Rigaku Introduces New X-ray Diffraction System with Intelligent Workflow Automation

Rigaku XtaLAB Synergy Flow system

Rigaku XtaLAB Synergy Flow system

The XtaLAB Synergy Flow system was designed to take full advantage of the enhanced performance by minimizing the time that an instrument might sit idle due to lack of human interaction.

Rigaku Corporation, the world’s leading provider of X-ray analytical instrumentation, is pleased to announce the release of a new X-ray diffractometer system with integrated sample-changing automation. The new Rigaku XtaLAB Synergy Flow system was first announced in the August edition of Crystallography Times, the electronic newsletter published by Rigaku focusing on single crystal X-ray diffraction.

The new diffractometer system features an integrated sample-changing automation platform, designed to improve research workflow. Rigaku XtaLAB Synergy diffractometers are known for high-performance X-ray sources and direct X-ray detection detectors, a combination designed for high throughput. The new XtaLAB Synergy Flow system incorporates a 6-axis UR3 Universal Robot into the popular XtaLAB Synergy diffractometer, enabling unattended crystal mounting and data acquisition and thus the high performance of the instrument can be fully realized.

By incorporating a unique X-ray safe dewar-drawer system that can be accessed from the side of the cabinet during data collection, the XtaLAB Synergy Flow system avoids the problem of having to halt data collection in order to open the enclosure and add more samples. Data collection can continue unimpeded.

The XtaLAB Synergy Flow system is controlled by CrysAlisPro X-ray diffraction data collection and processing software for small molecule and protein crystallography, designed around an easy-to-use graphical user interface.

The system utilizes the Intelligent Goniometer Head (IGH), a motorized automated goniometer head with fast response and built in intelligence. Automated sample centering can be as fast as 6 seconds on dual-camera systems.

As concerns about the spread of COVID-19 and other contagions grow, the XtaLAB Synergy Flow system can be used as part of a sample submission protocol that minimizes human contact. The XtaLAB Synergy Flow system was designed to take full advantage of the enhanced performance by minimizing the time that an instrument might sit idle due to lack of human interaction. With automated sample mounting, potential contamination of the diffractometer by human contact is eliminated. A crystal capacity of 48 samples means that unattended data collection can be easily performed, thus minimizing the time required to be in the X-ray laboratory.

More information about single crystal diffraction solutions from Rigaku is available at http://www.rigaku.com/smc.

Princeton Identity Adds Temperature Sensor

Access 200 with temperature control

“As people return towork or school across various segments, we see the need to offer a touchless temperature screen to ourfamily of products.”

Princeton Identity is announcing today the addition of a new temperature scanning module to its IOM Access200 biometric identity product family.

Working in conjunction with existing access control systems, a sequence of biometric access and temperature scanning can be used to protect building entry. Namely, for areas that want to perform adjunctive temperature screening of personnel, the temperature module can be added to the biometric readers. If a person fails to be recognized or has a temperature above a set-point, building access will be denied. Both the biometric and temperature scans are touchless applications which further improves hygiene. Additionally, using Princeton Identity’s patented iris-matching technology, identification is validated while wearing masks and googles.

“Dating back to outbreaks like SARS, MERS, and now COVID-19, there is a pent-up demand for effective detection of potentially infected individuals, typically through the presence of fever, that drove us to expand our touchless solution,” commented Bobby Varma, CEO Princeton Identity. “As people return to work or school across various segments, we see the need to offer a touchless temperature screen to our family of products.”

“The temperature module has been incorporated completely into our Access200 software so users can easily turn-on this new application like any other feature within this product family,” stated Sean Singer, VP Engineering Princeton Identity. Providing this added flexibility in a touchless environment offers customers another layer of protection into their access applications.”

Benefit Auction 2020 In partnership with Artsy

News Image

Jennifer Howell, who founded The Art Of Elysium in 1997 says, “August 2020 marks 23 years of The Art of Elysium’s mission and programs that are all centered around bringing the healing power of art to those who need it the most.”

The Art of Elysium, entering its 23rd year of service with the mission to use art to improve lives, has partnered with Artsy to present a socially-distanced public art auction in celebration of the organization’s 23rd Anniversary. As the nation responds to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Art of Elysium is working to raise much-needed dollars to sustain the art programs the organization serves: hospitalized youth, elders, the homeless community, veterans, special needs and inner-city schools.

