RadioWaves Releases New Rugged, Small-Cell, Dual-Polarity Antennas

“Not only do these new antennas support MIMO capabilities along with dual polarization all in a compact design, but they are also weather-proof and built to handle extreme outdoor conditions,” said Kevin Hietpas, Product Line Manager

RadioWaves, an Infinite Electronics brand and a manufacturer of high-quality microwave antennas and accessories, has just released a new series of rugged, small-cell, dual-polarity antennas that are ideal for any industry requiring high performance, directional, outdoor wireless network coverage, including commercial, industrial, utility, military and telecom applications.

RadioWaves’ new series of rugged, small-cell antennas feature a dual-polarity feed system in a single enclosure. They are engineered for superior performance and specifically designed for rugged environments with a low-profile, aesthetically pleasing design. These antennas are ideal for point-to-point (PtP) or point-to-multi-point (PtMP) applications where form factor is a concern, and coverage of extended CBRS, public safety or 5 GHz networks is necessary. They boast a UV-resistant radome for all-weather operation and support MIMO capabilities.

These antennas incorporate advanced dual-polarization technology that allows for the interoperability of two radio transmit and receive paths. This technology also allows for the attenuation of unwanted signals from adjacent channels and/or co-located equipment.

Features and options for these new antennas include 3500-4200 MHz, 4400-5000 MHz and 5100-5800 MHz frequency range options, two Type-N female connectors, and a tilt and swivel mast mounting bracket with hardware, which makes these antennas very easy to install.

“Not only do these new antennas support MIMO capabilities along with dual polarization all in a compact design, but they are also weather-proof and built to handle extreme outdoor conditions,” said Kevin Hietpas, Product Line Manager.

RadioWaves’ new dual-polarized, flat panel and sector antennas are in-stock and available for same-day shipping.

Virtru Releases File-Sharing Solution for Secure Collaboration

We’re proud that Virtru’s Secure Share solution can empower organizations to safely collect the data they need, meanwhile protecting them from vulnerabilities that can lead to data breaches. -Rob McDonald, EVP of Platform, Virtru

Virtru, a leader in data protection and privacy, today announced Secure Share, an end-to-end encrypted file-sharing solution that accelerates secure collaboration.

With Secure Share, Virtru customers can simply and securely collect sensitive, private, or regulated data from colleagues, clients, and partners — empowering these individuals with verifiable trust that their data is only being used for its intended purpose for a specified period of time.

“From day one, Virtru’s mission has been to empower everyone to maintain full control of their most sensitive data, without limiting their ability to share it,” said John Ackerly, CEO and Co-Founder of Virtru. “In the age of accelerating data breaches, building verifiable trust with your customers and partners is a competitive advantage: Giving these individuals autonomy over their own data instills confidence, reduces the risk of data loss, and ultimately builds brand loyalty.”

Secure Share is unique among file-sharing platforms in that it grants full data ownership and control to the individual submitting the data. With Secure Share, Virtru customers can give their own clients and partners control over how and when their data is used, including the ability to revoke it at any time, should circumstances change. Users can also set an expiration date and add a watermark to shared information.

Secure Share streamlines collaboration, making it easy to collect data from multiple contributors, securely. The solution is valuable across a wide range of use cases, such as collecting financial information for a mortgage application; requesting tax forms or direct deposit information from contractors; collecting vendor proposals in response to a request for proposal (RFP); requesting medical records for new patients; and many more.

Each Virtru user’s personalized Secure Share link can be shared freely, anywhere they work — via text or video chat, in an email signature, or via collaboration software.

“In a cybersecurity environment that’s rapidly evolving, you have to assume that hackers are already inside your network,” said Rob McDonald, Virtru’s EVP of Platform. “It’s vital for security leaders to ensure their corporate data — and their customers’ data — remains protected at all times during its life cycle, from the moment it enters their cloud environment or on-prem systems. We’re proud that Virtru’s Secure Share solution can empower organizations to safely collect the data they need, meanwhile protecting them from vulnerabilities that can lead to data breaches.”

The solution encrypts all data prior to upload, equipping users to collect and exchange data from inside or outside their own organizations without security risk. Like Virtru’s other data protection offerings, Secure Share provides end-to-end encryption built on the Trusted Data Format (TDF), the leading data control standard for the U.S. intelligence community and widely recognized across the public and private sectors as the gold standard for data protection. TDF safeguards data to support compliance with even the strictest regulations, including CMMC, ITAR, CJIS, and HIPAA.

Secure Share will soon be available to all Virtru users at no additional cost. To learn more about the product and sign up for Virtru’s beta program, visit the Virtru website.

Regular Data Backup in Microsoft 365 Ensures Business Continuity

Data Backup in Microsoft 365

Organizations can more smoothly navigate disasters and cyber threats, prevent data loss, and strengthen regulatory compliance with backups.

Messaging Architects, an eMazzanti Technologies Company and NYC area data governance expert, stresses the need for regular data backup in Microsoft 365 in a new article. The informative article first reviews the most common causes of data loss, including accidental deletion and intentional employee destruction of data.

