News Image

By delivering this family of COM-HPC modules in collaboration with ADLINK, we give these industries new choices for power efficient, high performance SystemReady design.

Summary:

  • ADLINK‘s unique 80-core Arm-based COM-HPC server type module sets a new standard ratio for edge performance to power. With up to 80 Arm v8.2 64-bit cores, up to 2.8GHz, and modest power demands at 175W TDP, users can reliably and predictably process compute-intensive workloads
  • ADLINK has built an ultra-silent liquid cooled tower system based on the COM-HPC Ampere Altra module and its carrier, called the “AVA Developer Platform,” with 32-core by default. The COM-HPC Ampere Altra module also powers the “AVA-AP1,” a ruggedized vehicle prototyping platform with 80-core by default, developed in collaboration between ADLINK, Arm, and Ampere
  • Both platforms host the Scalable Open Architecture for Embedded Edge (SOAFEE), a new software initiative and reference implementation launched today by Arm, providing a cloud-native environment for embedded edge development

ADLINK Technology Inc., a global leader in edge computing, introduces the COM-HPC Ampere® Altra®, the world’s first 80-core COM-HPC server type module that eliminates power-performance limitations. The new server type module targets edge platforms that reliably and predictably process the most compute intensive workloads, eliminating bottlenecks and restrictions typically caused by memory caches and system memory limits on edge devices. The COM-HPC Ampere Altra core is an Ampere Altra SoC (system on a chip) using the Arm® Neoverse™ N1 architecture, providing premium performance within a relatively modest thermal envelope, lower TCO than x86 designs, and significantly lower power consumption.

The COM-HPC Ampere Altra delivers an unprecedented performance-power ratio of up to 80 Arm v8.2 64-bit cores running at up to 2.8GHz with only 175 watts. The COM-HPC Ampere Altra provides three PCIe Gen4 x16 lanes with a homogenous architecture and valuable compute power for demanding workloads, such as real-time/near real-time applications including autonomous driving, stationery and mobile robotics, medical imaging and robotic surgery, test and measurement, and video broadcasting. In addition, it is excellently suited as a native arm64 development and compilation system for lower power embedded arm64 designs.

“Ampere Altra delivers the scalable power and performance necessary to drive a variety of use cases in the embedded development community from autonomous vehicles to medical instrumentation and industrial robotics,” said Jeff Wittich, chief product officer of Ampere. “By delivering this family of COM-HPC modules in collaboration with ADLINK, we give these industries new choices for power efficient, high performance design. These can be applied whether in a vehicle or in the many edge devices out there that have had only x86 options to choose from in the past.”

“By teaming up with Ampere and Arm and using their Arm Neoverse N1-based Ampere Altra SoC, our high performance-per-watt COM-HPC Ampere Altra architecture allows our strategic partners and customers to process data intensive workloads at the edge without worrying about big upfront investments, hardware overheating, or ongoing maintenance costs,” says Alex Wang, ADLINK’s product manager of embedded boards and modules.

COM-HPC Ampere Altra supports the open source edk2 as bootloader with UEFI. Existing customers can just download a stock aarch64 (arm64) ISO such as Ubuntu and install it through booting a live ISO directly on the target. The same convenience we have become used to by using x86 / amd64 target systems.

COM-HPC Ampere Altra key features:

  • Arm Neoverse N1-based architecture
  • Scalable, from 32 to 80 Arm v8.2 64-bit cores (60 to 175 watts)
  • 768GB DDR4 with 6 individual memory channels for demanding workloads
  • 64x PCIe Gen4 lanes
  • edk2 bootloader with TianoCore / UEFI
  • Gigabit Ethernet support: 4x 10GbE and 1x GbE
  • SOAFEE-compliant

Hardware reference platforms with the COM-HPC Ampere Altra module at its core

Arm today announced the launch of the Scalable Open Architecture for Embedded Edge (SOAFEE) to accelerate the software-defined future of automotive. SOAFEE’s reference hardware platforms are ADLINK’s 32-core-default COM-HPC Ampere Altra-powered “AVA Developer Platform” which will be used by automakers to develop and test on Arm-based silicon, and the 80-core-default COM-HPC Ampere Altra-powered “AVA-AP1” for in-vehicle prototyping. Automakers are moving their vehicles from hundreds of simultaneous discrete ECUs, collapsing their in-vehicle compute architecture into a smaller number of powerful “domain controllers” with computer per major class of function (such as ADAS, infotainment) at first, to eventually one computer running all functions, with “mixed criticality” on a single powerful Arm SoC.

“ADLINK has found Ampere Altra to be the ideal solution for such a development platform for automakers to develop and test while waiting for their next generation IPs from silicon partners,” said Joe Speed, Field CTO, ADLINK. “The combination of SOAFEE, led by Arm, and ADLINK’s COM-HPC Ampere Altra-powered reference platforms brings cloud technologies and best practices for CI/CD, virtualization, and security to the developer’s desk and vehicles.”

