Cubo AI, a smart baby monitor with artificial intelligence that safeguards babies and toddlers, has been recognized by the 2020 CES Innovation Awards for its baby safety features including its design detecting and alerting parents if their little one’s face is covered so that parents can step in to help.

When co-founder Joanna Lin discovered her newborn’s face accidentally covered, she couldn’t sleep for months. “After six cycles of IVF, holding my first child was an incredible moment in my life. We as mothers, parents, want nothing more than to keep our children safe,” said Lin. “We knew this worry of keeping your baby safe was a universal pain point for parents everywhere, so we wanted to create not just a regular baby monitor, but one that could send proactive alerts to help bring peace of mind to parents like myself.”

Cubo AI was co-created with a pediatrician with over 15 years of experience and various experts in artificial intelligence. The baby monitor provides parents peace of mind and their children a better safeguard against potential danger. From the camera’s unique baby-friendly bird design to its exclusive features, the baby monitor was designed to grow with babies through their various development stages and the risks that come with them. The most popular innovative features include:

  • Proactive Covered Face, Cry-Detection, and Rollover Alert
  • Danger Zone Alert for both babies and toddlers

In June 2019, Cubo AI launched on Indiegogo, breaking the crowdfunding record of highest-funded baby monitor with over $300,000 raised on launch day, and $500,000 in two months. Currently, Cubo is in thousands of homes and has a 4.5-star rating on Amazon.

“We are extremely honored to be recognized as a winner of the CES 2020 Innovation Awards,” said Brian Lin, Cubo AI Chief Strategy Officer. “Cubo AI brings together cutting-edge technologies (IoT, Smart Homes, AI, and Big Data) to build smarter and easier solutions that protect the well-being of families everywhere. Our goal is to help every parent in the world find peace of mind and joy in their parenting journey.”

Cooler Screens Expands Its New Digital In-Store Experience at Walgreens

Cooler Screens

“The expansion of the pilot allows us to bring an innovative solution to our stores that brings the power of digital technology to physical retail,” said Richard Ashworth, President of Operations, Walgreens.

Cooler Screens today announced Walgreens is expanding its deployment of Cooler Screens’ first-of-its-kind digital merchandising and media platform.

Following a successful year-long trial at six locations that received very positive consumer feedback, Walgreens has rolled out the Cooler Screens platform to 50 stores in the greater Chicago area. Upon successful implementation of this roll-out, Cooler Screens will expand its platform into 2,500 Walgreens stores across the U.S.

This expansion, the largest installation of Cooler Screens’ technology, is expected to reach over 75 million consumers monthly, including 2.5 million in-store consumers on a daily basis. By embracing this new technology, Walgreens is pioneering the convergence of physical and digital retail as the first retailer to digitally transform the consumer shopping experience in the cooler aisle.

“We are thrilled to be working with Walgreens to deliver our shared vision for the future of physical retail with hundreds of stores and millions of consumers across the country,” said Cooler Screens CEO and Co-Founder, Arsen Avakian. “The opportunity is to not only delight consumers with new, safe, digitally-powered experiences but also to evolve the business of bricks-and-mortar retail. Working with Walgreens, we are demonstrating the value of this new approach at scale.”

Cooler Screens is a Chicago-based company reimagining the consumer experience in bricks-and-mortar retail. Cooler Screens has developed a proprietary digital merchandizing platform that replaces the traditional cooler doors in the cooler aisle. As a result, consumers experience in-store what they love about shopping on-line. With simplified access to the latest and most relevant information, consumers can now make more informed in-store decisions that best fit their budgets, taste and health preferences. Direct feedback from consumers who have experienced Cooler Screens has been overwhelmingly positive. Surveys from pilot locations reported over 80 percent of respondents thought it was easier to find products and the products were more appealing, and over 90 percent no longer preferred the traditional coolers.

“Walgreens is committed to exploring digital innovation that can deliver new and different experiences for our customers, and Cooler Screens has developed a technology that transforms how customers shop for refrigerated items in the cooler aisle,” said Richard Ashworth, President of Operations, Walgreens. “The expansion of the pilot allows us to bring an innovative solution to our stores that brings the power of digital technology to physical retail.”

The Cooler Screens platform also offers new business opportunities for both retailers and consumer product brands. With Cooler Screens, bricks-and-mortar retailers meet the demands of today’s digitally savvy consumers. Cooler Screens data shows that purchases from the coolers increase, lifting same store sales. Further, retailers are able to gain efficiencies with digitized merchandizing, improve visibility with real-time out-of-stock analytics, and access new revenue streams by entering the digital media business and providing brands access to their massive consumer audiences. This positive business impact for retailers has been clearly demonstrated in Walgreens pilot stores.

