Historic Factory Renovation into 4.5 Acre Business Campus Opening Next Spring

The Colony will be located in the heart of Lambert’s Point and tie together the City of Norfolk’s technology zone with Old Dominion University.

IPConfigure, a video surveillance software development company headquartered in Norfolk, Virginia, announces a new 4.5 acre campus scheduled to open in Spring 2020. The campus, named the Colony, will be located in the heart of Lambert’s Point and, as the future site of IPConfigure’s headquarters, will tie together the City of Norfolk’s technology zone with Old Dominion University.

The City of Norfolk has geographically been an important part of the company’s growth and continued success. With the help of the City of Norfolk’s Economic Development Department and the Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance, IPConfigure selected the Innovation Research Center at Old Dominion University as its headquarters starting in 2009.

In 2018, with the rapid growth of the company, IPConfigure embarked upon a year-long journey searching for a facility in Norfolk that could host the company’s expanding tech business while supporting the increasing need for manufacturing and freight handling amenities.

“The nature of IPConfigure’s business presented some unique challenges when searching for an office. Our needs are surprisingly contradictory since we host software engineers, sales staff and light manufacturing teams at our headquarters. We were excited to find the Bowdens Ferry Road property which will not only allow us to customize the space to fit our needs, but represents a historic contribution,” said Christopher S. Uiterwyk, president and CEO of IPConfigure.

Originally home to the Linde Gas Factory and built in 1939, the buildings on the property supported the manufacturing of acetylene gas, which was in high demand and supported the regions maritime role during War World II. Before purchase by Uiterwyk, it was home to Dublin Metals. Now a vacant shell, the space beacons for a new purpose.

Uiterwyk enlisted a team of regional experts to assist in revitalizing the historic buildings and bringing life back to the property. The team will restore the historic brick facade, iconic Linde Gas factory chimney, and many of the original historic details, such as the 1939 windows and doors.

“Much credit goes to the owners of IPConfigure, who have consistently pursued a sensitive renovation and restoration of this important piece of Norfolk’s history. The project architect, WPA, has found a way to preserve the distinct character of this building while accommodating a modern and technologically advanced company. This project exemplifies the best of preservation – protecting the cultural and built heritage of Norfolk, while accommodating the dynamic vision of the new owner. CPG is proud to be a part of such an impressive effort,” said Paige Pollard, from the Commonwealth Preservation Group.

With an overall investment of over $7M, the development of the Colony campus will create 30,000 square feet of building space. 10,000 square feet of which will be leasable space for four additional tenants. Uiterwyk hopes to rent that space to a retailer, restaurant, fitness center or other lifestyle brands that will contribute to the Colony’s campus theme.

Texas-based Raven™ Scanner makes waves in the document scanner category after May 2019 debut and becomes the highest rated document scanner

We set out to disrupt the document scanner category with user-centered design, a built-in interface that eliminates the need for a computer, direct scanning to the cloud, and unmatched customer service and support.

Texas-based Raven™ Scanner makes waves in the document scanner category after May 2019 debut.

Scanners have always been an IT nightmare, one that usually involves multinational technology powerhouse brands. Interface with peripherals has always been difficult, as models and standards are always changing, but most businesses keep legacy equipment for as long as possible to minimize expense and hassle.

Houston, Texas-based Raven™ Scanners addressed this margin-killing connectivity hassle when it introduced its first commercial Raven Scanner models at Collision Conference in Toronto in May of 2019. Since launching, Raven has become the highest rated document scanner on Amazon and has attracted the attention of communities such as Paperless Movement, MILO (Macs In Law Offices) and Private Charter Schools.

All Raven Scanner models completely remove computers from the scanning equation, and come pre-connected to a highly-functional, single purpose, internet-enabled 7-8 inch touchscreen tablet that is built right into the scanners.

The scanner connects directly to Wi-Fi networks or hardwired Ethernet connections and, from there, can scan documents directly to internet-enabled cloud destinations like Raven Cloud™, Google Drive, Dropbox, Box, Evernote, SharePoint and OneDrive. Raven Scanners can also scan directly to more traditional destinations destinations like Fax (no phone line or fee to use), Email (no setup required) or a USB drive connected to the scanner.

Raven™ provides all users access to its own secure cloud storage, Raven Cloud™, which provides unlimited storage, sharing and PDF editing at no cost.

Stefan Diasti, CEO and Co-Founder of Raven™ Scanners says “We built Raven™ to provide seamless solutions that enable small businesses and chief household officers to go paperless,” Diasti says. “We set out to disrupt the document scanner category with user-centered design, a built-in interface that eliminates the need for a computer, direct scanning to the cloud, and unmatched customer service and support.”

Raven™ Scanners include free automatic software updates, delivered directly over the internet, which means Raven™ Scanners get the benefit of new features multiple times each month, without needing to upgrade to the latest model. No software is required to set up or use Raven™ Scanner or Raven Cloud™, so it’s both platform and operating system agnostic.

Raven™ Scanners is a US-based business, located in Houston, Texas. This allows them to be closer to their customers, and to drive product innovation based on customer feedback. “When was the last time you called customer service to an electronics brand, got an answer within minutes from a representative in the U.S, and saw your request implemented in the next software update?” Diasti asks.

Raven™ offers three scanner models: Raven Original Document Scanner, Raven Plus Document Scanner and Raven Pro Document Scanner. The models include differences in scan speed, automatic document feeder capacity and touchscreen size. Raven Scanners are currently available for sale on Raven.com, Amazon.com and Walmart.com.

3dcart and Sandbox Commerce Announce Custom Shopping App Partnership

3dcart Logo

“With more and more customers conducting their shopping on their smartphones, having a high-performing mobile store is a priority for all online businesses. Our partnership with Sandbox Commerce makes that more feasible for our clients.” —Gonzalo Gil, 3dcart CEO

3dcart, a leading eCommerce platform, announced today that their customers can now convert their stores into shopping applications through the platform’s partnership with Sandbox Commerce, an Austin, Texas-based software company. New and current clients will be able to integrate their online stores with Sandbox Commerce’s app builder, through which they can create apps that connect with their stores.

This connection extends to total synchronicity with the inventories of 3dcart stores. A store’s shopping app will accurately reflect product selection and availability. Store data is imported to allow easy drag-and-drop placement of marquees, collections, and featured items. This connection is possible because store owners must log into their 3dcart account with Sandbox Commerce before they can create an app.

“We couldn’t be more grateful to work with Sandbox Commerce,” said Gonzalo Gil, CEO of 3dcart. “With more and more customers conducting their shopping on their smartphones, having a high-performing mobile store is a priority for all online businesses. Our partnership with this company makes that more feasible for our clients.”

Another part of Sandbox Commerce’s services is their “Social” tier, which allows store owners to showcase images of their products through a curated Instagram feed. 3dcart clients can customize windows that can fit these Instagram posts into any app created through Sandbox Commerce, as well as their website and newsletter.

“This is a great opportunity to partner with a leader in the eCommerce space, and provide their customers a powerful platform to create an omni-channel shopping experience,” said Sterling Smith, Sandbox Commerce founder and CEO.
