WiCyS Receives $150k in Support from Craig Newmark Philanthropies

WiCyS is helping veterans and other women answer that call by connecting them with opportunities and resources to succeed, ultimately beginning to remove the many roadblocks that continue to prevent women from advancing in the field.

National nonprofit Women in CyberSecurity (WiCyS) has received a $150,000 gift from Craig Newmark Philanthropies to expand its work to recruit, retain and advance women in the cybersecurity field.

It is predicted that, by 2021, there will be 3.5 million unfilled cybersecurity jobs around the world. Simultaneously, women currently make up 20 percent of the global industry, according to a March 2019 study. WiCyS works to help fill this industry gap with much-needed talent by training women in cybersecurity and connecting them with meaningful career opportunities. Since its inception in 2013, over 4,900 women in cybersecurity have participated in the organization’s annual conference.

“WiCyS is a tribe of like-minded peers and mentors,” said Ambareen Siraj, founder of Women in CyberSecurity. “We are a community that shares, supports, and, most importantly, works together to end under-representation of women in cyber.”

With this philanthropic funding from the organization of craigslist founder Craig Newmark, WiCyS builds on its track record by launching the Veterans Assistance Program. This new effort offers exclusive opportunities to women veterans who are either currently in cyber or aspiring to transition into the field. The program helps veterans connect with WiCyS sponsors and partners, earn a discounted WiCyS membership, apply for the Veteran Fellowship Award, belong to an effective community forum, and more.

“There is a serious need in the US for talented people to help protect our democracy and defend the country from cyber threats,” said Newmark. “WiCyS is helping veterans and other women answer that call by connecting them with opportunities and resources to succeed, ultimately beginning to remove the many roadblocks that continue to prevent women from advancing in the field.”

The gift will also allow WiCyS student chapter members to compete for free in the National Cyber League (NCL) virtual cybersecurity competition, powered by Cyber Skyline. This competition experience helps to provide another layer of skills that are needed to advance in the cybersecurity workforce.

iPi Soft, LLC, developers of the marker-less motion capture technology iPi Motion Capture, announced enhancements to its iPi Recorder 4.4.4 and iPi Mocap Studio 4.3.0 software.

“Tighter integration with the Unity real-time game engine is a huge benefit that will provide content creators increased flexibility to create more quickly and accurately” Michael Nikonov, Founder and Chief Technology Architect of iPi Soft, says.

iPi Soft, LLC, developers of the marker-less motion capture technology iPi Motion Capture, announced enhancements to its iPi Recorder 4.4.4 and iPi Mocap Studio 4.3.0 software. New features include improved live feedback and foot tracking for depth sensors, further integration with the Unity gaming engine, as well as support for Azure Kinect sensors. iPi Soft is also offering a 30 percent discount on iPi Motion Capture throughout the holidays.

“The live feedback improvements are key capabilities that will accelerate the motion capture workflow for game designers and visual effects artists,” Michael Nikonov, Founder and Chief Technology Architect of iPi Soft, says. “Tighter integration with the Unity real-time game engine is a huge benefit that will provide content creators increased flexibility to create projects quickly and with more accurate results.”

Improved Live Feedback:

The new version of iPi Mocap supports higher resolution in tracking mode providing more motion capture accuracy with lower jitter, while the smoothing filter can now remove visual jitter during live feedback tracking. Users can also change target 3D characters for motion transfer without the need to stop and restart live feedback. Recent live tracking settings are now stored thus eliminating the need to reset every time live tracking feature is used.

Integration with Unity:

Closer integration with the Unity gaming engine gives users the ability to stream tracking results to Unity, in both live feedback and offline tracking mode, allowing them to see how the motion will look in a 3D setting. Animation can also be post processed in real-time via Unity.

Support For Azure Kinect Sensors:

Azure Kinect sensors recently released by Microsoft are a new generation of popular Kinect depth sensors that have better depth quality, wide field of view mode and other advantages over Xbox 360 and Xbox One Kinects. iPi Motion Capture now supports Azure Kinect giving customers improved tracking quality and the ability to use the system in spaces as small as 7-feet by 5-feet. (Depth sensors comparison is available here.)

Sunbird® dcTrack® DCIM Operations Dramatically Simplifies Power Capacity Planning

Sunbird Software, the global innovator in data center management software, today announced the general availability of its latest dcTrack® Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) Operations software. Release 7.0.1 further positions Sunbird as the industry standard in second-generation DCIM with a brand-new feature that brings automation to data center power capacity planning.

“The new Auto Power Budget feature enables a radical change in how data center managers plan power capacity,” said Herman Chan, President, Sunbird Software. “Traditional methods lack accuracy and present stranded power, as all instances of a server model are given the same budget value based on the nameplate data. With Release 7.0.1, Sunbird unlocks precious rack capacity as each individual server model instance has a unique budget value that’s automatically set from real-time outlet-measured power readings.”

New Auto Power Budget Feature Automates Data Center Power Capacity Planning

dcTrack Release 7.0.1 introduces the new Auto Power Budget feature. The feature enables data center managers to eliminate stranded power capacity so they can get the most out of their existing capacity. With seamless integration to a multitude of intelligent rack PDUs on the market, Sunbird now automatically updates IT device power budget values based upon customer created policies using live readings from outlet metered rack PDUs. By providing complete monitoring and balancing of critical power resources, Release 7.0.1 helps data center managers ensure that there is sufficient capacity to support the explosion of web service applications without overspending on unneeded capacity while maintaining redundancy to maximize uptime.

“Capacity planning and power monitoring are the top two benefits data center professionals want from DCIM, according to our research,” said Daniel Bizo, Principal Analyst, 451 Research. “Establishing actual power profiles is difficult without a toolset designed for this. Sunbird Software’s ‘Auto Power Budget’ feature, along with metered infrastructure, provides a toolset that automates the calculation of each compute device’s power profile, enabling professionals to more accurately forecast their power needs and save money by getting the most out of their existing power resources.”
