ThinkRF Integrates its RF Spectrum Analyzers with CelPlan Software

ThinkRF Integrates its RF Spectrum Analyzers with CelPlan Software

In combining CelPlan’s drive test software with our spectrum analyzers, RF engineers now have all the analysis, scanning and storage capabilities they need for CBRS in one system.

ThinkRF Corp., the leader in software-defined spectrum analysis, today announced a fully integrated wireless network testing system with CelPlan Technologies, Inc. The solution allows RF engineers to conduct drive tests and evaluate network performance, map coverage, or identify issues with Citizens Broadband Radio Service(CBRS), a new network standard which leverages the previously underutilized 3.5GHz spectrum range for shared public use in commercial wireless services.

With the high-performance ThinkRF Spectrum Analyzer as the scanning receiver and leading drive test software from CelPlan, the solution offers the highest frequency range in the smallest form factor, with 100 MHz real-time bandwidth. It enables engineers to simultaneously monitor and record the 3.5 GHz band of interest as well as the surrounding spectrum for accurate performance prediction, or playback and post-processing.

“The demand for new applications which use wireless communications is developing at an incredible speed,” said Dr. Jasvinder Obhi, VP, Product Management and Marketing, ThinkRF. “To cope with this demand, CBRS-enabled spectrum sharing is a necessity, bringing with it additional levels of complexity when it comes to test and measurement. In combining CelPlan’s drive test software with our spectrum analyzers, RF engineers now have all the analysis, scanning and storage capabilities they need for CBRS in one system.”

“Test equipment is typically limited to a few specific bands,” said Leonhard Korowajczuk, CEO, CelPlan. “Each time a new band is added or wireless technology changes, RF engineers have to purchase additional equipment at great expense. CelPlan’s solutions allow spectrum analysis and technology scanning to be done on the same captured spectrum. Working with ThinkRF’s software-defined spectrum analyzers, that cover up to 40 GHz, allows us to deliver a versatile, cost-effective alternative, which will be crucial to successful deployments of 5G and CBRS.”

By integrating software-defined radio technologies from ThinkRF and spectrum analysis tools from CelPlan, the solution offers:

Purdue University Global commencement to include first-of-its-kind virtual reality component

More than 75 Purdue University Global graduates will participate in their upcoming commencement virtually, using a headset like this one. (Kaplan Higher Education photo by Chad Skelton)

“The graduates will see and hear everything as if they were sitting in the Skirball Cultural Center. When the ceremony begins, they will feel like they are in the procession line marching with the on-site graduates.”

While some 400 Purdue University Global graduates take part in commencement ceremonies in-person Thursday (Feb. 27) in Los Angeles, an additional 75-plus are planning to participate virtually, thanks to a first-of-its-kind pilot program.

“We are proud to be the first university to offer students who otherwise would not be able to attend the opportunity to share the excitement of graduation in a virtual setting,” said Patti Pelletier, director of the learning and leadership community for Purdue Global.

Each of the graduates participating virtually will receive a Purdue Global branded headset to use during the ceremony, as well as a commencement program, tassel and honor cord, if applicable. In Los Angeles, a camera operator will provide 360-degree views – via an Insta360 Pro 2 camera and streamed live on YouTube 360 – and the experience will be launched from Purdue Global’s internally created conference center, PG Connect. A traditional single-view video feed also will be provided via Facebook Live for anyone to watch.

“The graduates will see and hear everything as if they were sitting in the Skirball Cultural Center,” Pelletier said. “When the ceremony begins, they will feel like they are in the procession line marching with the on-site graduates. They will sit with their fellow graduates and watch everything that is happening around them during the ceremony. The virtual graduates will walk onto the stage, hear their name announced and see their picture displayed before returning to their seat.”

Pelletier and other Purdue Global officials worked with George Takahashi, lead visualization scientist for ITaP’s Research Computing Envision Center on the Purdue University West Lafayette campus, on their vision for a virtual reality commencement ceremony.

“This journey started almost two years ago, and we have enjoyed the learning process and benefited from our collaboration with colleagues at the Envision Center,” Pelletier said. “Like our graduates, we persisted toward our goal and discovered other benefits our Purdue Global community can build on for the future.”

A team of Purdue students researched options to help create the virtual opportunity for their counterparts at Purdue Global.

“Our undergraduate and graduate students at the Envision Center are deeply involved in exploring new technologies and the development of interactive visualization and simulation tools for research and learning,” Takahashi said. “Through our time working with Patti, five of our students explored consumer virtual reality platforms and enterprise 360 video recording and streaming technologies with the objective of providing an accessible immersive graduation experiences to those who would otherwise be unable to attend.”

Graduates from Concord Law School and the schools of Business, Technology and Health Sciences will walk during a 3 p.m. PST (6 p.m. EST) ceremony, followed by graduates of the schools of Education, Nursing and Social and Behavioral Sciences at 6 p.m. PST (9 p.m. EST).

“We are excited to offer this virtual reality opportunity to our students, and likewise, we are delighted to celebrate the successful joint endeavor between technologists at Purdue West Lafayette and our staff at Purdue Global,” said Betty Vandenbosch, Purdue Global chancellor.

