More about Inc. and the Inc. 5000

Methodology

The 2020 Inc. 5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2016 and 2019. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2016. They had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent—not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies—as of December 31, 2019. (Since then, a number of companies on the list have gone public or been acquired.) The minimum revenue required for 2016 is $100,000; the minimum for 2019 is $2 million. As always, Inc. reserves the right to decline applicants for subjective reasons. Companies on the Inc. 500 are featured in Inc.’s September issue. They represent the top tier of the Inc. 5000, which can be found at http://www.inc.com/inc5000.

Rebelle Rally Debuts the Electrified Designation for Electric, Plug-In Hybrid Electric and Hybrid Vehicle

The highly anticipated all-electric Rivian R1T is entered in the Rebelle Rally 2020 4×4 Class

“Rebelle Rally shows us what is possible when we have the courage and ambition to do more with the cars in our driveway, and we need that inspiration now more than ever,” said Mitsubishi Motors North America Chief Operating Officer Mark Chaffin.

The Rebelle Rally announces the exciting addition of the Electrified Designation for electric manufacturer vehicles taking part in the fifth anniversary edition of the endurance off-road competition.

The Rebelle Rally is the longest competitive off-road navigation rally in the United States. The remote rally will take place over 10 days and 2,000 kilometers of stunning roads, dirt roads, trails, dunes and designated open off-highway vehicle areas across Nevada and California. Teams of two – a driver and navigator – turn in their cell phones, GPS and Internet enabled devices and navigate their way to checkpoints of varying degrees of difficulty using only a compass, maps, and roadbooks. It is not a race for speed but precision driving and navigating.

Designed as the ultimate proving ground for stock manufacturer vehicles, there are two classes – 4×4 and Crossover. Minimal modifications are allowed. This year, the organization has worked diligently to launch the Electrified Designation – an authentic challenge for electric (EV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and hybrids. The EV and PHEV teams do not compete in a separate class, but directly in their intended class with allowances for on course rapid charging. 2020 is designed as a test of the program with a limited number of vehicles debuting.

“Since we first envisioned the Rebelle Rally, we knew it would be the ultimate true test of electrified vehicles available to consumers and we have worked tirelessly to make this happen,” explained Emily Miller, the rally’s founder. “Providing battery-based mobile rapid charging on course allows these vehicles to compete in the standard classes, an exciting and important component of the Electrified Designation.”

The Entries

The highly anticipated all-electric Rivian R1T is entered in the 4×4 Class and will be piloted by 2-time Rebelle Rally champions Emme Hall and Rebecca Donaghe. “Adventures like the Rebelle Rally are what Rivian vehicles are made for. It’s meaningful to join as the rally’s first all-electric vehicle,” noted Rivian Creative Director Larry Parker.

Mitsubishi returns to the Rebelle for its second year fielding the new Outlander PHEV in the Crossover Class. “Rebelle Rally shows us what is possible when we have the courage and ambition to do more with the cars in our driveway, and we need that inspiration now more than ever,” said Mitsubishi Motors North America Chief Operating Officer Mark Chaffin. “We are thrilled to continue our support for Team Record the Journey this year with the world’s best-selling plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, and to continue to prove our legacy of quality, dependability and reliability.”

Powering the Electrified Program

The Rebelle Rally is partnered with Power Innovations, the industry leader in the development and deployment of consumer and corporate green power solutions, including challenging and rugged conditions like the Rally. The Utah-based company will provide all the power for the base camp, as well as on-course BEV 175 KW fast charging.

“We have a history of accepting challenges that have never been done before – things that a lot of people classify as unrealistic. These challenges push us as individuals and as a company to do hard things. Challenges that will make a positive difference for us all. This challenge should help us all rethink the possibilities of BEV and H2 as we commit to a green future without limits,” noted Robert Mount, President and CEO of Power Innovations.

The Rebelle Rally is a remote, outdoor event with no spectators or outside assistance. To follow along, viewers can watch the live webcast at http://www.rebellerally.com October 8-17, 2020.

About: The Rebelle Rally, entering its fifth year, is the first women’s off-road navigational rally raid in the United States. The event has a unique challenge and scoring system where precise navigation, not speed, is the ultimate goal. Participants trade in cell phones and GPS for old-school navigation in a competition for the elements of time, distance, headings, and hidden checkpoints. Armed with just maps, compasses, and roadbooks, up to 50 teams of two will be pushed to their limits as they make their way across 2,000+ kilometers of Nevada and California’s iconic terrain. Starting October 8 in Lake Tahoe and finishing October 17 along the famed Glamis Dunes, the competition is the longest competitive off-road rally in the nation. Linode Launches a Better TCO Calculator to Help Companies Save Money on Public Cloud

TCO Calculator

The TCO Calculator shows how your costs can explode with some providers, particularly when your workloads scale suddenly and traverse geographies.

