Tripp Lite Adds OmniVS® UPS Systems with LCD Touchscreens

News Image

Along with ease of monitoring, the compact form factor of the new units makes them ideal for applications such as home theater, desktop PCs, gaming PCs, wireless networks, security systems, small-business phone systems and kiosks

Tripp Lite, a global manufacturer of power protection and connectivity solutions, has introduced five new UPS systems in its OmniVS series with LCD touchscreens to enable easy local monitoring of UPS status and power conditions.

Along with ease of monitoring, the compact form factor of the new units makes them ideal for applications such as home theater, desktop PCs, gaming PCs, wireless networks, security systems, small-business phone systems and kiosks. They are available with output capacities ranging from 800VA/475W to 1440VA/940W. Select models support expandable runtime with the addition of an optional external battery pack.

“Two unique features make these new UPS systems especially appealing for in-home applications, such as home theater or in a home office,” said Rusty Scioscia, Tripp Lite’s Single-Phase UPS Product Manager. “First, the lighting for the LCD panel turns off when not in use, eliminating a potential distraction for the user. Second, the nuisance-free alarm remains silent in normal conditions, sounding only when imperative.”

The new OmniVS systems also include automatic voltage regulation (AVR) to protect equipment and data from brownouts and overvoltages without using battery power, keeping the battery fully charged for outages and extending battery lifespan. A USB port enables communication with a connected computer for remote monitoring and graceful shutdown in the event of a power failure. Select models also have a DB9 port for connection to devices, such as point-of-sale equipment and casino gaming machines.

Key Features of Tripp Lite’s New OmniVS UPS Systems

  • Compact footprint suitable for use with home theater installations, desktop and gaming PCs, wireless networks, security systems, small-business phone systems and point-of-sale kiosks
  • AVR to protect against fluctuating voltages
  • LCD touchscreen for local monitoring of UPS and power conditions; the touchscreen’s light turns off when not in use
  • USB communication port for remote monitoring and shutdowns; select models also have a DB9 serial port
  • Home-friendly alarm remains silent in backup mode, sounding only to report low battery, replace battery, overload and fault conditions
  • Battery-independent restart for automatic UPS power-up without user interaction after lengthy power outages

Pediatric cancer patient with Mikey's Way gift of a brand new laptop computer

Pediatric cancer patient with Mikey’s Way gift of a brand new laptop computer

“Electronic devices can help children and teens reconnect to ‘their world’ and introduce a measure of normalcy.”- Dr. Abraham Bartell

Today, on the eve of the 15th anniversary of its founding, Mikey’s Way Foundation is reaffirming its commitment to help kids cope with cancer using today’s technology. The challenges pediatric cancer patients face often lead to stress, depression and anxiety. Research in the field of Psychoneuroimmunology (mind/body connection) shows that stress and depression affect the body’s immune response to cancer and infections.

Mikey’s Way Foundation gives technology tools such as laptop computers, tablets, and other Wi-Fi ready electronics designed to help pediatric patients cope with the physical and emotional strain of long-term treatment. The gifts provide diversion, mental support and connection to friends, family and school during prolonged periods of isolation.

“The mind/body connection between emotional wellness and physical well-being is important for all cancer patients but is more pronounced in young people,” says Dr. Abraham Bartell, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. “The pediatric population has the added complexity that results from the insult to their ‘normal development’ during their cancer experience. Electronic devices can help children and teens reconnect to ‘their world’ and introduce a measure of normalcy and a corrective developmental experience.”

“Having gifted more than 8,000 electronics since our founding, it is apparent now more than ever, that Wi-Fi ready devices such as laptop computers, tablets and gaming systems have become vital tools for children in treatment for cancer and other life-threatening illnesses,” says Les Friedman, CEO of Mikey’s Way Foundation. “As an organization, Mikey’s Way is reaffirming our commitment to helping kids cope just as Mikey envisioned nearly 15 years ago, keeping kids connected with friends and family during their treatment.”

