Clinerion launches its Federated Machine Learning Platform, an ML infrastructure to train machine learning algorithms on a global, distributed RWD network

The Clinerion Federated Machine Learning Platform allows the development of advanced statistics and machine learning (ML) algorithms on data at local site-nodes in Clinerion’s global network of de-identified electronic health records (EHRs). Training and validating machine learning models require large and varied data sets for increased accuracy. Clinerion’s platform, covering 425 M patients in 24 countries, can uniquely provide the required scale of data for such advanced use cases.

Using the Clinerion Federated Machine Learning Platform, users can train models on local data to identify pattern in local patient cohorts, and further optimize models by using data from multiple sites. For RWD, it can be used to develop detailed models based upon all possible heterogenous disease presentations and novel predictive biomarkers, enabling the prediction of high risk in patients before they reach critical state, as well as the generation of disease phenotype sets for the identification of undiagnosed diseases, e.g., to find rare disease patients.

Clinerion’s new platform facilitates federated learning, learning across site-nodes and model deployment to sites, enabling direct, anonymized data metrics and per site / per country patient population insights through advanced analytics. For countries where data access is strictly protected, Clinerion’s Federated Machine Learning Platform enables safe and secure setup of analytics, as the patient data remains under the control of the hospital and never leaves the hospital infrastructure. The platform offers access to multiple dimensions of RWD from hospitals and trial sites around the world, incl. demographics, diagnoses, procedures, medications and laboratory results, longitudinally, through time. This allows actionable insights into the patient journey, as well as access to diverse population data to tackle longstanding health inequities and increase the diversity and inclusion of racial and ethnic minorities in clinical trials.

“This platform builds on Clinerion’s patented technology for distributed query to a hybrid cloud-and-local-node infrastructure,” says Andreas Walter, Clinerion Chief Technology Officer, “which preserves patient privacy at both the local and federated levels. We have years of experience under our belt in how to maintain and leverage a distributed health network, for performance, security and speed – due to this history, the Federated Machine Learning Platform comes out of the gate running.”

“While the Federated Machine Learning Platform supports clear use cases, I am also happy that it also brings innovation to many important initiatives and trends within healthcare,” says Barış Erdoğan, Clinerion CEO. “Personalized medicine, diversity and inclusion, and rare disease treatment will all benefit from this innovative new technology platform.”

Clinerion has developed this technology platform with Innosuisse – the Swiss Innovation Agency, the Bern University of Applied Sciences and the University of Zürich.

Lineal Wins the Relativity Innovation Award for Best Innovation Solution Provider

Lineal Wins the 2022 Relativity Innovation Award for Best Innovation Solution Provider

“Achieving this honor two years in a row energizes us to work harder and partner greater as we strive to achieve our mission of reshaping the litigation services space.”

Lineal, a global legal data services and technology company leveraging AI and process-driven workflows for law firms and corporations, has, for the second year in a row, been awarded the 2022 Relativity Best Innovation Solution Provider Award for their AI suite of Relativity enhancements. The results were announced during Relativity Fest on October 27th.

Each year Relativity recognizes organizations and individuals who build innovative solutions, break down barriers for technology in the practice of law, move eDiscovery forward, and take Relativity to the next level. Winners in the technology categories are organizations using the Relativity platform in creative ways—solving difficult or unique challenges within and outside of eDiscovery.

“Lineal’s clients are the force that drives our innovation, partnering with us to design solutions to their most pressing discovery problems,” said Damon Goduto, Partner at Lineal. “Achieving this honor two years in a row energizes us to work harder and partner greater as we strive to achieve our mission of reshaping the litigation services space.”

Relativity specifically recognized Lineal for its AI-enabled applications Lineal Amplify and Lineal Images, applications that empower litigators and corporate in-house teams to visualize their data, repurpose workflows, speed evidence retrieval, and accelerate the discovery process.

Lineal’s full application suite includes:

Amplify – A Relativity workflow automation tool which brings organization and structure to the chaos of modern litigation by providing a framework for strategic decision-making on a single engagement or across a portfolio of matters. Amplify provides case teams to repurpose their processes and workflows across matters, supplies deep metrics at a glance, with automation and notifications built within.

