Dr. Derrick Lonsdale Offers “A Nutritional Approach to a Revised Model for Medicine” in New Book

A Nutritional Approach to a Revised Model for Medicine by Dr. Derrick Lonsdale

A Nutritional Approach to a Revised Model for Medicine by Dr. Derrick Lonsdale

“Dr. Lonsdale shows his brilliance yet once again. A true pioneer in alternative medicine, his wide breadth of knowledge, wisdom, and experience form to make this an excellent read.” – Laura DeVincentis, ND, LAc

Can a simple change in diet make all the difference? Could the obesity, diabetes, and a host of other diseases be the result of eating too much sugar? Is alternative medicine the answer? These questions and more are answered in the illuminating book by longtime physician, Dr. Derrick Lonsdale, M.D., who draws attention to the dangers of excessive sugar ingestion that is so widespread today.

His book “A Nutritional Approach to a Revised Model for Medicine: Is Modern Medicine Helping You?” cites case reports to illustrate these dangers and explains which symptoms may be stemmed in the early stages. But if symptoms are left unrecognized and behavior is unmodified, these symptoms become less treatable, giving rise to chronic diseases and serious health problems.

As Dr. Lonsdale writes in his book: “The doctor does not heal anyone. It is the body that heals itself and the doctor must teach the patient how to retrieve his or her own health and that is what the New Medicine is all about. We must conclude that it is the ratio of calories to the vitamin/mineral nutrients required to process the calories like the analogy of the choked internal combustion engine.”

His 5-Star Amazon reviews include:

“Dr. Lonsdale shows his brilliance yet once again. A true pioneer in alternative medicine, his wide breadth of knowledge, wisdom, and experience form to make this an excellent read. I highly recommend this latest book by a man who has spent a lifetime studying medicine and caring for his patients as a true humanitarian.” – Laura DeVincentis, ND, LAc

“Very interesting, written for the layman in easy-to-read language.” – Victoria J. Atkin

“Dr. Derrick Lonsdale has been well recognized by his colleagues as having significant expertise in helping children and even adults with autism spectrum disorders. With over 60 years of clinical experience including 20 as a pediatrician at the Cleveland Clinic, he has now written a highly relevant book on a covert and very common underlying cause of numerous frustrating and expensive illnesses that increasingly plague western civilizations. More importantly, he also shows the simple remedial solutions.” – Michael Godfrey

About the Author: Derrick Lonsdale, M.D., was born in Lancashire, England, and earned an MB.BS. at London University. He worked in medical practice for 64 years, retiring at the age of 88. Dr. Lonsdale is a Fellow of the American College for Advancement in Medicine (ACAM), an international professional organization that represents the alternative medicine field. He has written two previous books on alternative medicine and published over 100 medical papers.

“Dr. Derrick Lonsdale provides the nutritional and health care answers we need in his no-nonsense book. If you have health care problems, this is the book for you. We are thrilled to be the publisher,” said Robert Fletcher, CEO of Strategic Book Publishing and Rights Agency.

Schools Incorporate Fitness Apps into their Coronavirus Shutdown Planning

Schools have been using Sworkit for years, but a few weeks ago we started getting reports of how Sworkit is helping educators mitigate Coronavirus disruptions

“Schools have been using Sworkit for years, but a few weeks ago we started getting reports of how Sworkit is helping educators mitigate Coronavirus disruptions,” states Sworkit’s CEO, Gregory Coleman. He goes on to say, “English-speaking schools on indefinite lockdown in China and other parts of Asia were starting to tell us how their students and faculty were using Sworkit to stay in shape and to get out the excess energy while being confined to their homes.”

Although Sworkit’s fitness app was originally designed for adults looking to work out at home, in 2018, Sworkit started providing its paid subscription program, including content filmed with and for children, to schools at no cost through its Sworkit Youth Initiative. Within 18 months of launch, nearly 4,500 schools in 49 states and 30 countries signed up for the program, making it available to over 3,700,000 students worldwide.

In the last week, Sworkit has been actively communicating with schools in California and the state of Washington, to include some in the Greater Seattle area. Joe Bisignano, Director of PE, Health and Wellness at a school in Seattle, WA states, “As a school, we have been charged with figuring out ways to teach remotely in the event that we have to close the school. We are trying to figure out how Sworkit might be part of that plan.”

Bisignano goes on to share more about the challenges teachers are facing, “As we look at having students out of the building and away from school, one of our big fears is that their overall health will suffer in our attempt to keep them from getting sick. We need to be able to give them options that bring motivation, structure, purpose, and accountability. Based on what we have seen with students using the app at school we are optimistic that for some of our students – Sworkit checks most, if not all of those boxes.” That school is also planning on recommending that students work out for 30 minutes each day or 60 minutes every other day.

“This is a scenario we never imagined. We started the Sworkit Youth Initiative to empower teachers and give them a tool to make fitness fun and accessible to students. To see things rapidly evolve like this shows how important connected fitness is in 2020 and how the productive use of technology can not only improve lives but also mitigate disruptions to it”, Sworkit’s Greg Coleman says.