Shipping of samples of the prototype system to key ecosystem partners is already in progress. ADLINK is taking pre-orders now. Find more information on the COM-HPC Ampere Altra module here and AVA Developer Platform’s support pages here.

Eide Bailly Financial Services Selects benjamin for Workflow Automation and Client Experience Technology

As an AI-driven business support system, benjamin’s advanced design enables RIAs to automate much of the client journey from streamlining the prospecting process, simplifying onboarding, coordinating meeting scheduling and prep, as well as ongoing client engagement and relationship management.

benjamin, the only business support system driven by AI and specifically designed for the wealth management industry, announced today that leading RIA firm Eide Bailly Financial Services (EBFS) has selected benjamin to automate many of the firm’s workflows while standardizing processes.

benjamin’s AI-driven workflow automation engine will be deployed by EBFS to automate a number of processes, including the client meeting process from end to end. As part of that workflow automation, benjamin automatically delivers timely communications directly with the client with no human involvement to calendar the next meeting. From there, benjamin kicks off automated workflows to help EBFS’s advisors prepare for the meeting by organizing documents, pulling reports, and integrating notes from past meetings into one elegant pre-meeting package. Post meeting, benjamin updates EBFS’s CRM with the notes from the meeting and then automatically communicates with the client to schedule the next follow up meeting.

“Advisors and their staff spend an extraordinary amount of time and resources manually scheduling and preparing for client meetings,” said Paul Polese, CRO of benjamin. “Firms of EBFS’s size literally conduct hundreds and hundreds of client meetings every year, a key workflow and process that can and should be automated. Now, with benjamin, EBFS will be able to scale their business by eliminating much of the manual back and forth of scheduling meetings, as well as pulling together the key elements needed to prepare for those meetings.”

As an AI-driven business support system, benjamin’s advanced design enables RIAs to automate much of the client journey from streamlining the prospecting process, simplifying onboarding, coordinating meeting scheduling and preparation, as well as ongoing client engagement and relationship management. The combination of these key features provides RIA firms with quantifiable and significant scalable benefits such as increased capacity, operational efficiencies, increased productivity and client service enhancements.

“As our business has grown, we had created a bunch of inconsistent and time-consuming processes that were slowing us down and limiting our capacity as we are a full-service firm,” said Cassity Wingenbach Director of Practice Management for EBFS. “We are very excited now that benjamin to be able to gain consistency in our client experience by standardizing and automating our processes which will elevate our advisors and staff to being able to be more client focused. The powerful efficiencies we are gaining from benjamin will be the way we will scale our business going forward.”

First up on EBFS’s workflow automation projects with benjamin will be to streamline account oversight through alerts on cash and activity levels. These efficiencies and business intelligence from benjamin will enable EBFS’s advisors and client service teams to be more proactive in identifying opportunities to improve the client’s financial situation, further enhancing the client experience they are providing.

Recently benjamin was named the winner in wealthmanagement.com’s prestigious Industry Awards Program in a brand-new advisor technology category of Business Support Systems. A judging panel of industry experts and luminaries recognized benjamin for its innovations in integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the advisor tech stack, as well as launching an entirely new category of financial advisor technology to automate many of the manual workflows that limit advisor capacity and firm growth.

New Flash Drive Counters USB Cyber Threats

Lock License USB Flash Drive by Nexcopy Inc.

Nexcopy Lock License Flash Drive Counters USB Cyber Threats

The Lock License approach gives the user complete control on when the USB becomes writable. This means a user can perform all the scans and testing required before allowing the device to become writable.

Nexcopy Inc., a leading manufacturer of advanced flash memory solutions, introduces Lock License USB flash drives which serve as a valuable tool to combat against USB cyber threats.

USB flash drives can be a significant security threat to both consumers and organizations and pose a serious problem for those trying to protect their computers and networks.

USB flash drives are read / write devices by default and the write capability is a fundamental way malware can spread from computer system to computer system. The Nexcopy Lock License technology works fundamentally different than all other USB flash drives. The default state of a Lock License drive is write protected, or said another way read-only.

It is important to understand how a virus interacts with a USB device to fully appreciate the above sentence.

A virus designed to spread via USB has two main goals:

1) Spread any way possible via USB connectivity

2) Remain undetected as long as possible.

Because a virus is trying to stay undetected the malware will ping any USB device connected upon power up. Once the virus identifies if the USB device is unusable, the virus will go back into hibernation. For example, if a USB mouse is connected the virus quickly determines this is a HID device (Human Input Device) and does not have memory for the virus to spread it’s code. However, a virus will ping a USB flash drive and quickly determine it is read/write and will insert it’s code onto the USB flash memory.

