CoolIT Systems Launches New High-Density Server Solution with Gigabyte

CoolIT Systems Inc., a global leader in modular, scalable data center liquid cooling technology, has announced a joint product launch with GIGABYTE Technology, an industry leader in high-performance servers and workstations. Two high-density servers, H262-ZL0 and H262-ZL2, will be equipped with direct liquid cooling for CPUs and more from CoolIT Systems. These cooling solutions are a result of the increasing TDP of modern CPUs, including the 280W versions of AMD EPYC 7003 processors. These hyperconverged servers with four nodes will meet the needs of HPC, HCI, in-memory computing, and scientific research.

GIGABYTE Liquid Cooled Servers: H262-ZL0 & H262-ZL2

To support high end CPUs and plenty of flash storage, the H262 liquid cooled servers were conceived and designed to provide stable, high-performance computing via direct liquid cooling. Traditionally, servers like the H262 series had to reduce the number of front bays to provide ample air for 280W CPUs. With a fully populated, 24 drives, H262 server the CPUs are limited to 200W TDP. However, the liquid cooling solution by CoolIT allows for best of both worlds; plenty of fast flash storage and support for demanding workloads. The H262-ZL0 has cold plates for cooling AMD EPYC 7003 processors, whereas the H262-ZL2 cools the EPYC CPUs, memory, and NVIDIA ConnectX®-6.

Apcela Enables Enhanced Encryption for AWS GovCloud, Azure Government


Apcela originally developed the enhanced encryption service for a global defense and aerospace customer in 2020 to support high throughput transit of secure encrypted data to AWS GovCloud.

Apcela, the leader in software-defined, cloud-optimized enterprise network services, today announced that it has added enhanced cloud-based encryption to its Arcus Connect software-defined, multi-cloud interconnection portfolio of services. The enhanced encryption services are currently available for AWS Direct Connect (DX) connections to GovCloud and Azure Express Route connections to Microsoft’s Government cloud instances.

Apcela is providing encryption up to the full 10 Gigabits per second (Gbps) line rate of the direct connection link, an 8x improvement over the native capabilities of the cloud services providers encrypted transit, which is typically limited to 1.25 Gbps. Enhanced encryption is available from most cities in North America via Apcela’s Arcus Connect Platform. Customers can connect from any enterprise location via a private connection from Apcela, a Wide Area Network (WAN) extension or cross-connect into Apcela’s global network of AppHUBs, or consumed as a cloud service via a secure IPSEC tunnel over the internet.

The services support high throughput connections to all AWS GovCloud and Azure Government instances in North America. While encryption to the Government Cloud regions is the primary use case, the high-speed data encryption supports enterprise use cases as well, particularly for regulated industries such as banking, finance, and healthcare where there are stringent data privacy and regulatory compliance requirements.

According to a Gartner® research, “Compared with CSP public ports, private cloud port services (e.g., AWS Direct Connect, Microsoft Azure Express Route) can provide greater performance assurance, security, accountability and survivability.” Further “Gartner anticipates that demand for private cloud port services will continue growing steadily at a 20.3% CAGR through YE24.”1

“While demand for private cloud connections is growing rapidly, there are some significant limitations when encryption is required,” noted Kunal Thakkar, VP Product and Solutions Engineering for Apcela. “Limitations of software based IPSEC VPNs throttle your encrypted throughput to 1.25 Gbps, even though your direct connect link is capable of 10 Gbps. We unlock the encrypted throughput with acceleration at the cloud edge, enabling the full 10 Gbps, with the added benefit of being able to aggregate across multiple public and/or private enterprise network connections.”

Apcela originally developed the enhanced encryption service for a global defense and aerospace customer in 2020 to support high throughput transit of secure encrypted data to AWS GovCloud. With this general availability announcement for North America, Apcela is now fully supporting single and multi-cloud access across both AWS and Azure including all GovCloud and Azure Government regions for all data security classifications.

The multi-cloud encrypted access solution is offered via Apcela’s Arcus Platform and global network of AppHUBs. They are part of a suite of enterprise multi-cloud WAN solutions across connectivity, security, and intelligence layers, simplifying deployment of the networking and security services needed to move mission critical applications and data to the cloud.

Keypoint Intelligence Awards HP with the North American BLI PaceSetter Award for Sustainability in Wide Format

In today’s wide format market, customer demand for environmentally friendly products and operations continues to drive manufacturers to operate more sustainably.