A statement by another educator at school in China sums up the response of many educators and parents. He states, “What your company has done for our children and staff will not be forgotten.”

Yoga Science CME Conference Offers 36 Tools for Physicians and Healthcare Workers Dealing with Coronavirus Outbreak and Other Burnout Issues

2019 AMI Conference Attendees

The more often the therapeutic practices of Yoga Science are incorporated into the daily lives of physicians and other healthcare professionals, the better equipped they will be to redefine every ‘problem’ as simply a situation that they are confident to deal with. – Leonard Perlmutter, AMI Founder

The nation’s only comprehensive training in Yoga Science and meditation as holistic mind/body medicine will be taught at The American Meditation Institute’s (AMI) 32 credit hour CME conference October 20-24, 2020 at the Wyndhurst Manor & Club Resort at Miraval in Lenox, Massachusetts. Entitled The Heart and Science of Yoga, this 12th annual event is accredited through the American Medical Association and American Nurses Association, and is designed to help identify, prevent and relieve stress and burnout experienced by physicians and healthcare professionals in dealing with the extraordinary demands created by today’s medical culture and the coronavirus epidemic.

According to the annual “National Physician Burnout, Depression & Suicide Report” recently published in Medscape Report the rate of burnout among physicians has remained high over the past few years. This is troubling given that an average of 69% of physicians across all generations report that burnout has a moderate to severe impact their lives. The fallout from burnout symptoms follows physicians into their personal lives as well. Approximately 73% of physicians say burnout has an impact on their relationships.

The dedication, enthusiasm, and teaching methodology of the entire AMI faculty create a dynamic and interactive course for their students. Each faculty member is committed to the advancement and training of Yoga Science as holistic mind/body medicine. This year’s faculty includes Leonard Perlmutter, AMI founder and conference director; Michael Greger MD, founding member and Fellow of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine and internationally recognized speaker and best-selling author; Sat Bir Singh Khalsa PhD, Director of Research for the Kundalini Research Institute, and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School; Anthony Santilli MD, board-certified in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine; Jesse Ritvo MD, Assistant Medical Director, Inpatient Psychiatry, University of Vermont Health Center; Renee Rodriguez-Goodemote MD, Medical Director of the Saratoga Hospital Community Health Center; Joshua Zamer MD, Medical Director for Addiction Medicine at Saratoga Hospital Community Health Center and Chairman of the Department of Family Practice; Anita Burock-Stotts MD, board certified in Internal Medicine; Janine Pardo MD, board-certified Internist emphasizing Preventive Care, and founder of the Weston Internal Medicine and Wellness Center in Weston, MA; Gustavo Grodnitzky PhD, Chair of the AMI Psychological Education Committee; Kristin Kaelber, MD, board-certified in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics in Cleveland, Ohio; Jenness Cortez Perlmutter, faculty member of The American Meditation Institute, and Lee Albert, NMT, acclaimed neuromuscular therapist and gentle yoga instructor.

As part of its ongoing effort to redress the physician burnout issue, The American Meditation Institute in 2009 conducted a retrospective case study of participants who previously completed “The Heart and Science of Yoga” curriculum. The findings included these positive, reproducible, long-term health-promoting changes: significant reductions in stress and fear, decreased anxiety and depression, lowered blood pressure, lowered heart rate, improved restorative sleep, improved energy levels, increased creative capacity, diminishment of migraine headaches, elimination of irritable bowel syndrome, enhanced happiness and optimism, reduced cholesterol levels, diminished or extinguished acute and chronic pain, weight loss and increased breathing capacity.

According to AMI founder and conference director Leonard Perlmutter, “The interface of lifestyle, inflammation and allostatic load is where meaningful change can happen. The more consistently the therapeutic practices of Yoga Science are incorporated into the daily lives of physicians and other healthcare professionals, the better equipped they will be to redefine every “problem” as simply a situation that they are confident to deal with.”

Keyvan Hariri MD, board certified in Family Medicine in Manhattan Beach California and a “Heart and Science of Yoga” conference alumni. In his final evaluation he wrote, “This curriculum has been transformational, inspiring and self-empowering. I highly recommend this conference to every healthcare practitioner.”

Additionally, the glasses are comfortable and easy to wear while executing a wide variety of tasks under a range of conditions.

“Our eyewear offers the widest field of view with Augmented Reality (AR) on the market today, to improve the vision for those with Age Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and other retinal challenges,” says Jay Cormier, Founder and CEO of Eyedaptic. “Through this partnership, we have the potential to reach more people struggling with the daily challenges that accompany low vision. This opportunity to share our technology with such a diverse crowd and get the word out on how we can improve millions of people’s lives is an honor.”

“We are excited about this opportunity to improve accessibility with state-of-the-art technology,” says Vispero Vice President, North America Sales, Richard Tapping. “Those with low vision and other retinal conditions will have an opportunity to regain the independence they once knew.”