Greg Morris, President of Nexcopy comments, “With a Lock License USB flash drive, the device is always write protected. This default state of the flash drive means a virus will identify the USB as read only, leave it alone, and got back into hibernation. Malware does not re-examine devices because the more active a virus is, the more likely the virus will be detected.”

The Lock License approach gives the user complete control on when the USB becomes writable. This means a user can perform all the scans and testing required before allowing the device to become writable.

The old ways of how a virus writes itself onto a USB flash drive is gone, because the Lock License USB is read only.

Content on a Lock License drive can be read from any computer or system at any time. However, a Lock License drive will become writable when an encrypted password is entered to remove the write protection.

Morris continues, “The default state of a Lock License drive returns when power is cut from the device, said another way, when the USB is removed from the host computer. There is no requirement to re-lock the drive, the process is automatic. This fundamental design change means a user will never forget to set the write protection of a Lock License USB drive.

The Nexcopy Lock License USB flash drive has the following features:

#Default state of drive is read-only, a.k.a write protected

#User defines when device becomes writable

#Writenable function is password protected

#Assign unique password to every device

#Write protect state returns automatically when device is disconnected

#Free command line utility for custom applications

#This is a hardware solution so cannot be hacked or manipulated

#Many body styles and colors available

#Available in USB 2.0 and 3.0 technology and ranging from 2GB through 128GB capacities

Stan McCrosky, head of Sales, comments, “This simple configuration change in our manufacturing process creates a game changing way users and corporations can fight back against USB cyber threats. Without the USB device being writable, it is impossible for a virus to spread to the device.”

The Oxford swivel style flash drive is the in-stock media Nexcopy carries for same day printing and shipping. Nexcopy inventories USB 2.0 media of 2GB and 4GB capacity and in stock USB 3.0 media of 8GB, 16GB, 32Gb, 64GB and 128GB capacities. The in-stock Oxford media is a black body with white swivel clip with full color printing via the Nexcopy Logo-EZ USB flash drive printer.

Automated Vehicle Safety Consortium Publishes Best Practice for Evaluating Autonomous Vehicle Safety Performance

SAE International logo

This is another important step in engendering public trust and confidence in the testing and deployment of automated vehicles. – Amy Chu, Director of AVSC

The Automated Vehicle Safety Consortium™ (AVSC) today announced the availability of a new best practice titled, Evaluation of Behavioral Competencies for Automated Driving System Dedicated Vehicles (ADS-DVs). The new guidelines integrate the AVSC’s Metrics and Methods for Assessing Safety Performance of Automated Driving Systems (ADS) and best practice for Operational Design Domain (ODD) to provide a framework for manufacturers to evaluate the behavioral competency of automated vehicles.

“As automated driving system testing advances, it is important that manufacturers communicate information about the safety of their vehicles in a consistent way, while still using testing protocols specific to their systems and ODDs,” said Amy Chu, director of the AVSC. “With the framework in our new best practice, manufacturers can evaluate the safety performance of their vehicles based on an elemental set of behavioral competencies such as maintaining proper lane position or responding appropriately in work zones. Linking behavioral competencies to a key set of scenarios for a given ODD provides relevant evidence for ADS safety performance and increases confidence in the safety performance of an AV.”

The new best practice provides an approach to specify testable AV behavior by:

  •     Clarifying a lexicon surrounding automated vehicle behaviors,
  •     Enumerating an elemental set of behaviors, and
  •     Demonstrating how to derive metrics to evaluate AV behavioral competence.

Real-world driving involves complex interactions among numerous systems. In order to evaluate as many ADS subtasks within the DDT as possible, developers align them to a generalized set of behaviors. Developers then use system engineering techniques to map these behaviors to an elemental set of behavioral competencies. In other words, competence is considered as a collection of behaviors that cover a context-relevant and predictable part of the broader driving task. Proficiency across a set of behavioral competencies provides directional indication of the ADS-DV safety performance. For example, in the context of driving on a highway while maintaining a lane and approaching another vehicle, the ADS-DV would be expected to keep a safe distance, maintain the speed limit, and monitor the behavior of the vehicle in front of it while preparing to react if the scenario changes.

Human driver tests evaluate candidates against a small number of tasks which represent driving across a variety of different, related scenarios. Although human driving tests reflect a person’s ability to execute key driving tasks and knowledge of driving law, they do not reflect a human’s driving skill in every situation.

“Providing a framework for manufacturers to link behavioral competencies to key scenarios provides evidence for ADS safety performance that manufacturers can use to build their case for safety. This is another important step in engendering public trust and confidence in the testing and deployment of automated vehicles,” added Chu.

