Dispatch a Drone from Your Phone with New Drone-on-Demand App

News Image

Aquiline Drone’s Drone-on-Demand app provides the convenience of ordering powerful drone services right from their fingertips.

“Many individuals, businesses, law enforcement agencies, etc. are missing out on the invaluable data collection capabilities of drones because they lack the resources for an in-house drone operation,” explains Barry Alexander, CEO, and founder of Aquiline Drones.

Drones offer unparalleled views from above, but the cost and complexity of operating drone equipment often outweigh the benefits for many organizations and individuals. Now Aquiline Drones (AD), the nation’s fastest-growing drone manufacturing and cloud technology company, is just weeks away from launching the nation’s first true “Drone-on-Demand” (DoD) mobile app.

“Many individuals, businesses, law enforcement agencies, public works departments, and the military are missing out on the invaluable data collection capabilities of drones because they lack the resources for an in-house drone operation,” explains Barry Alexander, CEO, and founder of Aquiline Drones. “Akin to Uber and Lyft, individuals and businesses can now enjoy the luxury and convenience of ordering both private and commercial drone services right from their fingertips. A modern-day convenience everyone should have!”

The DoD app will be accessible through all mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets. The user may order aerial photography and videography services for most everything; utility inspections (power lines, wind turbines, bridges, tunnels, railroad tracks, etc.) outdoor events, real estate, safety patrol, search and rescue missions, precision farming, tracking wildlife, beach patrol for spotting sharks and countless other applications.

“Beyond simple viewing and camera capabilities, the drones manufactured and deployed by Aquiline Drones are managed and supported by the world’s first aviation-inspired drone cloud that gathers, analyzes, models and stores data and video,” says Alexander. “Additionally, as a drone airline committed to safety, our drone-on-demand service was designed to elevate the safety standard, fostering a more responsible introduction and use of drones in society.”

Alexander notes that drones are difficult to control. One bad move and an amateur pilot could be looking at hundreds or thousands of dollars in damage, or a full drone replacement. Drones also have an unfortunate reputation as annoying gadgetry utilized to invade privacy.

DoD addresses all of these issues and utilizes artificial intelligence to essentially remove the risk of hardware loss and liability from bad piloting associated with consumer drone ownership. And with AD’s Flight to the Future drone training academy, a new breed of highly trained and safe drone pilots is well underway to perform the jobs generated from customer app requests.

AD is one of four drone airline companies in America but the only one privately owned by professional aviators.

On the supply side of the industry, AD is focused on using both semi-autonomous and autonomous drones to record predefined physical locations submitted through customer requests via the app. AD’s proprietary drones are manufactured in Connecticut and equipped with capabilities such as AI-assisted object recognition, target tracking, 4K video recording, thermo and night-vision, and other essential features. The job of fulfilling customer service requests through the app will be performed by graduates of AD’s Flight to the Future program, an online drone pilot training course and employment opportunity for anyone 18+ that launched this month.

Users of the app will have the unique experience of interacting live with the drone during flight, plus later obtain footage of the recorded content. The hourly cost varies depending on the customer’s request, job complexity, flight duration and other factors.

“We envision a world in which humans and drones live and operate harmoniously, using their real-time control, autonomy and analytics to reduce costs, create new business value and save lives,” concludes Alexander. “At the same time, we recognize the responsibility of ensuring our equipment works within a legal and ethical framework through our collaboration with the FAA and other government and public-interest organizations.”

Christie powers 8K visual experiences in Materia, the new Museum, at Sinaloa Science Centre

News Image

The Cube provides an interactive experience within an immersive space. In addition, it also serves as a forum for discussion on technological development, the use of the image and concepts affecting transmedia culture.

Eight Christie® Mirage 304K projectors have been installed in Materia, the new museum at Mexico’s Sinaloa Science Centre, to power Cubo Negro 8K. This immersive and interactive space is unique in Latin America and offers 8K visual experiences.