Lineal Images – A Relativity integrated AI-powered review interface for viewing, classifying, and producing images and other graphics-based content in both SaaS (RelativityOne) and on-prem deployments. Lineal Images allows users to review images as tiles in logical groupings based on their content – landscapes, cityscapes, worksites, colors, etc. — and then tag those images and their duplicates.

Lineal PrivFinder (LPAi) – A proprietary privilege identification application built for Relativity, Lineal PrivFinder immediately identifies and scores privilege documents. LPAi begins by analyzing communication data (i.e., law firm domains, the role of the sender, keywords, etc.) and then inputs case-specific information (communications involving aligned and adverse parties and lawyers, in-house legal staff, and professional signatures, etc.) to provide the likelihood of a document being privileged. Next-generation AI machine learning is informed by a human expert to catch indicators of privilege with uncanny accuracy and continues to improve iteratively with subsequent use.

Lineal ChatCraft – A bespoke Lineal Relativity enablement tool, ChatCraft Enables users to tag and review chat data (Google Chat, Teams, Slack, SMS, etc.) on the per chat, per day, or even individual message level. ChatCraft allows users to keep track of important documents by associating attachments with conversations. Further, users can visualize chat history over timelines, revealing key trends in communications. As a result of ChatCraft, the production of collaborative data is substantially smoother, as the application allows you to export only the relevant messages without redacting countless other unresponsive messages.

Lineal ECAi/Bot Detection – Designed to eliminate junk and provide upfront logical culling. Bot detector technology identifies “bot” generated messages in the review database. This technology is not just a domain analysis; it also compares the ratio of sent messages by certain domains to the number of times those messages were replied to or forwarded, essentially identifying one-way communicators. ECAi culls, on average, an additional 15% of all communications docs. Additionally, ECAi identifies intense conversations through sentiment analysis, and communication patterns are brought to the surface.

Lineal Snippets – An exclusive Lineal Relativity application, Snippets provides a field within Relativity that displays keyword hits in context, enabling reviewers to code multiple documents at once without the necessity to open them fully.

Lineal Ai Threading Application (LTAi) – LTAi identifies the most inclusive document and delivers this information inside of Relativity. LTAi doubles standard suppression rates of communication documents (email, Slack, messages, Teams, etc.) compared to Relativity threading. The average culling performance with LTAi is approximately 30%.

Metrist Launches to Create Observability for Cloud Infrastructure, APIs, and SaaS Products

“You wouldn’t dream of operating your internal services blindly and you need to manage your cloud dependencies with the same care” – Joseph Ruscio, Heavybit

Using social media as the best source of information during a cloud dependency outage is now a thing of the past thanks to Metrist, Inc., an observability startup launched today by two PagerDuty alumni. Metrist gives organizations real-time visibility into cloud dependencies so that they can address outages effectively and hold vendors accountable. The company also announces the General Availability of its product and $5.5m in seed funding led by Heavybit.

Matthew Hensrud, Sr Director of Platform Engineering at Freshly, had this to say about Metrist: “No more waiting for third-party providers to acknowledge an incident we noticed and began investigating twenty minutes ago. Metrist completes our observability story to monitor our third-party services and infrastructure with confidence.”

The average digital business uses more than 100 third-party cloud services to power its products and run the company1, and those services cause up to 70% of all software outages2 with an average cost of $300k per hour3. When downtime happens with services like AWS and Stripe, engineers often address incidents blindly because they don’t have the visibility to know if a cloud dependency is a contributing factor, which then results in confusion, longer mean time to resolution, and higher costs for every incident.

Metrist created a platform to understand the health of every third-party dependency a customer relies on. Out-of-the-box functional tests run continuously to create visibility into more than 60 popular IaaS, API, and SaaS products. Users can run Metrist software securely on their own for functional tests against any service, while an eBPF agent and language plugins enable observation of how applications interact with cloud dependencies in real time. The result is a platform that alerts users immediately when issues start, offering clear and trusted details on what the problem is, so that impact can be mitigated, incidents resolved quickly, and vendors held accountable to SLAs.

Two veterans of Observability and Incident Management co-founded Metrist after working together as early employees of PagerDuty. Ryan Duffield, CTO, and Jeff Martens, CEO, built Metrist because they experienced first-hand the problems caused by cloud dependencies, and heard time and time again that legacy observability tools didn’t solve the problem. In addition to PagerDuty, Duffield and Martens worked in product development at New Relic, Server Density, and Netdata between them.

