Haivision Announces Extremely Small Footprint Low Latency HD HEVC/H.264 MX1 Video Encoder Board for Embedded ISR Sensors, Datalinks, and Mission Systems

News Image

Weighing a mere 45g and consuming less than 8 watts, the MX1 board is ideal for integration within lightweight portable platforms, vehicles, drones, cameras/sensors, radios/datalinks, and wearable technology.

Haivision, a leader in video streaming solutions, today announced the Makito MX1 Rugged OEM video encoder board, an extremely small form factor, high performance, embeddable HD encoder for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), and defense applications. The MX1 OEM board is a single board design measuring just 58mm by 66mm and brings ultra low latency H.265/HEVC and H.264/AVC video capabilities to sensors, datalinks, and mission systems for ISR and full motion video (FMV) applications.

The MX1 includes the latest H.265/HEVC video encoding algorithms to deliver the highest quality over constrained IP networks, line-of-sight (LOS) radios and satellite links. The MX1 also features Network Adaptive Encoding which adjusts the video bitrate dynamically to provide the best video quality possible even during network congestion events or when available network bandwidth is variable or unpredictable. The MX1 has two flexible encoding cores and can deliver video with Key-Length-Value (KLV) metadata to remote processing, exploitation, and dissemination (PED) systems over bandwidth-constrained networks using H.265/HEVC and to higher bandwidth local tactical networks requiring H.264/AVC-based compatibility at the same time.

Weighing a mere 45g and consuming less than 8 watts, the MX1 board is ideal for integration within lightweight portable platforms, vehicles, drones, cameras/sensors, radios/datalinks, and wearable technology.

The MX1 builds on Haivision’s expertise in delivering MISB/STANAG compliant video encoders. The MX1 can insert, aggregate and filter synchronous or asynchronous KLV metadata streams from multiple sources, assuring that available network bandwidth is used optimally.

“To satisfy the growing need for more situational video, systems are getting smaller and they need to be heavily integrated,” said John Leipper, Director of Product Strategy, Defense, at Haivision. “The MX1 board provides the full capabilities of our commercial off the shelf appliance at a fraction of its size and weight.”

Drumming Goes High Tech With Backbeater Drum Tempo Monitor

Many drummers use Backbeater on stage during live performances

Makers4Good announces that the Backbeater app, the popular tool for measuring a drummer’s tempo, has a thorough update which is now available. With a new “speedometer” display, drummers can see in real time whether they are playing faster or slower than desired.

In addition to the tempo speed display, the new Backbeater app features drag and drop organizing of saved songs. This enables users to store their songs in an order that matches the band’s set list.

Joe Cain, President of Makers4Good, states, “we asked hundreds of drummers for their input on this app upgrade and their desires were clear – give them an easy to see screen and more capabilities with regard to set lists. Since many drummers use Backbeater on stage during live performances, these two features are critical.”

The smartphone app displays information from the Backbeater pickup – a small device that clamps to a drum lug. The app works with both Apple iOS and Android, and is available for free in the Apple App store and through Google Play. The Backbeater device is available at http://www.Backbeater.com or on Amazon.com.

Backbeater was created to help quiet the debate between drummers and other band members on tempo speed. With an accurate read out of the actual speed at which a drummer is playing, the drummer can lead the band with more precision. It uses an averaging window of beats that can be adjusted by the user to determine the tempo read out.

Makers4Good, manufacturers of Backbeater, donate all profits from the sales of the drum tempo monitor to Percussive Arts Society, an international organization for drummers and percussionists.

To download the new app, visit the Apple App Store or Google Play.

Kintone and TechSoup’s Caravan Studios Launch 2019 Social Impact Challenge

https://www.prweb.com/

“Childhood hunger in the U.S. is shameful and needs to be better known and addressed. We are trying to bring focus and solutions to the cause with our 2019 Social Impact Challenge and hope many others will come along and get involved,” said CEO Dave Landa.