Cubo Negro 8K is a replica of Deep Space 8K, an installation at the Ars Electronica centre in Austria, where the project originated. Cubo Negro 8K is one of the icons of this new science museum, which defines itself as a “museological laboratory to build the future”.

Art, science and technology are combined in Cubo Negro 8K to screen never-before-seen images, including those of the earth, sun and cosmos. As Luis León, director general of the Sinaloa Science Centre, explained, “The Cube provides an interactive experience within an immersive space. In addition, it also serves as a forum for discussion on technological development, the use of the image and concepts affecting transmedia culture.”

Cubo Negro 8K is a collaboration between Ars Electronica, which is the license holder and creator of the concept of the space, Mexican technical integrator Planetarios Digitales, and the Sinaloa Science Centre and the government of the State of Sinaloa, northwest Mexico, with Christie assisting in the integration and installation of the projectors.

“It was a truly rewarding experience,” León claimed. “Given that this is the first replica of Deep Space 8K outside Austria, it involved an incredible amount of hard work and a lot of coordination, beginning with the different styles of work, the need for fluid communication between all the agents involved and then the implementation on site of an unprecedented project for America.”

Cubo Negro 8K is an interactive experiential space with 8K projection on floor and wall using eight Christie Mirage 304K 30,000 lumen projectors, which are 4K, 120Hz capable and can screen images in both 2D and 3D stereo with incredible quality. Four of the projectors are combined to screen a single image on a wall measuring 13 meters long by 7 meters high, while the other four project a single image of the same size on the floor.

Together, the eight projectors power 70,778,880 pixels with a resolution of over 8192 x 8620 pixels both on the floor and the wall. The Christie Mirage projectors, which receive video signals over fibre optic as well as HDBaseT, are fed by high performance servers designed especially for the purpose by Ars Electronica. The contents are shown in 2D, 3D, and gigapixel, with laser sensors providing interactivity. Guests can walk around and explore the projection on the floor and walls, providing a totally immersive experience.

“The quality is amazing,” León enthused. “Having this amount of pixels in the space with this level of brightness and being able to have them so close is really unique. Eight 4K projectors to achieve an 8K resolution with audiovisual content created specifically for this format takes you on a completely immersive experience. The brightness and performance of the projectors is incredible. The simple handling, the response, the software and the end result they offer make them the ideal tool for the space.”

Enrique Fonte, director of Planetarios Digitales, endorsed this opinion: “The hardware and software system of Ars Electronica, unique in its kind anywhere in the world, called for a really high quality projection system. The Christie Mirage projectors guarantee the required performance thanks to the quality of the image and their robust construction. Ready for 24/7 service to meet the high demand for use, they are incredibly reliable and guarantee unbeatable images. Once again, they have shown why they are the projector of choice in the world market for this kind of installation in museums, science centres, planetariums and entertainment centres.”

As well as supplying the eight Christie projectors, Planetarios Digitales also provided the 5.1 surround sound system which delivers audio from three different sources routed with a digital mixer, including microphones for presentations. It also supplied the acoustic treatment system, as well as four mirrors to project on the floor of Cubo Negro, plus almost two kilometres of cabling and a vast number of parts and accessories.

Luis León concluded: “The experience of the Cubo Negro 8K can only be found in Austria and now in our Materia museum in Culiacán, Sinaloa. There is no other place in the world like Cubo Negro 8K with this infrastructure, projecting 8K immersive contents in 2D, 3D, interactive and gigapixel.”

Radiant Webinar Presents Standard Measurement Method for Quantifying “Sparkle” in Anti-Glare Displays

Radiant Webinar Presents Standard Measurement Method for Quantifying “Sparkle” in Anti-Glare Displays

OEMs are concerned with quantifying sparkle … to apply the same tolerances for quality across all displays. Defining a standard display measurement system and approach provides objective and repeatable sparkle measurement values to enable these universal tolerances.