Heather Bagshaw, senior graduate program coordinator with Purdue Online, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in communication from Purdue Global. She will participate in the virtual commencement with family and friends so they are able to watch her “walk across the stage.”

Bagshaw did not attend college straight out of high school and earned an associate degree before going to work on the West Lafayette campus.

“I always wanted to go back to school, but didn’t want the accumulating debt,” Bagshaw said. “Working in higher education, I could immediately see the value in continued, life-long learning, and Purdue Global was the obvious choice. I plan to continue my education with Purdue Global and complete a master’s program. By the time I graduate with my master’s, my daughter will be graduating from high school.”

Mike Schlang will participate in the virtual reality graduation from his home in Raynham, Massachusetts, nearly 3,000 miles away from the ceremony. “It will give me a sense of accomplishment,” he said.

Schlang, who has been teaching American sign language courses at various higher education institutions for nearly 15 years, earned his master’s degree in higher education with a concentration in college teaching from Purdue Global.

“A master’s will open up more doors with respect to landing a potential full-time teaching position,” said Schlang, a married father of two children. “I have been fortunate to accomplish that goal through Purdue Global because it would have been nearly impossible for me to attend classes when I have mouths to feed and running all over the place with two very active little boys.”

Dolan Williams, a graduate of Purdue Global’s Concord Law School and a member of the Purdue Alumni Association Board of Directors, will provide the keynote address at both ceremonies.

FEIG ELECTRONICS and Dorcia Engineering Introduces Their High-Speed Real-Time RFID Monitoring Solution for the Beverage Industry at RFID Journal LIVE!

High-Speed Real-Time RFID Monitoring Solution for the Beverage Industry

High-Speed Real-Time RFID Monitoring Solution for the Beverage Industry

Implementing the Filler Vent Tube Reader and Traceable RFID Enabled vent tubes now allows the filler operator to perform a vent tube check every revolution of the filler and report the position of each vent tube on a computer screen for the Quality Team to record, while never stopping the line.

FEIG ELECTRONICS, a leading global supplier of RFID readers and antennas, today announced that they will be featuring their partner, Dorcia Engineering High-Speed RFID Monitoring Solution for the beverage industry at RFID Journal LIVE!, April 28 to 30, in Orlando, Florida.

Dorcia Engineering deploys FEIG ELECTRONIC’s high-frequency RFID technology on automated speed filling lines to quickly monitor and identify problems and maintain the highest levels of uptime on these critical machines; maximizing production, reducing restarts, and avoiding product waste.

According to The World Counts, global non-alcoholic beverage sales reached the one trillion dollar milestone in 2019. Alcoholic beverage sales add another $1.5 trillion to this figure. The market is growing between 3% and 4% annually, driven by a worldwide increase in disposable income levels. In addition, according to Global Market Inside, beverage containers, a subset of this market, is valued at approximately $250 billion dollars.

Beverage companies rely on high-speed filling lines that can produce upwards of 2,500 items per minute per line. The slightest problem on these automated lines, such as a missing vent tube, can have a major operational impact.

A Pareto Analysis conducted by the Department of Industrial Engineering at the Durban University of Technology identified that 40% of the liquid loss from a bottle filling line can be attributed to the filler/crowner process.

Companies in the food and beverage industry can experience as much as 500 hours of halted operations on fill lines each year, losing thousands of dollars per each hour of downtime.

“The process of checking for vent tubes is traditionally done manually and requires the filler operator to stop the production line every 30 minutes or every hour to perform a manual vent tube check,” said Grant Cook, Co-Founder at Dorcia Engineering. “Implementing the Filler Vent Tube Reader and Traceable RFID Enabled vent tubes now allows the filler operator to perform a vent tube check instantaneously with every revolution of the filler and report the position of each vent tube on a computer screen for the Quality Team to record or print, while never stopping the line. In our experience, the return on investment by implementing the Dorcia Engineering Filler Vent Tube Reader is realized within the first or second occurrence of a missing vent tube.”

“By implementing the Dorcia Engineering Filler Vent Tube Reader coupled with FEIG ELECTRONICS’ technology, large-scale bottling or canning companies can perform automated vent tube checks each revolution of the filler and will be alerted the moment a vent tube malfunction occurs. This innovative solution will allow RFID technology to be used as a control parameter in this high-speed process, yielding more uptime and decreasing consumer risk and product waste for large-scale bottling or canning companies,” said Klaus Schoeke, FEIG ELECTRONICS’ National Sales Director.

Register for a free webinar, Advanced Real-time Monitoring RFID Technology Applied to High-Speed Can and Bottle Filling Lines, on Wednesday, February 26th

Morphisec Launches Unified Threat Prevention Platform 4.0

Morphisec Logo

Linux is the most popular operating system for enterprises on Microsoft’s Azure today and we’re excited to bring moving target defense to our customer’s Linux servers to cover an existing security gap in cloud workloads in a way no other prevention tool can.

