Radiant Vision Systems Honored by Global SMT & Packaging Magazine’s GLOBAL Technology Awards 2019

Radiant Vision Systems Honored by Global SMT & Packaging Magazine’s GLOBAL Technology Awards 2019

For manufacturers of electronics with NIR-based sensing features, the speed and efficiency provided by the NIR Intensity Lens solution enables light source metrology that meets electronics production demands.

Radiant Vision Systems, a leading provider of automated visual test and inspection solutions for light sources and display devices, announces that it has been awarded a GLOBAL Technology Award for its NIR (Near-Infrared) Intensity Lens in the category of “Metrology.” The GLOBAL Technology Awards have been bringing together the global SMT and advanced packaging industry in a celebration of the companies and people that are achieving the highest standards and driving industry forward. The awards are designed to promote best practice in key areas including manufacturing quality, customer service, sales growth, innovation, and employee motivation. The awards are held annually by Global SMT & Packaging magazine at events rotating between productronica, Germany, and SMTAi, USA.

Radiant Vision Systems engineers high-resolution imaging systems that precisely evaluate the spatial distribution of light and color, including photometric systems for visible wavelengths of light and radiometric systems for evaluation of near-infrared light. Released on January 7, 2019, Radiant’s Near-Infrared (NIR) Intensity Lens is designed to measure the radiant intensity of angular light distributions and patterns produce by NIR LED and laser sources (VCSELs) used in non-visible 3D sensing applications, such as facial recognition. Radiant’s NIR Intensity Lens is mounted directly to a Radiant ProMetric® Y16 (16-megapixel) Imaging Radiometer and employs Fourier optics to enable single-image analysis of the full angular distribution of a NIR light source to ±70 degrees.

The GLOBAL Technology Award for the Radiant NIR Intensity Lens was presented at the 15th annual awards ceremony on November 12, 2019, at productronica taking place at the Messe München in Munich, Germany.

“We are honored to accept the GLOBAL Technology Award for the NIR Intensity Lens,” said Radiant Executive Vice President and Chief Solutions Officer, Doug Kreysar. “The integration of near-infrared light sources into consumer electronics and other devices is enabling new touch-free device security and operation, controlled by facial recognition and gestures. The accuracy of these light sources is increasingly important for device performance. Because NIR wavelengths of light are invisible to the human eye, automated inspection equipment must be used to measure these light sources for desired output. Traditionally, goniometric systems have been required for measuring light in angular space to ensure accurate emission intensity and scope. However, these systems can take hours to complete an analysis of a single light source, and are therefore not viable metrology solutions for volume production applications like those in the consumer electronics industry. Radiant’s NIR Intensity Lens significantly reduces the time and complexity to measure radiant intensity and angular distribution of NIR light sources. The system captures the three-dimensional distribution of an NIR light source in a two-dimensional image for complete analysis in less than a second, enabling production-level analysis. For manufacturers of electronics with NIR-based sensing features, the speed and efficiency provided by the NIR Intensity Lens solution enables light source metrology that meets electronics production demands.”

Commercial UAV Expo Americas 2019 Completes 5th Annual Event, Exceeds All Prior Records

News Image

“By convening the most influential companies and thought leaders to share their expertise and solutions, we gave everyone involved in the commercial drone market the opportunity to learn from the best.”

A record-breaking number of exhibitors and attendees gathered last week for Commercial UAV Expo Americas 2019, held October 28-30th at the Westgate Hotel in Las Vegas. The fifth annual event had 202 exhibitors and more than 3,100 professionals in the commercial drone industry, cementing its place as the largest and most important commercial UAS-focused event in North America. “The year-over-year growth was tremendous,” said Lisa Murray, Group Director at Diversified Communications, which produces the event. “Attendance was 32% over last year, with drone professionals coming from all 50 U.S. states and 54 countries. We had 110 new exhibitors and a total of 260 booths.”

The event kicked off Monday October 28th with extensive pre-conference programming including live outdoor flying demonstrations in Henderson, NV put on in cooperation with Sundance Media Group and participating vendors AeroVironment, Autel Robotics, DroneNerds, FLIR, Geometrics, Leica Geosystems, LIDARUSA and Micasense. According to Christopher Wacinski of FevaTech, who attended the demos, “Hands-on experience and being able to go physically see the operations in real time was fantastic. It’s critical, because you can really visualize how you can take and apply this technology and demonstration into your real-world operations.”

