Local Georgia Businessman, Rick Mayo, CEO Of Alloy Personal Training Franchise, One Of The First Gym Businesses To Reopen After Nationwide Lockdown

Alloy PT Franchise Reopens After Nationwide Lockdown

Rick Mayo, Alloy Personal Training Franchise

Communication on how you are going to open is important for members to make an informed decision. Overall the general sentiment has been really positive.

Local Georgia businessman and entrepreneur, Rick Mayo, was among one of the first businesses to reopen after a nationwide lockdown, successfully opening both Georgia based Alloy personal training locations in Roswell and Suwanee.

Mayo has owned and operated the award-winning Alloy Personal Training studio with two locations in Georgia for 30 years and began franchising the concept nationally late last year. Alloy was one of the last businesses able to remain open because the fitness concept met all the Georgia requirements for proper social distancing and other safety precautions. The closure for Alloy lasted four weeks, with both locations reopening during stage 1. One location opened on April 27th and the other on May 3rd.

Alloy quickly responded to the unprecedented closure and pivoted their offering to digital-only via the Alloy Personal Training App in the wake of the closure. Alloy immediately loaned equipment to members and created three personalized workouts for each member based on available equipment they had at home.

The team at Alloy said that they were anticipating smaller numbers, however many people returned, and the schedules are quickly returning to normal. The Alloy for Women only facility opened with a reduced capacity of 4 people per hour (usually eight people per hour) and booked all available hours. The flagship location, in Rosewell, referred to as “the mothership,” also reduced spaces and are training six people with one coach and can maintain safe social distancing and keeping people in their own space.

The Alloy Team thoroughly cleaned and sanitized and shared their progress openly with the Alloy community. According to Mayo, “The general sentiment has been really positive, and people are slowly returning to normal activities, 50% of our members have already returned in the first week. One firmly stating that the Alloy facility was “50 times cleaner than the produce department.”

Both locations, in addition to the deep sanitizing, have also implemented other precautionary measures such as:

  • Prominent hand washing supplies and reminders
  • Keeping the front door cracked open
  • Locker room door to remain slightly open for increased ventilation
  • Footplates to open doors
  • Increased sanitation of equipment
  • Limits on the number of people in the gyms at any one time
  • Mask and gloves are welcome but not required

“Safety is what is important to the community, and a safe community is what is important to us,” says Suzanne Robb, COO of Alloy Personal Training.

“Messaging on how you are going to open is important. It gives clients the ability to make an informed decision based on knowing things like how many people will be allowed in each session, handling of the equipment, and what is expected of members and coaches. This communication lets them know that you are thinking ahead to take care of them by limiting their exposure to other,.” says Anthony Wilkins, Co-Owner of the Alloy for Women location in Suwanee, GA.

Georgia was one of the last states to be affected by the shutdown and the first to reopen successfully. The Alloy businesses paid their entire staff during the shutdown and collected reduced membership dues by offering virtual training from almost 80% of members.

Renowned Biofeedback Expert Helps Clinicians Optimize Health in Clients Working from Home

Incorrect ergonomic arrangement and stressed work style often increases neck and shoulder discomfort, and aggravates eye strain and tiredness.

While many modern workstations have been ergonomically designed with the well-being of the occupant in mind, that may not be the case for the average home office. With a huge segment of the workforce now working from home due to COVID-19, the typical “home office” might just be a place at the kitchen table, a small desk in a spare bedroom or even a spot on the couch. According to Dr. Erik Peper, Professor of Holistic Health Studies at San Francisco State University and President of the Biofeedback Federation of Europe, “Incorrect ergonomic arrangement and stressed work style often increases neck, shoulder discomfort and aggravates eye strain and tiredness.” His book, “Muscle Biofeedback at the Computer” co-authored with Katherine Hughes Gibney, provides a wealth of information for health practitioners on how to assess and train their clients in various biofeedback techniques for optimal health while working at the computer.

The digital version of the book has been made available as a free download from the Biofeedback Federation of Europe. It is ideal for clinicians already using biofeedback as well as those interested in learning how access to physiological data can aid in better outcomes for their clients.

Dr. Peper offers many tips on things that individuals can do to minimize the challenges of working from home on his blog “the peper perspective.” Among them are scheduling mini breaks throughout the day, minimizing eye fatigue, practicing diaphragmatic breathing and optimizing arrangement of the home office setup. He explores these topics in depth in his forthcoming book “Tech Stress: How Technology Is Hijacking Our Lives, Strategies for Coping, and Pragmatic Ergonomics” (Peper, E., Harvey, R., & Faass) Berkeley: North Atlantic Books.

About Erik Peper, Ph.D., BCB

Erik is an international authority on biofeedback and self-regulation. Since 1970 he has been researching factors that promote healing. He is Professor of Holistic Health Studies, Institute for Holistic Health Studies, at San Francisco State University. He is President of the Biofeedback Federation of Europe and past President of the Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback. He holds Senior Fellow (Biofeedback) certification from the Biofeedback Certification Institute of America. He has a biofeedback practice at Biofeedback Health. He received the 2004 California Governor’s Safety Award for his work on Healthy Computing. He is an author of numerous scientific articles and books Make Health Happen, Fighting Cancer-A Nontoxic Approach to Treatment, and Biofeedback Mastery. His new co-authored book, TechStress: How Technology is Hijacking Our Lives, Strategies for Coping, and Pragmatic Ergonomics, will be published August, 2020. He publishes the blog, the peper perspective: ideas on illness, health and well-being, and is a recognized expert on holistic health, stress management and workplace health and has been featured on ABCNews.com and in GQ, Glamour, Men’s Health, the San Francisco Chronicle, Shape, and Women’s Health.