Furthermore, product brands are able for the first time to directly digitally engage consumers in the cooler aisle and deliver contextually relevant offerings and messaging at point-of-sale. This new channel allows brands to not only build equity but also influence purchasing and gain timely visibility into promotion engagement and effectiveness. To access these benefits, more than 20 of the top consumer brands have joined the Cooler Screens marketplace including Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, MillerCoors, Tyson, Conagra, Chobani, Red Bull, and Monster.

Cooler Screens is a consumer-safe platform that avoids the privacy risks of other digital commerce platforms by never gathering or storing personally identifiable information. Cooler Screens’ model for digital retail is ‘identity-blind’ and is a leading digital retail technology actively incorporating the global Privacy by Design (PbD) framework developed by international privacy experts and advocates to protect user privacy.

To help build and deliver this pioneering platform, Cooler Screens has established strategic partnerships with global segment leaders including Dover for digital refrigeration infrastructure; Microsoft for cloud, edge computing, IoT and AI; and Verizon for 4G/5G connectivity, security, and managed services. Other key technology partners include BOE and Foxconn, the world’s largest high-tech manufacturers of LED/LCD components and electronics.

PLATO Releases new portable lighting Standard aimed at improving product quality

News Image

“PLATO is in an even better position to add value to the portable lighting industry”

For the second time in three years, the Portable Lights American Trade Organization (PLATO), the largest internationally recognized consortium of global manufacturers in the portable lighting industry, today released a new Standard, the ANSI/PLATO FL 1-2019 Standard. The new Standard replaces the previous ANSI/PLATO FL 1 – 2016 Standard.

Developed by portable lighting manufacturers and industry experts and vetted by users and other stakeholders, the new ANSI approved Standard spells out specific testing, reporting and marketing methods for portable lighting products that emit directional light. The new Standard now includes area lights and refines specific lab testing procedures and conditions not addressed in previous versions of the Standard.

PLATO’s Executive Director, Andy Skoogman, said the ANSI/PLATO FL 1-2019 Standard reflects the organization’s commitment to monitoring, updating, and revising the standard to ensure it remains relevant to industry advancements. Skoogman also said this version, like previous versions of the Standard, continues to improve the transparency of marketing claims for consumers and the accountability of manufacturers.

“The ANSI/PLATO FL 1 -2019 Standard allows buyers to make solid comparisons of value and performance from all available suppliers of portable lights, including area lights,” Skoogman said. “The new Standard also reduces the chances that a supplier will make false or misleading claims about the performance of its products either by mistake or otherwise.”

The ANSI/PLATO FL 1 -2019 Standard focuses on the key critical testing metrics: beam distance, peak beam intensity, run time, impact resistance and water penetration protection. PLATO did not change the marketing icons with the release of the latest version of the Standard. The new standard is free to PLATO members. Non-PLATO members may purchase a copy for $500.

“We are confident the updated ANSI/PLATO FL 1-2019 Standard will assist manufacturers in ensuring their products are preforming as intended,” said PLATO President Kevin Parsons. “We feel it also sets a level playing field in helping end users and retailers make informed decisions about choosing a portable light that meets their needs. Overall, PLATO is in an even better position to add value to the portable lighting industry and our members.”

As an Accredited Standards Developer, PLATO is proud to have worked autonomously to revise the original ANSI/NEMA 2009 Standard both in 2016 and again in late 2019. PLATO’s Standard Committee led these efforts.

At the time the latest Standard was approved, the PLATO Standards Committee was composed of the following members:

ASP, Inc.

Coast

The Coleman Company, Inc. Energizer Holdings

Qtop USA

Petzl America

Streamlight, Inc.

Simple Products

Surefire LLC

Underwriters Laboratories

Crowley Company Honored with Modern Library Awards, Office of Economic Development Top 50 Ranking

These are two very different honors that underscore our mission to provide the best in scanners and services to the archives and records management industries, to create a company that makes an impact in our local communities and to provide growth and work-life opportunities for our employees.

The Crowley Company (Crowley), a worldwide leader in digitization scanning solutions and conversion services, is pleased to announce two honors bestowed this week: three platinum Modern Library (MLA) awards and a place on the Frederick County Top 50 Workplaces list.

Crowley Company president, Patrick Crowley, notes, “These are two very different honors that underscore our mission to provide the best in scanners and services to the archives and records management industries, to create a company that makes an impact in our local communities and to provide growth and work-life opportunities for our employees. To receive both honors in one week in a new year is humbling as well as encouraging. Neither would have been possible without the efforts of our staff, vendors and distributors. I’m truly appreciative to each for the positive attention these awards evoke toward the Crowley brand and pledge to continue to build a company of which we can all be proud.”

Digital Scanners, Digitization Services Receive 2020 Modern Library Awards

The Modern Library Awards were created by LibraryWorks to recognize the top products and services in the library industry. Applications were submitted in the Fall of 2019, batched into small groups and sent to the LibraryWorks database of more than 80,000 librarians at public, K-12, academic and special libraries for judging.