Radiant Vision Systems, a leading provider of display test and measurement solutions, announces that it will host a live webinar presenting a method for objectively and repeatably measuring the effect of sparkle on anti-glare (AG) display quality, according to human visual perception. The webinar, titled “Defining a Sparkle Measurement Standard for Quality Control of Anti-Glare Displays,” will be broadcast live on Thursday, October 8, at 9:00 AM PDT (12:00 PM EDT; 18:00 CEST). The 45-minute broadcast includes a technical presentation by Radiant Automotive Business Leader, Matt Scholz, followed by a live Q&A session.

“Anti-glare films and coatings ensure the visibility of displays viewed in variable lighting conditions; for example, in automotive cockpits and cabins,” says Scholz. “The microstructure of AG coatings diffuses bright light to reduce mirror-like reflections. However, this structure can also compete with the pixel geometry of the display as light from each pixel is emitted through the film. Interaction between the display’s AG and pixel structures results in a visual effect called sparkle, which appears grainy to the human eye and can impact the perceived quality of the display. OEMs are concerned with quantifying sparkle in accordance with the perception of their users to apply the same tolerances for quality across all displays. Defining a standard display measurement system and approach provides objective and repeatable sparkle measurement values to enable these universal tolerances. A method for measuring the effect of sparkle as it correlates to human perception ensures that the user experience drives integration of only the highest-quality AG displays.”

Applying CIE-matched scientific imaging systems to measure a sample of AG displays, the Radiant Solutions Team conducted extensive lab tests to define optimal system specifications and parameters for obtaining repeatable sparkle measurement values. This testing, combined with on-site studies at automotive OEM facilities, supports a standard measurement method defined by Radiant that produces sparkle values that consistently reflect human perception of display quality. Using Radiant’s high-resolution ProMetric® Imaging Colorimeters and Photometers and TrueTest™ Software, the Radiant Sparkle Measurement Method is the first to allow OEMs to set a universal numeric tolerance (for instance, a maximum sparkle percentage) for their displays, ensuring a consistent level of quality across all displays regardless of supplier, product, or time and location of testing.

The upcoming webinar will present the results of Radiant’s sparkle measurement study, defining systems and parameters for repeatable measurement with objective data to support a standard approach. Presenting these results on behalf of Radiant’s Solutions Team, Matt Scholz has over ten years of experience working on automotive metrology applications. Scholz has a fundamental understanding of the growing challenges in this industry, including increased performance and quality control for lighting, displays, and illuminated components. Scholz has led projects at all levels of the automotive supply chain, from Tier 1, 2, and 3 vendors to major OEMs worldwide, sharing his expertise on measurement equipment and providing a consultative approach to system integration for automotive applications.

Kiwip launches smartwatch to end helicopter parenting

News Image

KiwipWatch 5 – SmartWatch for Independent Kids

Our goal with KiwipWatch5 was to chip away at the tendency to over monitor children and, in doing so, reduce anxieties of both parents and kids.

Kiwip, a leading French family tech startup, is today releasing a new standalone smartwatch – KiwipWatch 5 – developed specifically to help kids build agency and independence. KiwipWatch 5 is now available on Kickstarter. Price starts at $189 USD.

Unlike existing solutions on the market, data protection is a central component of this new offering, as Kiwip uses its own servers to ensure privacy.

“Modern parenting resembles an Orwellian surveillance state. While plenty of tech has been designed to counter helicopter parenting, too often it has the opposite effect. Our goal with KiwipWatch 5 was to chip away at the tendency to over monitor children and, in doing so, reduce anxieties of both parents and kids,” said Kiwip Founder Matthieu Lim.

Kiwip goes beyond existing smartwatches for children in a few ways.

The watch includes a built in personal voice assistant for kids, called Kiwipi. It binds every other functionality in the watch together. It is multilingual and features content in 7 languages. This assistant plays a key role in dispensing with the need to always be hovering around one’s child by reminding them of appointments and activities, thus assisting kids and parents at the same time.

