Long Island Construction Companies Merge

Cook & Krupa and Stuart Berger logos

Cook & Krupa and Stuart Berger become stronger together

The power of this merger is that each company is expanding its capabilities through the alliance with the other.

Two construction companies with deep-rooted histories on Long Island, Cook & Krupa, LLC and Stuart Berger Construction Corporation, have merged. The transaction closed on November 22.

Cook & Krupa was founded in 1962 and was located beneath the 59th Street Bridge in Long Island City before relocating to Long Island. Stuart Berger Construction was founded three years earlier in 1959.

The companies are based on Long Island, but rarely competed for business. More often, they collaborated on projects, each filling specialized roles. The complementary sets of services and expertise are the driving force behind the merger. “This is not a case of bringing two identical companies together just to form a bigger one,” said John Cook, co-owner of Cook & Krupa. “The power of this merger is that each company is expanding its capabilities through the alliance with the other,” Cook said.

Cook & Krupa has deep experience with general contracting and construction management while Stuart Berger has a long history of supplying pre-engineered steel buildings, particularly through a decades-long relationship with world leader Butler Manufacturing™. Stuart Berger also represents MetlSpan® and Parkline™ product lines.

On the practical side, the merger gives the companies a larger and more robust sub-contractor base as well as a stronger financial capability. “Each company was successful individually,” said Bruce Forster, owner of Stuart Berger. “Together, we’ll be able to do even more.”

Companies will maintain separate identities.

Company officials report that Stuart Berger staff will relocate to the offices of Cook & Krupa in Mineola, NY, but each company will continue to operate under its own name. “The name Stuart Berger was one of the most valuable assets when I acquired the business,” said Forster. “With 60 years of recognition and reputation in that name, it’s in our best interest to use it.”

An indicator of future success lies in the many common traits shared by the people who make up the companies. “We have a tremendous amount of respect for each other – professionally and personally,” Cook said. “We share a like-minded approach to customer relationships as well as high moral character, ethics, and integrity. That’s a strong place to start any new venture.”

Boost Surfing Creates World’s First Electric Fin for Surfboards, Launches Pre-Order Campaign

Boost Surfing Fin

Boost Surfing Fin

Using the Boost Surfing Fin, all surfers, regardless of age, experience or paddling strength, have the power to enjoy this incredible sport to the fullest.

Today, Boost Surfing, creator of the first electric fin for surfboards, announced the launch of its Kickstarter campaign and the opening of pre-orders for the world-first surfing electric Fin. The 800-watt Boost Surfing Fin provides 20 pounds of turbocharged motor thrust and speeds up to 11 mph, letting surfers of all experience levels make the most out of every swell and surf session by helping them paddle faster and longer, reducing burnout so they can catch up to three times more waves. The first 250 pre-orders on Kickstarter will receive a limited availability 50% early bird discount of $149 on the Boost Surfing Fin, and early-bird orders will ship May 2020. The Boost Surfing Fin will retail for $299. To check out the electric Fin in action, visit https://boostsurfing.com/video.

There are an estimated 35 million surfers worldwide, but surfing is one of the most physically demanding sports around; most surfers only get about 8% ride time, spending a majority of their time paddling or lining up for waves. Many surfers, from beginners to avid surfers, don’t get the chance to surf enough to build out the muscle power and stamina needed to constantly paddle. In addition, surfers with physical limitations may not be able to paddle on their own or may have difficulty paddling continuously. The rigors of constant paddling compared to the small amount of actual ride time can be frustrating, can ruin surfers’ overall experience and ultimately, deter some from surfing altogether.

The Boost Surfing Fin is changing all that with an affordable and portable fin giving surfers turbocharged power on demand that can be easily transferred from board to board, allowing surfers to enjoy the Boost Surfing Fin on whichever surfboard best fits their needs on any given day. Weighing in at a light 1.7 pounds, the electric Fin installs in minutes, and its sleek design minimizes drag.

“Every surfer knows that nothing compares to the thrill of riding a wave, but most surf sessions are spent paddling, which requires an incredible amount of muscle strength and endurance,” said Dmitri Kozhevnikov, co-founder and CEO of Boost Surfing. “Using the Boost Surfing Fin, all surfers, regardless of age, experience or paddling strength, have the power to enjoy this incredible sport to the fullest.”

