ARTA Helps E-commerce Deliver Superior Shipping Experiences this Season and Beyond

News Image

ARTA for e-commerce provides instant shipping and service costs from providers at a range of price points, giving sellers ultimate flexibility to provide a better shopping experience for their customers.

Today, ARTA, provider of innovative technology and fulfillment solutions for global white glove logistics, is launching ARTA for e-commerce, a single API that streamlines the logistical complications that come with selling high-value, oversized, and/or fragile goods online. Specialty items are the fastest growing e-commerce segment, but most sellers aren’t equipped to fulfill these types of goods. With ARTA for e-commerce, businesses get access to ARTA’s more than 450 logistics providers, allowing for growth via expanded audiences in new geographies and the ability to fulfill any type of specialty items. Moreover, ARTA provides instant shipping and service costs at point of sale, saving internal time and resources and providing a better customer experience.

“Parcel freight companies like FedEx and UPS have made it extremely easy for anyone to sell and fulfill everyday items online. But to ship items requiring white glove services, there wasn’t a similar all-encompassing solution—until now,” said Adam Fields, CEO of ARTA. “ARTA for e-commerce provides instant shipping and service costs from providers at a range of price points, giving sellers ultimate flexibility to provide a better shopping experience for their customers. We’re excited to enable online sellers to meet consumer expectations when selling specialty items, while at the same time bringing operational efficiencies and fueling growth.”

Online sales are predicted to increase by as much as 18 percent this holiday season, and shipping continues to be a critical component of delivering a cohesive and enjoyable shopping experience. Moreover, items requiring white glove logistics and services are the fastest growing e-commerce segment, growing 20 percent year-over-year. ARTA is offering its expertise to help merchants think through their game plan for shipping these items this holiday season and throughout the year:

Plan Ahead: Shipping items requiring specialized handling have longer delivery lead times in general; aside from renting an exclusive truck (at an exclusive price point), there usually isn’t an option for next day delivery. Turnaround time from pickup to delivery could take a week or more. With ARTA, business can provide specific and accurate delivery windows to help their customers order in time for the holidays – during which lead times can be longer.

Plan for Pricing: An increase in shipments around the world during the holidays means that air freight capacity often gets booked up earlier than at other times of the year, and lower supply could mean your items take much longer to ship. In addition, lower supply also leads to higher pricing; air freight rates often peak around the holidays. ARTA for e-commerce can provide quotes at different price points and delivery speeds, so customers can weigh the options and choose the one that works best.

Plan for Partner Support: Specialized items and precious goods often require special packing or crating. Packing/crating, debris disposal, and installation are just a few additional services that can increase overall shipping costs. As many of these services are often carried out by different providers, it can be a lot to manage from an operational and billing perspective. ARTA’s e-commerce API provides all shipping and service costs upfront, billable in a single transaction.

ARTA also offers ARTA for Auctions, which automates shipping for auction houses and auction aggregators and gives more control and visibility over a fragmented supply chain. ARTA has managed shipments to/from nearly 60 countries, and is trusted by thousands of clients all over the world.

About ARTA

ARTA delivers innovative technology and fulfillment solutions for global white glove logistics. ARTA provides a proprietary API and platform that streamlines the shipping of high-value, oversized, and fragile goods requiring extra services from point of sale to delivery. With a single solution, ARTA safely, easily and cost effectively ships high-touch items to more customers in more locations to drive sales, enable opportunities for new categories and expand the global footprint for businesses today. The Baidu ABC Cloud Group & Security Edge teams is the 11th organization to win the Superuser Award. The news was announced today at the Open Infrastructure Summit in Shanghai. Baidu ABC Cloud Group and Edge Security Team integrated Kata Containers into the platform for all of Baidu internal and external cloud services including edge applications. Their cloud products, including both VMs and bare metal servers, cover 11 regions in China with over 5,000 physical machines. Today, 17 important online businesses have been migrated to the Kata Containers platform thus far.

Elected by members of the OSF community, the team that wins the Superuser Award is lauded for the unique nature of its use case as well as its integration and application of open infrastructure. Four out of five nominees for the Superuser Award presented today wer from the APAC region: Baidu ABC Cloud Group and Edge Security Team, InCloud OpenStack Team of Inspur, Information Management Department of Wuxi Metro, and Rakuten Mobile Network Organization. Previous award winners from the APAC region include China Mobile, NTT Group, and the Tencent TStack Team.

Baidu Keynote at Open Infrastructure Summit

On the keynote stage in Shanghai, Baidu Cloud Senior Architect Zhang Yu explained that Kata Containers provides a virtual machine-like security mechanism at the container level, which gives their customers a great deal of confidence. When moving their business to a container environment, they have less concern. Kata Containers is compatible with the OCI standard and users can directly manage the new environment with popular management suites such as Kubernetes. Kata Containers is now an official project under the Openstack Foundation, which gives the company confidence to invest in the project.

“Baidu is an amazing example of how open infrastructure starts with OpenStack,” said Mark Collier, COO of the OpenStack Foundation. “They’re running OpenStack at massive scale, combined with other open infrastructure technologies like Kata Containers and Kubernetes, and they’re doing it in production for business-critical workloads.”

Intel created Intel Select Solutions to reduce the time required to evaluate, select, and purchase hardware for today’s workloads and applications. They are vigorously benchmark-tested with today’s high-priority workloads, helping businesses realize smooth deployments and optimal performance. By eliminating guesswork and ensuring predictability with pre-defined configurations, businesses can take advantage of new technologies faster.

