Our study looked at overall pricing maturity progress and found organizations are slow to mature and often get stuck treating pricing as a project.

Because organizations with more mature pricing functions have healthier bottom lines, Vendavo, the market leader in commercial excellence solutions, is highlighting pricing maturity findings today in a new study from Vendavo and EPP, The 2019 EPP Pricing Maturity Survey. Findings will be presented in a session on furthering pricing maturity through commercial excellence strategies at the EPP European & Global Pricing Forum in Brussels November 21-22.

In the 2019 EPP Pricing Maturity study, findings indicate organizations have ample room to improve their pricing function. Survey results and how others’ relative immaturity spell opportunity for your organization’s own commercial excellence improvement will be discussed in the session led by Aidan Murphy, Director, Value Consulting, Vendavo on November 21 Next Steps: Pricing Maturity in the Context of Commercial Excellence.

“Our study looked at overall pricing maturity progress and found organizations are slow to mature and often get stuck treating pricing as a project,” said Mitch Lee, Profit Evangelist, Vendavo. “The overall lack of growth in maturity means there’s a huge opportunity for organizations today to get a jump on tomorrow.”

In a pre-forum workshop held yesterday, Darius Fekete, Business Consultant, Vendavo set the stage for today’s presentation with a look at two of the most important profitability areas, pricing and sales, and how maturity in both unlocks commercial excellence in Commercial Excellence : A War Won by Unlocking Value with Your Partners.

Webasto Announces Modular Battery System, Thermal Management and Charging Solutions

Webasto Modular Battery System, Webasto Commercial Vehicle Modular Battery System, Webasto Commercial Vehicle Battery

Each battery pack has 35 kWh of energy and up to 10 packs can be used for a combined 350 kWh.

Our expansion into battery systems, battery testing equipment, thermal management and charging systems means that both small and large manufacturers now have a respected supplier. – Mark Denny

Webasto, one of the top 100 global automotive suppliers, continues to stake a claim in the rapidly expanding e-mobility segment of the commercial vehicle and automotive marketplace. The company exhibited elements of a new modular battery system, thermal management and charging solutions in Ford Motor Company’s booth recently at the 2019 SEMA Show in Las Vegas. Webasto won Ford’s 2019 Best of Show Stand Award for Outstanding Achievement in Design for Mustang Lithium, a one-off battery electric prototype with 1,000 ft-lbs of torque and over 900 horsepower.

“Webasto first entered the electric vehicle market in 2014 with the high voltage heater, as part of its strategic plan to serve its OEM customers as they moved more decisively into the e-mobility space,” said Mark Denny, president and CEO of Webasto Customized Solutions in North America. “Our expansion into battery systems, battery testing equipment, thermal management and charging systems means that both small and large manufacturers now have a respected supplier with decades of experience working within the complex vehicle manufacturing environment, as well as with dealers across North America, Europe and China.”

Battery solutions for commercial and automotive EV applications

The Webasto CV standard battery system is designed for total scalability and configuration flexibility. Each battery pack has 35 kWh of energy and up to 10 packs can be used for a combined 350 kWh. With 400V and 800V versions available, the system can be easily configured via the vehicle interface box (VIB), which is the master battery management system and power distribution unit. It is truly a plug-and-play system that reduces development time and cost for the vehicle manufacturer.

Within the battery pack, the self-contained modules also include desiccant cartridges that reduce condensation, integrated thermal runaway detection sensors and state-of-the-art pressure equalization monitors for added safety. Their compact, energy-dense format makes the battery packs easy for engineers to configure for use on virtually any vehicle platform.

Using the Mustang Lithium to show their capabilities of both designing custom energy storage solutions and supplying off-the-shelf standard battery packs, Webasto set the stage for today’s revelation that its commercial vehicle (CV) Standard Battery System is available in North America. With this modular battery system, Webasto meets the requirements of several commercial vehicle manufacturers to have a cost-efficient solution even for small quantities

Thermal Management Systems

Conditioning the battery is essential for battery life and health. Webasto offers both off-the-shelf solutions for the CV Standard Battery and custom developments for OEM projects. Using both active and passive cooling, electric fluid heating and heat pump configurations, the Webasto thermal management keeps battery systems in optimum operating temperature which have a positive effect on performance and range.

Next generation charging stations and portable vehicle chargers

At the Mustang Lithium display, Webasto also featured its TurboDX Level-2 charging station. The charging unit that was shown connected to the Mustang Lithium is compatible with both plug-in hybrid electric vehicles and battery electric vehicles, and perfect for home, business and multi-unit dwelling applications.

The Webasto charging solution features a slim, compact design, a durable aluminum rear enclosure and a quick-read charging status indicator.

Webasto also offers the TurboCord portable vehicle charger. The TurboCord lets users take their charger with them wherever they go. It can be plugged directly into any standard 120-volt electrical outlet, or even a 240V outlet for quicker charge times, allowing total charging flexibility and freedom.