Vendor and association workshops during the event designed to increase technical know-how included A True View of Drone Lidar hosted by GeoCue Group; AUVSI Trusted Operator Program (TOP) Certification hosted by Embry Riddle; Intro to UAS Ops & Mapping & Advanced UAS Mapping Concepts hosted by ASPRS; Night sUAS (DRONE) CSI Demo hosted by Sundance Media Group; Night Flight Training, hosted by Sundance Media Group; Part 107 Test Prep, Hosted by Patrick Sherman, Roswell Flight Test Crew; Practical UAS Project Operations, hosted by MAPPS; Processing Large Datasets Workshop hosted by Pix4; and Latin American Commercial Drone Opportunities and Perspectives hosted by APD.”

Attendees’ first look at the expansive exhibit floor was during the Monday evening Welcome Happy Hour. Best-in-class solutions from the most influential companies were on display, allowing attendees to network and source the latest drone innovations. Jeff Powell of exhibiting company Autel Robotics commented on the quality of attendees, “One of the differences with this show versus other shows I’ve been to is that the right people are coming in. They’re all here to learn more about the products that they need to use for their industries. So the conversations we’ve had have been significant for us.”

Attendees heard Tuesday morning from keynoters James Bridenstine, the NASA Administrator, and Bala Ganesh, Vice President of the Advanced Technology Group at UPS. Bridenstine discussed how unmanned systems help achieve NASA’s missions to the moon and Mars and the industrialization of space. He highlighted how and why the administration he leads is not only about space goals, but also about aviation, both manned and unmanned. “UAVs and urban air mobility (UAM) are the future, but before we reach that future, we need to work hard in perfecting air traffic management systems and solve issues of infrastructure and certification,” Bridenstine told the crowd.

Ganesh touched on the FAA’s recent granting of the first full Part 135 certification to operate a drone airline without limits on the size or scope of operations, a big win for UPS and the commercial unmanned industry. He said their groundbreaking initiative to deliver medical samples via drones to WakeMed in Raleigh, NC has resulted in lab deliveries that previously took more than an hour currently taking five minutes.

The keynote presentations were followed by a panel discussion of CEOs in the commercial drone space titled “UAS Insights and Strategies for Success in the Current Marketplace.” The panel was moderated by Gretchen West, President & CEO of Schiebel Aircraft, Inc., and featured Mike Winn (CEO, DroneDeploy), Tom Walker (CEO, DroneUp), Brandon Torres Declet (CEO, Measure), and Adam Bry (CEO, Skydio). Each business leader discussed their path to success in the drone industry as well as their vision for the future of commercial UAS technology.

Other programming included Plenaries and General Sessions on AI & Machine Learning, Expanded Operations, Remote ID, UAM and UTM; vertical industry deep-dive sessions; roundtable discussions; Product Preview presentations and Exhibit Hall Theater Programming.

New this year, the DRONERESPONDERS Public Safety Summit included a public safety session with the LAFD Drone Program, a panel on drones in law enforcement and forensic analysis, discussions on disaster response and data management, public safety working groups, interactive Q&As, and more. Said Brian Hon, Arizona Department of Public Safety, “The technology that is being showcased here, the things that we’ve learned and techniques that we’ve gained, are absolutely helping us do our jobs better.”

This year’s event also featured new programming and networking to further advance and promote women in the commercial drone industry including a Women In Drones Session and networking opportunities.

The Tuesday evening Networking Reception, sponsored by YUNEEC, facilitated connections between professionals in similar industries. Brian Tiedemann, Florida Keys Electric Cooperative, said, “The networking is unbelievable. That is THE number one thing when you come to an expo like this. It is second to none.”

Commercial UAV Expo Americas was supported by 288 publications, portals, associations, user groups, analysts, cooperating events, government agencies, non-profits and others. “We are grateful to the nearly 300 partners who chose to back and promote this event. Their engagement is so important, and we look forward to continuing to provide value to one another in the coming years,” said Murray. She singled out Lisa Ellman, Executive Director of the Commercial Drone Alliance, as well as the Alliance, for their contributions. “Lisa Ellman and the Commercial Drone Alliance were critical in securing top-notch speakers and keynotes for the conference program. Once again, their connections and introductions proved invaluable, and we are so grateful for their ongoing support and partnership.”