The impact of The Art Of Elysium Art Programs in the community is evident. Prior to the pandemic the dedicated program directors worked with 2,145 artist volunteers to provide 1,268 programs to 32,660 underserved individuals in over 48 facilities throughout Los Angeles County. This auction is made possible by the generosity of our artists who have donated their work in support of our mission. Shepard Fairey has installed a public art installation on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Palladium in support of our 23rd anniversary.

Some of the work that has been donated for the auction include works by Abdullah Quandeel, Allen Ginsberg, Anderson and Low, Andre Masson, Andy Moses, Anthony James, Beau Dunn, Cole Sternberg, Conrad Marca-Relli, Donna Isham, Ed Moses, Gregory Siff, Hunt Slonem, Jack Youngerman, James Georgopoulus, James Goldcrown, Mark Tobey, Oscar De Mejo, Romare Bearden, Russell Young + Henry Diltz, Shepard Fairey, and Will Barnet.

Due to safer at home restrictions and the high-risk underlying medical issues of the populations the organization has served for over two decades they have been unable to do in-person workshops and programs. The Art of Elysium’s solution is to provide their services virtually through Zoom and offer free online art lessons. Many individuals in our city are incredibly vulnerable; revenue from this auction will help ensure their mission continues and thrives despite this pandemic.

Browse lots and place bids before the sale closes on Wednesday, September 16th at 2:00pm PDT/5:00pm EDT.

Scenic Labs Releases MediaLight Mk2 Bias Lighting Range

MediaLight provides a neutral ambient light that’s ideal for both content creation and content reproduction.

Scenic Labs LLC, an industry-leading provider of bias lighting and video optimization tools, announces its latest line of bias lights and color grading suite lighting solutions.

The MediaLight Mk2 Series is available in a range of new sizes and formats, including a dimmable A19 bulb, a grading suite desk lamp and a range of new MediaLight Mk2 lighting strips, all of which offer outstanding simulated D65 accuracy, color rendering index (CRI) ≥ 98, and TLCI 99. The entire range has been certified for accuracy by the Imaging Science Foundation and is available now.

Jason Rosenfeld, president of Scenic Labs, says, “The capabilities of professional and consumer displays are constantly improving, and users spend considerable time getting their settings just right. Professionals have long known that low quality lights with poor color rendering effectively ‘uncalibrate’ a display in the viewer’s eyes. The MediaLight Mk2 Series brings unparalleled accuracy to even the most color-critical environments.”

“The new ColorGrade Mk2 LED chips used in these updated lighting options strike an incredible balance between performance and affordability for all aspects of suite lighting,” says Bram Desmet, CEO of Flanders Scientific. “In particular, the A19 bulb and desk lamp address the unique needs of professional color-grading suites with solutions that warm up almost instantly, remain accurate when dimmed, and have an exceptionally high CRI/TLCI. Best of all, the SMD chips shared between the Mk2 Flex, Eclipse, desk lamp and A19 bulbs provide for consistent lighting throughout the suite, something we know our colorist clients will greatly appreciate.”

“ISF strongly recommends watching movies with the same lighting that directors used to create them,” says Joel Silver, founder and president of the Imaging Science Foundation. “We’ve been recommending the MediaLight to post-production professionals for quite some time; it’s the best tool we have found for studio lighting. Now, we’re working with CEDIA to bring this quality of lighting into residential installations. The environmental color impacts our perception of color on the screen; MediaLight provides a neutral ambient light that’s ideal for both content creation and content reproduction.”

The desk lamp, co-branded as the Ideal-Lume Desk Lamp by MediaLight, was designed in partnership with bias-lighting pioneer CinemaQuest, Inc., renowned for their Ideal-Lume bias-lighting brand. CinemaQuest, Inc. president Alan Brown says, “CinemaQuest, Inc. shares MediaLight’s passion for accurate video-viewing environment lighting. The Ideal-Lume brand has been synonymous with accuracy for over twenty years, and we’re pleased to be collaborating with Scenic Labs on a new generation of reference-grade solutions for consumers and professionals.”