“With the introduction of our new modular battery system, thermal management and charging technologies, Webasto has demonstrated its commitment to vertically integrate itself within the North American commercial vehicle and automotive e-mobility marketplace,” Denny said.

Edgenuity Earns “A” Grade from Florida Department of Education

The role of instruction in determining student success cannot be overstated. It is because of the hardworking, highly-qualified, state-certified teachers who have routinely gone above and beyond in instruction and student engagement that Edgenuity earned this designation.

Edgenuity, an approved Virtual Instruction Program (VIP) Provider in the state of Florida, announced today that it has earned an “A” grade for its virtual instruction during the 2018-2019 school year in grades 6-12 from the Florida Department of Education’s Bureau of Accountability Reporting.

The Florida Department of Education’s school grading system is designed to convey the achievement level of Florida’s schools. School and district grades describe instructional personnel and administrators’ impact on student learning, including ratings based upon aggregated assessment scores among other factors. Edgenuity’s “A” grade was earned on the basis of both curriculum development and the success of instruction, including student performance on state assessments and engagement with the material.

“Edgenuity is proud to be recognized with a top-level grade by the state’s Department of Education for what we accomplished last year as an approved provider of virtual instruction programs in the state of Florida,” said Kinsey Rawe, Edgenuity’s Vice President and General Manager, Instructional Services. “Beyond providing a curriculum to districts, this “A” grade is a testament to the active role Edgenuity has been able to play in student learning, especially through combining our award-winning curriculum with an engaging instructional model. We appreciate the opportunity to know and work closely with students, as well as with districts to underscore the importance of engagement, testing and implementing virtual programs with fidelity.”

By partnering with Edgenuity as a virtual program option, schools and districts expand educational options for students while also solving many common challenges such as: addressing temporary and long-term teacher shortages; offering comprehensive test preparation; and providing support for students who are homebound or have other unique needs.

“The role of instruction in determining student success cannot be overstated,” added Rawe. “It is because of the hardworking, highly-qualified, state-certified teachers who have routinely gone above and beyond in instruction and student engagement that Edgenuity earned this designation. It has been a great privilege for us to work alongside Florida’s districts, to not only develop a state-of-the-art virtual curriculum for the state’s students, but to see that curriculum brought to life in a way that makes a direct impact on their success and enthusiasm for learning.”

The state of Florida is a nationally-recognized leader in K-12 virtual education. It has the largest state virtual school in the nation and each school district is required to provide virtual education options for their students. Florida’s approved virtual school programs are held accountable for student and school performance. Edgenuity Instructional Services earned the “A” grade for 2018-19 based on the evaluation method established in accordance with Florida’s annual accountability process.

The Florida Department of Education’s Accountability Reports are published online and available here.

WiCyS Receives $150k in Support from Craig Newmark Philanthropies

News Image

WiCyS is helping veterans and other women answer that call by connecting them with opportunities and resources to succeed, ultimately beginning to remove the many roadblocks that continue to prevent women from advancing in the field.

National nonprofit Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) has received a $150,000 gift from Craig Newmark Philanthropies to expand its work to recruit, retain and advance women in the cybersecurity field.

It is predicted that, by 2021, there will be 3.5 million unfilled cybersecurity jobs around the world. Simultaneously, women currently make up 20 percent of the global industry, according to a March 2019 study. WiCyS works to help fill this industry gap with much-needed talent by training women in cybersecurity and connecting them with meaningful career opportunities. Since its inception in 2013, over 4,900 women in cybersecurity have participated in the organization’s annual conference.

“WiCyS is a tribe of like-minded peers and mentors,” said Ambareen Siraj, founder of Women in CyberSecurity. “We are a community that shares, supports, and, most importantly, works together to end under-representation of women in cyber.”

With this philanthropic funding from the organization of craigslist founder Craig Newmark, WiCyS builds on its track record by launching the Veterans Assistance Program. This new effort offers exclusive opportunities to women veterans who are either currently in cyber or aspiring to transition into the field. The program helps veterans connect with WiCyS sponsors and partners, earn a discounted WiCyS membership, apply for the Veteran Fellowship Award, belong to an effective community forum, and more.

“There is a serious need in the US for talented people to help protect our democracy and defend the country from cyber threats,” said Newmark. “WiCyS is helping veterans and other women answer that call by connecting them with opportunities and resources to succeed, ultimately beginning to remove the many roadblocks that continue to prevent women from advancing in the field.”

The gift will also allow WiCyS student chapter members to compete for free in the National Cyber League (NCL) virtual cybersecurity competition, powered by Cyber Skyline. This competition experience helps to provide another layer of skills that are needed to advance in the cybersecurity workforce.

About WiCyS:

Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) is the premier nonprofit organization with international reach dedicated to bringing together women in cybersecurity. Founded by Dr. Ambareen Siraj from Tennessee Tech University through a National Science Foundation grant in 2013, WiCyS offers opportunities and resources for its members and collaboration benefits for its sponsors and partners.