Nanotech Energy Honored as CES 2022 Innovation Award Winner in Sustainability, Eco-Design & Smart Energy Category

Nanotech Energy, the world’s leading manufacturer of graphene and the only producer of non-flammable, graphene-based batteries on the market

Building safer batteries is critical for the future of energy storage. Our proprietary, non-flammable lithium-ion batteries are infinitely safer and higher performing than the industry status quo, and to be recognized for these accomplishments at CES 2022, is a significant honor.

Nanotech Energy, the leading producer of high-performance, graphene-based energy storage, today announced that its non-flammable Graphene-Organolyte™ batteries have been named a CES® 2022 Innovation Award Winner in the Sustainability, Eco-Design & Smart Energy category. Owned and produced by the Consumer Technology Association (CTA)®, the CES Innovation Awards program is an annual competition honoring outstanding design and engineering in 27 consumer technology product categories. Awards are given out in advance of CES 2022, the world’s most influential consumer technology event, which takes place January 5-8, 2021 in Las Vegas. An elite panel of industry expert judges, including members of the media, designers, engineers and more, reviewed a record 1800+ submissions based on innovation, engineering and functionality, aesthetic and design. A full list of the CES 2022 Innovation Award winners, including product descriptions and photos, can be found at CES.tech/innovation.

Additionally, Nanotech Energy is the only producer of non-flammable, graphene-based batteries on the market — batteries that enable a future and realize graphene’s potential to create real-world benefits, from safer, more cost-efficient, environmentally-friendly personal electronic devices to creating a more efficient way to harness renewable energy. Nanotech Energy’s proprietary electrolyte, Graphene-Organolyte, is not only stable and non-flammable — it’s also made from inexpensive materials and is easy to manufacture. During a press conference held in Reno, Nevada earlier in November, the company announced a new state-of-the-art production facility to increase manufacturing capacity for the U.S. and other markets, in support of Nanotech Energy’s exponential international expansion.

“Imagine a world where your smartphone charges in just seconds. And then imagine that instead of traditional lithium-ion batteries that lose their charge very quickly, you’re able to use long-lasting energy storage systems that can last three times longer on a single charge and are also extremely safe. That’s just a snapshot of a world charged by Nanotech Energy’s batteries,” said Jack Kavanaugh, Chairman, CEO and co-founder of Nanotech Energy. “Building safer batteries is critical for the future of energy storage. Our proprietary, non-flammable lithium-ion batteries are infinitely safer and higher performing than the industry status quo, and to be recognized for these accomplishments at CES 2022, the world’s largest product technology showcase, is a significant honor.”

Key Product Facts:

1.    Higher performance: Nanotech Energy’s proprietary non-flammable graphene-based battery technology demonstrated more than 1400 cycles (nearly 10 years) of use for 80% cut-off, compared to a traditional lithium-ion battery’s 300-500 cycles (about two to three years). Unlike traditional lithium-ion batteries, Nanotech Energy’s batteries also maintain performance even during extreme weather (-40°C to +60°C / -40°F to +140°F), and decrease charge times significantly. Additionally, Nanotech Energy batteries can enable electric cars to achieve a range of more than 400 miles and operate in extreme weather conditions (heat or cold).

2.    Safer: In tests, traditional lithium-ion batteries catch fire immediately when penetrated, reaching extreme temperatures of nearly 750⁰C (1382⁰F). Nanotech Energy batteries vent some fumes with a maximum observed temperature of 100⁰C, but are not flammable and do not ignite. They also hold their charge at temperatures as high as 356°F (180°C), while commercial batteries discharge their energy at nearly 230°F (110⁰C). Thermal stability is critical to preventing thermal runaway, which causes battery fires, providing a promising solution to the long-standing safety problems of lithium-ion batteries.

3.    Sustainable: Traditional lithium-ion batteries are not sustainable. They have their own sustainability issues due to the lack of effective methods for recycling the valuable metals (such as nickel, cobalt, manganese and lithium) that constitute the battery at the end of its life. Graphene is an abundant resource that can be produced more ethically and sustainably. Graphene also enables the use of less metals in battery manufacture, making the recycling of lithium-ion batteries more sustainable. Traditional lithium-ion batteries last 300-500 cycles (about two to three years); Nanotech Energy’s proprietary non-flammable graphene-based battery technology demonstrated more than 1400 cycles (nearly 10 years), with options for more sustainable models that are easily recycled. Additionally, by extending the lifetime of the battery from two to three years to more than ten years, Nanotech Energy’s batteries promise to produce more sustainable energy storage systems due to the use of fewer batteries.

Nanotech Energy will showcase its award-winning products in the Innovation Awards Showcase at CES 2022 in Las Vegas and will participate as an exhibitor in Eureka Park at the Venetian Expo, Booth #633339. Contact sales@nanotechenergy.com to schedule a meeting. A media kit is available here.