The new Intel Select Solutions are powered by 2nd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors. They represent a new class of Intel® Xeon® processors designed for demanding high-performance computing (HPC) and infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) workloads. The processor delivers up to 28 cores per CPU and 6 DDR4 memory channels per socket. In addition, they support Intel’s breakthrough Intel Optane DC persistent memory, delivering greater than 3TB per socket. These solutions also support Intel Optane Solid State Drives (SSDs) which can accelerate applications, reduce transactions costs for latency-sensitive workloads, and improve overall data center TCO.

“DataON was an inaugural partner for Intel Selection Solution for Windows Server Software-Defined Storage, and we are proud to be the first Intel Platinum Partner to have all four validated solutions for Microsoft Azure Stack HCI,” said Howard Lo, vice president of sales and marketing, DataON. “Having these validated solutions demonstrates our commitment to providing Intel-based solutions for Azure Stack HCI. Minalex Corporation Lights Up the Night for DeepLight Labs

Minalex was called in to help DeepLight Labs with its signature showstopper product, “The DeepLight,” a programmable art installation piece comprised of two-way mirrors and hundreds of LED lights housed in a geometric frame. DeepLight Co-Founders David Hughes and Neil Merchant—both software developers and frequent music festivalgoers—designed the DeepLight to dazzle audiences at music festivals and other high-profile events with custom elaborate light shows and animations that can be manually controlled and synced with music.

The DeepLight started out as a prototype named “Carl” that was designed specifically for music festivals. The prototype was fabricated with a custom 3-D printed frame, acrylic mirrors and 720 LEDs. Hughes and Merchant knew they would not be able to use 3-D printing technology for the units they would eventually sell to the public, nor could they continue to experiment with 3-D printing in the prototype phase, due to cost considerations. DeepLight Labs turned to Minalex, widely known for expertise in custom prototyping, to devise a solution.

Minalex regards prototyping as a critical step in the manufacturing process, to ensure the end result will be to the client’s exact specifications. Minalex engineering and design teams work collaboratively at the prototype stage, using precise, accurate specifications that enable everyone involved in the manufacturing process to identify issues that may need correction. This effective, efficient process helps save substantial amounts of money and time down the road.

With the prototyping phase successfully completed, DeepLight is now in the final stages of rolling out units that will be sold to the general public. For the physical framework of the new DeepLight units, Minalex created custom, high-grade anodized aluminum extrusions, chosen for their high quality, strength and lightweight properties. The extruded parts both shape the structure of the DeepLight and house the complex array of wiring and electronics that drive the DeepLight’s highly sophisticated visual effects, including dozens of custom lighting modes and animations.

The Minalex process for prototyping truly takes customization to the next level. They can easily produce low-volume runs for limited products. They also offer “no minimum” quantity orders, meaning they are able to create just one single custom item if that is all that is required. To learn more, take a look at how Minalex created a successful prototype solution for Pella.

Gemini Selects Sovos for 1099 Tax Information Reporting Needs in Advance of 2019 Tax Season

News Image

With Sovos, we can react quickly to shifting cryptocurrency tax reporting regulations, helping to ensure our customers are just as protected as investors of other asset classes.

Global tax software leader Sovos today announced that Gemini, the cryptocurrency exchange and custodian co-founded by Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, has selected Sovos for its tax information reporting needs. The Sovos Tax Information Reporting solution will automate Gemini’s 1099 forms and filings, reducing potential errors and delivering automatic regulatory updates in the everchanging cryptocurrency compliance landscape.

Launched in 2015, Gemini has grown into one of the most trusted cryptocurrency exchanges and custodians globally. Founded with compliance as a core organizational pillar, Gemini prioritized tax information reporting as critical to scalability in a market where regulations are still evolving. The exchange and custodian selected Sovos for its experience as the largest private filer to the IRS of 10-series tax forms, as well as for its leadership in addressing the compliance concerns of the alternative currency market.

“With Sovos, we can react quickly to shifting cryptocurrency tax reporting regulations, helping to ensure our customers are just as protected as investors of other asset classes,” said Joshua Rawlins, managing director, financial operations, Gemini. “Sovos provides services to some of the largest traditional financial services institutions and will bring that level of expertise and sophistication to address the reporting needs of our cryptocurrency customers in the upcoming 2019 tax season.”

Crypto tax guidance for exchanges and the investors they serve

Wendy Walker, solution principal at Sovos, said, “Since 2014, investors have demanded more clarification from IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig on the cryptocurrency income that should be reported to the IRS. And while many, including members of Congress, looked to the IRS to provide more guidance, investors were instead met with a threat of enforcement.”

In July 2019, the IRS sent three different letters to more than 10,000 cryptocurrency investors reminding them of their income tax obligations, indicating investors may have inaccurately reported their virtual gains or losses. The agency outlined penalties for failing to report income and pay crypto taxes. Last month, after five years of anticipation, the IRS announced an update to its cryptocurrency policy with more guidance for individuals, but the agency did not specify which forms crypto trading exchanges should use to report tax information to the IRS and to their customers.

“As cryptocurrency tax reporting continues to take shape, Sovos remains at the forefront of regulatory changes and can quickly adapt to rapid reporting requirement shifts,” said Paul Banker, general manager, Sovos. “We will help Gemini mitigate potential IRS penalty risk for its customers and proactively prepare for any upcoming changes from the IRS, staying ahead of competitors who will be trying to understand their tax compliance obligations.”