Morphisec, the leader in Moving Target Defense, today launched version 4.0 of its Unified Threat Prevention Platform at the RSA Conference in San Francisco. Morphisec’s 4.0 release adds protection for Linux operating systems to expand its market-leading, deterministic prevention of in-memory attacks and evasive malware to servers and cloud workloads. This advanced Cloud Workload Protection Platform (CWPP) also provides better visibility into the attack chain and detailed reporting on blocked server threats.

The launch of Linux support comes on the heels of Morphisec announcing AWS Security Competency Status for cloud server workload protection and VMware Ready Partnership Status for Horizon VDI Protection as its costumers across more than 5 million endpoints increasingly move to cloud workloads and virtual desktops. These organizations are demanding an additional layer of advanced threat protection as they transfer more of their ongoing operations into the cloud.

“Linux is the most popular operating system for enterprises on Microsoft’s Azure today and we’re excited to bring moving target defense to our customer’s Linux servers to cover an existing security gap in cloud workloads in a way no other prevention tool can,” said Netta Schmeidler, VP of Product at Morphisec. “Morphisec’s preventative approach to cloud workload protection with version 4.0 scrambles memory structures to hide it from attackers while mitigating false positives and eliminating manual configuration overhead.”

The Morphisec Unified Threat Prevention Platform was developed to prevent all such advanced threats without generating alerts to chase, impacting system performance, or impeding business operations. Its patented Moving Target Defense technology stops attacks deterministically, without requiring knowledge of threat type or relying on indicators of compromise (IOC), making it highly effective against zero-day and unknown threats. With this latest release, Morphisec continues to deliver on its promise to provide powerful, resilient security as organizations move to more agile cloud and virtual environments.

“Cloud server workloads are being increasingly targeted by sophisticated adversaries,” added Andrew Homer, VP of Business Development at Morphisec. “Whitelisting application controls are not enough to protect servers. Infiltration and exploitation techniques utilized by adversaries have one thing in common—they’re designed to evade detection and move laterally in order to inflict maximum damage. Morphisec’s in-memory protection thwarts lateral movement by attackers from workstations to servers, protects administrators from document and supply chain attacks, and secures virtual applications.”

Additionally, Morphisec’s Unified Threat Prevention Platform 4.0 includes these new features:

  • Executive Reports: An extensive graphic report describing security posture and attacks compared to global trends. Available as a download or scheduled email update.
  • Morphisec for MSSPs: Increased management capabilities for MSSPs that need to manage multiple customers in a single dashboard with the full capabilities of the Morphisec Unified Threat Prevention Platform.

To bolster IoT data security, major cloud service platforms are deploying TLS v1.3 along with cloud access points configured with FIPS 140-2 validated cryptography to better secure data collected from IoT edge devices. Although FIPS 140-2 is a U.S./Canadian Federal standard, FIPS 140-2 compliance has been widely adopted around the world in both governmental and non-governmental sectors as a practical security benchmark and realistic best practice. As major cloud platforms endorse and deploy TLS v1.3 and FIPS 140-2 configured access points, Allegro extends this trend to the IoT edge with the availability of the Allegro EdgeAgent Suite for Amazon FreeRTOS. By employing advanced security features found in TLS v1.3 together with FIPS validated cryptography, IoT edge device manufacturers can improve device security, reduce risks associated with data transport across unsecured networks, and ultimately build trust around their products.

ADVANCED DEVICE MANAGEMENT FOR IOT DEVICES AT THE EDGE

The Allegro EdgeAgent Suite provides additional device management and communications capabilities for IoT edge devices running Amazon FreeRTOS. For applications where IoT edge devices have local management requirements, the Allegro EdgeAgent Suite provides web-based device management via field-proven embedded web server technology in addition to an extremely powerful Command Line Interface (CLI) capability. Some IoT applications require flexible deployment architectures that utilize IoT edge gateway devices to bridge communications between other edge devices and cloud platforms. For these cases, the Allegro EdgeAgent Suite provides support on Amazon FreeRTOS for parsing and framing XML and JSON messages using SOAP or JSON services to bridge IoT devices and IoT gateway devices.

“The increasing use of IoT edge devices that are driving digital business transformations can introduce new and unseen risks to a business network. Security and risk managers are concerned with potential access to sensitive data, sabotage, loss of control to botnets, exposed IoT entry points that can lead to a major network security breach and more as they deploy IoT edge devices,” says Bob Van Andel, President of Allegro. “Using the Allegro EdgeAgent Suite is another way IoT edge device manufacturers can proactively build trust by improving security with FIPS 140-2 validated cryptography and TLS v1.3 at the edge of their IoT networks.”

“Improving security, reducing risks, and building trust around IoT edge devices is critical for creating value and business outcomes from an IoT ecosystem,” says Tolga Tarhan, Senior Vice President, GM AWS Services at Onica. “We are excited to work with Allegro Software to help extend the use of FIPS validated cryptography and latest TLS v1.3 to IoT edge devices for better security.”

The full Allegro EdgeAgent Suite is provided as ANSI-C source code and is available today. For more information, stop by the Allegro Software Booth #4610 or visit the Allegro Software website: https://www.allegrosoft.com