Linode today launched an innovative total-cost-of-ownership (TCO) calculator which makes the often complex cost calculation of moving workloads to the cloud simpler and more accessible. Linode’s TCO Calculator is designed for anyone moving a workload from on-premises to the cloud, switching from one cloud provider to another, or setting up a hybrid or multi-cloud architecture. The TCO Calculator is available via the Linode website.

True Cloud Cost Comparisons Made Easy

Linode’s TCO Calculator accounts for all of the costs that go into a company’s server infrastructure. In contrast to many other calculators that ask obtuse and archaic questions, Linode’s TCO Calculator is designed to be approachable and useful to everyone. Even those who are not fluent in server plans and CPU core counts can still receive a useful estimate, trustworthy comparisons and technical recommendations.

The TCO Calculator starts by offering eight different pre-packaged bundles of services to choose from, each corresponding with a common workload, such as websites, databases, data analysis, content delivery, code repository, backups and more. Within each package, a slider tool allows the user to adjust key variables, if desired.

“We did all the legwork and pricing reviews so that the person using our TCO Calculator doesn’t have to,” said Nathan Melehan, TCO Calculator project lead. “The components of AWS pricing are not available in one place and typically vary considerably by geography and other factors. Linode’s TCO Calculator pulls back the curtain on AWS pricing and lets you see the true cloud costs you are likely to encounter.”

No More Surprises: Customizable, Dynamic Comparison of Variable Costs

For those who want to dig deeper into the finer details of infrastructure architecture, Linode’s TCO Calculator offers a bespoke cost comparison for custom workloads, allowing the user to specify arbitrary compute, storage, and networking resources. Users may even choose to precisely map their existing infrastructure.

Linode’s TCO Calculator provides interactive estimates as well. The calculator offers a slider that dynamically illustrates how costs vary depending on network transfer usage and geographic locations.

“One of the biggest and most pervasive fears business executives have is not being able to plan for unanticipated events, especially when those events can have a significant impact on their operational expenses,” says Melehan. “You want to know how much your bills will be as your business grows. The TCO Calculator shows how your costs can explode with some providers, particularly when your workloads scale suddenly and traverse geographies.”

TCO Report: True Cost Comparisons in Black and White

Linode’s TCO Calculator automatically provides a report to the user with three key components:

1. A summary of cost breakdowns, comparing AWS and Linode as well as on-premises installations, if selected. Any assumptions are listed in an appendix.

2. A recap of all qualitative information compiled in the process, including links to helpful documentation.

3. Recommendations, based on the users specific requirements related to customer support needs, avoiding vendor lock-in, cost savings, predictability and transparency of billing, data sovereignty requirements and more.

Designed for enterprise users, small and medium-sized businesses, agencies and freelance web designers, Linode’s TCO Calculator is free and can be used an unlimited number of times by the same user. The company also has a simplified pricing tool for smaller-scale and personal use cases. Called the Linode Cloud Estimator tool, it offers instant pricing comparisons of Linode, AWS, GCP and Azure.

About Linode

Linode accelerates innovation by making cloud computing simple, accessible, and affordable to all. Founded in 2003, Linode helped pioneer the cloud computing industry and is today the largest independent open cloud provider in the world. Headquartered in Philadelphia’s Old City, the company empowers more than a million developers, startups, and businesses across its global network of 11 data centers.

Definitive Business Solutions Announces Strategic Partnership with React, LLC for Game Schedule Optimization

Definitive Business Solutions Logo

Definitive Business Solutions, Inc.

If you put safety first, you give your league the greatest probability of a successful season, which then opens the door to maximizing revenue by optimizing the schedule, team match-ups, and media platform revenue.

With the COVID-19 pandemic wreaking havoc on the professional and college sports world, league commissioners and university presidents are having to make complex, strategic decisions about whether to play or not, and if so, how best to plan their season. These decisions require synthesizing the latest medical data with judgment from a wide range of medical experts with insights from business leaders. With that as the backdrop, John Sammarco, Definitive’s President, announced a strategic partnership with React LLC, who are thought leaders in designing economically viable pandemic-proof game schedules.

Sammarco stated that some have the decision-making process backwards. “The goal shouldn’t be to put the economics first, and then try to arrive at a workable approach that is safe. The goal should be to maximize the safety of players, personnel, and fans, while finding the most economically advantageous approach to the season.” He went on to add: “If you put safety first, you give your league the greatest probability of a successful season, which then opens the door to maximizing revenue by optimizing the schedule, team match-ups, and media platform revenue.”