The author then explains the built-in Microsoft 365 data protection features and why users should go beyond them to implement regular backups. He then encourages business leaders to identify critical data and to preserve data organization and configuration.

“Organizations can more smoothly navigate disasters and cyber threats, prevent data loss, and strengthen regulatory compliance with backups,” stated Greg Smith, Vice President of Services Delivery at Messaging Architects. “While cloud migration changes the environment, data backup in Microsoft 365 is critical.”

Below are a few excerpts from the article, “Regular Data Backup in Microsoft 365 Ensures Business Continuity.”

Causes of Data Loss

“Cloud computing delivers anytime/anywhere access to data. Even if a disaster destroys the office, employees can still access critical data from remote locations. However, data loss presents a significant risk, even in the cloud. For instance, the most common cause of data loss involves employees accidentally deleting critical information.”

Need for Data Backup Goes Beyond Built-in Tools

“Microsoft 365 includes several tools designed to safeguard data. While these tools provide some measure of protection, organizations must understand the limitations. For example, in most cases, organizations fail to discover data loss until well beyond the period that Microsoft retains data. And Microsoft does not offer point-in-time recovery.”

Back Up Critical Business Data

“Backups represent a critical piece of business continuity. And, while Microsoft takes steps to protect user data, the responsibility for data backups rests largely on the customer organization. With careful planning, businesses can ensure that accidental deletion of a folder or even a ransomware event will not cause major disruption.”

Implementing Data Backup in Microsoft 365

The data governance experts at Messaging Architects deliver the tools and expertise to help organizations safeguard critical business data. They assist business leaders with optimal configuration of Microsoft 365, locating important data and implementing a full-featured business continuity plan that includes backups.

Festo Develops Innovative Solution for Nitrogen Dosing on Filling Lines

Controlling several flow rates with just one piece of hardware is now possible with the Flow control app for the Festo Motion Terminal.

Festo introduces at Pack Expo, September 27-29, Las Vegas, Booth # 6132, two apps that when used in combination improve the efficiency, flexibility, and energy savings of nitrogen gas dosing on filling lines. These and other apps for the intelligent Motion Terminal provide machine builders with the ability to not only shorten time to market and reduce components, but also to develop distinctive solutions for their customers.

The Flow Control Motion App enables nitrogen flushing on up to eight containers simultaneously through four valves. The up to 600 l/min flow rate ensures rapid dosing. The system detects percentage deviation from the specified volume, which creates the opportunity for fine tuning to achieve greater precision. Precise filling decreases nitrogen consumption.

The Selectable Pressure Level app moves multiple filling nozzles through the dosing process quickly and accurately. Flexible parameterization shortens cycle time. After filling, the nozzles are retracted from the containers with reduced pressure to save energy. A third app, Leakage Diagnostic, ensures the system is operating at peak sustainability through early detection of compressed gas or air leakages.

The Motion Terminal is an intelligent valve that changes functionality based on downloadable apps. Machine developers can create a basic machine type using the Motion Terminal and then select the relevant Motion Apps to equip it with various functions and features per customer requirements. The ability to copy and transfer parameter sets makes planning easier and shortens time to market. Assigning functions via software has the added benefits of preventing tampering and protecting intellectual property.

Keypoint Intelligence Forecasts Cloud Computing Will Affect Direction of Production Workflow Market

News Image

Subscription pricing and cloud computing will be a paradigm shift in revenue makeup starting in 2024.

Keypoint Intelligence announces the availability of the Global and North American Print Production Workflow Market Forecast: 2020-2025. This comprehensive report addresses specific areas that affected print service providers (PSPs) due to the 2020 pandemic as well as software segments that will greatly impact the industry as a whole.

As of the beginning of this year half of PSPs were concerned with maintaining or increasing sales. However, PSPs are generally optimistic, with 63% expecting their revenues to increase in 2021, with 27% anticipating gains over 10%.

Although we predicted that the pandemic would decrease the amount spent on production workflow software, spending was resilient. European PSPs reported only an average 4% decrease in spending, while in the North American market the average budget increased by 20%.

The pandemic acted as an accelerant to digital transformation, optimization, and automation initiatives that largely required software. Research proved this out in NA and WE within the production printing segments. Our findings show that the role software will have as the industry marches toward Smart Print Manufacturing marked by semi-to-fully autonomous printing will be greatly beneficial through 2025.

“Cloud computing should be what these businesses are looking at,” states Carl Doty, Keypoint Intelligence VP and Chief Analyst. “Subscription pricing and cloud computing will be a paradigm shift in revenue makeup starting in 2024.”

The Global and North American Print Production Workflow Market Forecast: 2020-2025 report can be purchased separately or as part of a subscription to other research provided by Keypoint Intelligence’s Production Workflow service. In addition, add-on options to the purchase include the development of sales and marketing tools such as leveraging the data and developing messaging through PowerPoint charts and pivot tables in Excel.