Keypoint Intelligence, the world’s leading independent provider of testing services and analytical information to the document imaging industry, today announced that HP has claimed a Buyers Lab (BLI) 2021-2022 PaceSetter Award for Sustainability in Wide Format. Based on research conducted in the North American market, this accolade recognizes the OEM that is the best at supporting and advancing environmental improvements and initiatives in the wide format arena.

For this study, Keypoint Intelligence invited all leading document imaging OEMs to complete an exhaustive questionnaire detailing their environmental efforts and programs in a range of sustainability areas, including business operations, wide format print products, wide format device and supplies recycling, and goal tracking. Participating OEMs were also asked to make key personnel available for in-depth interviews with Keypoint Intelligence analysts to give a more complete picture of their wide format sustainability strategies. After gathering this data, analysts used a proprietary rating scale to determine the BLI PaceSetter Award winner.

“HP achieved very strong results across the different categories evaluated in this study,” Zimmerman said. “From the company’s comprehensive sustainability vision to its goals and accomplishments—including 75% circularity for products and packages by 2030—to innovations in product and ink cartridge design, HP is a clear leader in sustainability within the wide format print market. And throughout its wide format portfolio, HP uses water-based inks with a latex (resin) carrier that are designed to avoid the hazards typically associated with eco-solvent and UV inks. Another strength is its free HP Planet Partners recycling program, which recovers latex ink cartridges as well as 12 HP-branded substrates that are not paper based.”

Siemon First To Demonstrate Single-Pair Ethernet Over 400 Meters of Balanced Twisted Pair Copper Cabling


In another industry first, Siemon, a leading global network infrastructure specialist, demonstrated operation of 10BASE-T1L Single-Pair Ethernet (SPE) over 400 meters of TERA® balanced twisted pair copper cabling at the BICSI® Fall Conference in Las Vegas, NV. Siemon’s fully shielded TERA SPE solution is the first 23 AWG balanced twisted-pair copper cabling system proven to support 10BASE-T1L over distances of up to 400 m (1,300 ft) for Operational Technology (OT) and 10 Mb/s enterprise IT applications. This is a milestone step in confirming SPE’s ability to bring Ethernet network compatibility, including operation over a standardized, non-proprietary cabling infrastructure, to a wide range of OT devices operating at 10Mb/s or less such as sensors, actuators, and relays commonly used in building automation and industrial applications.

In Siemon’s demonstration, SPE was deployed to administer a basic access control system consisting of magnetic door locks responding to inputs from localized inputs like card readers and remotely managed control functions. Since SPE-enabled end-device and system development is in the pre-market stage, media conversion boards supplied by Analog Devices, Inc. were used in the evaluation to convert controller and end device 10BASE T TCP/IP output signals to 10BASE T1L. SPE system operation was successfully demonstrated over 400 meters of a one-pair channel constructed from Siemon category 7A cable and four Siemon TERA connectors. All Siemon connectors, cords, and cables in the SPE channel are commercially available with an installed base of millions of connections.

“It’s easy to specify new TERA permanent links that are capable of supporting both future IT and OT device connections over 400-meter distances,” says John Siemon, CTO and Vice President of Operations. “Because the Siemon TERA SPE cabling system is fully-shielded, it has the advantage of supporting up to four unique SPE applications and controllers over a single 4-pair standards compliant structured cabling channel – an ability that’s referred to as ‘cable sharing.’ Cable sharing saves material cost and more efficiently utilizes pathway space compared to deploying four SPE applications over four individual one-pair cables.”

Old Dominion University Announces Partnership with Maricopa County Community College District

Old Dominion University (ODU) is proud to announce they have partnered with Arizona’s Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) to help students seamlessly transfer and earn their bachelor’s degrees online through ODUOnline.

MCCCD is the largest community college district in the United States in terms of enrollment and is the latest of many ODU community college and higher education partnerships. These partnerships focus on transfer and new student success, resources, and helping community college students save time and money by earning their associate degree through Maricopa and transferring to ODU to complete their bachelor’s degree.

The Maricopa and ODU teams worked collaboratively to establish the partnership’s first seamless pathway, which focuses on Maricopa’s associate level Dental Hygiene program and ODU’s Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene. Maricopa Dental Hygiene students attending the Phoenix, Rio Salado or Mesa community college locations can now transfer seamlessly while maximizing their transfer credits. ODU’s 40+ online bachelor’s programs in other fields are also available to transfer students through this partnership. Interested students are encouraged to work with a dedicated ODUOnline coach to review their transcripts and build a plan for successful admission.