Kiwip Magic Control (KMC) allows the user to use the watch to control any device connected to the same Wi-Fi networks. For example, a kid could ask Kiwipi to launch Spotify on a smart TV and then, with a feature called SmartMooves (it registers hand gestures using an accelerometer) to change the song, pause music, etc. It fosters control and autonomy in a safe environment – all while the kid feels like a jedi.

The watch is linked to KiwipiWorld that, much like an app store, allows users to download apps from an approved selection; for example: AI translation, weather forecast with air quality monitor, etc.

“One looming parental nightmare is their children’s tech being hacked and data exposed. It’s a very real concern today with many kids’ products who house data on third party cloud servers. We’re very serious about data protection and we have put our money where our mouth is by housing data on our own secure servers, it’s a major differentiator and should ease parental concerns,” continued Lim.

KiwipWatch 5 is now available on Kickstarter starting at $189 USD. To set up an interview or online demo with the founders please contact Borjana Slipicevic at borjana@properpropaganda.net.

Utopus Insights and Vestas demonstrate cost-saving success of their open market five-minute self-forecasting pilot

Short-term power forecasting solution from Utopus Insights

Short-term power forecasting solution from Utopus Insights

The improved efficiency of our assets produces savings for consumers and positions Infigen to invest in additional low-cost renewable generation. – Matt Dickie, General Manager, Operations, Infigen Energy

Utopus Insights and its parent company, Vestas, have successfully used data from their five-minute self-forecasting pilot in Australia to produce customer cost-savings. Inaccurate supply forecasts, along with unreached output targets by renewable generators, can result in power system instability and higher operating costs, particularly in energy markets like that of Australia. As part of the Australian Renewable Energy Agency’s (ARENA) Advancing Renewables Program, this 12-month pilot provided a solution to this industry shortfall.

Such data can be especially useful for Australian wind and solar farms which are penalised for failing to meet required output levels in the National Electricity Market (NEM). The pilot was trialed at Infigen Energy’s Lake Bonney Wind Farm 2 and 3, a 198 MW project powered by Vestas in South Australia.

The data was used by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) for real-time dispatch decisions while also demonstrating increased accuracy when compared to the current Australian Wind Energy Forecasting System’s (AWEFS) five-minute forecast.

“Thanks to Vestas and Utopus Insights’ self-forecasting data, we expect we will achieve cost savings at Lake Bonney 2 and 3, assets with 198 MW of nameplate capacity,” said Matt Dickie, General Manager, Operations, Infigen Energy. “We will therefore continue to utilise this energy data solution at Lake Bonney Wind Farm 2 and 3.”

The solution applied advanced data science techniques to high-resolution wind turbine SCADA data, granular short-term hyperlocal weather forecasts, and meteorological data to deliver greater accuracy in energy forecasts.

Through the provision of such information, both AEMO and the market can expect a more accurate and transparent forecast of supply, system constraints and pricing. As a result, data like that of the trial can also provide increased grid stability.

“With a decrease in operating expenses coupled with a greater proportion of low-cost renewables in the energy mix, the wholesale cost of energy is expected to reduce, benefitting the Australian consumer,” said Peter Cowling, Head of Vestas Australia and New Zealand. “Furthermore, as a result of the introduction of the Five-Minute Settlement rule in Australia’s National Energy Market, the need for energy solutions like our accurate short-term forecasting will become more apparent.”

“The convergence of renewable energy and machine learning has the potential to positively impact the world and radically alter the way we look at the energy sector in the future – where “smart” renewable energy is the most sustainable way forward,” said Chandu Visweswariah, CEO, Utopus Insights.

“From an energy market standpoint, improved power output accuracies allow stakeholders to sharpen intra-day energy bid strategies, making renewable energy more reliable, and profitable,” said Shekhar Kamath, General Manager, Sales, Utopus Insights.

