesity are exceedingly common and those who do not find a way to lose weight may eventually find themselves paying a very high price regardless, the clinic adds, saying that a proactive stance towards weight loss can turn out to be a very wise investment in a healthier and happier life.

NEW Environmental-Facing Skin Care Line is a Game Changer

Amethyst Skincare

Amethyst Skincare makes its debut today as the FIRST skin care line created for the sole purpose of protecting the skin from the declining environment. The brand launches with three essential products: Daily Nutrition Facial Oil, Nightly AOX Micro Peel and Daily Airborne Pollution and Smog Neutralizer. The brainchild of beauty veteran, Nicole Simpson, Amethyst was formulated to nourish and protect the skin from environmental stressors such as pollution, UV exposure, ground-level ozone, and stress.

Just like the Amethyst stone is known for its healing properties, Amethyst Beauty uses potent ingredients and an innovative delivery system to heal the skin by restoring the skin barrier while also arming it with the basic needs to neutralize all the environment’s free radicals. The paraben, gluten and cruelty-free products designed to act as a supplement to everyday skincare, includes:

  •     Daily Nutrition Facial Oil ($75): Formulated with a proprietary blend of jasmine, neroli, and marula oils helps manage skin discoloration and protect against pollution-related aging, hormonal aging, and environmental stress. Infused with vitamin E to protect the skin against pollution, ground-level ozone and UV, as well as Omega 6 and 9 fatty acids.
  •     Daily Airborne Pollution and Smog Neutralizer ($34): This nutrient-dense hydrating protective spray combines vitamin C and niacinamide with vitamins B5, E, A, and a proprietary pollution-neutralizing botanical complex of super antioxidants. They work synergistically to neutralize the free radicals created from the many different types of pollutants we encounter on our skin each day – including ground-level ozone, superoxide, nitrous-oxide and others.
  •     Nightly AOX Micro peel ($85): This unprecedented combination of glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and retinol in one formula boosts cell turnover and collagen production while r-lipoic acid re-energizes cells from the inside out. Discolorations are lightened, wrinkles are smoothed, radiance is boosted, and free radicals removed from lack of sleep and environmental exposure. It also helps prepare skin for enhanced penetration of other skincare products and active ingredients.

Amethyst is committed to being environmentally conscious in its formulation, packaging and production. To reduce stress on environmental resources most of the products are in glass containers and are created with reduced water use. While more than 85 percent of beauty products are not recyclable, Amethyst products are 100 percent recyclable and the brand will provide customers with the opportunity to mail back empty bottles to ensure they are properly disposed.

“The beauty industry is a big contributor to that [pollution] – sourcing to countries like China & India because of the cost,” says Amethyst creator, Nicole Simpson. “We need someone to lead the charge and get real with consumers.”

In addition to the brand’s recycling program Amethyst is committed to donating 5 percent of every purchase to 4ocean – an amazing non-profit that works hard every day to remove plastic from our oceans.

Amethyst Skincare is available at SkinByAmethyst.com.