React’s CEO Frank Maggio reinforced the value of the partnership stating that “The number of variables and constraints that need to be included to intelligently meet the new challenges of COVID-19 requires cutting-edge analytic capabilities and innovative software. Definitive Pro® has evaluated over 50,000 alternative approaches to help us build two versions of our 10-game, 17-week schedule. The computational power to deliver these game schedules is significant, and Definitive was up to the challenge.” Maggio concludes, “We think there are solutions needed at the professional and collegiate levels, across many sports, and we’re looking forward to continued collaboration with the Definitive team.”

Why and How You Should Better Assess the Competition Now

Do you really understand your clients’ perception of your brand or product relative to your competition? Do you truly know your potential clients’ perception? In other words, do you actually realize how and why your brand fits in the competitive landscape, and do you understand what you need to do to improve?

Understanding how your brand is perceived relative to its competition is critical intelligence for any company selling in a competitive environment. Without this information, a company may be at a competitive disadvantage and not even know why and how come. Typical competitive intelligence often provides the “whats” (e.g., market share, product features and functionality) but lacks the actual voice of the customer and voice of the prospect to tell you why the product set is viewed in the marketplace as it actually is and how that perception drives sales realities.

By gathering feedback directly from users of these products, and through candid conversations with individuals with direct knowledge of the product, Mercator will plot and explain relative market position in a way that other competitive intelligence simply cannot.

Benefits of this program:

  • Arm your sales force, other front-line staff and customer service teams with the tools to speak intelligently about competitive offerings, handle tough questions and defuse difficult situations
  • Add your end-users’ perspectives into your competitive intelligence arsenal
  • Improve revenue opportunities
  • Mitigate risks
  • Gain critical, actionable information for product and marketing teams
  • Identify areas for immediate impact and improvement

Deliverables of the program:

Via our interview-based methodology, we will develop a custom set of research deliverables with clear recommendations for improvement and key brand talking points that will aim for maximum effectiveness and high impact for your organization. This approach is designed to explore key issues among the survey participants including:

  • Awareness and familiarity with the brands in the competitive set
  • Identification of industry leaders and laggards
  • An understanding of the brands in the consideration set during the next contract negotiations
  • The difficulty or ease of switching current supplier(s)
  • The degree of satisfaction, the likelihood to recommend, uncovered problems or annoyances, and an evaluation of key metrics around product, service and value from the direct perspectives from your brand’s users

2 JetForm/Adobe Central Server replacement projects, successfully completed by DocPath

DocPath Ontario Suite, part of DocPath’s CCM (Customer Communications Management) document software offering, was the perfect solution for a transparent, rapid and secure migration from JetForm/Adobe Central Server

2 JetForm/Adobe Central Server replacement projects, successfully completed

Given the success of the JetForm/Adobe Central Server software replacement, both companies subscribed also to DocPath’s Maintenance and Support service offering, which assures software updates and support for the resolution of any incident that may arise.

Recently, DocPath successfully completed two projects that aimed to replace the JetForm/Adobe Central Server software, thus ensuring the continuity of the customer’s form designs and optimizing its document design, generation, printing and distribution processes. This has been achieved thanks to the DocPath Ontario Suite document software solution and the extensive experience of DocPath’s technicians for this kind of project.

One project was carried out in the Hungarian headquarters of a large Japanese automotive company and the other was executed for a Spanish lock manufacturer, which in turn is part of a Swedish group of companies.

Required changes

The software used by both companies was JetForm/Adobe Central Server. One of the first document software products that allowed designing and generating business documents on desktop laser printers. Back then, it was a resounding success, due to the fact that it has been implemented by many companies all around the world. However, companies that still use this kind of technology now face the need to find an alternative solution, since this product no longer offers technical support.

Adopted solution

DocPath Ontario Suite, part of DocPath’s CCM (Customer Communications Management) document software offering, was the perfect solution for a transparent, rapid and secure migration from JetForm/Adobe Central Server, which avoids having to apply any kind of modification to the applications. With the new document software solution, the customers gained access to many additional features, besides what JetForm already had provided, such as dynamic graphics, HTML5 output, full color support, multitasking, use of containers and kubernetes …

Implementation project

The installation of the document software solution within the infrastructure of the customer had been carried out remotely by DocPath’s technical department. In addition, a comprehensive training on the document generation engine and document design software was provided to the customer.

The high level of DocPath’s professional services allowed these customers to gain access to a technical support team that resolved any doubts and/or problems that might have arisen while implementing DocPath’s Ontario Suite document software.

Given the success of the JetForm/Adobe Central Server software replacement, both companies subscribed also to DocPath’s Maintenance and Support service offering, which assures software updates and support for the resolution of any incident that may arise.