“Self-forecasting allows renewable generators to take advantage of the wealth of operational data produced by our assets. This results not only in financial savings but also in improved dispatch for the broader market. The improved efficiency of our assets produces savings for consumers and positions Infigen to invest in additional low-cost renewable generation,” Dickie of Infigen Energy added.

Tenvis & IoTeX Launch Ucam, a New Home Security Camera that Protects Your Privacy

Ucam by IoTeX

Ucam delivers impenetrable security and privacy that gives users the freedom to exclusively own and control all videos from their Ucam.

IoTeX, a Silicon Valley-based technology platform for privacy-protecting smart devices, and Tenvis Technology Ltd, a global security camera manufacturer founded in 2005, announced today the launch of Ucam, the world’s first blockchain-powered and privacy-protecting home security camera that is now for sale on Amazon.

With a vision for an Internet of Trusted Things, IoTeX has partnered with specialist camera manufacturer Tenvis to co-develop this first-of-its-kind security camera with absolute privacy. Ucam applies blockchain, end-to-end encryption, and edge computing technology to deliver impenetrable security and privacy that gives users the freedom to exclusively own, control, and share the videos captured by their Ucam.

“We are proud to bring the first 100% private consumer product to the mass market with Ucam,” IoTeX CEO Raullen Chai said. “Ucam allows parents, caretakers, pet owners, and more to protect their loved ones without ever worrying about being spied on. Only the Ucam owner and authorized users can access your Ucam and your videos — not even our engineers have access under any circumstance. With no strings attached, Ucam users will have peace of mind knowing there is no corporation manipulating or selling their data because all of it is owned by the user.”

Ucam, at a retail price of under $50 on Amazon, was awarded the CES Innovation Award 2020 for Cybersecurity & Personal Privacy. Ucam has all the features of leading home security cameras on the market today, such as 1080p HD video, 360-degree coverage, motion detection alerts, night vision, and two-way audio. But the true differentiating features are related to security and privacy. Ucam uses blockchain to remove the risk of brute-force password hacks and end-to-end-encryption to enable private live-stream video and recorded clips sharing. The camera debuted at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas and has been in beta testing with hundreds of users for most of the year ahead of today’s official launch.

“In our years of experience with security cameras, we have never seen such a complete offering in a camera that can keep our users’ private moments absolutely private,” Tenvis founder Felix Lee said. “Ucam users will enjoy all the features they want from a home camera, with the big feature they need: privacy.”

Ucam exemplifies IoTeX’s vision to empower user-centric smart devices that deliver all of the convenience and features that users expect but with full privacy. With Ucam, all computing is done locally on the Ucam device or the user’s mobile phone, removing the need for centralized servers entirely. The only place where users’ data is decrypted is on the devices that they own. When in transit, all data is immediately end-to-end encrypted using a one-of-one blockchain private key that is owned exclusively by the user and impossible to crack for maximum security.

IoTeX is empowering a borderless ecosystem for smart devices with privacy and data ownership as first principles. The IoTeX platform currently powers an array of private smart devices across a number of industries, such as Ucam and the Pebble Tracker asset tracking device. The IoTeX platform combines blockchain, secure hardware and confidential computing to ensure users are the only ones in control of their devices and data. The IoTeX vision includes healthcare wearables, asset trackers, and other devices that manage sensitive data.

“The creep of surveillance capitalism into our homes and neighborhoods is threatening our fundamental right to freedom and privacy for individuals. But data ownership provides people with the freedom to choose whether to keep their data fully private, share it with others or authorize its use by corporations. This is antithetical to today’s centralized models, which operate as data dictatorships, where citizens must ask corporations to delete, transfer, or do anything else with their data,” Chai said.

Raullen Chai is available for interviews.