Mikey’s Way Foundation was founded by Michael “Mikey” Friedman, who was diagnosed at 15 with a rare form of cancer. The Foundation gives laptop computers, tablets, and other Wi-Fi ready electronics to children affected by the emotional and physical hardships of long-term debilitating treatment. They distribute these electronic gifts via their Mikey’s Way Day and Mikey’s Wish List programs to children all over the country. The gifts provide diversion and connection with family and friends, helping kids to cope with cancer…Mikey’s Way.

TSI Healthcare Partners with OTTO Health to Bring Telehealth to Patients and Providers

TSI Healthcare

TSI Healthcare

TSI Healthcare continuously seeks out new and innovative ways to help clinicians provide quality patient care without sacrificing productivity. We chose to partner with OTTO Health because of their outstanding commitment to provider success.

TSI Healthcare, a national leader in the sales and support of NextGen Practice Management (PM) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) solutions, has partnered with OTTO Health to deliver the next level of care to patients and providers nationwide via virtual visits. As healthcare technology continues to evolve, this partnership will propel TSI Healthcare’s providers into the next era of healthcare consumerism and increased reimbursements.

This emerging technology is the much-needed answer to today’s patient demand for accessible and convenient healthcare. In an era of long wait times, geographically dispersed patient populations, and chronic disease management, Telehealth provides practices with meaningful patient encounters via virtual visits. A 2017 survey by the Advisory Board reported that 77% of patients would consider seeing a provider virtually.

Telehealth’s growing parity laws are also making reimbursements more attainable. In fact, more than 30 states have Telehealth parity laws already in place that will reimburse certain Telehealth visits at the same rate as an in-office visit. Additionally, practice overhead caused by cancellations and no-shows are decreased as qualifying appointments such as follow-ups, test result reviews, medication reviews, and patient education can easily be scheduled as a virtual visit.

“OTTO Health is proud to partner with an organization as committed to customer service as TSI Healthcare,” said Sarah Green, CEO at OTTO Health. “This partnership will allow our mutual clients to bring the benefits of Telehealth to their practices, as well as the patients and communities they serve.”

ETA Certification Advances Aerospace Fiber Optics Careers

https://www.prweb.com/

ETA International

ETA developed the FEEC certification because there was a definite need for consistent training and accredited certification for fiber optics cleaning and inspection process standards in the commercial aerospace industry.

Qualified to lead the aerospace workforce, ETA® International-certified Fiber Optics Evaluation and Endface Cleaning (FEEC) professionals have validated knowledge and skills required for working with fiber optics in the aerospace industry. The FEEC certification defines general practices for testing the physical layer of a fiber optic cable system and outlines proven practices for engineers and technicians engaged in testing and supporting fiber optic cable systems in aircraft.

Ideal for technicians working towards careers in aerospace fiber optics, the FEEC is widely accepted by the aerospace industry and also used in other high-reliability sectors. The FEEC provides guidelines for continuous improvement to help manufacturers and suppliers remain compliant with industry standards and deliver reliable high-speed data transmission in durable and lightweight construction that customers demand. Technicians must have certified knowledge and skills necessary to install and maintain fiber optics that can withstand the harsh and challenging environments that fiber optics encounter throughout an aircraft’s service life.

“ETA developed the FEEC certification because there was a definite need for consistent training and accredited certification for fiber optics cleaning and inspection process standards in the commercial aerospace industry to resolve disputes between OEMs (original equipment manufacturers that make devices from component parts bought from other organizations) and customers through reduction of rejected vendor parts,” said Bill Woodward, FOD, Chairman of SAE International’s Avionics Systems Division (ASD), where he coordinates the committees responsible for the standardization activities of the aerospace industry in the areas of Avionics Systems, Systems Integration, Embedded Computing, Fiber Optics, and Unmanned Systems.