“The full power of the drone industry was on display at our 5th edition of Commercial UAV Expo,” said Murray. “By convening the most influential companies and thought leaders to share their expertise and solutions, we gave everyone involved in the commercial drone market the opportunity to learn from the best.”

Ciari Guitars to Debut Revolutionary Travel Guitar, the Ascender, in multiple b8ta locations around the U.S.

The Ascender by Ciari Guitars

STRINGS FOLLOW THE FOLD

By allowing people to try our Ascender first-hand at b8ta stores, we can de-stress guitar air travel and achieve our mission one customer at a time.

Today, Ciari Guitars, a music-tech startup based in San Diego announced its partnership with b8ta, a software-powered retail store that provides consumers first-hand access to discover and try new products. Starting tomorrow, Ciari Guitars will feature the recently launched Ascender, the world’s most innovative electric travel guitar, at five b8ta locations in the U.S., including Austin, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Santa Monica and Scottsdale. At each of these retail locations, The Ascender will be available, out of the box, for consumers to test and experience playing.

The Ascender is the first and only premium travel guitar, boasting gig-ready, pro-play quality with unprecedented convenience. The Ascender features a patented folding mechanism that allows the guitar to fold symmetrically in half. To do so, a hidden lever is rotated to immediately loosen the strings and unlock a mid-neck hinge. The neck folds backwards while the strings “follow the fold” and rest gently and neatly within six protective V-grooves for elegant string management. Within seconds of unfolding the neck and returning the lever to its concealed location, the Ascender reverts back to a full-sized pro-play electric guitar with a classic look and feel.

For years, musicians of all skill levels have grappled with the pain points of guitar air travel:1) Do you check your guitar and run the risk of damage or loss?; 2) Do you carry it on the plane and fight the “battle for the bin”?; or 3) Do you leave it at home and deny yourself and others the joy of guitars? The Ascender solves these. When folded in half, the Ascender can be placed inside a gig bag or backpack that never leaves your side, easily fitting underneath an airplane seat. The Ascender’s unprecedented convenience, backed by medical-grade engineering and superior quality hardware components, has positioned Ciari Guitars as one of the most disruptive, market making companies in the guitar industry.

b8ta is a new kind of retail store that offers glimpses into the future of technology, innovation and retail. Since 2015, b8ta has been providing consumers the chance to see what the world is creating. Ciari Guitars Founder and CEO, Jonathan Spangler, a patent attorney and frequent business traveler, set out to solve for the friction associated with guitar air travel. As a result of his problem-solving mindset, Ciari Guitars and the Ascender have arrived for the benefit of guitarists-on-the-go, including professional and amateur musicians alike, and b8ta provides the perfect retail setting to debut the guitar.

A partnership between b8ta and Ciari Guitars is optimal in the modern retail era, in which highly innovative and technically robust products require that consumers touch, interact with and test groundbreaking products. Digital marketing technology has made it easier than ever for direct-to-consumer companies to reach end users, and b8ta’s retail-as-a-service creates space for consumers to shop for brand-new products in-person, in a traditional brick and mortar store setting.

“For Ciari Guitars, a partnership with a company like b8ta is a match made in heaven. We are thrilled to have b8ta as our very first retail partner because Ciari and b8ta share a similar mission. b8ta’s mission is to get products into the hands of people to test and try and our mission is to unleash the mobile musician.,” said Jonathan Spangler, Founder and CEO of Ciari Guitars. “By allowing people to try our Ascender first-hand at b8ta stores, we can de-stress guitar air travel and achieve our mission one customer at a time.”

The Ascender is outfitted with Seymore Duncan ’59 pickups, Graph Tech Ratio Locking Tuners, a Tune-o-Matic Roller Bridge and an electronics set-up that provides wide tonal variety via stacked tone and volume controls and coil split for both bridge and neck pickups. Each Ascender is made in Nashville, TN in association with celebrated luthier Joe Glaser of Glaser instruments, where each neck is Plek’d for optimal action and playability.

To date, Ciari Guitars has been featured in Forbes, Guitar World, Premier Guitar, USA Today, CNN and more.

Musicians are invited to visit their local b8ta store to play the Ascender and explore purchase options.