Then, photos can be sent to the new frame in just two taps through the PhotoShare Frame app (iOS and Android), or they can also be sent directly to the frame by email, through the PhotoShare website or via a connected Facebook or Google Photos account. As a result, photos sent from anywhere in the world can be enjoyed on a PhotoShare digital frame just moments later.

“This holiday season, Brookstone PhotoShare digital photo frames are the ideal gift for anyone who wants to go beyond viewing photos on their phone and start enjoying them in their everyday life,” said Dean Finnegan, CEO, Simply Smart Home. “Treasured images can be shared with loved ones’ frames in their homes and offices without the recipient having to lift a finger or even get off the couch.”

Finnegan continued, “Gift givers can immediately start sharing photos with family and friends, knowing the frame will keep delivering smiles for years to come. Plus, Brookstone PhotoShare digital photo frames epitomize what the brand has always stood for – the utmost in style, quality and easy-to-use technology.”

PhotoShare Frames Make Sharing Memories Easy

PhotoShare technology makes photo sharing quick and easy. Up to 50 photos can be sent at once to multiple frames, making it a snap to share events as they happen. In addition to being a great gift for the holidays, they are a frequent choice on wedding and baby registries so consumers can share and enjoy photos of their expanding families. Brookstone frames are a thoughtful and easy-to-enjoy gift since the recipient doesn’t need to do anything to start receiving photos on the gorgeous high definition LED touchscreen display.

Users with the PhotoShare Frame app can send photos to any digital photo frame using PhotoShare technology, a growing network of more than 500,000 customers. And while some digital photo frames require a subscription, Brookstone and all other frames using PhotoShare technology allow photos to be sent for free. Photo senders can even add messages to accompany the photos.

Stylish Frames Hold up to 5,000 photos, Have Fun Extras

The new stylish frames are made of wood, come in espresso or black and include white and black mattes to match different home and office décor. The frames can be set to auto-dim, on a specific schedule, and support photos in both portrait and landscape modes. The frames’ 8GB of onboard memory will easily hold 5,000 or more photos.

The frames include additional features that make it fun and enjoyable to use. They can show a single photo or can be set to slideshow mode and include convenience features such as an on-screen clock and calendar and built-in music and video players. The USB port and SD card reader give customers another easy way to transfer digital photos.

Smart Vision Lights’ LM150 Offers More Than 100,000 Lux in a Small Package

Smart Vision Lights’ LM150

Smart Vision Lights (SVL), a global leader in the design and manufacture of innovative LED illumination solutions, introduces its new LM150 miniature linear light with an internal Multi-Drive™ LED light controller.

The built-in Multi-Drive™ controller allows the LM150 to work in either continuous or OverDrive™ mode, depending on the input signal to pin 5. The LM150 delivers more than 100,000 lux in OverDrive™ mode. The industry-standard 5-pin M12 quick disconnect makes for simple wiring. The LM150 also features overcurrent protection and can be enabled/strobed with either PNP or NPN inputs.

Measuring 141 mm, the LM150 offers a new and unique size option, joining the already popular LM45 and LM75 models in the bar light series. While the LM150 and other bar lights may be used for brightfield or darkfield illumination, depending on physical placement, the long and very narrow profile of the LM150 makes it ideal for darkfield applications. It is especially useful for surface inspection of cell phone, tablet, and other flat-panel displays. The compactness of the LM150 is particularly suited to electronic assembly and other highly automated tasks where space is limited and light placement is critical.

The LM150 is a versatile light with a wide range of working distances, from 50 to 2000 mm. The light pattern can be modified with five lens choices, ranging from a 16-degree narrow to an 80-degree wide or line lens. This further extends the versatility of the light by allowing the user to achieve optimum lighting for any field of view, regardless of working distance. Available standard wavelength choices are white 6200 K, 470 nm blue, 530 nm green, 625 nm red, and 850 nm NIR.

Smart Vision Lights’ products are EMI compliant to CE IEC and FCC standards and meet all RoHS, REACH, WEEE, and Conflict Minerals regulations.