According to a 2018 report by ResearchAndMarkets.com, the fiber optic cables market for military and aerospace is projected to grow from USD 1.82 billion in 2018 to USD 2.00 billion by 2023. Growth in the fiber optic cables market for military and aerospace can be attributed to the increasing commercial adoption of fiber optics and growth in platforms, such as unmanned systems, space launch vehicles, and satellites.

The fiber optic cables market for military and aerospace has been segmented on the basis of end use (military, commercial, space), application (avionics, cabin interiors, flight management systems, In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) systems, communication systems, radar systems, electronic warfare, others), and fiber type (single-mode and multi-mode). A variety of factors, such as temperature, vibration, outgassing, and debris, can cause fiber communication channels to fail and thus inhibit the flow of information. In order to keep the bare fiber functioning properly, it must be built to withstand the stresses caused by the environment where it is used. As a result, harsh-environment fiber optic components are critical in applications and systems where bare fiber would otherwise be prone to failure.

Global aerospace standards are essential for aircraft certification airworthiness and interoperability. ETA’s FEEC is based mainly on the Aeronautical Radio, Incorporated (ARINC) Report 805-5, with aspects of 803-3, 806-7.2.1, and 807-3 of the SAE International-recognized standards (https://www.aviation-ia.com). ARINC Standards and collaborative solutions improve cost effectiveness, increase productivity, and reduce life-cycle costs for airlines and their partners in the avionics, cabin system, and flight simulation and training segments of the aviation industry. With over 8,500 active aerospace standards in its database, SAE International documents commonize practices, processes, and products throughout the aerospace industry and are paramount to the advancement of technology.

With increased data transfer rates and a need for a more lightweight design, aerospace OEMs require that the internal communication systems of many aircraft and spacecraft be upgraded for optical data transfer using fiber installed by certified professionals who have gone through approved training programs. ETA-certified FEEC professionals are prepared to meet the aerospace industry’s demand for installation and maintenance of harsh environment aerospace fiber optics.

About ETA – Since 1978, ETA has administered over 210,000 certification examinations. Widely recognized and frequently used in worker job selection, hiring processes, pay increases, and advancements, ETA certifications are often required as companies bid on contracts. ETA’s certifications are personal and travel with the individual, regardless of employment or status change and measure competencies of persons, not products or vendors. All ETA certifications are accredited through the International Certification Accreditation Council (ICAC) and align with the ISO-17024 standard.

DocASAP Launches New Point of Care and Access Center Capabilities to Expand its Patient Access and Engagement Platform

News Image

“As patient access and care coordination become priorities among health systems and health plans, organizations are looking to innovate around making access to care easier while engaging patients and members throughout their healthcare journey,” said Puneet Maheshwari, co-founder and CEO of DocASAP.

DocASAP, the most advanced patient access and engagement platform for health systems, health plans and physician groups, today announced the launch of DocASAP’s point of care and access center capabilities to its existing platform. The solutions enable healthcare providers and health plans to optimize care coordination across the enterprise, helping improve outcomes, reduce costs and enhance the patient experience.

DocASAP’s point of care capabilities enable acute care, ambulatory care and emergency department staff to save time matching patients and health plan members with the right provider and setting at the right time, while the access center capabilities help call centers drive the same efficiencies in navigating patients and members to the optimal provider. Both facilitate frictionless, real-time and accurate online appointment scheduling and integrate with practice management systems to automate complex scheduling intake rules, protocols and workflows. The point of care and access center capabilities, in addition to the company’s consumer-facing patient access solutions, can now accommodate non-traditional visit types, such as telehealth/virtual appointments, walk-ins, home visits and phone appointments. According to an Accenture 2019 Digital Health Consumer Survey, more than half of consumers are going to non-traditional healthcare settings for conditions such as flu shots and treating physical injuries.