The Boost Surfing Fin was conceived by a team of avid surfers with deep entrepreneurial and technology expertise. Boost Surfing is for anyone interested in surfing, including beginners and avid surfers, who don’t get the chance to surf enough to build out the muscle power and stamina needed to constantly paddle; surfers with physical limitations that may need assistance paddling; and experienced surfers who want to surf longer and catch more waves.

Installing the electric Fin is as easy as installing a regular fin. The Fin is connected to the Boost Surfing mobile app, available on iOS and Android, which surfers can use to tailor the exact power and duration of the boosts based on their experience level and needs. The 800 watt Boost Surfing Fin provides 20 pounds of supercharged motor thrust and speeds of up to 11 mph. Surfers can choose to attach a control button to the top of their board, keep it in their hands or attach it to their wrists. The Boost Surfing Fin can be attached to multiple board types including Longboards, Soft Top, FCS/FCS II, Futures, stand up and paddleboards (SUP). The Fin’s battery charges in 1.5 hours and its battery life provides roughly 2 hours of ride time with approximately 95 8-second power boosts.

“Surfers make up one of the most dedicated, passionate sports communities, and the last thing we want to do is disrupt the art of surfing,” said Alex Ostanin, co-founder and CTO of Boost Surfing. “We kept that in mind as we developed the electric Fin, creating a technologically sophisticated product that doesn’t interfere with the dynamics of surfing but provides the muscle needed to help surfers paddle out and get on a larger number of waves for a more memorable surfing experience.”

The Boost Surfing Fin is available on Kickstarter with the following limited pricing packages:

  • $149: Early-bird 50% discount privilege (250 available)
  • $169: Early-bird special (250 available)
  • $189: Kickstarter special (250 available)
  • $299: Early-bird duo – two Fins (150 available)
  • $999: Reseller pack – seven Fins (100 available)

The Boost Surfing Fin retails for $299, and all purchases come with a two-year limited warranty. Website orders will begin in January 2020, and early bird orders will ship May 2020. To learn more, visit https://boostsurfing.com/.

Users Can Now Take Advantage of Zero-Commission Crypto Trading

News Image

Now, Ledger Nano S owners can plug directly into the new ShapeShift Platform, earn 100 FOX tokens and take advantage of the industry’s only free crypto-to-crypto trading option. We hope this further encourages people away from custodial alternatives.” — Erik Voorhees, ShapeShift CEO

ShapeShift, one of the world’s leading self-custody crypto exchanges, announced today that its much anticipated integration with Ledger Nano S devices is now live on the ShapeShift Platform. Ledger Nano S users can plug their hardware wallet into ShapeShift.com and enjoy zero-commission crypto trading from their device. They also receive 100 FOX tokens after signup.

The integration gives Ledger Nano S users free access to ShapeShift’s simple web interface and powerful dashboard for portfolio management. Users can track, send, receive, and secure their crypto without an account at Beta.ShapeShift.com. Users can also buy and trade crypto with a verified account.

“The crypto revolution is meaningless if people don’t control their own keys,” said ShapeShift founder and CEO, Erik Voorhees. “Ledger’s hardware wallet is the most popular in the world. Now, Ledger Nano S owners can plug directly into the new ShapeShift Platform, earn 100 FOX tokens and take advantage of the industry’s only free crypto-to-crypto trading option. We hope this further encourages people away from custodial alternatives.”

Having pioneered a self-custody model with its original crypto trading service, the new ShapeShift.com expands that same ethos into an integrated web platform for digital asset management. Users retain complete control of their crypto assets and private keys through their hardware wallet, but now have the convenience and ease-of-use typically found in centralized solutions.

“Both Ledger and ShapeShift uniquely understand the importance of crypto users having complete control of their digital assets and private keys, which makes this partnership a perfect fit,” said Ledger’s CEO Pascal Gauthier. “This integration gives Ledger users free access to ShapeShift’s platform, providing yet another option for managing their assets with the security peace of mind that Ledger is known for.”

The Ledger integration for Nano S comes as the latest feature addition to the ShapeShift Platform. In November, ShapeShift brought zero commission trading to its platform through its highly anticipated FOX token. Each FOX token provides $10 of free trading volume on a rolling 30-day basis. The tokens aren’t spent or consumed; customers hold them in their wallets. New users can create an account in minutes and receive 100 FOX tokens, enabling $1,000 of commission free trading every 30 days.