Virginia is facing a critical teacher shortage, and Old Dominion University’s online learning program is working to do something about it

ODU's education building

Education Building at ODU’s main campus

There is a pressing teacher shortage nationally and within the Commonwealth that has worsened through the pandemic

According to the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE), there are more than 1,000 openings for teachers across the Commonwealth. The COVID-19 pandemic has only added to the problem, driving up the need for licensed, qualified teachers in Virginia’s classrooms.

“There is a pressing teacher shortage nationally and within the Commonwealth that has worsened through the pandemic” says Maggie Barber, Associate Dean for Educator Preparation & Assessment for ODU’s Darden College of Education & Professional Studies. “Great teachers are more important than ever as we return to the classroom this Fall. Teachers play a critical role in inspiring and preparing K-12 students for the future. Teacher preparation programs like those at ODU are essential for developing high quality teachers able to promote positive and enriching learning environments for their students.”

The top ten critical needs have been identified by the VDOE as:

1. Special Education

2. Elementary Education PreK-6

3. Middle Education Grades 6-8

4. Mathematics Grades 6-12 (including Algebra 1)

5. Career and Technical Education

6. Science (Secondary)

7. Foreign Language PreK-12

8. English (Secondary)

9. Library Media PreK-12

10. History and Social Science (Secondary)

All of the top ten critical teaching shortage endorsement areas are available through ODU’s Darden College of Education. While not all programs are available fully online, most of the programs offer at least some online courses.

These online ODU programs address four of Virginia’s top needs:

Special Education

Elementary Education PreK-6

Career and Technical Education

Library Media PreK-12

“ODU’s online teacher preparation programs provide rigorous, field-based preparation for aspiring teachers.” says Barber. “Online courses provide a flexibility and convenience to students, particularly those working full-time or transferring in from community colleges. We partner with students to identify student teaching placements in their local communities.”

Special Education

Special Education teachers have a big heart and a desire to help special needs students in creative, important ways.

In ODU’s online special education bachelor’s program, courses are taught by faculty with direct and current school-based special education experience. They can also provide career mentoring.

ODU’s online program has two special education concentrations to prepare for licensure and endorsement: general curriculum or adapted curriculum.

  • General curriculum prepares you to teach children with mild disabilities, grades K-12.
  • Adapted curriculum prepares you to teach children with moderate to severe or multiple disabilities, grades K-12.

The program includes extensive field work and a teacher candidate internship.

Click here for more information about ODU’s online Bachelor of Science concentrating on special education.

Elementary Education PreK-6

Elementary Education has been the second greatest critical shortage area for the state of Virginia since 2010, following behind Special Education. Elementary Education teachers foster a love for learning and spark curiosity and inquiry among their students. They are the ones who nurture young learners and lay the foundation upon which all other learning occurs. They are vitally important in our schools and across our state.

The elementary education program at ODU is particularly appealing to online students, as we offer our coursework in a variety of formats and on multiple days and times. ODU also partners with school divisions across the state to place online students in field experiences near their homes, no matter where they reside.

Students who pursue elementary education love kids! While they also become masters of content, their true passion is building relationships with children to find what makes them get excited about learning, to foster creativity, and encourage critical thinking. They enjoy multiple opportunities through ODU’s program to have hands-on practice in diverse settings to apply these skills.

Click here for more information about ODU’s online bachelor of science degree concentrating in elementary education.

Career and Technical Education

Technology Education is a critical shortage teaching area in Virginia for middle school and high school. Don’t let the program name fool you; technology education is not just learning about computers or other communications devices such as cell phones. Technology Education studies the human-designed environment and is closely tied to science education which studies the natural environment. It’s an emerging field with critical practical applications.

“Schools are expanding makerspaces, robotics, engineering classes, and other technology activities, so technology teachers are in very high demand,” says ODU Professor Philip Reed. “Our program at ODU can now be completed online so students across the Commonwealth can enter this exciting career field.”

Click here for more information about ODU’s online bachelor’s of science degree in career and technical education.

Library Media PreK-12

Older school librarians are retiring. Fortunately, many administrators know that a qualified school librarian can be an effective member of their staff. School librarians work with every learner in the school.

Many teachers who have been in the classroom for a while are attracted to the school library program. For them, the school library position is appealing as a way to stay in the school but in a position that will allow them to engage with students in a more authentic manner. School librarians are also leaders within their schools and school districts, viewed more as coaches and professional resources to their peers rather than evaluators (such as administrators), which is often appealing to those who aspire to hold a leadership role.

ODU’s online MLIS is a perfect fit for individuals looking to became school librarians. We have a path to meet each student’s goal.

For more information about ODU’s Master of Library and Information Studies, as well as other educational master’s degrees, click here.

Besides passion and satisfaction, teaching in Virginia can be a lucrative career prospect. The VDOE says that the average teacher salary was $60,265 across the commonwealth. In some communities with a dire need, school districts are also offering signing bonuses for certain teachers, such as special education and technology education.

Help is also available for interested students. VDOE offers the Virginia Teaching Scholarship Loan Program to provide financial support for students preparing to teach in one of the critical teaching areas.

“Teaching is a rewarding career with the opportunity to give back to your community and invest in the future,” says Barber. “ODU programs help respond to the need of school divisions for teachers committed to the diverse needs of students across Virginia.”