Why using current sanitation efforts will create more deadly superbugs – Betterair may be the solution

News Image

“We have to get away from the idea of annihilating these things in our local environment. It just plays upon fear.”

Even prior to the current health crisis, on average Americans spent as much as 90% of their time indoors. According to EPA studies, indoor air can be up to five times more polluted than outdoor air, exposing us to harmful organisms that make us sick and can weaken our immune systems. The CDC states 80% of all infectious diseases are transmitted by touch, underlying the need to ensure our surfaces and objects are free from the threat of these harmful pathogens as well. Betterair has designed solutions to resolve these problems that naturally clean your indoor air as well as surfaces.

One of the reasons our indoor environment is more unsafe is our over reliance on cleaning products and their claims to kill 99% of germs. In addition to killing germs, these products are killing good bacteria, which are necessary for healthy living. According to Dr. Keiji Fukuda in The New York Times, “We have to get away from the idea of annihilating these things in our local environment. It just plays upon fear.”

In fact, our overuse of chemical and artificial cleaners is creating superbugs that are resistant to current medicine. The more we sterilize, the more we will create superbugs that will result in deadlier pandemics. Scientific American warned of this potential development more than a decade ago, but we have continued in our overuse of these products and sterilization methods. This causes our immune system to weaken because we need to interact with nature and her natural occurring bacteria. According to Dr. Meg Lemon, in The New York Times, “Our immune system needs a job. We evolved over millions of years to have our immune systems under constant assault. Now they have nothing to do.”

It is essential we minimize our use of these cleansing products and balance our indoor ecology so that good bacteria can flourish while bad bacteria can be controlled. Betterair’s all-natural probiotic process removes the allergens, mold, and pathogens in the air and on surfaces without using synthetic means that can create superbugs. Betterair’s probiotics balance the indoor ecology, eliminating the threat these organisms pose. While other purifiers kill the good bacteria along with the bad, Betterair does not. Plus Betterair is safe, simple, and filter less.

Betterair provides ecological restoration indoors through patented, automated systems that disperse environmental probiotics into the air and on surfaces. The result is the reduction of illnesses, breathing disorders, allergic reactions and other pollutant-based ailments that are caused by these toxins. It’s time for us to work with Nature, not against it.

4 Fitness Brands Unite to Offer $20M in Incentives to Help Gyms Retain Members While Closed

#StayforMay Give Back Program

With over 90% of gyms shut down due to COVID-19, many are struggling…we feel a moral obligation to help gym owners do everything they can to stay in business, and knowing that membership dues keep the lights on, we’re hopeful this program helps gyms retain more members in May.

Thousands of independently owned and operated gyms have been forced to shut down as a result of COVID-19 and are struggling to retain members. In efforts to give back, four fitness brands have united to give gyms over $20M in incentives to offer their members who continue to keep their memberships active for the month of May.

The #StayforMay initiative is spearheaded by O2 Recovery Drink, an oxygenated recovery drink brand sold at grocery stores, online, and gyms throughout the United States that have been negatively impacted by COVID-19. O2, along with partner brands Born Primitive, Puori, and Bear KompleX, recently pledged 50% of profits from online sales in March and April to be donated back to gym owners. Now, they’re offering a combined $100 gift card to every gym member in America who belongs to a gym that has participated in their profit-sharing program (over 2,000 gyms to date) as long as the member continues to pay his or her membership dues for the month of May.

“Gym owners are some of the most critical members of our society responsible for keeping our community fit and healthy, which is more important now than ever,” said Dave Colina, O2’s Founder & CEO. “With over 90% of gyms shut down due to COVID-19, many are struggling to retain their members, and we don’t believe enough is being done for them. We feel a moral obligation to help gym owners do everything they can to stay in business, and knowing that membership dues keep the lights on, we’re hopeful this program helps gyms retain more members in May than they otherwise would have.”

“WOW!!!!!!! This just made me have a bit more hope. I am sending out an email about May memberships this week, and this is going to help myself and so many other gym owners out there,” said the owner of one participating CrossFit gym in Michigan.

“This is what effective help looks like. It’s literally more than my government or bank has done,” said the owner of another participating CrossFit gym in Ohio.

So far, the profit-sharing initiative has raised well into the six figures to be donated back to participating gyms. Gym members from all over the United States have rallied in support of their gym owners and favorite instructors, and the proof is in the voice of the fitness community. So far, the number of people across the United States that have supported their local gym as a result of the initiative is over 10,000 and growing exponentially each day. The gift card initiative is the final extension of that program, and gyms can enroll to offer this to their members until May 1.

If you are an independent gym owner that has been forced to close because of COVID-19, visit drinko2.com/stayformay to learn more about participating in this program.

This allows personal trainers to use PEAR Pro Trainer to create their own digital programming style, earn additional income through tele-coaching, and geographically expand their reach. Providing smart, human tele-coaching with bespoke content and guidance is particularly valuable now, while most gyms are closed, and clients are working out at home.

Dave Hannum, President/General Manager, PEAR Sports, said, “Today, personal trainers must be digitally connected with their clients. Pro Trainer is PEAR’s instant-publish program, designed and priced to provide professional fitness trainers with a complete tele-coaching platform. It’s extremely easy to use for both trainers and clients, providing instruction, inspiration and accountability over distance.”

Clint Martin, Level 5 and Division 1 Strength Coach, commented, “I need a mobile solution now, more than ever, to make sure we are able to keep a high level of training in the midst of all that is going on in the world today. PEAR Pro Trainer came through with a simple, effective digital program that gets the job done. My NFL off-season guys really love it.”