Two San Francisco-based organizations, Kintone, the teamwork platform with a visual application builder that empowers organizations to manage their data and workflows for better collaboration, and Caravan Studios, a division of TechSoup, today announced the 2019 Social Impact Challenge. Now in its second year, the purpose of the Social Impact Challenge is to advocate for using technology and teamwork to solve the issues and challenges facing local communities. This annual initiative brings together social change agents who design, build and showcase technologies that directly increase the public good at a community level.

This year, the Social Impact Challenge will focus on the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal 2 to end hunger by 2030, addressing the youth hunger crisis in the U.S. specifically. Together with Caravan Studios, Kintone will select technology-driven solutions developed by subject matter experts and voted on by the public that will best address the challenge and work toward eradicating childhood hunger.

Attendees of Kintone Connect, a series of free, half-day teamwork, technology and impact conferences held in four cities across the U.S., will learn about and vote on the innovative solution concepts. In collaboration with the winner, Kintone will then build the winning solution, present it at the San Francisco event, and finally give it back to the community to help address the youth hunger issue head-on.

According to No Kid Hungry, more than 12 million children in the United States live in “food insecure” homes and one in six children in the United States lives with hunger.

“It’s shocking that 28% of San Francisco’s youth are at chronic risk of hunger. Taking responsibility and respecting individuality are two core elements of our mission at Kintone, as is helping to create a society brimming with teamwork. Thanks to the teamwork with TechSoup’s Caravan Studios and concerned citizens, we’re humbled and inspired to work together toward addressing this shocking manifestation of societal inequality,” said Dave Landa, CEO, Kintone. “In order to meet the goal of equality, we need to first address basic human needs. Children who struggle with hunger and malnutrition often do not reach their peak potential physically or mentally, and therefore fall into a negative cycle of under-development caused by nutrition deficiency. We need to end that cycle.”

The public can vote for their favorite solution online now by clicking here or in person at one of the following Kintone Connect events:

  • Boston – September 19
  • Chicago – October 9
  • San Francisco – December 12

Tickets for Kintone Connect are available now; space for each event is limited. For more information on the Kintone Connect and to obtain tickets, please visit: http://www.kintoneconnect.com. To find out more about the 2019 Social Impact Challenge and how to get involved, please go to impact.kintone.com.

“Childhood hunger in the U.S. is shameful and needs to be better known and addressed. We are trying to bring focus and solutions to the cause with our 2019 Social Impact Challenge and hope many others will come along and get involved,” Landa added.

Fieldbit Adds Groundbreaking Augmented Reality Data Visualization Feature to Platform, Further Empowering Enterprise Field Service Technicians

Fieldbit, a leader in real-time augmented reality knowledge and collaboration solutions for field service workforces, today announced the addition of real-time data visualization (spatial computing) to its multi-source knowledge platform. Spatial computing empowers field service technicians and operators to more easily navigate in a crowded, multi-asset environment and to maintain, operate, and resolve issues more quickly and effectively.

Technicians and operators servicing oil rigs, refineries, and other process plants, can now easily locate specific devices or components via color-coded status alerts, operational instructions, data and IoT information on their mobile devices. Using smart glasses, tablets, or smartphones, technicians, operators, and even off-site managers can access real-time data and IoT information about machines – even when they are out of view and located behind or inside other equipment.

Spatial computing adds a new layer to the Fieldbit enterprise augmented reality platform and strengthens Fieldbit’s ability to provide industrial asset manufacturers and asset owners with additional tools to overcome the challenges facing field service technicians as they service expensive, complex equipment. “Fieldbit’s new AR Visualization feature makes it much easier for field technicians to see exactly where the problem is – with visual mapping that labels and pinpoints the exact issue,” says Evyatar Meiron, Fieldbit CEO. “Fieldbit’s role is to continue to create features and solutions that simplify the complexity that technicians face in the field each day so that they can easier resolve issues in real-time.”

Fieldbit’s innovative AR technologies enable the frontline workforce in remote locations to collaborate with subject matter experts and management in real-time via smart eyeglasses, mobile devices, and other knowledge sources. Interactive collaboration includes a shared “see-what-I see” field of view, step-by-step automated guidance through logical procedures for preventive maintenance, and APIs for augmenting industrial IoT real-time data or real-time data from legacy automation systems.
