Nike Field Hockey Camp in Massachusetts to Offer More Sessions for 2020

We love bring more opportunities for girls to work with college coaches and help them get ready for their upcoming season.

2020 marks the 14th year running the Nike Field Hockey Camp at Williams College in Williamstown, MA, and every season sees over 100 athletes cross Williamson Field.

Williams College recently finished up its 2019 season with multiple players receiving All-Conference and NFHCA honors as well as a semi-final finish in the conference championships. Coach Alix Barrale and Chris Mason will continue to co-direct all three sessions of the field hockey camp for this upcoming summer.

“We are very excited to be offering another week of field hockey this summer,” says Barrale. “We love bring more opportunities for girls to work with college coaches and help them get ready for their upcoming season.”

The new third Massachusetts field hockey camp session will follow the same format as the normal offerings at Williams College, a Sunday-Wednesday Overnight/Extended Day program that is open to all skill levels. Barrale and Mason will continue to provide players a fun atmosphere that will include a mix of drills, live games, and positional work.

As a partner camp of USA Field Hockey, Coach Barrale is also sanctioned to make referrals to the USAFH Futures program.

We are excited to welcome Coach Freeman to the Lions family. As a highly respected coach in the softball community, she brings a wealth of knowledge, connections and enthusiasm to the Lions.

Camper favorite, Nike Baseball Camps, will be returning to Vanguard University and will be joined for the first time by Nike Softball Camps.

Directing the Nike Softball Camp will be first year Head Coach Amber Freeman. Coach Freeman enjoyed a stellar playing career at Arizona State University. Freeman was a three-time All-American and was the 2013 Pac-12 Player of the Year before she went on to Play with the USA National Team and USSSA Pride in National Pro Fastpitch.

“We are excited to welcome Coach Freeman to the Lions family. As a highly respected coach in the softball community, she brings a wealth of knowledge, connections and enthusiasm to the Lions. Her experience at the highest level of competition and her genuine desire to lead student-athletes to reach their full potential spiritually, academically, athletically and socially made her an excellence choice to lead the next era of the Vanguard softball program,” remarked Jeff Bussell, Director of Athletics.

The Nike Baseball Camp at Vanguard will again be led by Head Coach Robert Pegg. Coach Pegg had an instant impact on the Lions baseball team. Since taking over in 2013, Vanguard have gone 226-156-2. In 2019, the Lions had a made a post-season run but were defeated in the conference championship game. The baseball camp was a big hit last summer in its inaugural year, with both parents and campers; “He made new friends with shared interests. He said he feels more confident in batting and learned a lot. He wants to return next year as the experience was GREAT!” stated Parent Yvonne V.

The Softball camp will take place from July 13 – 16 while the Vanguard Baseball Camp will be held from June 29 – July 2.

“Arthur Murray Dance Studios from New York to California have told us that students come in asking to learn Bachata because they saw people dancing in a club or on YouTube and they want to learn,” said Tom Murdock, Vice President, Events and Promotions at Arthur Murray International.

At the start of a new year and a new decade, a survey of Arthur Murray Dance Studios points to Bachata as the most popular dance of 2020, with Salsa a close second. Bachata is not a new dance, but has grown in recent years from dance clubs to mainstream. Bachata is one of a family of Latin dances, including Salsa, Cha Cha and Merengue, that are danced to upbeat music with lots of “Latin rhythm” – that’s dance-speak for swinging hips.

Bachata originated in the countryside of the Dominican Republic, and combines movements and music from the Dominican Republic, Africa, and Europe. It can be danced closely, with partners holding each other in a close embrace, or fast, with dancers holding hands and maximizing their hip swivels. It’s a sexy dance and works well for couples who want to keep it simple, or for skilled dancers, who can add more complex moves.

Last Sunday’s free mini-market and outdoor yoga event far exceeded expectations of event organizers, drawing hundreds to the lawn adjacent to Botanica Day Spa for a morning of gratitude, wellness and yoga.

Late 2019 marked 25 years in business for the Spa, and owner Gen Obolensky decided it was time to roll out the red carpet for clients and neighbors as a symbol of gratitude for the quarter-century milestone. “The goal was to bring our community together,” says Obolensky. “Our clients come from all over and it’s been 25 incredible years of growth and support, and it felt like the right time to simply say thank you.”
