Belatrix hosts Tech Day to encourage students discover the world of coding

https://www.prweb.com/

Tech day at Champagnat university

Belatrix Software, a leading software development company, held its annual Tech-Day program in Mendoza, Argentina. The initiative comprehends two separate events, one held at the National Technological University that gathered around 30 scholarship students, and a second one at the Champagnat University held for 90 high-schoolers.

Every year, Belatrix organizes this program to promote IT careers among youngsters. The initiative is part of the organization’s efforts to help local communities and offer high-quality education to unprivileged children. In 2016, Belatrix joined FONBEC, a local non-profit organization, with the objective to offer scholarships to outstanding students who don’t have the economic resources to complete their education programs. In order to continue helping them develop their professional path, Belatrix invites them to participate in the Tech Day, where they get a closer look at the programming language.

During the events, students used Scratch and App Inventor, both programs of the MIT Media Lab which aim to introduce people to the world of coding. These programs enable young students to create animation, games, and applications for smartphones in a simple and fun way while developing skills in systematic reasoning and creative thinking.

In addition, the Tech Day events are part of Belatrix’s commitment to demystify STEM-related careers. As software engineering is part of the so-called “hard-sciences” it tends to be misinterpreted, meaning it is boring or extremely hard. However, it offers countless possibilities, helping people develop creative thinking and problem-solving skills.

Besides hosting the Tech Day, Belatrix carries out other activities to encourage youngsters to pursue a technology-focused career and be part of the field that is shaping many industries. The organization regularly invites students to visit its offices and supports initiatives such as the Girls Programming Club. Contributing to bringing down gender barriers in technology plays a role not only in increasing the number of women in STEM careers but also in addressing the shortage of technical talent.

McAlester Regional Health Center Improves Security with Accutech’s Cuddles Infant Protection System

Newborn infant and mother

Providing high quality infant protection in a hospital environment is easier and more affordable than ever with Cuddles Infant Protection system from Accutech.

The system offers a deterrent and helps security officers quickly respond to an abduction attempt and identify any potential threats. If someone sets a door off, the alarm will light up and tell you where an attempt is happening.

McAlester Regional Health Center (MRHC) has installed Accutech Security Solutions’ Cuddles Infant Protection System. The hospital chose Cuddles because of its extensive, integrated security, efficiency in admitting and discharging babies, improved reporting, and ability to obstruct infant abduction attempts.

“We now have a great system in place,” said Megan Monks, Obstetrics Nurse Manager at MRHC. “We have no issues, no concerns about it not working correctly. We’ve already had very positive feedback from parents.”

MRHC also selected Cuddles because of its ease of use, the soft and lightweight, self-adjusting band, and top-notch security features. The system installed at MRHC has several alarms in place that are activated in various ways, including if a Cuddles’ band loses contact with the child’s skin, if an infant tag gets close to any of the department’s exit, if someone loiters too long at a door, or if a door is slightly open.

“The system offers a deterrent and helps security officers quickly respond to an abduction attempt and identify any potential threats,” said Bryce Segotta, MRHC security officer. “If someone sets a door off, the alarm will light up and tell you where an attempt is happening.”

Installation also included integrating the technology to shut down the entire wing in the case of an abduction attempt.

“When an alarm is activated, the entire floor of the hospital is shut down,” Monks said. “Until we see what the problem is, and we actually shut the alarm off, you still can’t get out.”

Accutech Security has been manufacturing infant security solutions for almost 35 years. Cuddles Infant Protection systems can be seamlessly integrated with wired and wireless nurse call systems, ensuring notifications are at hospital staff’s fingertips. Cuddles is in more than 500 hospitals worldwide and offers free 24/7/365 support.

Ashley County Medical Center Announces Implementation of Accutech Security Solutions’ Cuddles Infant Protection System to Protect Infants

We were looking for a more robust infant protection system that was safe and comfortable to the newborn. Accutech’s Cuddles system met all those criteria as well as being easy for our staff to use.

Ashley County Medical Center (ACMC) has contracted with Accutech Security Solutions to install the Cuddles Infant Protection System. Cuddles will allow ACMC to enhance security and minimize the risk for newborn abductions. This extra layer of security provides peace of mind to ACMC’s staff.

ACMC has approximately 180 deliveries a year. While they had a locked unit to control multiple exits and have been using cameras to track and record activity, keeping the most vulnerable patients safer was a top priority. The hospital wanted additional visibility to the nursery than staff alone could provide. ACMC researched 5 different infant protection systems before determining that Accutech Security’s Cuddles Infant Protection System was the perfect fit.

“We were looking for a more robust infant protection system that was safe and comfortable to the newborn,” said Amanda Autenreath, RN and Nursery Manager at ACMC. “Accutech’s Cuddles system met all those criteria as well as being easy for our staff to use.”

Cuddles works by placing a lightweight, self-adjusting band around the wrist or leg of a newborn. The bands are snug but comfortable and stretchable, ensuring they won’t fall off or hurt the skin. Nurses can monitor the location and movement of each baby and if there is an attempt to remove the band, an alarm immediately sounds.

“Accutech’s Cuddles system will allow our facility to continue to put our focus on mom and baby while providing a higher quality of infant protection,” added Autenreath.

Old Dominion University Celebrates 25 Years of Partnership with the Virginia Community College System

https://www.prweb.com/

Dr. Casiello speaks at the VCCS conference

Although so much has changed since we first began in 1994, the goal has always been, and will continue to be, the delivery of high quality, rigorous programs that prepare our students for the future.

In 1994, Old Dominion University and the Virginia Community College System teamed up to make higher education accessible to more Virginians through a remote learning system that was ground-breaking at the time. Through this partnership, students could earn their associate degrees from a community college in their home communities and continue their bachelor’s degree studies with ODU without having to move or commute to ODU’s campus in Norfolk, Virginia. Classes were relayed from ODU’s main campus to the community colleges or other local learning centers via satellite, and students had access to ODU faculty at their learning site.

Twenty-five years later, the satellites are no longer in use, but the distance learning partnership is still thriving. ODUOnline has grown from just a few bachelor’s degree programs to over 100 programs, and the benefits for Virginia college students keep getting better.

“Twenty-five years of partnership with VCCS means two and a half decades of joint creation of pathways for student success along with technological and accessibility improvements and money saved for students all across Virginia,” said Andy Casiello, associate vice president for distance learning. “Although so much has changed since we first began in 1994, the goal has always been, and will continue to be, the delivery of high quality, rigorous programs that prepare our students for the future.” Casiello recently spoke at the Virginia Community College Association conference in Norfolk, Virginia.

Students find they can save money by living at home and studying at a community college for the first two years. Others work full time and attend online classes as they fit education into their busy lives. More and more Virginians, especially those who aren’t within commuting distance of a university, are taking advantage. ODU’s contribution to preparing the Virginia workforce for the flood of new jobs coming to the Commonwealth has been significant.

“Our growth has been outstanding. Both ODU and VCCS are making amazing strides to meet the needs of our changing Commonwealth,” said Casiello. “Virginia is making waves, moving up, and leading the country in so many ways. Both Old Dominion University and the Virginia Community College System are prepared to continue growing our offerings to stay on the cutting edge.”

Old Dominion University, located in the coastal city of Norfolk, is Virginia’s entrepreneurial-minded doctoral research university and has been delivering distance-learning programs for 30 years. It offers more than 100 programs through ODUOnline in a variety of formats, allowing students to complete degree programs across the world. ODU serves more than 24,000 students annually by providing the same rigorous academics online and on-campus. Learn more about ODUOnline’s programs by visiting online.odu.edu.