Rebelle Rally Debuts the Electrified Designation for Electric, Plug-In Hybrid Electric and Hybrid Vehicle

The highly anticipated all-electric Rivian R1T is entered in the Rebelle Rally 2020 4×4 Class

“Rebelle Rally shows us what is possible when we have the courage and ambition to do more with the cars in our driveway, and we need that inspiration now more than ever,” said Mitsubishi Motors North America Chief Operating Officer Mark Chaffin.

The Rebelle Rally announces the exciting addition of the Electrified Designation for electric manufacturer vehicles taking part in the fifth anniversary edition of the endurance off-road competition.

The Rebelle Rally is the longest competitive off-road navigation rally in the United States. The remote rally will take place over 10 days and 2,000 kilometers of stunning roads, dirt roads, trails, dunes and designated open off-highway vehicle areas across Nevada and California. Teams of two – a driver and navigator – turn in their cell phones, GPS and Internet enabled devices and navigate their way to checkpoints of varying degrees of difficulty using only a compass, maps, and roadbooks. It is not a race for speed but precision driving and navigating.

Designed as the ultimate proving ground for stock manufacturer vehicles, there are two classes – 4×4 and Crossover. Minimal modifications are allowed. This year, the organization has worked diligently to launch the Electrified Designation – an authentic challenge for electric (EV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and hybrids. The EV and PHEV teams do not compete in a separate class, but directly in their intended class with allowances for on course rapid charging. 2020 is designed as a test of the program with a limited number of vehicles debuting.

“Since we first envisioned the Rebelle Rally, we knew it would be the ultimate true test of electrified vehicles available to consumers and we have worked tirelessly to make this happen,” explained Emily Miller, the rally’s founder. “Providing battery-based mobile rapid charging on course allows these vehicles to compete in the standard classes, an exciting and important component of the Electrified Designation.”

The Entries

The highly anticipated all-electric Rivian R1T is entered in the 4×4 Class and will be piloted by 2-time Rebelle Rally champions Emme Hall and Rebecca Donaghe. “Adventures like the Rebelle Rally are what Rivian vehicles are made for. It’s meaningful to join as the rally’s first all-electric vehicle,” noted Rivian Creative Director Larry Parker.

Mitsubishi returns to the Rebelle for its second year fielding the new Outlander PHEV in the Crossover Class. “Rebelle Rally shows us what is possible when we have the courage and ambition to do more with the cars in our driveway, and we need that inspiration now more than ever,” said Mitsubishi Motors North America Chief Operating Officer Mark Chaffin. “We are thrilled to continue our support for Team Record the Journey this year with the world’s best-selling plug-in hybrid electric vehicle, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, and to continue to prove our legacy of quality, dependability and reliability.”

Powering the Electrified Program

The Rebelle Rally is partnered with Power Innovations, the industry leader in the development and deployment of consumer and corporate green power solutions, including challenging and rugged conditions like the Rally. The Utah-based company will provide all the power for the base camp, as well as on-course BEV 175 KW fast charging.

“We have a history of accepting challenges that have never been done before – things that a lot of people classify as unrealistic. These challenges push us as individuals and as a company to do hard things. Challenges that will make a positive difference for us all. This challenge should help us all rethink the possibilities of BEV and H2 as we commit to a green future without limits,” noted Robert Mount, President and CEO of Power Innovations.

The Rebelle Rally is a remote, outdoor event with no spectators or outside assistance. To follow along, viewers can watch the live webcast at http://www.rebellerally.com October 8-17, 2020.

About: The Rebelle Rally, entering its fifth year, is the first women’s off-road navigational rally raid in the United States. The event has a unique challenge and scoring system where precise navigation, not speed, is the ultimate goal. Participants trade in cell phones and GPS for old-school navigation in a competition for the elements of time, distance, headings, and hidden checkpoints. Armed with just maps, compasses, and roadbooks, up to 50 teams of two will be pushed to their limits as they make their way across 2,000+ kilometers of Nevada and California’s iconic terrain. Starting October 8 in Lake Tahoe and finishing October 17 along the famed Glamis Dunes, the competition is the longest competitive off-road rally in the nation.