“Third parties are a first-class concern, and it’s time for observability to treat them that way,” said Jeff Martens, CEO & Co-Founder of Metrist. “We shouldn’t have to wait for status pages to update with vague messages, if they are updated at all, and we certainly shouldn’t have to rely on Twitter for clues into the health of the critical services that run our businesses. At Metrist, we believe every developer deserves an easy way to know the status of any third-party service, with timely notifications and clear metrics that define the health of their cloud dependencies.”

Metrist is also sharing details of $5.5m in seed funding. Heavybit, the leader in developer tool funding, led the company’s financing, with participation from Morado Ventures and other early-stage funds. Joining the round were notable angel investors in the space, including Alex Solomon, co-founder of PagerDuty, as well as Steve Klein and Scott Klein, co-founders of StatusPage.io.

“Modern applications depend on an ever-increasing number of cloud products managed by external vendors, but the overall approach to observability hasn’t changed. You wouldn’t dream of operating your internal services blindly and you need to manage your cloud dependencies with the same care,” said Joseph Ruscio, General Partner at Heavybit, on why they invested.

Ash Patel, Managing Director at Morado Venture Partners, had this to say: “Successfully managing a modern technology application stack is a data-driven business, and Metrist is positioned to own some of the most interesting data on what makes our digital world run. Ryan and Jeff’s backgrounds make them ideally suited to make cloud dependency management a reality.”

Metrist is generally available today and offers a free plan for developers and paid plans starting at just $99/month. All new signups begin with a 30-day free trial of the Enterprise offering. For more information, visit https://metrist.io.

ABOUT METRIST

Metrist provides engineers and IT leaders with a single platform for insights into the health of their third-party cloud dependencies, with unmatched visibility from accurate, real-time metrics. Metrist monitors cloud dependencies from multiple points of view, alerting users to issues immediately and tracking reliability over time so that engineers can resolve incidents quickly and their organizations can hold cloud vendors accountable.

Mercy College Awarded NSA Research Grant to Develop Cybersecurity Technology

News Image

Mercy College has received a two-year $465,398 grant from the National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C), an arm of the National Security Agency (NSA). The grant will be used by College faculty and staff to design a reliable method of reducing cybersecurity gaps that lead to data breaches and to develop a training course at Mercy College for delivering the technology.

The grant stems from the NCAE-C’s mission to create a collaborative cybersecurity educational program to engage experts in the field in solving the rising problem of data breaches. Mercy College has been tasked with addressing the human component in security breaches, especially those involving individuals, such as hackers or former employees, who break through security systems to access sensitive data.

Usman Rauf, Ph.D., assistant professor of cybersecurity, will serve as principal investigator (PI) on the grant. He will be assisted by co-PI, Zhixiong Chen, Ph.D., director of the Cyber Education Center at Mercy College, which has been designated by the NSA and the Department of Homeland Security as a Center of Academic Excellence on Cybersecurity Defense Education.

According to a recent data report from Verizon, up to two-thirds of breaches are not discovered until a year or more after the incident. “By then the damage is done, well before strategies for detection and deterrence are in place,” said Rauf, whose 2021 paper on the subject was published in the journal Future Generation Computer Systems. “We propose to develop a system of detecting irregular or unexpected behavior that should be flagged as a threat.” Once identified, an automated process will alert the system administrator and other authorities, enabling earlier intervention and minimizing the damage caused by the breach.

In a second phase, the team will design a novel master’s level course, Cyber Threat Analytics, that will offer training in observation, analysis, and application. In the pilot program, Mercy College students will use state-of-the-art techniques and pipelines to learn how to detect and manage insider threats in a variety of scenarios. The team also expects to research and publish papers on multiple aspects of cyber threat analytics. “We are confident that the outcomes of this project will be of great benefit to industry and academia,” Chen said.

“Mercy is proud to have been awarded a grant from the National Security Administration and for the opportunity to contribute to the advancement of the country’s cybersecurity,” said Mercy College President Tim Hall. “Through this grant, Mercy also looks forward to giving students the ability to learn in-demand industry skills that will benefit them upon graduation.”

Augintel Selected for Amazon Web Services (AWS) Health Equity Initiative

Augintel is a health and human services-focused software development company focused on solving longstanding problems with data — specifically, narrative unstructured data.