“DocASAP’s consumer-facing digital solutions are helping us address the access needs of our diverse patient population in an effort to create better patient experiences,” said Dr. Ashok Rai, president and CEO of Prevea Health. “By implementing DocASAP’s access center capabilities, we’ll improve care coordination efficiencies and expand our goal of delivering frictionless access.”

Other new platform tools include pre-check-in capabilities. Patients can now get approximate wait times for various locations and join a “virtual queue” to hold a place in line ahead of a walk-in or urgent care visit. Also, DocASAP’s new registration/intake capabilities enable health systems to move toward a paperless intake process by transitioning the capture of patient demographics, health insurance and questions asked on behalf of the provider, from patient check-in to the digital booking flow process.

“As patient access and care coordination increasingly become priorities among health systems and health plans, organizations are looking to innovate around making access to care easier while engaging patients and members throughout their healthcare journey,” said Puneet Maheshwari, co-founder and CEO of DocASAP. “With DocASAP Point of Care and DocASAP Access Center, our platform offers an even more comprehensive approach to supporting their access and care coordination strategies, while solidifying DocASAP’s position as the leading patient access and engagement platform in the market.”

Christie laser projectors provide precise mappings at Global Shift

News Image

“We tested various projectors using the pixel shifting/eShift 4K enhancement processes and the Christie 1DLP projectors came out on top.”

Global Shift at the Ars Electronica Center is using a wide selection of Christie® projection to examine the influence of technological progress on natural living environments. The exhibition employs models and projections to show how the world and our view of it have changed because of digital progress. Whether digital infrastructure, Earth observation via satellites, or data collected on us every day, it provides insight into the current conditions of our living environment.

Working with Christie partner Ton & Bild Medientechnik GmbH, Ars Electronica Solutions selected one Christie 4K10-HS, two Christie 4K7-HS, five Christie Captiva DHD410S 1DLP® projectors, and three Christie LWU650-APS LCD laser projectors for the project.

Satellite imagery provided by various institutes and organizations was prepared in various elevation models for the precise mappings using Christie TWIST™ Pro to perform this precise terrain mapping (Großglockner and surroundings) in a small area with 4K resolution.

“We are currently working on the digital elevation model for Upper Austria, Salzburg and surroundings, as well as the digital elevation model of the Großglockner with the HS Series from Christie. In addition to this, a projector from the HS Series is being used for the installation ‘ORBIT – A Journey around Earth in Real Time’ by Séan Doran,” comments Patrick Müller, technical director, Ars Electronica Solutions. “We connected the projectors using DP 1.2 fiber optic extenders, ensuring that they are fed the maximum resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels at 60 Hz.”

The installations are controlled using touchscreen interfaces to display and hide the various animated layers of the terrain models or even combine them. The Christie BoldColor Technology integrated in the HS Series proved particularly impressive and helped the team reach their final decision as to which projectors to use. Their low noise level and long service life also spoke in favour of the projectors. After all, they are in continuous operation six days a week.

“We tested various projectors using the pixel shifting/eShift 4K enhancement processes and the Christie 1DLP projectors came out on top,” explains Müller. “The laser light source will also be capable of delivering the desired results, even after 10,000 to 20,000 hours.”

In addition, several exhibits had special characteristics that required customization: “One elevation model on the wall, for example, is inclined in two directions. Positioning the projectors as precisely as possible to minimize or optimize shading areas and viewer positions proved a real science in itself here,” said Miller. The massive flexibility offered by the projectors with the option of a 360-degree installation proved extremely useful in this case.

Eight months were spent on testing, creating content and implementing the projects. Müller, his colleagues and the artists were all particularly impressed by the light output of the projectors in a relatively dark environment: “The results and the resolution were truly extraordinary, particularly the Großglockner digital elevation model, boasting 4K at a width of just 1.77 meters,” concluded Müller. “Not only did we make the right choice in terms of hardware, but also service, as both Ton & Bild and Christie were available to provide support at all times.”