Only customers having experience with the products or services submitted were permitted to judge, resulting in an unbiased format. All entries were ranked and scored by direct end-users rather than on written entry alone. Judging was on a scale of 1-10 and covered the areas of functionality, value and customer service.

Crowley’s entries were awarded platinum, the highest accolade possible, in 2020. These include:

Crowley Imaging. As a repository for historical and collected works and records, libraries comprise a significant portion of Crowley Imaging’s digitization services clientele. Since 1980, Crowley has served the preservation needs of archivists, librarians, historians and records managers by digitizing important cultural heritage documents, newspapers, maps, books, microfilm, photographs, slides and other media. Crowley’s own history is steeped in micrographics, ensuring a full understanding of the analog-to-digital cycle and its unique challenges. As a manufacturer and reseller of the best-known scanner brands in the industry, Crowley Imaging’s access to technology for quality digitization is unparalleled, resulting in the divisions’s third MLA platinum distinction.

Mekel Technology MACH-series microfilm scanners. Manufactured by The Crowley Company, the MACH-series scanners are two-time platinum (2020, 2016) and one-time gold (2018) MLA award winners. The MACH-series scanners, powered by Crowley’s custom Quantum software suite, are a staple for libraries with large collections of microfilm. Designed to handle a wide variety of 16mm and 35mm microfilm types, Mekel scanners provide superior, FADGI-rated image quality at high scan speeds.

The Mekel Technology MACH10 is known for its image quality and speed, capturing a 100′ roll in 2.5 minutes with up to 600 dpi true optical resolution. The MACH12, used in libraries and service bureaus to fulfill National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) grants and to meet National Digital Newspaper Program (NDNP) requirements, offers up to 750 dpi true optical resolution. The MACH5 and the new portable MACH Mini models round out the scanner series.

Zeutschel zeta. A multi-year honoree, garnering both gold and platinum awards since the programs’ inception in 2015, the “plug in and scan” Zeutschel zeta scan system has become a patron and staff favorite in libraries around the world. Since its 2011 introduction to the market, the zeta has gained popularity for its ILL-compatibility, compact size, media flexibility, image quality and touchscreen ease. In 2019, Zeutschel released a Windows 10 version boasting a 21.5” full HD resolution touch panel, an even faster processor and enhanced software features. Used for both walk-up and back-office digitization, A2-sized bound or loose material is placed face-up on the split cradle for spine protection. Scans can be printed, saved via USB or delivered electronically as images or single/multi-page PDF’s in resolutions ranging from 300-600 dpi. Cost-savings are quickly accrued via reduced/eliminated wear and tear on the original media, reduced staff time (requires little training and no daily maintenance), reduced paper/toner fees and increased energy efficiency. The zeta scan system can also be fitted with any traditional pay-per-use system for enhanced savings and earnings.

Since 2015, The Crowley Company products and services have won a total of 18 Modern Library Awards. View them all here.

Celerant Technology to Debut Customer-Facing Tablets and the Latest in ‘Endless Aisle’ at NRF 2020, Retail’s BIG Show

News Image

“We are excited to introduce our new special ordering, along with our endless aisle technology next week, our solution allows retailers to expand their product lines without the risk of investing in inventory they wouldn’t normally buy.”

Celerant Technology, a leading provider of innovative retail solutions, will debut its customer-facing tablets and ‘endless aisle’ technology at NRF 2020, Retail’s BIG Show. Celerant currently ranks as the number one software vendor overall in the annual RIS LeaderBoard, and achieved the number one position in more categories than any other software vendor exhibiting at NRF.

Customer-facing tablets

Debuting at NRF, Celerant’s new customer-facing tablets enhance the in store checkout experience by allowing customers to sign up for loyalty programs, review their current rewards and view digital/video advertisements to encourage additional sales in store and/or online. Customers can also view the details of their transactions (i.e., quantity, prices, discounts, tax, total) as items are scanned into the point of sale.

‘Endless aisle’ technology

During Retail’s BIG Show, Celerant will also showcase new ‘endless aisle’ technology. Celerant will debut its Special Ordering at Register, allowing retailers to sell a virtual endless selection of products from behind the register or over the phone by accessing their vendors’ available inventory via live data feeds. Retailers can also offer an ‘endless aisle’ via Celerant’s in store kiosks and eCommerce platform. Once an order is placed, the retailer can have the items drop shipped directly to the customer, or delivered to the store for pickup.

In addition to ‘endless aisle’, Celerant built and maintains one of the largest product catalogs to help retailers build their database. Consisting of over 8 million SKUs, retailers can view the latest products and images from well-known brands, and import the items they want to sell into Celerant’s retail software in just a few clicks.

“We are excited to introduce our new special ordering, along with our endless aisle technology next week,” said Ian Goldman, President and CEO of Celerant Technology. “Our solution allows retailers to expand their product lines without the risk of investing in inventory they wouldn’t normally buy.”