“We look forward to working with ACF, state child welfare organizations across the country, and AWS on our plans for using NLP and cloud technology to advance health equity nationwide,” said Marty Elisco, CEO of Augintel.

Augintel today announced that it has been selected as part of the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Health Equity Initiative, a $40 million, three-year commitment, supporting organizations that are developing solutions to advance health equity.

Through the initiative, AWS offers AWS credits and customized technical expertise to selected organizations around the world that want to use AWS services to improve health outcomes and health equity in any of the following areas:

● increasing access to health services for underserved communities

● addressing social determinants of health

● leveraging data to promote more equitable and inclusive systems of care diagnostics

● advancing equity in diagnostics and screening

The support from AWS will advance Augintel’s efforts to build a cloud-based product that helps state child welfare organizations use natural language processing (NLP) to monitor the performance of their organization. As an example, state child welfare organizations collaborate with the federal Administration for Children and Families (ACF) on Child and Family Services Reviews (CFSR), which are periodic reviews of state child welfare systems against set goals. Augintel aims to help identify critical information buried in the text of reports and assessments in order to improve the CFSR process, as well as give agencies a day-to-day, real-time view of their performance relative to the CFSR criteria.

“We are so honored to have been selected as a participant in the AWS Health Equity Initiative. We look forward to working with ACF, state child welfare organizations across the country, and AWS on our plans for using NLP and cloud technology to advance health equity nationwide,” said Marty Elisco, CEO of Augintel. “Augintel and AWS share a commitment to harnessing the power of technology to help address longstanding social and structural disparities and improve outcomes for underserved communities.”

Another intended use of Augintel’s cloud-based solution is for clinicians, who need to review an overwhelming amount of information buried within notes and health records, taking up time that could instead be spent interacting directly with those they serve. NLP can reduce this burden, saving clinicians time by automatically pulling out critical data about risk factors, strengths, and social determinants of health. This provides clinicians a more holistic view of an individual with the aim of improving the care they provide.

“AWS believes individual health outcomes should not depend on socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, or neighborhood,” said Maggie Carter, Global Lead, Social Impact at AWS. “Cloud technology can help address the inequities in global health that have been amplified by the pandemic. Through this program, we look forward to helping Augintel use AWS to advance health equity and improve health outcomes.”

As further acknowledgement of its demonstrated experience in delivering quality solutions for government agencies, Augintel recently joined the AWS Public Sector Partner Program.

Augintel products are available for purchase in AWS Marketplace.

Slingr makes the case for low-code at event with ADP Lifion

Last week, Slingr, the leading low-code platform for fast, flexible, and future-proof web applications, shared their knowledge about the transformative power of low-code at an event hosted in payroll processor ADP LIFION’s office in New York.

The talk brought together business development, product, and technical pioneers interested in learning how to level up their businesses with low-code.

“It was great to share our insights with a diverse group of experts from some of New York’s most forward-thinking companies,” said Grace Schroeder, founder, and CEO of Slingr. “Low-code is fundamentally reshaping the way businesses develop software. And there was no better place to host this event than the office of ADP LIFION, a company building their next-generation human capital management (HCM) products on their low-code platform.”

Beginning with the basics of low-code, Schroeder shared how low-code prevents businesses from having to say “no” to a customer’s feature request. Through Slingr’s platform, companies can adapt to the needs of their customers by quickly and inexpensively deploying the required features.

Slingr unlocks a wide range of features, such as:

  • Customer portals
  • Optimized product suites
  • Fine-grained integrations
  • Custom workflows
  • New technologies, including AI

ADP LIFION shared its low-code journey with the audience. Low-code has enabled ADP LIFION to develop a next-generation global HCM product that can be extended, customized, and localized.

Schroeder commented on ADP’s excellence in the low-code space: “ADP LIFION created a proprietary low-code platform to underpin their HCM suite. Low-code enables ADP to compete globally despite the need for hyper-local customizations that address unique geographic, legal, compliance, and workflow complexities. We believe that bolting on a low-code platform is a strategy we will ultimately see executed by many forward-thinking companies.”

With low-code, ADP LIFION easily creates new data models, integrations, and workflows. The company can also leverage low-code to develop time-saving automation using minimal amounts of code. Keep up with the latest Slingr updates by visiting our blog at Slingr.io/blog.
